On the Maximum Number of Edges in a Hypergraph with a Unique Perfect Matching
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this note, we determine the maximum number of edges of a $k$-uniform hypergraph, $k\ge 3$, with a unique perfect matching. This settles a conjecture proposed by Snevily.

Tight Hamilton Cycles in Random Uniform Hypergraphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper we show that $e/n$ is the sharp threshold for the existence of tight Hamilton cycles in random $k$-uniform hypergraphs, for all $k\ge 4$. When $k=3$ we show that $1/n$ is an asymptotic threshold. We also determine thresholds for the existence of other types of Hamilton cycles.

Loose Hamilton Cycles in Random Uniform Hypergraphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
In the random hypergraph $H_{n,p;k}$ each possible $k$-tuple appears independently with probability $p$. A loose Hamilton cycle is a cycle in which every pair of adjacent edges intersects in a single vertex. We prove that if $p n^{k-1}/\log n$ tends to infinity with $n$ then $$\lim_{\substack{n\to \infty 2(k-1) |n}}\Pr(H_{n,p;k}\ contains\ a\ loose\ Hamilton\ cycle)=1.$$ This is asymptotically best possible.

On Minimum Saturated Matrices
Published • View PublicationBIB
Motivated by the work of Anstee, Griggs, and Sali on forbidden submatrices and the extremal sat-function for graphs, we introduce sat-type problems for matrices. Let F be a family of k-row matrices. A matrix M is called F-admissible if M contains no submatrix G\in F (as a row and column permutation of G). A matrix M without repeated columns is F-saturated if M is F-admissible but the addition of any column not present in M violates this property. In this paper we consider the function sat(n,F) which is the minimum number of columns of an F-saturated matrix with n rows. We establish the estimate sat(n,F)=O(n^{k-1}) for any family F of k-row matrices and also compute the sat-function for a few small forbidden matrices.
Flips in Graphs

We study a problem motivated by a question related to quantum-error-correcting codes. Combinatorially, it involves the following graph parameter: $$f(G)=\min\set{|A|+|\{x\in V\setminus A : d_A(x)\text{is odd}\}| : A\neq\emptyset},$$ where $V$ is the vertex set of $G$ and $d_A(x)$ is the number of neighbors of $x$ in $A$. We give asymptotically tight estimates of $f$ for the random graph $G_{n,p}$ when $p$ is constant. Also, if $$f(n)=\max\set{f(G): |V(G)|=n}$$ then we show that $f(n)\leq (0.382+o(1))n$.
