We establish the existence of optimal maximal entanglement entanglement-assisted quantum $[[n,k,d;n-k]]_2$ codes for $(n,k,d)=(14,6,7)$, $(15,7,7)$, $(17,6,9)$, $(17,7,8)$, $(19,7,9)$ and $(20,7,10)$. These codes are obtained from quaternary Hermitian linear complementary dual codes. We also give some observation on the largest minimum weights.

The largest minimum weights among quaternary Hermitian linear complementary dual codes are known for dimension $2$. In this paper, we give some conditions for the nonexistence of quaternary Hermitian linear complementary dual codes with large minimum weights. As an application, we completely determine the largest minimum weights for dimension $3$, by using a classification of some quaternary codes. In addition, for a positive integer $s$, a maximal entanglement entanglement-assisted quantum $[[21s+5,3,16s+3;21s+2]]$ codes is constructed for the first time from a quaternary Hermitian linear complementary dual $[26,3,19]$ code.

In this note, we construct new doubly even self-dual codes having minimum weight $20$ for lengths $112$, $120$ and $128$. This implies that there are at least three inequivalent extremal doubly even self-dual codes of length $112$.

Linear complementary dual codes (or codes with complementary duals) are codes whose intersections with their dual codes are trivial. We study the largest minimum weight $d(n,k)$ among all binary linear complementary dual $[n,k]$ codes. We determine $d(n,4)$ for $n \equiv 2,3,4,5,6,9,10,13 \pmod{15}$, and $d(n,5)$ for $n \equiv 3,4,5,7,11,19,20,22,26 \pmod{31}$. Combined with known results, the values $d(n,k)$ are also determined for $n \le 24$.

For $(n,d)= (66,17),(78,19)$ and $(94,21)$, we construct quantum $[[n,0,d]]$ codes which improve the previously known lower bounds on the largest minimum weights among quantum codes with these parameters. These codes are constructed from self-dual additive $\mathbb{F}_4$-codes based on pairs of circulant matrices.

Currently, the existence of an extremal singly even self-dual code of length $24k+10$ is unknown for all nonnegative integers $k$. In this note, we study singly even self-dual $[24k+10,12k+5,4k+2]$ codes. We give some restrictions on the possible weight enumerators of singly even self-dual $[24k+10,12k+5,4k+2]$ codes with shadows of minimum weight at least $5$ for $k=2,3,4,5$. We discuss a method for constructing singly even self-dual codes with minimal shadow. As an example, a singly even self-dual $[82,41,14]$ code with minimal shadow is constructed for the first time. In addition, as neighbors of the code, we construct singly even self-dual $[82,41,14]$ codes with weight enumerator for which no singly even self-dual code was previously known to exist.

Linear complementary dual codes (or codes with complementary duals) are codes whose intersections with their dual codes are trivial. We study binary linear complementary dual $[n,k]$ codes with the largest minimum weight among all binary linear complementary dual $[n,k]$ codes. We characterize binary linear complementary dual codes with the largest minimum weight for small dimensions. A complete classification of binary linear complementary dual $[n,k]$ codes with the largest minimum weight is also given for $1 \le k \le n \le 16$.

It is known that there is no extremal singly even self-dual $[n,n/2,d]$ code with minimal shadow for $(n,d)=(24m+2,4m+4)$, $(24m+4,4m+4)$, $(24m+6,4m+4)$, $(24m+10,4m+4)$ and $(24m+22,4m+6)$. In this paper, we study singly even self-dual codes with minimal shadow having minimum weight $d-2$ for these $(n,d)$. For $n=24m+2$, $24m+4$ and $24m+10$, we show that the weight enumerator of a singly even self-dual $[n,n/2,4m+2]$ code with minimal shadow is uniquely determined and we also show that there is no singly even self-dual $[n,n/2,4m+2]$ code with minimal shadow for $m \ge 155$, $m \ge 156$ and $m \ge 160$, respectively. We demonstrate that the weight enumerator of a singly even self-dual code with minimal shadow is not uniquely determined for parameters $[24m+6,12m+3,4m+2]$ and $[24m+22,12m+11,4m+4]$.

In this note, we study the classification of $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes. For some special cases $(k_1,k_2)$, by hand, we give a classification of $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes of length $n$ and type $4^{k_1}2^{k_2}$ satisfying a certain condition. Our exhaustive computer search completes the classification of $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes of lengths up to $7$.

In this note, we give some restrictions on the number of vectors of weight $d/2+1$ in the shadow of a singly even self-dual $[n,n/2,d]$ code. This eliminates some of the possible weight enumerators of singly even self-dual $[n,n/2,d]$ codes for $(n,d)=(62,12)$, $(72,14)$, $(82,16)$, $(90,16)$ and $(100,18)$.

In this note, we demonstrate that every binary doubly even self-dual code of length $40$ can be realized as the residue code of some extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-code. As a consequence, it is shown that there are at least $94356$ inequivalent extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes of length $40$.

We give a classification of four-circulant singly even self-dual $[60,30,d]$ codes for $d=10$ and $12$. These codes are used to construct extremal singly even self-dual $[60,30,12]$ codes with weight enumerator for which no extremal singly even self-dual code was previously known to exist. From extremal singly even self-dual $[60,30,12]$ codes, we also construct extremal singly even self-dual $[58,29,10]$ codes with weight enumerator for which no extremal singly even self-dual code was previously known to exist. Finally, we give some restriction on the possible weight enumerators of certain singly even self-dual codes with shadow of minimum weight $1$.

We study the performance of ternary isodual codes which are not self-dual and ternary self-dual codes, as measured by the decoding error probability in bounded distance decoding. We compare the performance of ternary double circulant and double twistulant codes which are not self-dual with ternary extremal self-dual codes. We also investigate the performance of ternary self-dual codes having large minimum weights.

We prove that a certain binary linear code associated with the incidence matrix of a quasi-symmetric 2-(37,9,8) design with intersection numbers 1 and 3 must be contained in an extremal doubly even self-dual code of length 40. Using the classification of extremal doubly even self-dual codes of length 40, we show that a quasi-symmetric 2-(37,9,8) design with intersection numbers 1 and 3 does not exist.

In this note, we investigate the performance of optimal double circulant even codes which are not self-dual, as measured by the decoding error probability in bounded distance decoding. To do this, we classify the optimal double circulant even codes that are not self-dual which have the smallest weight distribution for lengths up to $72$. We also give some restrictions on the weight enumerators of (extremal) self-dual $[54,27,10]$ codes with shadows of minimum weight $3$. Finally, we consider the performance of extremal self-dual codes of lengths $88$ and $112$.

It is shown also that $R(3,7)$ and $C^{*}$ have no self-dual $[128,64,d]$ neighbor with $d \in \{ 20, 24 \}$.

We also classify double circulant self-dual codes with parameters $[90,45,14]$ and $[96,48,16]$. In addition, we demonstrate that no double circulant self-dual $[90,45,14]$ code has an extremal self-dual neighbor, and no double circulant self-dual $[96,45,16]$ code has a self-dual neighbor with minimum weight at least $18$.
