Computing Tree-depth Faster Than $2^{n}$
Published • View Publication • BIB
A connected graph has tree-depth at most $k$ if it is a subgraph of the closure of a rooted tree whose height is at most $k$. We give an algorithm which for a given $n$-vertex graph $G$, in time $\mathcal{O}(1.9602^n)$ computes the tree-depth of $G$. Our algorithm is based on combinatorial results revealing the structure of minimal rooted trees whose closures contain $G$.
The planar directed k-Vertex-Disjoint Paths problem is fixed-parameter tractable

Given a graph G and k pairs of vertices (s_1,t_1), ..., (s_k,t_k), the k-Vertex-Disjoint Paths problem asks for pairwise vertex-disjoint paths P_1, ..., P_k such that P_i goes from s_i to t_i. Schrijver [SICOMP'94] proved that the k-Vertex-Disjoint Paths problem on planar directed graphs can be solved in time n^{O(k)}. We give an algorithm with running time 2^{2^{O(k^2)}} n^{O(1)} for the problem, that is, we show the fixed-parameter tractability of the problem.

Jungles, bundles, and fixed parameter tractability

We give a fixed-parameter tractable (FPT) approximation algorithm computing the path-width of a tournament, and more generally, of a semi-complete digraph. Based on this result, we prove that topological containment and rooted immersion problems are FPT on semi-complete digraphs.
