Supersaturation of induced even cycles in locally sparse graphs
A graph $Γ$ is $(c,t)$-sparse for $c > 0$ and $t \ge 1$ if for every pair of vertex subsets $A, B \subseteq V(Γ)$ with $|A|, |B| \ge t$, the number of edges $e(A,B)$ between them satisfies $ e(A,B) \le (1 - c)|A||B|$. In this paper, we prove that for every integer $\ell\ge2$, there are $\varepsilon > 0, C, C' > 0$ such that if an $n$-vertex graph $Γ$ is $(1-\varepsilon,t)$-sparse for some $t$, and has at least $Ct^{1-1/\ell}n^{1+1/\ell}$ edges, then $Γ$ contains at least $C'n^2t^{2\ell-2}$ induced copies of $C_{2\ell}$. This partially resolves a problem of Ding, Gao, Liu, Luan, and Sun.
Venn diagrams as forbidden hypergraph traces
We study the maximum size of a set system that contains no $k$-Venn diagram, denoted by $VD_k$, as a trace. For every fixed $k\ge 3$, we prove $\text{ex}_{tr}(n,VD_k)=O_k(n^{2^k-2k+1})$, improving the direct Sauer-Shelah bound $O_k(n^{2^k-1})$. In particular, for $k=4$ the exponent decreases from $15$ to $9$. The proof starts from the theorem of Keevash, Leader, Long and Wagner for $VD_3$ and uses induction on $k$ in which two new Venn regions are forced for free at each added edge. We also record lower-bound constructions for Venn diagrams in fixed uniformity, explicit bounds for the $4$-uniform $3$-Venn problem, and a fixed uniformity trace result for the loose triangle.
Many holes but no large one: maximizing $k$-holes while forbidding $(k+1)$-holes
We study the maximal number $m_{k,\ell,n}$ of empty convex $k$-gons ($k$-holes) determined by an $n$-point set in the plane in general position that contains no empty convex $\ell~$-gon, focusing on the first nontrivial case $\ell=k+1$. Our main result determines the exact value in the small-excess regime: for $n=k+a$ with $a\le k/2-1$, we prove $m_{k,k+1,k+a}=2^a.$ We also describe the extremal configurations attaining equality. Beyond this exact range, we provide upper and lower bounds in the proportional regime $n=αk$ and in the regime where $k$ is fixed and $n$ goes to infinity. In the last mentioned regime we prove that $m_{k,k+1,n}=Ω_k(n^{\lfloor\frac{k}{3}\rfloor})$ and $m_{k,k+1,n}=O_k(n^{\lceil\frac{k}{2}\rceil+1}).$
Monochromatic Paths and a Topological Approach to Norine's Conjecture
Motivated by Norine's conjecture, this paper investigates monochromatic antipodal paths in $2$-edge-coloured hypercubes. Our main method relies on a topological criterion applied to triangulated $2$-skeleta. We show that any antipodal colouring of a centrally symmetric, simply connected $2$-complex yields a monochromatic path linking an antipodal pair of vertices. By symmetrically triangulating opposite square faces in certain classes of colourings, we obtain a topological verification of Norine's conjecture for these classes. We also establish quantitative bounds for cases in which only a limited number of square faces present structural obstructions.
The Manickam-Miklós-Singhi Property in Graphs and Hypergraphs
This paper studies the Manickam-Miklós-Singhi (MMS) property for graphs and hypergraphs. Using the structural characterisation of the $2$-uniform case, we construct new families of regular graphs with the MMS property. We then analyse the Erdős--Rényi random graph model $\mathbf{G}(n,p)$ and identify regimes in which the MMS property holds with high probability. Finally, we extend the matching-based sufficient condition to higher uniformities via pseudo-matchings and introduce a blowout construction that produces higher-uniformity hypergraphs with the MMS property from lower-uniformity examples.
