There are siblings of $χ$ which are permutations for $n$ even
Let $1$ be the all-one vector and $\odot$ denote the component-wise multiplication of two vectors in $\mathbb F_2^n$. We study the vector space $Γ_n$ over $\mathbb F_2$ generated by the functions $γ_{2k}:\mathbb F_2^n \to \mathbb F_2^n, k\geq 0$, where $$ γ_{2k} = S^{2k}\odot(1+S^{2k-1})\odot(1+S^{2k-3})\odot\ldots\odot(1+S) $$ and $S:\mathbb F_2^n\to\mathbb F_2^n$ is the cyclic left shift function. The functions in $Γ_n$ are shift-invariant and the well known $χ$ function used in several cryptographic primitives is contained in $Γ_n$. For even $n$, we show that the permutations from $Γ_n$ with respect to composition form an Abelian group, which is isomorphic to the unit group of the residue ring $\mathbb F_2[X]/(X^n +X^{n/2})$. This isomorphism yields an efficient theoretic and algorithmic method for constructing and studying a rich family of shift-invariant permutations on $\mathbb F_2^n$ which are natural generalizations of $χ$. To demonstrate it, we apply the obtained results to investigate the function $γ_0 +γ_2+γ_4$ on $\mathbb F_2^n$.

On generic $Δ$-modular integer matrices with two rows
The column number question asks for the maximal number of columns of an integer matrix with the property that all its rank size minors are bounded by a fixed parameter $Δ$ in absolute value. Polynomial upper bounds have been proved in various settings in recent years, with consequences for algorithmic questions in integer linear programming and matroid theory. In this paper, we focus on the exact determination of the maximal column number of such matrices with two rows and no vanishing $2$-minors. We prove that for large enough $Δ$, this number is a quasi-linear function, non-decreasing and always even. Such basic structural properties of column number functions are barely known, but expected to hold in other settings as well. Moreover, our results identify the unique excluded (co)rank two minors for the class of matroids that are representable as a $Δ$-submodular matrix.
On the size of integer programs with bounded non-vanishing subdeterminants
Motivated by complexity questions in integer programming, this paper aims to contribute to the understanding of combinatorial properties of integer matrices of row rank $r$ and with bounded subdeterminants. In particular, we study the column number question for integer matrices whose every $r \times r$ minor is non-zero and bounded by a fixed constant $Δ$ in absolute value. Approaching the problem in two different ways, one that uses results from coding theory, and the other from the geometry of numbers, we obtain linear and asymptotically sublinear upper bounds on the maximal number of columns of such matrices, respectively. We complement these results by lower bound constructions, matching the linear upper bound for $r=2$, and a discussion of a computational approach to determine the maximal number of columns for small parameters $Δ$ and $r$.

Image sets of perfectly nonlinear maps
We consider image sets of differentially $d$-uniform maps of finite fields. We present a lower bound on the image size of such maps and study their preimage distribution, by extending methods used for planar maps. We apply the results to study $d$-uniform Dembowski-Ostrom polynomials. Further, we focus on a particularly interesting case of APN maps on binary fields. We show that APN maps with the minimal image size must have a very special preimage distribution. We prove that for an even $n$ the image sets of several well-studied families of APN maps are minimal. We present results connecting the image sets of special maps with their Walsh spectrum. Especially, we show that the fact that several large classes of APN maps have the classical Walsh spectrum is explained by the minimality of their image sets. Finally, we present upper bounds on the image size of APN maps.
