Multiplicity of Laplacian eigenvalue 1 of a graph
Let $G$ be a graph with $p(G)$ pendant vertices and $q(G)$ quasi-pendant vertices. Denote by $m_{L(G)}(λ)$ the multiplicity of $λ$ as a Laplacian eigenvalue of $G$. A graph $G$ is called reduced, if $p(G)=q(G)$. It is known that deleting a pendant path $P_3$ from a graph $G$ cannot change $m_{L(G)}(1)$. By the reduction operation for a graph (defined by Tian and Wong, 2026), we could turn to the reduced graphs with each quasi-pendant vertex of degree 2 to investigate $m_{L(G)}(1)$. Then let $T$ be a reduced tree on $n(\geq 7)$ vertices with each quasi-pendant vertex of degree 2 and without pendant path $P_3$. We first prove that \begin{equation*} m_{L(T)}(1)\leq \frac{n-5}{6} \end{equation*} and the extremal trees attaining the upper bound are determined completely. In addition, let $G$ be an arbitrary connected reduced graph with order $n\geq 6$ and size $m$. Denote by $c=m-n+1$ the first Betti number of $G$, then we obtain \begin{equation*} m_{L(G)}(1)\leq c+\frac{n-2}{4}, \end{equation*} and the extremal graphs attaining the upper bound are characterized completely.

On the multiplicity of 1 as a Laplacian eigenvalue of a graph
Let $G$ be a graph with $p(G)$ pendant vertices and $q(G)$ quasi-pendant vertices. Denote by $m_{L(G)}(λ)$ the multiplicity of $λ$ as a Laplacian eigenvalue of $G$. Let $\overline{G}$ be the reduced graph of $G$, which can be obtained from $G$ by deleting some pendant vertices such that $p(\overline{G})=q(\overline{G})$. We first prove that $m_{L(G)}(1)=p(G)-q(G)+m_{L(\overline{G})}(1)$. Since deleting pendant path $P_3$ does not change the multiplicity of Laplacian eigenvalue 1 of a graph, we further focus on reduced graphs without pendant path $P_3$. Let $T$ be a reduced tree on $n(\geq 6)$ vertices without pendant path $P_3$, then it is proved that $$m_{L(T)}(1)\leq \frac{n-6}{4},$$ and all the trees attaining the upper bound are characterized completely. As an application, for a reduced unicyclic graph $G$ of order $n\geq 10$ without pendant path $P_3$, we get $$m_{L(G)}(1)\leq \frac{n}{4},$$ and all the unicyclic graphs attaining the upper bound are determined completely.

Full characterization of graphs having certain normalized Laplacian eigenvalue of multiplicity $n-3$

Let $G$ be a connected simple graph of order $n$. Let $ρ_1(G)\geq ρ_2(G)\geq \cdots \geq ρ_{n-1}(G)> ρ_n(G)=0$ be the eigenvalues of the normalized Laplacian matrix $\mathcal{L}(G)$ of $G$. Denote by $m(ρ_i)$ the multiplicity of the normalized Laplacian eigenvalue $ρ_i$. Let $ν(G)$ be the independence number of $G$. In this paper, we give a full characterization of graphs with some normalized Laplacian eigenvalue of multiplicity $n-3$, which answers a remaining problem in [S. Sun, K.C. Das, On the multiplicities of normalized Laplacian eigenvalues of graphs, Linear Algebra Appl. 609 (2021) 365-385], $i.e.,$ there is no graph with $m(ρ_1)=n-3$ ($n\geq 6$) and $ν(G)=2$. Moreover, we confirm that all the graphs with $m(ρ_1)=n-3$ are determined by their normalized Laplacian spectra.
On graphs with some normalized Laplacian eigenvalue of extremal multiplicity
Let $G$ be a connected simple graph on $n$ vertices. Let $\mathcal{L}(G)$ be the normalized Laplacian matrix of $G$ and $ρ_{n-1}(G)$ be the second least eigenvalue of $\mathcal{L}(G)$. Denote by $ν(G)$ the independence number of $G$. Recently, the paper [Characterization of graphs with some normalized Laplacian eigenvalue of multiplicity $n-3$, arXiv:1912.13227] discussed the graphs with some normalized Laplacian eigenvalue of multiplicity $n-3$. However, there is one remaining case (graphs with $ρ_{n-1}(G)\neq 1$ and $ν(G)= 2$) not considered. In this paper, we focus on cographs and graphs with diameter 3 to investigate the graphs with some normalized Laplacian eigenvalue of multiplicity $n-3$.

Characterization of graphs with some normalized Laplacian eigenvalue of multiplicity n-3

Graphs with few distinct eigenvalues have been investigated extensively. In this paper, we focus on another relevant topic: characterizing graphs with some eigenvalue of large multiplicity. Specifically, the normalized Laplacian matrix of a graph is considered here. Let $ρ_{n-1}(G)$ and $ν(G)$ be the second least normalized Laplacian eigenvalue and the independence number of a graph $G$, respectively. As the main conclusions, two families of $n$-vertex connected graphs with some normalized Laplacian eigenvalue of multiplicity $n-3$ are determined: graphs with $ρ_{n-1}(G)=-1$ and graphs with $ρ_{n-1}(G)\neq -1$ and $ν(G)\neq 2$. Moreover, it is proved that these graphs are determined by their spectrum.

Automorphism group of the subspace inclusion graph of a vector space

In a recent paper [Comm. Algebra, 44(2016) 4724-4731], Das introduced the graph $\mathcal{I}n(\mathbb{V})$, called subspace inclusion graph on a finite dimensional vector space $\mathbb{V}$, where the vertex set is the collection of nontrivial proper subspaces of $\mathbb{V}$ and two vertices are adjacent if one is properly contained in another. Das studied the diameter, girth, clique number, and chromatic number of $\mathcal{I}n(\mathbb{V})$ when the base field is arbitrary, and he also studied some other properties of $\mathcal{I}n(\mathbb{V})$ when the base field is finite. In this paper, the automorphisms of $\mathcal{I}n(\mathbb{V})$ are determined when the base field is finite.

Automorphisms of the subspace sum graphs on a vector space
The subspace sum graph $\mathcal{G}(\mathbb{V})$ on a finite dimensional vector space $\mathbb{V}$ was introduced by Das [Subspace Sum Graph of a Vector Space, arXiv:1702.08245], recently. The vertex set of $\mathcal{G}(\mathbb{V})$ consists of all the nontrivial proper subspaces of $\mathbb{V}$ and two distinct vertices $W_1$ and $W_2$ are adjacent if and only if $W_1+W_2=\mathbb{V}$. In that paper, some structural indices (e.g., diameter, girth, connectivity, domination number, clique number and chromatic number) were studied, but the characterization of automorphisms of $\mathcal{G}(\mathbb{V})$ was left as one of further research topics. Motivated by this, we in this paper characterize the automorphisms of $\mathcal{G}(\mathbb{V})$ completely.
