A new approach to the genus spectra of abelian $p$-groups
Published in Boletín de la Sociedad Matemática Mexicana (2024) 30:15 • View PublicationBIB
Given a finite group $G$, the {\it genus spetrum} ${\rm sp}(G)$ of $G$ is the set of integers $g\geq 0$ such that $G$ can act faithfully on an orientable closed surface of genus $g$ by orientation-preserving homeomorphisms. The determination of ${\rm sp}(G)$ is a classical topic and has a long history, but progress is lacked. In this paper, when $G$ is an abelian $p$-group with $p>2$, we propose a new approach to ${\rm sp}(G)$, giving a structural description for ${\rm sp}(G)$ in terms of a function which can be computed in finitely many steps.

Regular $t$-balanced Cayley maps on split metacyclic $2$-groups
Published in Bulletin of the Korean Mathematical Society 61 (2024), no. 1, 13-27 • View PublicationBIB
A regular $t$-balanced Cayley map on a group $Γ$ is an embedding of a Cayley graph on $Γ$ into a surface with certain special symmetric properties. We completely classify regular $t$-balanced Cayley maps for a class of split metacyclic $2$-groups.

Regular balanced Cayley maps on ${\rm PSL}(2,p)$
Published in Discrete Mathematics 339 (2016), no. 12, 2933-2940 • View PublicationBIB
A {\it regular balanced Cayley map} (RBCM for short) on a finite group $Γ$ is an embedding of a Cayley graph on $Γ$ into a surface, with some special symmetric property. People have classified RBCM's for cyclic, dihedral, generalized quaternion, dicyclic, and semi-dihedral groups. In this paper we classify RBCM's on the group ${\rm PSL}(2,p)$ for each prime number $p>3$.

Quotients of polynomial rings and regular t-balanced Cayley maps on abelian groups
Published in European Journal of Combinatorics 65 (2017), 45-58 • View PublicationBIB
Given a finite group $Γ$, a regular $t$-balanced Cayley map (RBCM$_{t}$ for short) is a regular Cayley map $\mathcal{CM}(G,Ω,ρ)$ such that $ρ(ω)^{-1}=ρ^{t}(ω)$ for all $ω\inΩ$. In this paper, we clarify a connection between quotients of polynomial rings and RBCM$_{t}$'s on abelian groups, so as to propose a new approach for classifying RBCM$_{t}$'s. We obtain many new results, in particular, a complete classification for RBCM$_{t}$'s on abelian 2-groups.

How to find G-admissible abelian coverings of a graph?
Published in Linear Algebra and Its Applications 438 (2013), no.8, 3303-3320 • View PublicationBIB
Given a finite connected simple graph $Γ$, and a subgroup $G$ of its automorphism group, a general method for finding all finite abelian regular coverings of $Γ$ that admit a lift of each element of $G$ is developed. As an application, all connected arc-transitive abelian regular coverings of the Petersen graph are classified up to isomorphism.

Enumerating typical abelian coverings of Cayley graphs
Published in Discrete Mathematics 313 (2013), no. 14, 1503-1510 • View PublicationBIB
In this article we complete the work of enumerating typical abelian coverings of Cayley graphs, by reducing the problem to enumerating certain subgroups of finite abelian groups.

Lifting automorphisms along abelian regular coverings of graphs
Published in Discrete Mathematics 313 (2013), no. 14, 1535-1539 • View PublicationBIB
This article proposes an effective criterion for lifting automorphisms along regular coverings of graphs, with the covering transformation group being any finite abelian group.
