On the Turán number of $K_m \vee C_{2k-1}$
Published • View PublicationBIB
Given a graph $H$ and a positive integer $n$, the Turán number of $H$ for the order $n$, denoted $ex(n,H)$, is the maximum size of a simple graph of order $n$ not containing $H$ as a subgraph. Given graphs $G$ and $H$, the notation $G \vee H$ means the joint of $G$ and $H$. $χ(G)$ denotes the chromatic number of a graph $G$. Since $χ(K_m \vee C_{2k-1})=m+3$ and there is an edge $e\in E(K_m \vee C_{2k-1})$ such that $χ(K_m \vee C_{2k-1}-e)= m+2$, by the Simonovits theorem, $ex(n, K_m \vee C_{2k-1}) = \lfloor \frac{(m+1)n^2}{2(m+2)}\rfloor$ for sufficiently large $n$. In this paper, we prove that $2(m+2)k-3(m+2)-1$ is large enough for $n$.

Estimating the circumference of a graph in terms of its leaf number
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $\mathcal{T}$ be the set of spanning trees of $G$ and let $L(T)$ be the number of leaves in a tree $T$. The leaf number $L(G)$ of $G$ is defined as $L(G)=\max\{L(T)|T\in \mathcal{T}\}$. Let $G$ be a connected graph of order $n$ and minimum degree $δ$ such that $L(G)\leq 2δ-1$. We show that the circumference of $G$ is at least $n-1$, and that if $G$ is regular then $G$ is hamiltonian.

Isolation of the diamond graph
Published • View PublicationBIB
A graph is $H$-free if it does not contain $H$ as a subgraph. The diamond graph is the graph obtained from $K_4$ by deleting one edge. We prove that if $G$ is a connected graph with order $n\geq 10$, then there exists a subset $S\subseteq V(G)$ with $|S|\leq n/5$ such that the graph induced by $V(G)\setminus N[S]$ is diamond-free, where $N[S]$ is the closed neighborhood of $S$. Furthermore, the bound is sharp.

Saturation Numbers for Linear Forests $P_6$ + $tP_2$
Published • View PublicationBIB
A graph $G$ is $H$-saturated if it contains no $H$ as a subgraph, but does contain $H$ after the addition of any edge in the complement of $G$. The saturation number, $sat (n, H)$, is the minimum number of edges of a graph in the set of all $H$-saturated graphs with order $n$. In this paper, we determine the saturation number $sat (n, P_6 + tP_2)$ for $n \geq 10t/3 + 10$ and characterize the extremal graphs for $n >10t/3 + 20$.

The Turán number of book graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
Given a graph $H$ and a positive integer $n,$ the Turán number of $H$ for the order $n,$ denoted ${\rm ex}(n,H),$ is the maximum size of a simple graph of order $n$ not containing $H$ as a subgraph. The book with $p$ pages, denoted $B_p$, is the graph that consists of $p$ triangles sharing a common edge. Bollobás and Erdős initiated the research on the Turán number of book graphs in 1975. The two numbers ${\rm ex}(p+2,B_p)$ and ${\rm ex}(p+3,B_p)$ have been determined by Qiao and Zhan. In this paper we determine the numbers ${\rm ex}(p+4,B_p),$ ${\rm ex}(p+5,B_p)$ and ${\rm ex}(p+6,B_p),$ and characterize the corresponding extremal graphs for the numbers ${\rm ex}(n,B_p)$ with $n=p+2,\,p+3,\,p+4,\,p+5.$

The stable index of 0-1 matrices
We introduce the concept of stable index for 0-1 matrices. Let $A$ be a 0-1 square matrix. If $A^k$ is a 0-1 matrix for every positive integer $k$, then the stable index of $A$ is defined to be infinity; otherwise, the stable index of $A$ is defined to be the smallest positive integer $k$ such that $A^{k+1}$ is not a 0-1 matrix. We determine the maximum finite stable index of all 0-1 matrices of order $n$ as well as the matrices attaining the maximum finite stable index.
