We use methods from spectral graph theory to obtain bounds on the number of incidences between $k$-planes and $h$-planes in $\mathbb{F}_q^d$ which generalize a recent result given by Bennett, Iosevich, and Pakianathan (2014). More precisely, we prove that the number of incidences between a set $\mathcal{P}$ of $k$-planes and a set $\mathcal{H}$ of $h$-planes with $h\ge 2k+1$, which is denoted by $I(\mathcal{P},\mathcal{H})$, satisfies \[\left\vert I(\mathcal{P},\mathcal{H})-\frac{|\mathcal{P}||\mathcal{H}|}{q^{(d-h)(k+1)}}\right\vert \lesssim q^{\frac{(d-h)h+k(2h-d-k+1)}{2}}\sqrt{|\mathcal{P}||\mathcal{H}|}. \]

We prove a Szemerédi-Trotter type theorem and a sum-product estimate in the setting of finite quasifields. These estimates generalize results of the fourth author, of Garaev, and of Vu. We generalize results of Gyarmati and Sárközy on the solvability of the equations $a + b = cd$ and $ab + 1 = cd$ over a finite field. Other analogous results that are known to hold in finite fields are generalized to finite quasifields.

Let $\mathbb{F}_q$ be a finite field of $q$ elements where $q$ is a large odd prime power and $Q =a_1 x_1^{c_1}+...+a_dx_d^{c_d}\in \mathbb{F}_q[x_1,...,x_d]$, where $2\le c_i\le N$, $\gcd(c_i,q)=1$, and $a_i\in \mathbb{F}_q$ for all $1\le i\le d$. A $Q$-sphere is a set of the form $\lbrace x\in \mathbb{F}_q^d | Q(x-b)=r\rbrace$, where $b\in \mathbb{F}_q^d, r\in \mathbb{F}_q$. We prove bounds on the number of incidences between a point set $\mathcal{P}$ and a $Q$-sphere set $\mathcal{S}$, denoted by $I(\mathcal{P},\mathcal{S})$, as the following.
$$| I(\mathcal{P},\mathcal{S})-\frac{|\mathcal{P}||\mathcal{S}|}{q}|\le q^{d/2}\sqrt{|\mathcal{P}||\mathcal{S}|}.$$
We prove this estimate by studying the spectra of directed graphs. We also give a version of this estimate over finite rings $\mathbb{Z}_q$ where $q$ is an odd integer. As a consequence of the above bounds, we give an estimate for the pinned distance problem. In Sections $4$ and $5$, we prove a bound on the number of incidences between a random point set and a random $Q$-sphere set in $\mathbb{F}_q^d$. We also study the finite field analogues of some combinatorial geometry problems, namely, the number of generalized isosceles triangles, and the existence of a large subset without repeated generalized distances.

In this paper we will give a unified proof of several results on the sovability of systems of certain equations over finite fields, which were recently obtained by Fourier analytic methods.
Roughly speaking, we show that almost all systems of norm, bilinear or quadratic equations over finite fields are solvable in any large subset of vector spaces over finite fields.

We show that if the cardinality of a subset of the $(2k-1)$-dimensional vector space over a finite field with $q$ elements is $\gg q^{2k-1-\frac{1}{2k}}$, then it contains a positive proportional of all $k$-simplexes up to congruence.
Distribution of determinant of matrices with restricted entries over finite fields
For a prime power $q$, we study the distribution of determinent of matrices with restricted entries over a finite field $\mathbbm{F}_q$ of $q$ elements. More precisely, let $N_d (\mathcal{A}; t)$ be the number of $d \times d$ matrices with entries in $\mathcal{A}$ having determinant $t$. We show that \[ N_d (\mathcal{A}; t) = (1 + o (1)) \frac{|\mathcal{A}|^{d^2}}{q}, \] if $|\mathcal{A}| = ω(q^{\frac{d}{2d-1}})$, $d\geqslant 4$. When $q$ is a prime and $\mathcal{A}$ is a symmetric interval $[-H,H]$, we get the same result for $d\geqslant 3$. This improves a result of Ahmadi and Shparlinski (2007).
A construction of 3-e.c. graphs using quadrances
A graph is $n$-e.c. ($n$-existentially closed) if for every pair of subsets
$A, B$ of vertex set $V$ of the graph such that $A \cap B = \emptyset$ and
$|A| + |B| = n$, there is a vertex $z$ not in $A \cup B$ joined to each vertex of $A$ and no vertex of $B$. Few explicit families of $n$-e.c. are known for $n > 2$. In this short note, we give a new construction of 3-e.c. graphs using the notion of quadrance in the finite Euclidean space $\mathbbm{Z}_p^d$.

We show that if $\mathcal{E}$ is a subset of the $d$-dimensional vector space over a finite field $\mathbbm{F}_q$ ($d \geq 3$) of cardinality $|\mathcal{E}| \geq (d-1)q^{d - 1}$, then the set of volumes of $d$-dimensional parallelepipeds determined by $\mathcal{E}$ covers $\mathbbm{F}_q$. This bound is sharp up to a factor of $(d-1)$ as taking $\mathcal{E}$ to be a $(d - 1)$-hyperplane through the origin shows.

Given $k$ sets $\mathcal{A}_i \subseteq \mathbb{F}_q^d$ and a non-degenerate bilinear form $B$ in $\mathbb{F}_q^d$. We consider the system of $l \leq \binom{k}{2}$ bilinear equations \[ B (\tmmathbf{a}_i, \tmmathbf{a}_j) = λ_{i j}, \tmmathbf{a}_i \in \mathcal{A}_i, i = 1, ..., k. \] We show that the system is solvable for any $λ_{i j} \in \mathbb{F}_q^{*}$, $1 \leq i,j \leq k$, given that the restricted sets $\mathcal{A}_i$'s are sufficiently large.

We study a finite analog of a conjecture of Erdös on the sum of the squared multiplicities of the distances determined by an $n$-element point set. Our result is based on an estimate of the number of hinges in spectral graphs.

Explicit tough Ramsey graphs
A graph G is t-tough if any induced subgraph of it with x > 1 connected components is obtained from G by deleting at least tx vertices. Chvatal conjectured that there exists an absolute constant t_0 so that every t_0-tough graph is pancyclic. This conjecture was disproved by Bauer, van den Heuvel and Schmeichel by constructing a t_0-tough triangle-free graph for every real t_0. For each finite field F_q with q odd, we consider graphs associated to the finite Euclidean plane and the finite upper half plane over F_q. These graphs have received serious attention as they have been shown to be Ramanujan (or asymptotically Ramanujan) for large q. We will show that for infinitely many q, these graphs provide further counterexamples to Chvatal's conjecture. They also provide a good constructive lower bound for the Ramsey number R(3,k).

In this note, we give a graph theoretic proof of this result.

We study the Erdos distance problem over finite Euclidean and non-Euclidean spaces. Our main tools are graphs associated to finite Euclidean and non-Euclidean spaces that are considered in Bannai-Shimabukuro-Tanaka (2004, 2007). These graphs are shown to be asymptotically Ramanujan graphs. The advantage of using these graphs is twofold. First, we can derive new lower bounds on the Erdos distance problems with explicit constants. Second, we can construct many explicit tough Ramsey graphs R(3,k).
Some colouring problems for unit-quadrance graphs
The quadrance between two points $A_1 = (x_1, y_1)$ and $A_2 = (x_2, y_2)$ is the number $Q (A_1, A_2) = (x_1 - x_2)^2 + (y_1 - y_2)^2$. Let $q$ be an odd prime power and $F_q$ be the finite field with $q$ elements. The unit-quadrance graph $D_q$ has the vertex set $F_q^2$, and $X, Y \in F_q^2$ are adjacent if and only if $Q (A_1, A_2) = 1$. In this paper, we study some colouring problems for the unit-quadrance graph $D_q$ and discuss some open problems.
