Characterizing graphs with the second largest distance eigenvalue less than -1/2
Let $G$ be a connected graph with vertex set $V$. The distance, $d_G(u, v)$, between vertices $u$ and $v$ of $G$ is defined as the length of a shortest path between $u$ and $v$ in $G$. The distance matrix of $G$ is the matrix $\mathbf{D}(G) =[d_G(u, v)]_{u,v\in V}$. The second largest distance eigenvalue $λ_2(G)$ of $G$ is the second largest one in the spectrum of $\mathbf{D}(G)$. In this work, we completely characterize the connected graphs $G$ for which $λ_2(G)<-1/2$ through approaches both spectral and structural.

Structural and Spectral Properties of Strictly Interval Graphs
In this paper we deal with a subclass of chordal graphs, which are simultaneously strictly chordal and interval, the strictly interval graphs. We present a new characterization of the class that leads to a simple linear recognition algorithm. Next we introduce a new subclass of strictly interval graphs, the $SI$-core graphs, that are non-split and non-cograph graphs and show that several elements of the new class are Laplacian integral.
Exploring structural properties of $k$-trees and block graphs
We present a new characterization of $k$-trees based on their reduced clique graphs and $(k+1)$-line graphs, which are block graphs. We explore structural properties of these two classes, showing that the number of clique-trees of a $k$-tree $G$ equals the number of spanning trees of the $(k+1)$-line graph of $G$. This relationship allows to present a new approach for determining the number of spanning trees of any connected block graph. We show that these results can be accomplished in linear time complexity.

Linear time determination of the scattering number for strictly chordal graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
The scattering number of a graph $G$ was defined by Jung in 1978 as $sc(G) = max \{ω(G - S) - |S|, S \subseteq V, ω(G - S) \neq1\}$ where $ω(G - S) $ is the number of connected components of the graph $G-S$. It is a measure of vulnerability of a graph and it has a direct relationship with the toughness of a graph. Strictly chordal graphs, also known as block duplicate graphs, are a subclass of chordal graphs that includes block and 3-leaf power graphs. In this paper we present a linear time solution for the determination of the scattering number and scattering set of strictly chordal graphs. We show that, although the knowledge of the toughness of the class is helpful, it is not sufficient to provide an immediate result for determining the scattering number.
Integer Laplacian eigenvalues of strictly chordal graphs
In this paper, we establish the relation between classic invariants of graphs and their integer Laplacian eigenvalues, focusing on a subclass of chordal graphs, the strictly chordal graphs, and pointing out how their computation can be efficiently implemented. Firstly we review results concerning general graphs showing that the number of universal vertices and the degree of false and true twins provide integer Laplacian eigenvalues and their multiplicities. Afterwards, we prove that many integer Laplacian eigenvalues of a strictly chordal graph are directly related to particular simplicial vertex sets and to the minimal vertex separators of the graph.

Toughness and Hamiltonicity in Random Apollonian Networks
In this paper we study the toughness of Random Apollonian Networks (RANs), a random graph model which generates planar graphs with power-law properties. We consider their important characteristics: every RAN is a uniquely representable chordal graph and a planar $3$-tree and as so, known results about these classes can be particularized. We establish a partition of the class in eight nontrivial subclasses and for each one of these subclasses we provide bounds for the toughness of their elements. We also study the hamiltonicity of the elements of these subclasses.
Integer Laplacian Eigenvalues of Chordal Graphs

In this paper, structural properties of chordal graphs are analysed, in order to establish a relationship between these structures and integer Laplacian eigenvalues. We present the characterization of chordal graphs with equal vertex and algebraic connectivities, by means of the vertices that compose the minimal vertex separators of the graph; we stablish a sufficient condition for the cardinality of a maximal clique to appear as an integer Laplacian eigenvalue. Finally, we review two subclasses of chordal graphs, showing for them some new properties.
