Minimal H-factors and covers
Published in J. Appl. Probab. 62 (2025) 136-152 • View PublicationBIB
Given a fixed small graph H and a larger graph G, an H-factor is a collection of vertex-disjoint subgraphs $H'\subset G$, each isomorphic to H, that cover the vertices of G. If G is the complete graph $K_n$ equipped with independent U(0,1) edge weights, what is the lowest total weight of an H-factor? This problem has previously been considered for e.g.\ $H=K_2$. We show that if H contains a cycle, then the minimum weight is sharply concentrated around some $L_n = Θ(n^{1-1/d^*})$ (where $d^*$ is the maximum 1-density of any subgraph of H). Some of our results also hold for H-covers, where the copies of H are not required to be vertex-disjoint.

Almost-2-regular random graphs
We study a special case of the configuration model, in which almost all the vertices of the graph have degree $2$. We show that the graph has a very peculiar and interesting behaviour, in particular when the graph is made up by a vast majority of vertices of degree $2$ and a vanishing proportion of vertices of higher degree, the giant component contains $n(1-o(1))$ vertices, but the second component can still grow polynomially in $n$. On the other hand, when almost all the vertices have degree $2$ except for $o(n)$ which have degree $1$, there is no component of linear size.

Critical window for connectivity in the Configuration Model
Published • View PublicationBIB
We identify the asymptotic probability of a configuration model $\mathrm{CM}_n(\boldsymbol{d})$ to produce a connected graph within its critical window for connectivity that is identified by the number of vertices of degree 1 and 2, as well as the expected degree. In this window, the probability that the graph is connected converges to a non-trivial value, and the size of the complement of the giant component weakly converges to a finite random variable. Under a finite second moment condition we also derive the asymptotics of the connectivity probability conditioned on simplicity, from which the asymptotic number of simple connected graphs with a prescribed degree sequence follows.
