On the minimum number of eigenvalues of matrices associated with cographs
A symmetric matrix $M=(m_{ij}) \in \mathbb{R}^{n \times n}$ is said to be associated with an $n$-vertex graph $G=(V,E)$ with vertex set $\{v_1,\ldots,v_n\}$ if, for every $i \neq j$, we have $m_{ij} \neq 0$ if and only if $\{v_i,v_j\}\in E$. We prove that, for every cograph $G$, there is a matrix $M$ associated with $G$ for which the number of distinct eigenvalues is at most 4.
The minimum number of distinct eigenvalues of a threshold graph is at most $4$
In this note we show that the minimum number of distinct eigenvalues of a threshold graph is at most $4$. Moreover, given any threshold graph $G$ and any nonzero real number $λ$, we explicitly construct a matrix $M$ associated with $G$ such that DSpec$(M)\subseteq\{-λ,0,λ,2λ\}$.
On the minimum number of eigenvalues of trees of diameter seven
The underlying graph $G$ of a symmetric matrix $M=(m_{ij})\in \mathbb{R}^{n\times n}$ is the graph with vertex set $\{v_1,\ldots,v_n\}$ such that a pair $\{v_i,v_j\}$ with $i\neq j$ is an edge if and only if $m_{ij}\neq 0$. Given a graph $G$, let $q(G)$ be the minimum number of distinct eigenvalues in a symmetric matrix whose underlying graph is $G$. A symmetric matrix $M$ is said to be a realization of $q(G)$ if it has underlying graph $G$ and $q(G)$ distinct eigenvalues. In the case of trees, a paper by Johnson and Saiago [Johnson, C.R, and Saiago, C.M, Diameter Minimal Trees, Linear and Multilinear Algebra 64(3) (2015), 557--571.] proposed an approach by which realizations of large trees are constructed from realizations of smaller trees with the same diameter, known as seeds, which has proved to be very successful. In this paper, we discuss realizations of $q(T)$ for trees of diameter seven based on the seed that defines it, correcting a result in the aforementioned paper.
Diminimal families of arbitrary diameter
Given a tree $T$, let $q(T)$ be the minimum number of distinct eigenvalues in a symmetric matrix whose underlying graph is $T$. It is well known that $q(T)\geq d(T)+1$, where $d(T)$ is the diameter of $T$, and a tree $T$ is said to be diminimal if $q(T)=d(T)+1$. In this paper, we present families of diminimal trees of any fixed diameter. Our proof is constructive, allowing us to compute, for any diminimal tree $T$ of diameter $d$ in these families, a symmetric matrix $M$ with underlying graph $T$ whose spectrum has exactly $d+1$ distinct eigenvalues.
On I-eigenvalue free threshold graphs
A graph is said to be I-eigenvalue free if it has no eigenvalues in the interval I with respect to the adjacency matrix A. In this paper we present two algorithms for generating I-eigenvalue free threshold graphs.
Null Decomposition of Unicyclic Graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this work we obtain basis for the null space of unicyclic graphs. We extend the null decomposition of trees from [11] for unicyclic graphs. As an application, we obtain closed formulas for the independence and matching numbers of unicyclic graphs just using the support of the graph.
Independence and Matching Numbers of Unicyclic Graphs From Null Space
Published • View PublicationBIB
We characterize unicyclic graphs that are singular using the support of the null space of their pendant trees. From this, we obtain closed formulas for the independence and matching numbers of a unicyclic graph, based on the support of its subtrees. These formulas allows one to compute independence and matching numbers of unicyclic graphs using linear algebra methods.

Integral cographs and applications
A graph is called integral if all the eigenvalues of its adjacency matrix are integers. In this paper, we show a cograph that has a balanced cotree $T_{G}(a_{1},\ldots,a_{r-1},0|0,\ldots,0,a_{r})$ is integral computing its spectrum. As an application, these integral cographs can be used to estimate the eigenvalues of any cograph.
Short note on Randić energy
In this paper, we consider the Randić energy $RE$ of simple connected graphs. We provide upper bounds for $RE$ in terms of the number of vertices and the nullity of the graph. We present families of graphs that satisfy the Conjecture proposed by Gutman, Furtula and Bozkurt \cite{Gutman1} about the maximal RE. For example, we show that starlikes of odd order satisfy the conjecture.

Multiplicity of eigenvalues of cographs
Published • View PublicationBIB
Motivated by the linear time algorithm that locates the eigenvalues of a cograph G [10], we investigate the multiplicity of eigenvalue for λ\neq -1,0. For cographs with balanced cotrees we determine explicitly the highest value for the multiplicity. The energy of a graph is defined as the sum of absolute values of the eigenvalues. A graph G on n vertices is said to be borderenergetic if its energy equals the energy of the complete graph Kn. We present families of non-cospectral and borderenergetic cographs.
Resolvent Energy of Unicyclic, Bicyclic and Tricyclic Graphs
The resolvent energy of a graph $G$ of order $n$ is defined as $ER=\sum_{i=1}^n (n-λ_i)^{-1}$, where $λ_1,λ_2,\ldots,λ_n$ are the eigenvalues of $G$. In a recent work [Gutman et al., {\it MATCH Commun. Math. Comput. Chem.\/} {\bf 75} (2016) 279--290] the structure of the graphs extremal w.r.t. $ER$ were conjectured, based on an extensive computer--aided search. We now confirm the validity of some of these conjectures.
