We consider numeration systems based on a $d$-tuple $\mathbf{U}=(U_1,\ldots,U_d)$ of sequences of integers and we define $(\mathbf{U},\mathbb{K})$-regular sequences through $\mathbb{K}$-recognizable formal series, where $\mathbb{K}$ is any semiring. We show that, for any $d$-tuple $\mathbf{U}$ of Pisot numeration systems and any commutative semiring $\mathbb{K}$, this definition does not depend on the greediness of the $\mathbf{U}$-representations of integers. The proof is constructive and is based on the fact that the normalization is realizable by a $2d$-tape finite automaton. In particular, we use an ad hoc operation mixing a $2d$-tape automaton and a $\mathbb{K}$-automaton in order to obtain a new $\mathbb{K}$-automaton.

We identify the structure of the lexicographically least word avoiding 5/4-powers on the alphabet of nonnegative integers. Specifically, we show that this word has the form $p τ(\varphi(z) \varphi^2(z) \cdots)$ where $p, z$ are finite words, $\varphi$ is a 6-uniform morphism, and $τ$ is a coding. This description yields a recurrence for the $i$th letter, which we use to prove that the sequence of letters is 6-regular with rank 188. More generally, we prove $k$-regularity for a sequence satisfying a recurrence of the same type.
Palindromic Ziv-Lempel and Crochemore Factorizations of $m$-Bonacci Infinite Words
We introduce a variation of the Ziv-Lempel and Crochemore factorizations of words by requiring each factor to be a palindrome. We compute these factorizations for the Fibonacci word, and more generally, for all $m$-bonacci words.

We make certain bounds in Krebs' proof of Cobham's theorem explicit and obtain corresponding upper bounds on the length of a common prefix of an aperiodic $a$-automatic sequence and an aperiodic $b$-automatic sequence, where $a$ and $b$ are multiplicatively independent. We also show that an automatic sequence cannot have arbitrarily large factors in common with a Sturmian sequence.
The Formal Inverse of the Period-Doubling Sequence
If $p$ is a prime number, consider a $p$-automatic sequence $(u_n)_{n\ge 0}$, and let $U(X) = \sum_{n\ge 0} u_n X^n \in \mathbb{F}_p[[X]]$ be its generating function. Assume that there exists a formal power series $V(X) = \sum_{n\ge 0} v_n X^n \in \mathbb{F}_p[[X]]$ which is the compositional inverse of $U$, i.e., $U(V(X))=X=V(U(X))$. The problem investigated in this paper is to study the properties of the sequence $(v_n)_{n\ge 0}$. The work was first initiated for the Thue-Morse sequence, and more recently the case of two variations of the Baum-Sweet sequence has been treated. In this paper, we deal with the case of the period-doubling sequence. We first show that the sequence of indices at which the period-doubling sequence takes value $0$ (resp., $1$) is not $k$-regular for any $k\ge 2$. Secondly, we give recurrence relations for its formal inverse, then we easily show that it is $2$-automatic, and we also provide an automaton that generates it. Thirdly, we study the sequence of indices at which this formal inverse takes value $1$, and we show that it is not $k$-regular for any $k\ge 2$ by connecting it to the characteristic sequence of Fibonacci numbers. We leave as an open problem the case of the sequence of indices at which this formal inverse takes value $0$. We end the paper with a remark on the case of generalized Thue-Morse sequences.
Nyldon words

The Chen-Fox-Lyndon theorem states that every finite word over a fixed alphabet can be uniquely factorized as a lexicographically nonincreasing sequence of Lyndon words. This theorem can be used to define the family of Lyndon words in a recursive way. If the lexicographic order is reversed in this definition, we obtain a new family of words, which are called the Nyldon words. In this paper, we show that every finite word can be uniquely factorized into a lexicographically nondecreasing sequence of Nyldon words. Otherwise stated, Nyldon words form a complete factorization of the free monoid with respect to the decreasing lexicographic order. Then we investigate this new family of words. In particular, we show that Nyldon words form a right Lazard set.
Convergence of Pascal-Like Triangles in Parry-Bertrand Numeration Systems

We pursue the investigation of generalizations of the Pascal triangle based on binomial coefficients of finite words. These coefficients count the number of times a finite word appears as a subsequence of another finite word. The finite words occurring in this paper belong to the language of a Parry numeration system satisfying the Bertrand property, i.e., we can add or remove trailing zeroes to valid representations. It is a folklore fact that the Sierpiński gasket is the limit set, for the Hausdorff distance, of a convergent sequence of normalized compact blocks extracted from the classical Pascal triangle modulo $2$. In a similar way, we describe and study the subset of $[0, 1] \times [0, 1]$ associated with the latter generalization of the Pascal triangle modulo a prime number.

We count the number of distinct (scattered) subwords occurring in the base-b expansion of the non-negative integers. More precisely, we consider the sequence $(S_b(n))_{n\ge 0}$ counting the number of positive entries on each row of a generalization of the Pascal triangle to binomial coefficients of base-$b$ expansions. By using a convenient tree structure, we provide recurrence relations for $(S_b(n))_{n\ge 0}$ leading to the $b$-regularity of the latter sequence. Then we deduce the asymptotics of the summatory function of the sequence $(S_b(n))_{n\ge 0}$.

We introduce a generalization of Pascal triangle based on binomial coefficients of finite words. These coefficients count the number of times a word appears as a subsequence of another finite word. Similarly to the Sierpiński gasket that can be built as the limit set, for the Hausdorff distance, of a convergent sequence of normalized compact blocks extracted from Pascal triangle modulo $2$, we describe and study the first properties of the subset of $[0, 1] \times [0, 1]$ associated with this extended Pascal triangle modulo a prime $p$.

Many digital functions studied in the literature, e.g., the summatory function of the base-$k$ sum-of-digits function, have a behavior showing some periodic fluctuation. Such functions are usually studied using techniques from analytic number theory or linear algebra. In this paper we develop a method based on exotic numeration systems and we apply it on two examples motivated by the study of generalized Pascal triangles and binomial coefficients of words.

This paper is about counting the number of distinct (scattered) subwords occurring in a given word. More precisely, we consider the generalization of the Pascal triangle to binomial coefficients of words and the sequence $(S(n))_{n\ge 0}$ counting the number of positive entries on each row. By introducing a convenient tree structure, we provide a recurrence relation for $(S(n))_{n\ge 0}$. This leads to a connection with the $2$-regular Stern-Brocot sequence and the sequence of denominators occurring in the Farey tree. Then we extend our construction to the Zeckendorf numeration system based on the Fibonacci sequence. Again our tree structure permits us to obtain recurrence relations for and the F-regularity of the corresponding sequence.
