On the structure of the sandpile identity element on Sierpinski gasket graphs
We consider the identity of the abelian sandpile group of finite approximation graphs of the Sierpinski gasket, and we show that the second-order term in the scaling limit converges to the path distance to the nearest corner on the Sierpinski gasket. The proof relies on a decomposition of the identity of the sandpile group into the sum of a constant function and the Laplacian of the graph distance on the approximating graphs.
The Median of Sierpinski Triangle Graphs
The median $M$ of a graph $G$ is the set of vertices with a minimum total distance to all other vertices in the graph. In this paper, we determine the median of Sierpiński triangle graphs. Sierpiński triangle graphs, also known as Sierpiński gasket graphs of order $n$ are graphs formed by contracting all non-clique edges from the Sierpiński graphs of order ($n+1$).

We investigate the identity element of the sandpile group on finite approximations of the Sierpinski gasket with normal boundary conditions and show that the sequence of piecewise constant continuations of the identity elements on SG_n converges in the weak* sense to the constant function with value 4 on the Sierpinski gasket SG. We then generalize the proof to a wider range of functions and obtain the scaling limit for the identity elements with different choices of sink vertices.
Average height for Abelian sandpiles and the looping constant on Sierpinski graphs
For the Abelian sandpile model on Sierpinski graphs, we investigate several statistics such as average height, height probabilities and looping constant. In particular, we calculate the expected average height of a recurrent sandpile on the finite iterations of the Sierpinski gasket and we also give an algorithmic approach for calculating the height probabilities of recurrent sandpiles under stationarity by using the connection between recurrent configurations of the Abelian sandpile Markov chain and uniform spanning trees. We also calculate the expected fraction of vertices of height $i$ for $i\in\{0,1,2,3\}$ of sandpiles under stationarity and relate the bulk average height to the looping constant on the Sierpinski gasket.
On fractal patterns in Ulam words

Ulam words are binary words defined recursively as follows: the length-$1$ Ulam words are $0$ and $1$, and a binary word of length $n$ is Ulam if and only if it is expressible uniquely as a concatenation of two shorter, distinct Ulam words. We discover, fully describe, and prove a surprisingly rich structure already in the set of Ulam words containing exactly two $1$'s. In particular, this leads to a complete description of such words and a logarithmic-time algorithm to determine whether a binary word with two $1$'s is Ulam. Along the way, we uncover delicate parity and biperiodicity properties, as well as sharp bounds on the number of $0$'s outside the two $1$'s. We also show that sets of Ulam words indexed by the number $y$ of $0$'s between the two $1$'s have intricate tensor-based hierarchical structures determined by the arithmetic properties of $y$. This allows us to construct an infinite family of self-similar Ulam-word-based fractals indexed by the set of $2$-adic integers, containing the outward Sierpinski gasket as a special case.

We prove that, on the infinite Sierpinski gasket graph SG, rotor walk with random initial configuration of rotors is recurrent. We also give a necessary condition for an i.i.d. sandpile to stabilize. In particular, we prove that an i.i.d. sandpile with expected number of chips per site greater or equal to three does not stabilize almost surely. Furthermore, the proof also applies to divisible sandpiles and shows that divisible sandpile at critical density one does not stabilize almost surely on SG.

The aim of the current work is to investigate structural properties of the sandpile group of a special class of self-similar graphs. More precisely, we consider Abelian sandpiles on Sierpinski gasket graphs and for the choice of normal boundary conditions, we give a characterization of the identity element and a recursive description of the sandpile group. Finally, we consider Abelian sandpile Markov chains on the aforementioned graphs and we improve the existing bounds on the speed of convergence to stationarity.

As a fundamental research object, the minimum edge dominating set (MEDS) problem is of both theoretical and practical interest. However, determining the size of a MEDS and the number of all MEDSs in a general graph is NP-hard, and it thus makes sense to find special graphs for which the MEDS problem can be exactly solved. In this paper, we study analytically the MEDS problem in the pseudofractal scale-free web and the Sierpiński gasket with the same number of vertices and edges. For both graphs, we obtain exact expressions for the edge domination number, as well as recursive solutions to the number of distinct MEDSs. In the pseudofractal scale-free web, the edge domination number is one-ninth of the number of edges, which is three-fifths of the edge domination number of the Sierpiński gasket. Moreover, the number of all MEDSs in the pseudofractal scale-free web is also less than that corresponding to the Sierpiński gasket. We argue that the difference of the size and number of MEDSs between the two studied graphs lies in the scale-free topology.
The k-Power Domination Number in Some Self-Similar Graphs
The $k$-power domination problem is a problem in graph theory, which has applications in many areas. However, it is hard to calculate the exact $k$-power domination number since determining k-power domination number of a generic graph is a NP-complete problem. We determine the exact $k$-power domination number in two graphs which have the same number of vertices and edges: pseudofractal scale-free web and Sierpiński gasket. The $k$-power domination number becomes 1 for $k\ge2$ in the Sierpiński gasket, while the $k$-power domination number increases at an exponential rate with regard to the number of vertices in the pseudofractal scale-free web. The scale-free property may account for the difference in the behavior of two graphs.

The magnetic Laplacian (also called the line bundle Laplacian) on a connected weighted graph is a self-adjoint operator wherein the real-valued adjacency weights are replaced by unit complex-valued weights $\{ω_{xy}\}_{xy\in E}$, satisfying the condition that $ω_{xy}=\overline{ω_{yx}}$ for every directed edge $xy$. When properly interpreted, these complex weights give rise to magnetic fluxes through cycles in the graph.
In this paper we establish the spectrum of the magnetic Laplacian, as a set of real numbers with multiplicities, on the Sierpinski gasket graph ($SG$) where the magnetic fluxes equal $α$ through the upright triangles, and $β$ through the downright triangles. This is achieved upon showing the spectral self-similarity of the magnetic Laplacian via a 3-parameter map $\mathcal{U}$ involving non-rational functions, which takes into account $α$, $β$, and the spectral parameter $λ$. In doing so we provide a quantitative answer to a question of Bellissard [Renormalization Group Analysis and Quasicrystals (1992)] on the relationship between the dynamical spectrum and the actual magnetic spectrum.
Our main theorems lead to two applications. In the case $α=β$, we demonstrate the approximation of the magnetic spectrum by the filled Julia set of $\mathcal{U}$, the Sierpinski gasket counterpart to Hofstadter's butterfly. Meanwhile, in the case $α,β\in \{0,\frac{1}{2}\}$, we can compute the determinant of the magnetic Laplacian determinant and the corresponding asymptotic complexity.

Let $E$ be the Sierpinski gasket, i.e., the self-similar set generated by the IFS $\left \{f_a(x)=\frac{x+a}{q}: a\in \{(0,0), (0,1), (1,0)\}\right \}$. In paper, we provide a description of the following set for $2<q<3$ \begin{equation*} D_q=\{\dim _H(E\cap (E+t)):\;t\in T\}, \end{equation*} where $T$ is the set of $t=(t_1, t_2)$ with $t\in E-E$ and $t_1, t_2$ have unique $q$-expansions w.r.t $\{-1,0,1\}$.
Critical base for the unique codings of fat Sierpinski gasket
Given $β\in(1,2)$ the fat Sierpinski gasket $\mathcal S_β$ is the self-similar set in $\mathbb R^2$ generated by the iterated function system (IFS)
\[
f_{β,d}(x)=\frac{x+d}β,\quad d\in\mathcal A:=\{(0, 0), (1,0), (0,1)\}.
\] Then for each point $P\in\mathcal S_β$ there exists a sequence $(d_i)\in\mathcal A^\mathbb N$ such that $P=\sum_{i=1}^\infty d_i/β^i$, and the infinite sequence $(d_i)$ is called a \emph{coding} of $P$. In general, a point in $\mathcal S_β$ may have multiple codings since the overlap region $\mathcal O_β:=\bigcup_{c,d\in\mathcal A, c\ne d}f_{β,c}(Δ_β)\cap f_{β,d}(Δ_β)$ has non-empty interior, where $Δ_β$ is the convex hull of $\mathcal S_β$. In this paper we are interested in the invariant set
\[
\widetilde{\mathcal U}_β:=\left\{\sum_{i=1}^\infty \frac{d_i}{β^i}\in \mathcal S_β: \sum_{i=1}^\infty\frac{d_{n+i}}{β^i}\notin\mathcal O_β~\forall n\ge 0\right\}.
\]
Then each point in $ \widetilde{\mathcal U}_β$ has a unique coding. We show that there is a transcendental number $β_c\approx 1.55263$ related to the Thue-Morse sequence, such that $\widetilde{\mathcal U}_β$ has positive Hausdorff dimension if and only if $β>β_{c}$. Furthermore, for $β=β_c$ the set $\widetilde{\mathcal U}_β$ is uncountable but has zero Hausdorff dimension, and for $β<β_c$ the set $\widetilde{\mathcal U}_β$ is at most countable. Consequently, we also answer a conjecture of Sidorov (2007). Our strategy is using combinatorics on words based on the lexicographical characterization of $\widetilde{\mathcal U}_β$.

We establish quantitative spherical shape theorems for rotor-router aggregation and abelian sandpile growth on the graphical Sierpinski gasket ($SG$) when particles are launched from the corner vertex.
In particular, the abelian sandpile growth problem is exactly solved via a recursive construction of self-similar sandpile tiles. We show that sandpile growth and patterns exhibit a $(2\cdot 3^n)$-periodicity as a function of the initial mass. Moreover, the cluster explodes---increments by more than 1 in radius---at periodic intervals, a phenomenon not seen on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ or trees. We explicitly characterize all the radial jumps, and use the renewal theorem to prove the scaling limit of the cluster radius, which satisfies a power law modulated by log-periodic oscillations. In the course of our proofs we also establish structural identities of the sandpile groups of subgraphs of $SG$ with two different boundary conditions, notably the corresponding identity elements conjectured by Fairchild, Haim, Setra, Strichartz, and Westura.
Our main theorems, in conjunction with recent results of Chen, Huss, Sava-Huss, and Teplyaev, establish $SG$ as a positive example of a state space which exhibits "limit shape universality," in the sense of Levine and Peres, among the four Laplacian growth models: divisible sandpiles, abelian sandpiles, rotor-router aggregation, and internal diffusion-limited aggregation (IDLA). We conclude the paper with conjectures about radial fluctuations in IDLA on $SG$, possible extensions of limit shape universality to other state spaces, and related open problems.

Convergence of Pascal-Like Triangles in Parry-Bertrand Numeration Systems

We pursue the investigation of generalizations of the Pascal triangle based on binomial coefficients of finite words. These coefficients count the number of times a finite word appears as a subsequence of another finite word. The finite words occurring in this paper belong to the language of a Parry numeration system satisfying the Bertrand property, i.e., we can add or remove trailing zeroes to valid representations. It is a folklore fact that the Sierpiński gasket is the limit set, for the Hausdorff distance, of a convergent sequence of normalized compact blocks extracted from the classical Pascal triangle modulo $2$. In a similar way, we describe and study the subset of $[0, 1] \times [0, 1]$ associated with the latter generalization of the Pascal triangle modulo a prime number.
Triangular fractal approximating graphs and their covering paths and cycles
We observe two kinds of fractal approximating graphs, the background structures of the generalized Sierpinski Arrowhead Curve independently of the recursive curves. Both graphs related to the generalized Sierpinski Gasket and based on a checked triangular generator pattern. In the Overall Graph we connect the corners of the up facing neighbouring dark tiles. In the Inscribed Graph we connect their centroids. We describe their cardinalities in general case with recursive and explicit formulas, the numbers of their vertices and edges, their edge covering Hamiltonian-paths and -cycles, and their tiling-paths and -cycles which cover all of their dark tiles. Some of these formations are unambiguously transformable into each other and these bijective pairs keep their basic properties after the transformation. Some of their cardinalities form new integer sequences.
The generalized Sierpiński Arrowhead Curve
We define special Hamiltonian-paths and special permutations of the up-facing dark tiles on a checked triangular grid related to the generalized Sierpiński Gasket. Our definitions and observations make possible the generalization of the Sierpiński Arrowhead Curve for all orders. We produce these symmetric recursive curves in many ways by two kinds of asymmetric paths which are in a bijective relation and unambiguously transformable into each other in any order. These node-rewriting and edge-rewriting recursive curves keep their self-avoiding and simple properties after the transformation and their cardinality specifies a new integer sequence. We show a transformation table to change the curves into each other and we give another table to change them into Lindenmayer-system strings both by the absolute direction codes of their edges.
Horofunctions on Sierpiński type triangles
We study an infinite set of graphs which are recursively constructed from an infinite word in a finite alphabet. These graphs are inspired by the construction of the Sierpiński gasket. We show that there are infinitely many non-isomorphic such graphs and we describe the horofunctions on the standard case.

We introduce a generalization of Pascal triangle based on binomial coefficients of finite words. These coefficients count the number of times a word appears as a subsequence of another finite word. Similarly to the Sierpiński gasket that can be built as the limit set, for the Hausdorff distance, of a convergent sequence of normalized compact blocks extracted from Pascal triangle modulo $2$, we describe and study the first properties of the subset of $[0, 1] \times [0, 1]$ associated with this extended Pascal triangle modulo a prime $p$.
