On the expected value of energy in groups
We obtain explicit upper and lower bounds for the expected action energy associated with a pair $({\sf A},{\sf Δ})$ of subsets sampled uniformly at random from a permutation group and its domain, respectively. We then specialize these bounds to multiplicative energy in several settings. In particular, we derive sharp asymptotic formulae for the expected energy of pairs of the form $({\sf A},{\sf A})$ and $({\sf A},{\sf A}^{-1})$. Finally, we apply these estimates to derive probabilistic results on the existence of subsets with large growth and to compare the typical behaviour of the cardinalities of the sets $|{\sf A}^{\ast 2}|$ and $|{\sf A}{\sf A}^{-1}|$.
Separating subsets from their images
Let $G$ be a transitive permutation group acting on $Ω$. In this paper, we introduce and study the parameter ${\bf m}(G)$, which denotes the size of the smallest set of points $A$ such that, for every permutation $g\in G$, $A \cap A^g$ is nonempty. In particular, we focus on deriving general bounds for arbitrary transitive groups, and on the asymptotic behaviour of certain families of primitive groups. We also provide a classification of transitive groups with ${\bf m}(G)$ largest possible, namely with ${\bf m}(G)=\lceil (|Ω|+1) / 2 \rceil$.
Cubic vertex-transitive graphs of girth seven
In this paper we classify cubic vertex-transitive graphs of girth $7$, based on their signature. Such a graph is either a truncation of an arc-transitive dihedral scheme on a $7$-regular graph, the skeleton of a rotary map of type $\{7,3\}$, a member of an infinite family of Cayley graphs, or is one of the of the generalised Petersen graphs $\text{Pet}(13,5)$, $\text{Pet}(15,4)$, $\text{Pet}(17,4)$ or the Coxeter graph. We show that for a cubic vertex-transitive graphs $Γ$ of girth $7$, if every edge of $Γ$ is contained in the same number of $7$-cycles, then $Γ$ is also arc-transitive.
Stabilizers of consistent walks
A walk of length $n$ in a graph is consistent if there exists an automorphism of the graph that maps the initial $n-1$ vertices to the final $n-1$ vertices of the walk. In this paper we find some sufficient conditions for a consistent walk in an arc-transitive graph to have a trivial pointwise stabilizer. We show that in that case, the size of the smallest generating set of the group is bounded by the valence of the graph.
Domination and independence number of large $2$-crossing-critical graphs
After $2$-crossing-critical graphs were characterized in 2016, their most general subfamily, large $3$-connected $2$-crossing-critical graphs, has attracted separate attention. This paper presents sharp upper and lower bounds for their domination and independence number.
