On uniquely colorable Cayley graphs
We resolve two open problems regarding uniquely colorable Cayley graphs posed by Klotz and Sander (2017). First, we construct an infinite family of uniquely 3-colorable integral circulant graphs with a clique number of 2. This provides a negative answer to Problem 3.6, which asks whether every uniquely colorable circulant graph satisfies $χ(G) = ω(G)$. Because verifying unique colorability inherently relies on the exact independence number, we demonstrate that traditional spectral bounds fail to tightly capture this parameter, necessitating a rigorous combinatorial proof based on exact structural isomorphisms. Second, we establish a general algebraic construction proving the existence of uniquely colorable Cayley graphs over nonabelian groups whose color classes are left cosets of strictly distinct subgroups. By utilizing right-coset partitions of non-normal subgroups, this result provides a definitive affirmative answer to Problem 2.4.
Further results on the lower bound on reduced Zagreb index of trees
For a graph $G$, the general reduced second Zagreb index is defined as $$GRM_λ(G) = \sum_{uv \in E} (deg(u) + λ) (deg(v) + λ),$$ where $λ$ is an arbitrary real number and $deg (v)$ is the degree of the vertex $v$.
In this paper, we extend and correct the equality results from [N. Dehgardia, S. Klav\v zar, {\it Improved lower bounds on the general reduced second Zagreb index of trees}, preprint (2023)] regarding the minimal value of $GRM_λ$ for $λ\geq -1$ among trees with $n$ vertices and a maximal degree $Δ$. Furthermore, we complement these results with two distinct approaches to determine the minimum value of the general reduced second Zagreb index for molecular trees with $Δ= 3$ and $Δ= 4$ in $λ= -2$, and characterize the extremal trees.
On the maximum $σ$-irregularity of trees with given order and maximum degree
The $σ$-irregularity index of a graph is defined as the sum of squared degree differences over all edges and provides a sensitive measure of structural heterogeneity. In this paper, we study the problem of maximizing $σ(T)$ among all trees of fixed order $n$ and prescribed maximum degree $Δ\ge4$. By expressing the problem in terms of edge--degree multiplicities, we derive a linear programming formulation and analyze its dual. This approach yields sharp upper bounds for $σ(T)$ and leads to a detailed description of extremal degree--pair distributions. We show that the extremal problem can be completely resolved for the congruence classes $n\equiv1\pmodΔ$ and $n\equiv0\pmodΔ$. When $n\equiv1\pmodΔ$, the linear program admits an integral optimal solution, and the bound for $σ(T)$ is tight. When $n\equiv0\pmodΔ$, the linear relaxation is not attainable by any tree; nevertheless, by introducing a penalty function derived from dual slack variables, we determine the exact maximum value of $σ(T)$. In both cases, all extremal trees are characterized explicitly and consist exclusively of vertices of degrees $1$, $2$, and $Δ$, with edges incident to $Δ$-vertices playing a dominant role.
Trees with maximum $σ$-irregularity under a prescribed maximum degree 6
The sigma-irregularity index $σ(G) = \sum_{uv \in E(G)} (d_G(u) - d_G(v))^2$ measures the total degree imbalance along the edges of a graph. We study extremal problems for $σ(T)$ within the class of trees of fixed order $n$ and bounded maximum degree $Δ= 6$. Using a penalty-function framework combined with handshake identities and congruence arguments, we determine the exact maximum value of $σ(T)$ for every residue class of $n$ modulo $6$, showing that the possible minimum values of the penalty function are $0, 10, 20, 22, 30,$ and $40$. For each case, we provide a complete characterization of all maximizing trees in terms of degree counts and edge multiplicities. In five of the six residue classes, all extremal trees contain only vertices of degrees $1, 2,$ and $6$, while for $n \equiv 3 \pmod{6}$ an additional exceptional family arises involving vertices of degree $3$. These results extend earlier work on sigma-irregularity for smaller degree bounds and illustrate the rapidly growing combinatorial complexity of the problem as the maximum degree increases.
The least eigenvalues of integral circulant graphs
The integral circulant graph $ICG_n (D)$ has the vertex set $Z_n = \{0, 1, 2, \ldots, n - 1\}$, where vertices $a$ and $b$ are adjacent if $\gcd(a-b,n)\in D$, with $D \subseteq \{d : d \mid n,\ 1\leq d<n\}$. In this paper, we establish that the minimal value of the least eigenvalues (minimal least eigenvalue) of integral circulant graphs $ICG_n(D)$, given an order $n$ with its prime factorization $p_1^{α_1}\cdots p_k^{α_k}$, is equal to $-\frac{n}{p_1}$. Moreover, we show that the minimal least eigenvalue of connected integral circulant graphs $ICG_n(D)$ of order $n$ whose complements are also connected is equal to $-\frac{n}{p_1}+p_1^{α_1-1}$. Finally, we determine the second minimal eigenvalue among all least eigenvalues within the class of connected integral circulant graphs of a prescribed order $n$ and show it to be equal to $-\frac{n}{p_1}+p_1-1$ or $-\frac{n}{p_1}+1$, depending on whether $α_1>1$ or not, respectively. In all the aforementioned tasks, we provide a complete characterization of graphs whose spectra contain these determined minimal least eigenvalues.
Graphs with three and four distinct eigenvalues based on circulants
In this paper, we aim to address the open questions raised in various recent papers regarding characterization of circulant graphs with three or four distinct eigenvalues in their spectra. Our focus is on providing characterizations and constructing classes of graphs falling under this specific category. We present a characterization of circulant graphs with prime number order and unitary Cayley graphs with arbitrary order, both of which possess spectra displaying three or four distinct eigenvalues. Various constructions of circulant graphs with composite orders are provided whose spectra consist of four distinct eigenvalues. These constructions primarily utilize specific subgraphs of circulant graphs that already possess two or three eigenvalues in their spectra, employing graph operations like the tensor product, the union, and the complement. Finally, we characterize the iterated line graphs of unitary Cayley graphs whose spectra contain three or four distinct eigenvalues, and we show their non-circulant nature.
Maximal diameter of integral circulant graphs
Integral circulant graphs are proposed as models for quantum spin networks that permit a quantum phenomenon called perfect state transfer. Specifically, it is important to know how far information can potentially be transferred between nodes of the quantum networks modelled by integral circulant graphs and this task is related to calculating the maximal diameter of a graph. The integral circulant graph $ICG_n (D)$ has the vertex set $Z_n = \{0, 1, 2, \ldots, n - 1\}$ and vertices $a$ and $b$ are adjacent if $\gcd(a-b,n)\in D$, where $D \subseteq \{d : d \mid n,\ 1\leq d<n\}$. Motivated by the result on the upper bound of the diameter of $ICG_n(D)$ given in [N. Saxena, S. Severini, I. Shparlinski, \textit{Parameters of integral circulant graphs and periodic quantum dynamics}, International Journal of Quantum Information 5 (2007), 417--430], according to which $2|D|+1$ represents one such bound, in this paper we prove that the maximal value of the diameter of the integral circulant graph $ICG_n(D)$ of a given order $n$ with its prime factorization $p_1^{α_1}\cdots p_k^{α_k}$, is equal to $r(n)$ or $r(n)+1$, where $r(n)=k + |\{ i \ | α_i> 1,\ 1\leq i\leq k \}|$, depending on whether $n\not\in 4N+2$ or not, respectively. Furthermore, we show that, for a given order $n$, a divisor set $D$ with $|D|\leq k$ can always be found such that this bound is attained. Finally, we calculate the maximal diameter in the class of integral circulant graphs of a given order $n$ and cardinality of the divisor set $t\leq k$ and characterize all extremal graphs. We actually show that the maximal diameter can have the values $2t$, $2t+1$, $r(n)$ and $r(n)+1$ depending on the values of $t$ and $n$. This way we further improve the upper bound of Saxena, Severini and Shparlinski and we also characterize all graphs whose diameters are equal to $2|D|+1$, thus generalizing a result in that paper.
Maximum values of the Sombor-index-like graph invariants of trees and connected graphs
A set of novel vertex-degree-based invariants was introduced by Gutman, denoted by \newline $SO_1, SO_2, \ldots,SO_6$. These invariants were constructed through geometric reasoning based on a new graph invariant framework. Motivated by proposed open problems in [Z. Tang, Q. Li, H. Deng, \textit{Trees with Extremal Values of the Sombor-Index-Like Graph Invariants}, MATCH Commun. Math. Comput. Chem. \textbf{90} (2023) 203-222], we have found the maximum values of $SO_5$ and $SO_6$ in the set of molecular trees with a given number of vertices, respectively, and we have found the maximum value of $SO_5$ in a class of connected graphs.
Path matrix and path energy of graphs
Given a graph $G$, we associate a path matrix $P$ whose $(i, j)$ entry represents the maximum number of vertex disjoint paths between the vertices $i$ and $j$, with zeros on the main diagonal. In this note, we resolve four conjectures from [M. M. Shikare, P. P. Malavadkar, S. C. Patekar, I. Gutman, \emph{On Path Eigenvalues and Path Energy of Graphs}, MATCH Commun. Math. Comput. Chem. {\bf 79} (2018), 387--398.] on the path energy of graphs and finally present efficient $O(|E| |V|^3)$ algorithm for computing the path matrix used for verifying computational results.
New results on the energy of integral circulant graphs
Circulant graphs are an important class of interconnection networks in parallel and distributed computing. Integral circulant graphs play an important role in modeling quantum spin networks supporting the perfect state transfer as well. The integral circulant graph $\ICG_n (D)$ has the vertex set $Z_n = \{0, 1, 2, ..., n - 1\}$ and vertices $a$ and $b$ are adjacent if $\gcd(a-b,n)\in D$, where $D \subseteq \{d : d \mid n,\ 1\leq d<n\}$. These graphs are highly symmetric, have integral spectra and some remarkable properties connecting chemical graph theory and number theory. The energy of a graph was first defined by Gutman, as the sum of the absolute values of the eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix. Recently, there was a vast research for the pairs and families of non-cospectral graphs having equal energies. Following [R. B. Bapat, S. Pati, \textit{Energy of a graph is never an odd integer}, Bull. Kerala Math. Assoc. 1 (2004) 129--132.], we characterize the energy of integral circulant graph modulo 4. Furthermore, we establish some general closed form expressions for the energy of integral circulant graphs and generalize some results from [A. Ili\' c, \textit{The energy of unitary Cayley graphs}, Linear Algebra Appl. 431 (2009), 1881--1889.]. We close the paper by proposing some open problems and characterizing extremal graphs with minimal energy among integral circulant graphs with $n$ vertices, provided $n$ is even.

The concept of gcd-graphs is introduced by Klotz and Sander, which arises as a generalization of unitary Cayley graphs. The gcd-graph $X_n (d_1,...,d_k)$ has vertices $0,1,...,n-1$, and two vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent iff $\gcd(x-y,n)\in D = \{d_1,d_2,...,d_k\}$. These graphs are exactly the same as circulant graphs with integral eigenvalues characterized by So. In this paper we deal with the clique number of integral circulant graphs and investigate the conjecture proposed in \cite{klotz07} that clique number divides the number of vertices in the graph $X_n (D)$. We completely solve the problem of finding clique number for integral circulant graphs with exactly one and two divisors. For $k \geqslant 3$, we construct a family of counterexamples and disprove the conjecture in this case.
