A coarse-geometry characterization of cacti
We give a quasi-isometric characterization of cacti, which is similar to Manning's characterization of quasi-trees by the bottleneck property. We also give another quasi-isometric characterization of cacti using fat theta curves.
Graph minors and metric spaces
We present problems and results that combine graph-minors and coarse geometry. For example, we ask whether every geodesic metric space (or graph) without a fat $H$ minor is quasi-isometric to a graph with no $H$ minor, for an arbitrary finite graph $H$. We answer this affirmatively for a few small $H$. We also present a metric analogue of Menger's theorem and Konig's ray theorem. We conjecture metric analogues of the Erdos--Posa Theorem and Halin's grid theorem.
Polynomial growth and asymptotic dimension

Bonamy et al \cite{BBEGLPS} showed that graphs of polynomial growth have finite asymptotic dimension. We refine their result showing that a graph of polynomial growth strictly less than $n^{k+1}$ has asymptotic dimension at most $k$. As a corollary Riemannian manifolds of bounded geometry and polynomial growth strictly less than $n^{k+1}$ have asymptotic dimension at most $k$.
We show also that there are graphs of growth $<n^{1+ε}$ for any $ε>0$ and infinite asymptotic Assouad-Nagata dimension.

We show that the asymptotic dimension of a geodesic space that is homeomorphic to a subset in the plane is at most three. In particular, the asymptotic dimension of the plane and any planar graph is at most three.

In this note, we prove that all cop-win graphs G in the game in which the robber and the cop move at different speeds s and s' with s'<s, are δ-hyperbolic with δ=O(s^2). We also show that the dependency between δand s is linear if s-s'=Ω(s) and G obeys a slightly stronger condition. This solves an open question from the paper (J. Chalopin et al., Cop and robber games when the robber can hide and ride, SIAM J. Discr. Math. 25 (2011) 333-359). Since any δ-hyperbolic graph is cop-win for s=2r and s'=r+2δfor any r>0, this establishes a new - game-theoretical - characterization of Gromov hyperbolicity. We also show that for weakly modular graphs the dependency between δand s is linear for any s'<s. Using these results, we describe a simple constant-factor approximation of the hyperbolicity δof a graph on n vertices in O(n^2) time when the graph is given by its distance-matrix.
A cactus theorem for end cuts

Dinits-Karzanov-Lomonosov showed that it is possible to encode all minimal edge cuts of a graph by a tree-like structure called a cactus. We show here that minimal edge cuts separating ends of the graph rather than vertices can be `encoded' also by a cactus. We apply our methods to finite graphs as well and we show that several types of cuts can be encoded by cacti.
