Sufficiency of Hall's Condition for Graphic List Coloring
For finite simple graphs $G,H$ on a common vertex set $V$, we say that $H$ is $G$-colorable if $H$ admits a proper list coloring with list assignment $L(v)=N_G(v)$ for all $v\in V$. This notion of coloring a graph using the neighborhood of another graph on the same vertex set, which we call \emph{graphic list coloring}, has connections to several classical topics, including systems of distinct representatives and graph factorizations. In this paper, we investigate when a necessary Hall-type condition, introduced by Hilton and Johnson in 1990, is also sufficient for $H$ to be $G$-colorable. We characterize all graphs $H$ that are $G$-colorable whenever the pair $(H,G)$ satisfies Hall's condition, answering a question raised by Johnson. We then consider the dual problem of characterizing graphs $G$ such that, whenever $(H,G)$ satisfies Hall's condition, $H$ is $G$-colorable. In this vein, we obtain complete results for several families of graphs, such as forests, complete multipartite graphs, and grid graphs.
All Polyominoes are $C_4$-face-magic
For a planar graph $G = (V, E)$ embedded in $\mathbb{R}^2$, let $\mathcal{F}(G)$ denote the set of faces of $G$. Then $G$ is called a \textit{$C_n$-face-magic} graph if there exists a bijection $f: V(G) \to \{1, 2, \dots, |V(G)|\}$ such that for any $F \in \mathcal{F}(G)$ with $F \cong C_n$, the sum of all the vertex labels along $C_n$ is a constant $c$. In this paper, we prove that all polyominoes are $C_4$-face-magic.
Application of the Combinatorial Nullstellensatz to magic-type graph labelings
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a simple graph, and let $k\geq 2$ be an integer. For an edge labeling $h:E(G)\to \mathbb{Z}_{k} \backslash \{0\}$, define the induced vertex label by \[ h^+(v)=\sum_{e \ni v} h(e) \pmod{k}. \] For $t\in \mathbb Z_k$, we say that $G$ is \emph{$t$-sum $\mathbb Z_k$-magic} if there exists such a labeling $h$ satisfying \[ h^+(v)=t \qquad\text{for all }v\in V. \] We say that $G$ is \emph{$\mathbb Z_k$-magic} if $G$ is $t$-sum $\mathbb Z_k$-magic for some $t\in \mathbb Z_k$. Similarly, if there exists an edge labeling $h: E(G) \to \mathbb{Z}_{k} \backslash \{0\}$ such that the induced vertex labeling $h^+(v)=\sum_{e\ni v} h(e)$ (mod $k$) is injective, then $G$ is called \emph{$\mathbb{Z}_{k}$-antimagic}. In this paper, we use the Combinatorial Nullstellensatz to analyze these two types of magic graph labelings.
A Proof of the Tree Packing Conjecture
We prove a conjecture of Gyárfás (1976), which asserts that any family of trees $T_1, \dots, T_{n}$ where each $T_k$ has $k$ vertices packs into $K_n$. We do so by translating the decomposition problem into a labeling problem, namely complete labeling. Our proof employs the polynomial method using a functional reformulation of the conjecture.
Every tree on $n$ edges decomposes $K_{nx,nx}$ and $K_{2nx+1}$
We prove that every tree on $n$ edges decomposes $K_{nx,nx}$ and $K_{2nx + 1}$ for all positive integers $x$. The said decompositions are obtained by proving that every tree admits a $\vecβ$-labeling (oriented beta-labeling). Our proof employs the polynomial method by identifying trees as functions in the transformation monoid $\mathbb{Z}_n^{\mathbb{Z}_n}$. A proof of the graceful tree conjecture (1967) follows as an immediate consequence of the current result. Finally, we introduce additional algebraic properties derived from the decomposition results.
