On the heat content of compact quantum graphs
We study the heat content for Laplacians on compact, finite metric graphs with Dirichlet conditions imposed at the "boundary" (i.e., a given set of vertices). We prove a closed formula of combinatorial flavour, as it is expressed as a sum over all closed orbits hitting the boundary. Our approach delivers a small-time asymptotic expansion that delivers information on crucial geometric quantities of the metric graph, much in the spirit of the celebrated corresponding result for manifolds due to Gilkey-van den Berg; but unlike other known formulae based on different methods, ours holds for all times $t>0$ and it displays stronger decay rate in the short time limit. Furthermore, we prove new surgery principles for the heat content and use them to derive comparison principles for the heat content between metric graphs of different topology.

On the $p$-torsional rigidity of combinatorial graphs
We study the $p$-\emph{torsion function} and the corresponding $p$-\emph{torsional rigidity} associated with $p$-Laplacians and, more generally, $p$-Schrödinger operators, for $1<p<\infty$, on possibly infinite combinatorial graphs. We present sufficient criteria for the existence of a summable $p$-torsion function and we derive several upper and lower bounds for the $p$-torsional rigidity. Our methods are mostly based on novel surgery principles. As an application, we also find some new estimates on the bottom of the spectrum of the $p$-Laplacian with Dirichlet conditions, thus complementing some results recently obtained in: José M. Mazón, Julian Toledo, Torsional rigidity in random walk spaces, in a more general setting. Finally, we prove a Kohler-Jobin inequality for combinatorial graphs (for $p=2$): to the best of our knowledge, graphs thus become the third ambient where a Kohler-Jobin inequality is known to hold.

On the surface area of graphs, related connectivity measures and spectral estimates
In this note we elaborate on some notions of surface area for discrete graphs which are closely related to the inverse degree. These notions then naturally lead to associated connectivity measures of graphs and to the definition of a special class of large graphs, called social graphs, that might prove interesting for applications. In addition, we derive spectral estimates involving the surface area and, as a main result, present an upper bound on the second eigenvalue for planar graphs which in some cases improves upon existing bounds from D. A. Spielman and S.-H. Teng, Spectral partitioning works: Planar graphs and finite element meshes, and M. Plümer, Upper eigenvalue bounds for the Kirchhoff Laplacian on embedded metric graphs.
