Isometry Groups of Combinatorial Codes

Two isometry groups of combinatorial codes are described: the group of automorphisms and the group of monomial automorphisms, which is the group of those automorphisms that extend to monomial maps. Unlike the case of classical linear codes, where these groups are the same, it is shown that for combinatorial codes the groups can be arbitrary different. Particularly, there exist codes with the full automorphism group and the trivial monomial automorphism group. In the paper the two groups are characterized and codes with predefined isometry groups are constructed.

The MacWilliams Extension Theorem states that each linear Hamming isometry of a linear code extends to a monomial map. In this paper an analogue of the extension theorem for linear codes over a module alphabet is observed. A geometric approach to the extendability of isometries is described. For a matrix module alphabet we found the minimum length of a code for which an unextendable Hamming isometry exists. We also proved an extension theorem for MDS codes over a module alphabet.

The MacWilliams Extension Theorem states that each linear isometry of a linear code extends to a monomial map. Unlike the linear codes, in general, additive codes do not have the extension property. In this paper, an analogue of the extension theorem for additive codes in the case of additive MDS codes is proved. More precisely, it is shown that for almost all additive MDS codes their additive isometries extend to isometries of the ambient space.

In the paper there are described minimal nontrivial solutions of the isometry equation. This equation naturally appears in the coding theory in the study of additive code isometries. The minimal nontrivial solutions correspond to the case of unextendible additive isometries of the shortest code length. Based on this full description, several useful properties of minimal nontrivial solutions were observed.

For linear codes, the MacWilliams Extension Theorem states that each linear isometry of a linear code extends to a linear isometry of the whole space. But, in general, it is not the situation for nonlinear codes. In this paper it is proved, that if the length of an additive code is less than some threshold value, then an analogue of the MacWilliams Extension Theorem holds. One family of unextendible code isometries for the threshold value of code length is described.
