Multiplicity Bounds for Arbitrary Eigenvalues of Connected Signed Graphs
The study of eigenvalue multiplicities plays a central role in the spectral theory of signed graphs, extending several classical results from the unsigned setting. While most existing work focuses on the nullity of a signed graph (the multiplicity of the eigenvalue $0$), much less is known for arbitrary eigenvalues. In this paper, we establish a sharp upper bound for the multiplicity $m(G_σ, λ)$ of any real eigenvalue $λ$ of a connected signed graph $G_σ$ in terms of its girth. Our main result shows that \[ m(G_σ, λ) \le n - g(G_σ) + 2, \] where $n$ is the number of vertices and $g(G_σ)$ is the girth. We prove that equality holds if and only if $G_σ$ is switching equivalent to one of the following extremal families: \begin{itemize} \item[(i)] a balanced complete graph with $λ= -1$; \item[(ii)] an antibalanced complete graph with $λ= 1$; or \item[(iii)] a balanced complete bipartite graph with $λ= 0$. \end{itemize} This fully extends and generalizes the known result for the nullity case ($λ= 0$), originally due to Wu et al.\ (2022), to the entire eigenvalue spectrum. Our approach combines Cauchy interlacing, switching equivalence, and a structural analysis of induced cycles in signed graphs. We also provide a characterization of eigenvalues with multiplicity $1$ and $2$ for signed cycles, and include examples illustrating the sharpness and spectral behavior of the extremal families.
Characterizing the positive inertia index of connected signed graphs in terms of girth
Let $G^σ=(G,σ)$ be a connected signed graph and $A(G^σ)$ be its adjacency matrix. The positive inertia index of $G^σ$, denoted by $p^{+}(G^σ)$, is defined as the number of positive eigenvalues of $A(G^σ)$. Assume that $G^σ$ contains at least one cycle, and let $g_{r}$ be its girth. In this paper, we prove $p^{+}(G^σ) \geq \lceil \frac {g_{r}}{2} \rceil-1$ for a signed graph $G^σ$. The extremal signed graphs corresponding to $p^{+}(G^σ) = \lceil \frac {g_{r}}{2} \rceil-1$ and $p^{+}(G^σ) =\lceil \frac {g_{r}}{2} \rceil$ are characterized, respectively. The results presented in this article extend the recent work on ordinary graphs by Duan and Yang (Linear Algebra Appl., 2024) to the context of signed graphs.

A bound on the girth of quaternion unit gain graphs in terms of the rank
We obtain a bound on the girth g of a quaternion unit gain graph in terms of the rank r of its adjacency matrix. In particular, we show that g <= r + 2 and characterize all quaternion unit gain graphs for which g = r+2. This extends corresponding results for (ordinary) graphs, signed graphs, and complex unit gain graphs.

Gain distance Laplacian matrices for complex unit gain graphs
A complex unit gain graph (or a $\mathbb{T}$-gain graph) $Θ(Σ,\varphi)$ is a graph where the unit complex number is assign by a function $\varphi$ to every oriented edge of $Σ$ and assign its inverse to the opposite orientation. In this paper, we define the two gain distance Laplacian matrices $DL^{\max}_{<}(Θ)$ and $DL^{\min}_{<}(Θ)$ corresponding to the two gain distance matrices $D^{\max}_{<}(Θ)$ and $D^{\min}_{<}(Θ)$ defined for $\mathbb{T}$-gain graphs $Θ(Σ,\varphi)$, for any vertex ordering $(V(Σ),<)$. Furthermore, we provide the characterization of singularity and find formulas for the rank of those Laplacian matrices. We also establish two types of characterization for balanced in complex unit gain graphs while using the gain distance Lapalcian matrices. Most of the results are derived by proving them more generally for weighted $\mathbb{T}$-gain graphs.
