For a non-decreasing sequence $S = (s_1, \ldots, s_k)$ of positive integers, an $S$-packing edge-coloring of a graph $G$ is a decomposition of edges of $G$ into disjoint sets $E_1, \ldots, E_k$ such that for each $1 \le i \le k$ the distance between any two distinct edges $e_1, e_2 \in E_i$ is at least $s_i+1$. The notion of $S$-packing edge-coloring was first generalized by Gastineau and Togni from its vertex counterpart. They showed that there are subcubic graphs that are not $(1,2,2,2,2,2,2)$-packing (abbreviated to $(1,2^6)$-packing) edge-colorable and asked the question whether every subcubic graph is $(1,2^7)$-packing edge-colorable. Very recently, Hocquard, Lajou, and Lužar showed that every subcubic graph is $(1,2^8)$-packing edge-colorable and every $3$-edge colorable subcubic graph is $(1,2^7)$-packing edge-colorable. Furthermore, they also conjectured that every subcubic graph is $(1,2^7)$-packing edge-colorable.
In this paper, we confirm the conjecture of Hocquard, Lajou, and Lužar, and extend it to multigraphs.
Independent Sets in n-vertex k-chromatic, \ell-connected graphs
We study the problem of maximizing the number of independent sets in $n$-vertex $k$-chromatic $\ell$-connected graphs. First we consider maximizing the total number of independent sets in such graphs with $n$ sufficiently large, and for this problem we use a stability argument to find the unique extremal graph. We show that our result holds within the larger family of $n$-vertex $k$-chromatic graphs with minimum degree at least $\ell$, again for $n$ sufficiently large. We also maximize the number of independent sets of each fixed size in $n$-vertex 3-chromatic 2-connected graphs. We finally address maximizing the number of independent sets of size 2 (equivalently, minimizing the number of edges) over all $n$-vertex $k$-chromatic $\ell$-connected graphs.
The saturation number of carbon nanocones and nanotubes
The saturation number of a graph is the cardinality of a smallest maximal matching. This paper presents bounds for the saturation number of carbon nanocones which are asymptotically equal. The same techniques are applied for the saturation number of certain families of carbon nanotubes, which improve previous results and in one case, yields the exact value.

Joint degree vectors give the number of edges between vertices of degree $i$ and degree $j$ for $1\le i\le j\le n-1$ in an $n$-vertex graph. We find lower and upper bounds for the maximum number of nonzero elements in a joint degree vector as a function of $n$. This provides an upper bound on the number of estimable parameters in the exponential random graph model with bidegree-distribution as its sufficient statistics.
Maximal matchings in polyspiro and benzenoid chains

A matching $M$ of a graph $G$ is maximal if it is not a proper subset of any other matching in $G$. Maximal matchings are much less known and researched than their maximum and perfect counterparts. In particular, almost nothing is known about their enumerative properties. In this paper we present the recurrences and generating functions for the sequences enumerating maximal matchings in two classes of chemically interesting linear polymers: polyspiro chains and benzenoid chains. We also analyze the asymptotic behavior of those sequences and determine the extremal cases.
On some conjectures concerning critical independent sets of a graph

Let $G$ be a simple graph with vertex set $V(G)$. A set $S\subseteq V(G)$ is independent if no two vertices from $S$ are adjacent. For $X\subseteq V(G)$, the difference of $X$ is $d(X) = |X|-|N(X)|$ and an independent set $A$ is critical if $d(A) = \max \{d(X): X\subseteq V(G) \text{ is an independent set}\}$ (possibly $A=\emptyset$). Let $\text{nucleus}(G)$ and $\text{diadem}(G)$ be the intersection and union, respectively, of all maximum size critical independent sets in $G$. In this paper, we will give two new characterizations of König-Egerváry graphs involving $\text{nucleus}(G)$ and $\text{diadem}(G)$. We also prove a related lower bound for the independence number of a graph. This work answers several conjectures posed by Jarden, Levit, and Mandrescu.
