Completely Independent Spanning Trees in $k$-Outerplanar Triangulated Discs
Let $T_{1}, T_{2}, \dots, T_{k}$ be $k$ spanning trees of a graph $G$. For any pair of vertices $u$ and $v$, if the $u$--$v$ paths in the $k$ spanning trees are pairwise openly disjoint, then the spanning trees are called completely independent spanning trees (CISTs) of $G$. In this paper, we first prove that every 3-connected 2-outerplanar triangulated disc has two completely independent spanning trees. Next, for a 3-connected 3-outerplanar triangulated disc $G$, we provide sufficient conditions for $G$ to have two completely independent spanning trees. We provide an example of a 3-connected 4-outerplanar triangulation that does not have two completely independent spanning trees.
An Upper Bound for the Double Domination Number in Maximal Outerplanar Graphs
In a graph $G$, a vertex dominates itself and its neighbors. A subset $S$ of vertices of $G$ is a double dominating set of $G$ if every vertex is dominated by at least two vertices in $S$. The double domination number $γ_{\times 2}(G)$ of $G$ is the minimum cardinality of a double dominating set of $G$. In this paper, we prove that, for a maximal outerplanar graph $G$, the double domination number $γ_{\times 2}(G)$ is at most $(n+k)/2$, where $k$ is the number of pairs of consecutive vertices on the outer cycle but at distance at least 3. Although this bound was previously proposed by Abd Aziz, Rad and Kamarulhaili (A note on the double domination number in maximal outerplanar and planar graphs, RAIRO Operations Research, 56 (2022) 3367--3371), their proof was found to be incomplete. In this paper we establish the validity of this result by providing a complete proof.
A Lower bound for Secure Domination Number of an Outerplanar Graph
A subset $S$ of vertices in a graph $G$ is a secure dominating set of $G$ if $S$ is a dominating set of $G$ and, for each vertex $u \not\in S$, there is a vertex $v \in S$ such that $uv$ is an edge and $(S \setminus \{v\}) \cup \{u\}$ is also a dominating set of $G$. The secure domination number of $G$, denoted by $γ_{s}(G)$, is the cardinality of a smallest secure dominating sets of $G$. In this paper, we prove that for any outerplanar graph with $n \geq 4$ vertices, $γ_{s}(G) \geq (n+4)/5$ and the bound is tight.
Secure Total Domination Number in Maximal Outerplanar Graphs
A subset $S$ of vertices in a graph $G$ is a secure total dominating set of $G$ if $S$ is a total dominating set of $G$ and, for each vertex $u \not\in S$, there is a vertex $v \in S$ such that $uv$ is an edge and $(S \setminus \{v\}) \cup \{u\}$ is also a total dominating set of $G$. We show that if $G$ is a maximal outerplanar graph of order $n$, then $G$ has a total secure dominating set of size at most $\lfloor 2n/3 \rfloor$. Moreover, if an outerplanar graph $G$ of order $n$, then each secure total dominating set has at least $\lceil (n+2)/3 \rceil$ vertices. We show that these bounds are best possible.
On the distance preserving trees in graphs
For a vertex $v$ of a graph $G$, a spanning tree $T$ of $G$ is distance-preserving from $v$ if, for any vertex $w$, the distance from $v$ to $w$ on $T$ is the same as the distance from $v$ to $w$ on $G$. If two vertices $u$ and $v$ are distinct, then two distance-preserving spanning trees $T_{u}$ from $u$ and $T_{v}$ from $v$ are distinct in general. A purpose of this paper is to give a characterization for a given weighted graph $G$ to have a spanning tree $T$ such that $T$ is a distance-preserving spanning tree from distinct two vertices.
