Hall's universal group does not have finite big Ramsey degrees
In this paper we show that the Hall's universal group does not have finite big Ramsey degrees. Our strategy consists of piggybacking on the recent result of Hubička, Konečný, Todorčević and Zucker (announced at EUROCOMB~2025) that the Fraïssé limit of the class of all finite complete edge-labelled graphs with where the set of labels is countably infinite does not have finite big Ramsey degrees. We then use our categorical machinery to transport their result from the context of edge-lebelled graphs to the context of groups.
Fraïssé's Conjecture and big Ramsey degrees of structures admitting finite monomorphic decomposition
In this paper we show that a countable structure admitting a finite monomorphic decomposition has finite big Ramsey degrees if and only if so does every monomorphic part in its minimal monomorphic decomposition. The necessary prerequisite for this result is the characterization of monomorphic structures with finite big Ramsey degrees: a countable monomorphic structure has finite big Ramsey degrees if and only if it is chainable by a chain with finite big Ramsey degrees. Interestingly, both characterizations require deep structural properties of chains. Fraïssé's Conjecture (actually, its positive resolution due to Laver) is instrumental in the characterization of monomorphic structures with finite big Ramsey degrees, while the analysis of big Ramsey combinatorics of structures admitting a finite monomorphic decomposition requires a product Ramsey theorem for big Ramsey degrees. We find this last result particularly intriguing because big Ramsey degrees misbehave notoriously when it comes to general product statements.
Conant's Metric Spectra Problem
In this paper, we try to minimize the scope of possible unique metric spectra up to equivalence. While it is well known that every spectra $S\subseteq \mathbb{R}^+$ is equivalent to a spectra $T\subseteq \mathbb{N}$, it has remained open if $T$ could also maintain a desirable combinatorial form. Conant questioned if $T= \{t_1,...,t_n \}_{<}$ could be taken such that $2^i-1 \leq t_i \leq 2^n -1$. In this paper, we come to two partial answers. The first is that the largest element $t_n$ can be chosen such that $t_n\leq 2^n $. Approximating a full solution, we also observe $T$ with the combinatorial form $2^i \leq t_i \leq 2^{n+1}$. Our methods are rather unique in the field as we utilize linear optimization and polygonal geometry to achieve our results. Our work aims to approach a full characterization of metric spectra, and simplify future computational endeavors in the field.
