Double domination in maximal outerplanar graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
In a graph $G$, a vertex dominates itself and its neighbors. A subset $S\subseteq V(G)$ is said to be a double dominating set of $G$ if $S$ dominates every vertex of $G$ at least twice. The double domination number $γ_{\times 2}(G)$ is the minimum cardinality of a double dominating set of $G$. We show that if $G$ is a maximal outerplanar graph on $n\geq 3$ vertices, then $γ_{\times 2}(G)\leq \lfloor \frac{2n}{3}\rfloor$. Further, if $n\geq 4$, then $γ_{\times 2}(G)\leq \min \{\lfloor \frac{n+t}{2}\rfloor, n-t\}$, where $t$ is the number of vertices of degree $2$ in $G$. These bounds are shown to be tight. In addition, we also study the case that $G$ is a striped maximal outerplanar graph.

Disjunctive domination in graphs with minimum degree at least two
Published • View PublicationBIB
A set $D$ of vertices in $G$ is a disjunctive dominating set in $G$ if every vertex not in $D$ is adjacent to a vertex of $D$ or has at least two vertices in $D$ at distance $2$ from it in $G$. The disjunctive domination number, $γ^{d}_2(G)$, of $G$ is the minimum cardinality of a disjunctive dominating set in $G$. In this paper, we show that if $G$ be a graph of order at least $3$, $δ(G)\geq 2$ and with no component isomorphic to any of eight forbidden graphs, then $γ^{d}_2(G)\leq \frac{|G|}{3}$. Moreover, we provide an infinite family of graphs attaining this bound. In addition, we also study the case that $G$ is a claw-free graph with minimum degree at least two.

A note on semitotal domination in graphs
A set $S$ of vertices in $G$ is a semitotal dominating set of $G$ if it is a dominating set of $G$ and every vertex in $S$ is within distance $2$ of another vertex of $S$. The \emph{semitotal domination number}, $γ_{t2}(G)$, is the minimum cardinality of a semitotal dominating set of $G$. The \emph{semitotal domination multisubdivision number} of a graph $G$, $msd_{γ_{t2}}(G)$, is the minimum positive integer $k$ such that there exists an edge which must be subdivided $k$ times to increase the semitotal domination number of $G$. In this paper, we show that $msd_{γ_{t2}}(G)\leq 3$ for any graph $G$ of order at least $3$, we also determine the semitotal domination multisubdivision number for some classes of graphs and characterize trees $T$ with $msd_{γ_{t2}}(T)=3$. On the other hand, we know that $γ_{t2}(G)$ is a parameter that is squeezed between domination number, $γ(G)$ and total domination number, $γ_t(G)$, so for any tree $T$, we investigate the ratios $\frac{γ_{t2}(T)}{γ(T)}$ and $\frac{γ_t(T)}{γ_{t2}(T)}$, and present the constructive characterizations of the families of trees achieving the upper bounds.

Super domination in trees
Published • View PublicationBIB
For $S\subseteq V(G)$, we define $\bar{S}=V(G)\setminus S$. A set $S\subseteq V(G)$ is called a super dominating set if for every vertex $u\in \bar{S}$, there exists $v\in S$ such that $N(v)\cap \bar{S}=\{u\}$. The super domination number $γ_{sp}(G)$ of $G$ is the minimum cardinality among all super dominating sets in $G$. The super domination subdivision number $sd_{γ_{sp}}(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the minimum number of edges that must be subdivided in order to increase the super domination number of $G$. In this paper, we investigate the ratios between super domination and other domination parameters in trees. In addition, we show that for any nontrivial tree $T$, $1\leq sd_{γ_{sp}}(T)\leq 2$, and give constructive characterizations of trees whose super domination subdivision number are $1$ and $2$, respectively.

Disjunctive domination in trees
In this paper, we study a parameter that is a relaxation of arguably the most important domination parameter, namely the domination number. Given the sheer scale of modern networks, many existing domination type structures are expensive to implement. Variations on the theme of dominating and total dominating sets studied to date tend to focus on adding restrictions which in turn raises their implementation costs. As an alternative route a relaxation of the domination number, called disjunctive domination, was proposed and studied by Goddard et al. We show that if $T$ is a tree of order $n$ with $l$ leaves and $s$ support vertices, then $\frac{n-l+3}{4}\leq γ^{d}_2(T)\leq \frac{n+l+s}{4}$. Moreover, we characterize the families of trees which attain these bounds.

Semitotal domination in trees
Published in Discrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, vol. 20 no. 2, Graph Theory (September 28, 2018) dmtcs:4413 • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we study a parameter that is squeezed between arguably the two important domination parameters, namely the domination number, $γ(G)$, and the total domination number, $γ_t(G)$. A set $S$ of vertices in $G$ is a semitotal dominating set of $G$ if it is a dominating set of $G$ and every vertex in S is within distance $2$ of another vertex of $S$. The semitotal domination number, $γ_{t2}(G)$, is the minimum cardinality of a semitotal dominating set of $G$. We observe that $γ(G)\leq γ_{t2}(G)\leq γ_t(G)$. In this paper, we give a lower bound for the semitotal domination number of trees and we characterize the extremal trees. In addition, we characterize trees with equal domination and semitotal domination numbers.
