Clique cycle-transversals in distance-hereditary graphs
A cycle-transversal of a graph G is a subset T of V(G) such that T intersects every cycle of G. A clique cycle-transversal, or cct for short, is a cycle-transversal which is a clique. Recognizing graphs which admit a cct can be done in polynomial time; however, no structural characterization of such graphs is known. We characterize distance-hereditary graphs admitting a cct in terms of forbidden induced subgraphs. This extends similar results for chordal graphs and cographs.

Independent sets in edge-clique graphs
We show that the edge-clique graphs of cocktail party graphs have unbounded rankwidth. This, and other observations lead us to conjecture that the edge-clique cover problem is NP-complete for cographs. We show that the independent set problem on edge-clique graphs of cographs and of distance-hereditary graphs can be solved in O(n^4) time. We show that the independent set problem on edge-clique graphs of graphs without odd wheels remains NP-complete.

Graphs of Small Rank-width are Pivot-minors of Graphs of Small Tree-width

We prove that every graph of rank-width $k$ is a pivot-minor of a graph of tree-width at most $2k$. We also prove that graphs of rank-width at most 1, equivalently distance-hereditary graphs, are exactly vertex-minors of trees, and graphs of linear rank-width at most 1 are precisely vertex-minors of paths. In addition, we show that bipartite graphs of rank-width at most 1 are exactly pivot-minors of trees and bipartite graphs of linear rank-width at most 1 are precisely pivot-minors of paths.
The black-and-white coloring problem on distance hereditary graphs and strongly chordal graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
Given a graph G and integers b and w. The black-and-white coloring problem asks if there exist disjoint sets of vertices B and W with |B|=b and |W|=w such that no vertex in B is adjacent to any vertex in W. In this paper we show that the problem is polynomial when restricted to cographs, distance-hereditary graphs, interval graphs and strongly chordal graphs. We show that the problem is NP-complete on splitgraphs.

Some results on triangle partitions
We show that there exist efficient algorithms for the triangle packing problem in colored permutation graphs, complete multipartite graphs, distance-hereditary graphs, k-modular permutation graphs and complements of k-partite graphs (when k is fixed). We show that there is an efficient algorithm for C_4-packing on bipartite permutation graphs and we show that C_4-packing on bipartite graphs is NP-complete. We characterize the cobipartite graphs that have a triangle partition.
