A graph partition problem

Given a graph $G$ on $n$ vertices, for which $m$ is it possible to partition the edge set of the $m$-fold complete graph $mK_n$ into copies of $G$? We show that there is an integer $m_0$, which we call the \emph{partition modulus of $G$}, such that the set $M(G)$ of values of $m$ for which such a partition exists consists of all but finitely many multiples of $m_0$. Trivial divisibility conditions derived from $G$ give an integer $m_1$ which divides $m_0$; we call the quotient $m_0/m_1$ the \emph{partition index of $G$}. It seems that most graphs $G$ have partition index equal to $1$, but we give two infinite families of graphs for which this is not true. We also compute $M(G)$ for various graphs, and outline some connections between our problem and the existence of designs of various types.

In 2000, Enomoto and Ota conjectured that if a graph $G$ satisfies $σ_{2}(G) \geq n + k - 1$, then for any set of $k$ vertices $v_{1}, \dots, v_{k}$ and for any positive integers $n_{1}, \dots, n_{k}$ with $\sum n_{i} = |G|$, there exists a partition of $V(G)$ into $k$ paths $P_{1}, \dots, P_{k}$ such that $v_{i}$ is an end of $P_{i}$ and $|P_{i}| = n_{i}$ for all $i$. We prove this conjecture when $|G|$ is large. Our proof uses the Regularity Lemma along with several extremal lemmas, concluding with an absorbing argument to retrieve misbehaving vertices.

In this paper, we continue the study of neighborhood total domination in graphs first studied by Arumugam and Sivagnanam [Opuscula Math. 31 (2011), 519--531]. A neighborhood total dominating set, abbreviated NTD-set, in a graph $G$ is a dominating set $S$ in $G$ with the property that the subgraph induced by the open neighborhood of the set $S$ has no isolated vertex. The neighborhood total domination number, denoted by $\gnt(G)$, is the minimum cardinality of a NTD-set of $G$. Every total dominating set is a NTD-set, implying that $γ(G) \le \gnt(G) \le \gt(G)$, where $γ(G)$ and $\gt(G)$ denote the domination and total domination numbers of $G$, respectively. Arumugam and Sivagnanam posed the problem of characterizing the connected graphs $G$ of order $n \ge 3$ achieving the largest possible neighborhood total domination number, namely $\gnt(G) = \lceil n/2 \rceil$. A partial solution to this problem was presented by Henning and Rad [Discrete Applied Mathematics 161 (2013), 2460--2466] who showed that $5$-cycles and subdivided stars are the only such graphs achieving equality in the bound when $n$ is odd. In this paper, we characterize the extremal trees achieving equality in the bound when $n$ is even. As a consequence of this tree characterization, a characterization of the connected graphs achieving equality in the bound when $n$ is even can be obtained noting that every spanning tree of such a graph belongs to our family of extremal trees.
Resolving Share and Topological Index
An atom $a$ of a molecular graph $G$ uniquely determines (resolves) a pair $(a_1,a_2)$ of atoms of $G$ if the distance between $a$ and $a_1$ is different from the distance between $a$ and $a_2$. In this paper, we quantify the involvement of each atom $a$ of $G$ in uniquely determining (resolving) a pair $(a_1,a_2)$ of atoms of $G$, which is called the resolving share of $a$ for the pair $(a_1,a_2)$. Using this quantity, we define a distance-based topological index of a molecular graph, which reflects the topology of that molecular graph according to the resolvability behavior of each of its atom, and is called the resolving topological index. Then we compute the resolving topological index of several molecular graphs.
A note on $f^\pm$-Zagreb indices in respect of Jaco Graphs, $J_n(1), n \in \Bbb N$ and the introduction of Khazamula irregularity
The topological indices $irr(G)$ related to the \emph{first Zagreb index,} $M_1(G)$ and the \emph{second Zagreb index,} $M_2(G)$ are the oldest irregularity measures researched. Alberton $[3]$ introduced the \emph{irregularity} of $G$ as $irr(G) = \sum\limits_{e \in E(G)}imb(e), imb(e) = |d(v) - d(u)|_{e=vu}$. In the paper of Fath-Tabar $[7]$, Alberton's indice was named the \emph{third Zagreb indice} to conform with the terminology of chemical graph theory. Recently Ado et.al. $[1]$ introduced the topological indice called \emph{total irregularity}. The latter could be called the \emph{fourth Zagreb indice}. we define the $\pm$\emph{Fibonacci weight,} $f^\pm_i$ of a vertex $v_i$ to be $-f_{d(v_i)},$ if $d(v_i)$ is uneven and $f_{d(v_i)}$, if $d(v_i)$ is even. From the aforesaid we define the $f^\pm$-Zagreb indices. This paper presents introductory results for the undirected underlying graphs of Jaco Graphs, $J_n(1), n \leq 12$. For more on Jaco Graphs $J_n(1)$ see $[9, 10]$. Finally we introduce the \emph{Khazamula irregularity} as a new topological variant.

Locally triangular graphs are known to be halved graphs of bipartite rectagraphs, which are connected triangle-free graphs in which every $2$-arc lies in a unique quadrangle. A graph $Γ$ is locally rank 3 if there exists $G\leq \mathrm{Aut}(Γ)$ such that for each vertex $u$, the permutation group induced by the vertex stabiliser $G_u$ on the neighbourhood $Γ(u)$ is transitive of rank 3. One natural place to seek locally rank 3 graphs is among the locally triangular graphs, where every induced neighbourhood graph is isomorphic to a triangular graph $T_n$. This is because the graph $T_n$, which has vertex set the $2$-subsets of $\{1,\ldots,n\}$ and edge set the pairs of $2$-subsets intersecting at one point, admits a rank 3 group of automorphisms. In this paper, we classify the locally $4$-homogeneous rectagraphs under some additional structural assumptions. We then use this result to classify the connected locally triangular graphs that are also locally rank 3.

For a graph $G$, let $ν_s(G)$ be the induced matching number of $G$. We prove the sharp bound $ν_s(G)\geq \frac{n(G)}{9}$ for every graph $G$ of maximum degree at most $4$ and without isolated vertices that does not contain a certain blown up $5$-cycle as a component. This result implies a consequence of the well known conjecture of Erdős and Nešetřil, saying that the strong chromatic index $χ_s'(G)$ of a graph $G$ is at most $\frac{5}{4}Δ(G)^2$, because $ν_s(G)\geq \frac{m(G)}{χ_s'(G)}$ and $n(G)\geq \frac{m(G)Δ(G)}{2}$. Furthermore, it is shown that there is polynomial-time algorithm that computes induced matchings of size at least $\frac{n(G)}{9}$.
Manipulative waiters with probabilistic intuition

For positive integers $n$ and $q$ and a monotone graph property $\cA$, we consider the two player, perfect information game $\WC(n,q,\cA)$, which is defined as follows. The game proceeds in rounds. In each round, the first player, called Waiter, offers the second player, called Client, $q+1$ edges of the complete graph $K_n$ which have not been offered previously. Client then chooses one of these edges which he keeps and the remaining $q$ edges go back to Waiter. If at the end of the game, the graph which consists of the edges chosen by Client satisfies the property $\cA$, then Waiter is declared the winner; otherwise Client wins the game. In this paper we study such games (also known as Picker-Chooser games) for a variety of natural graph theoretic parameters, such as the size of a largest component or the length of a longest cycle. In particular, we describe a phase transition type phenomenon which occurs when the parameter $q$ is close to $n$ and is reminiscent of phase transition phenomena in random graphs. Namely, we prove that if $q \leq (1 - \varepsilon) n$, then Client can avoid connected components of order $c \varepsilon^{-2} \ln n$ for some absolute constant $c > 0$, whereas, for $q \geq (1 + \varepsilon) n$, Waiter can force a giant, linearly sized, connected component in Client's graph. We also prove that Waiter can force Client's graph to be pancyclic for every $q \leq c n$, where $c > 0$ is an appropriate constant.
Local spectral expansion approach to high dimensional expanders
This paper introduces the notion of local spectral expansion of a simplicial complex as a possible analogue of spectral expansion defined for graphs. We show the condition of local spectral expansion has several nice implications. For example, for a simplicial complex with local spectral expansion we show vanishing of cohomology with real coefficients, Cheeger type inequalities and mixing type results and geometric overlap results.
A new application of the $\otimes_h$-product to $α$-labelings
The weak tensor product was introduced by Snevily as a way to construct new graphs that admit $α$-labelings from a pair of known $α$-graphs. In this article, we show that this product and the application to $α$-labelings can be generalized by considering as a second factor of the product, a family $Γ$ of bipartite $(p,q)$-graphs, $p$ and $q$ fixed. The only additional restriction that we should consider is that for every $F\in Γ$, there exists and $α$-labeling $f_F$ with $f_F(V(F))=L\cup H$, where $L,H \subset [0,q]$ are the stable sets induced by the characteristic of $f_F$ and they do not depend on $F$. We also obtain analogous applications to near $α$-labelings and bigraceful labelings.

We derive a quadratic-time algorithm for the genus distribution of any 3-regular, biconnected series-parallel graph, which we extend to any biconnected series-parallel graph of maximum degree at most 3. Since the biconnected components of every graph of treewidth 2 are series-parallel graphs, this yields, by use of bar-amalgamation, a quadratic-time algorithm for every graph of treewidth at most 2 and maximum degree at most 3.

For a graph $G$, the tree graph ${\cal T}_{G,t}$ has all tree subgraphs of $G$ with $t$ vertices as vertex set and two tree subgraphs are neighbors if they are edge-disjoint. Also, the $r^{th}$ cut number of $G$ is the minimum number of edges between parts of a partition of vertex set of $G$ into two parts such that each part has size at least $r$. We show that if $t=(1-o(1))n$ and $n$ is large enough, then for any dense graph $G$ with $n$ vertices, the chromatic number of the tree graph ${\cal T}_{G,t}$ is equal to the $(n-t+1)^{th}$ cut number of $G$. In particular, as a consequence, we prove that if $n$ is large enough and $G$ is a dense graph, then the chromatic number of the spanning tree graph ${\cal T}_{G,n}$ is equal to the size of the minimum cut of $G$. The proof method is based on alternating Turán number inspired by Tucker's lemma, an equivalent combinatorial version of the Borsuk-Ulam theorem.

Let $G$ be a finite group, let $π(G)$ be the set of prime divisors of $|G|$ and let $Γ(G)$ be the prime graph of $G$. This graph has vertex set $π(G)$, and two vertices $r$ and $s$ are adjacent if and only if $G$ contains an element of order $rs$. Many properties of these graphs have been studied in recent years, with a particular focus on the prime graphs of finite simple groups. In this note, we determine the pairs $(G,H)$, where $G$ is simple and $H$ is a proper subgroup of $G$ such that $Γ(G) = Γ(H)$.
On Relative Length of Long Paths and Cycles in Graphs
Let $G$ be a graph on $n$ vertices, $p$ the order of a longest path and $κ$ the connectivity of $G$. In 1989, Bauer, Broersma Li and Veldman proved that if $G$ is a 2-connected graph with $d(x)+d(y)+d(z)\ge n+κ$ for all triples $x,y,z$ of independent vertices, then $G$ is hamiltonian. In this paper we improve this result by reducing the lower bound $n+κ$ to $p+κ$.

We show that if $G$ is a connected graph of maximum degree at most $4$, which is not $C_{2,5}$, then the strong matching number of $G$ is at least $\frac{1}{9}n(G)$. This bound is tight and the proof implies a polynomial time algorithm to find an induced matching of this size.

Ramanujan complexes are high dimensional simplical complexes generalizing Ramanujan graphs. A result of Oh on quantitative property (T) for Lie groups over local fields is used to deduce a Mixing Lemma for such complexes. As an application we prove that non-partite Ramanujan complexes have 'high girth' and high chromatic number, generalizing a well known result about Ramanujan graphs.

We prove that for all positive integers $t$, every $n$-vertex graph with no $K_t$-subdivision has at most $2^{50t}n$ cliques. We also prove that asymptotically, such graphs contain at most $2^{(5+o(1))t}n$ cliques, where $o(1)$ tends to zero as $t$ tends to infinity. This strongly answers a question of D. Wood asking if the number of cliques in $n$-vertex graphs with no $K_t$-minor is at most $2^{ct}n$ for some constant $c$.

A multiparametric family of 2D Toda $τ$-functions of hypergeometric type is shown to provide generating functions for composite, signed Hurwitz numbers that enumerate certain classes of branched coverings of the Riemann sphere and paths in the Cayley graph of $S_n$. The coefficients $F^{c_1, ..., c_l}_{d_1, ..., d_m}(μ, ν)$ in their series expansion over products $P_μP'_ν$ of power sum symmetric functions in the two sets of Toda flow parameters and powers of the $l+m$ auxiliary parameters are shown to enumerate $|μ|=|ν|=n$ fold branched covers of the Riemann sphere with specified ramification profiles $ μ$ and $ν$ at a pair of points, and two sets of additional branch paints, satisfying certain additional conditions on their ramification profile lengths. The first group consists of $l$ branch points, with ramification profile lengths fixed to be the numbers $(n-c_1, ..., n- c_l)$; the second consists of $m$ further groups of "coloured" branch points, of variable number, for which the sums of the complements of the ramification profile lengths within the groups are fixed to equal the numbers $(d_1, ..., d_m)$. The latter are counted with sign determined by the parity of the total number of such branch points. The coefficients $F^{c_1, ..., c_l}_{d_1, ..., d_m}(μ, ν)$ are also shown to enumerate paths in the Cayley graph of the symmetric group $S_n$ generated by transpositions, starting, as in the usual double Hurwitz case, at an element in the conjugacy class of cycle type $μ$ and ending in the class of type $ν$, but with the first $l$ consecutive subsequences of $(c_1, ..., c_l)$ transpositions strictly monotonically increasing, and the subsequent subsequences of $(d_1, ..., d_m)$ transpositions weakly increasing.

Let $H$ be a graph on $n$ vertices and let the blow-up graph
$G[H]$ be defined as follows. We replace each vertex $v_i$ of $H$ by a cluster
$A_i$ and connect some pairs of vertices of $A_i$ and $A_j$ if $(v_i,v_j)$ was
an edge of the graph $H$. As usual, we define the edge density between $A_i$ and $A_j$ as $d(A_i,A_j)=\frac{e(A_i,A_j)}{|A_i||A_j|}.$ We study the following problem. Given densities $γ_{ij}$ for each edge $(i,j)\in E(H)$. Then one has to decide whether there exists a blow-up graph $G[H]$ with edge densities at least $γ_{ij}$ such that one cannot choose a vertex from each cluster so that the obtained graph is isomorphic to $H$, i.e, no $H$ appears as a transversal in $G[H]$. We call $d_{crit}(H)$ the maximal value for which there exists a blow-up graph $G[H]$ with edge densities $d(A_i,A_j)=d_{crit}(H)$ $((v_i,v_j)\in E(H))$ not containing $H$ in the above sense. Our main goal is to determine the critical edge density and to characterize the extremal graphs.

Every Hadamard matrix $H$ of order $n > 1$ induces a graph with $4n$ vertices, called the Hadamard graph $Γ(H)$ of $H$. Since $Γ(H)$ is a distance-regular graph with diameter $4$, it induces a $4$-class association scheme $(Ω, S)$ of order $4n$. In this article we deal with fission schemes of $(Ω, S)$ under certain conditions, and for such a fission scheme we estimate the number of isomorphism classes with the same intersection numbers as the fission scheme.
