We show that the formalism of hybrid polynomials, interpolating between Hermite and Laguerre polynomials, is very useful in the study of Motzkin numbers and central trinomial coefficients. These sequences are identified as special values of hybrid polynomials, a fact which we use to derive their generalized forms and new identities satisfied by them.
On a conjecture of Deutsch, Sagan, and Wilson
We prove a recent conjecture due to Deutsch, Sagan, and Wilson stating that the finite sequence obtained from the first p central trinomial coefficients modulo p by replacing nonzero terms by 1's is palindromic, for any prime number p > 3.
Addendum: the result was proved before almost in the same way by Tony D. Noe:

We consider an identity relating Fibonacci numbers to Pascal's triangle discovered by G. E. Andrews. Several authors provided proofs of this identity, all of them rather involved or else relying on sophisticated number theoretical arguments. We not only give a simple and elementary proof, but also show the identity generalizes to arrays other than Pascal's triangle. As an application we obtain identities relating trinomial coefficients and Catalan's triangle to Fibonacci numbers.
On the expansion of the power of any polynomial 1+x+x^2+x^3+x^4+etc
In this paper, Euler gives the general trionomial coefficient as a sum of the binomial coefficients, the general quadrinomial coefficient as a sum of the binomial and trinomial coefficients, the general quintonomial coefficient as a sum of the binomial and quadrinomial coefficients, and gives a general determination of the coefficients of the expansion of any polynomial (1+x+x^2+...+x^m)^n as a sum of the coefficients of lower degree polynomial coefficients.

We obtain connection coefficients between $q$-binomial and $q$-trinomial coefficients. Using these, one can transform $q$-binomial identities into a $q$-trinomial identities and back again. To demonstrate the usefulness of this procedure we rederive some known trinomial identities related to partition theory and prove many of the conjectures of Berkovich, McCoy and Pearce, which have recently arisen in their study of the $φ_{2,1}$ and $φ_{1,5}$ perturbations of minimal conformal field theory.
