Sandpile groups of random bipartite graphs and families of distributions with the same moments
Recently, there has been significant interest in applying the method of moments developed by Wood and others to study distributions of finite abelian groups that arise in number theory and combinatorics. When the moments do not grow too fast, they determine a unique distribution. We construct large families of distributions that have the same moments. These families include several distributions that arise naturally in the study of sandpile groups of families of random graphs. Wood determined the distribution of Sylow $p$-subgroups of sandpile groups of Erdős--Rényi random graphs. This was extended by Mészáros to sandpile groups of random $d$-regular graphs, who observed an interesting special case when $d$ is even and $p = 2$. We study Sylow $p$-subgroups of sandpile groups of random bipartite graphs and similarly find a special case for $p =2$. Although this distribution differs from that of Mészáros, we show that they have the same moments and fit into our broader construction. To compute the moments of the distributions we study, we apply combinatorial tools from the theory of Hall--Littlewood functions.
Affine Jacobi-Trudi formulas and $q,t$-Rogers-Ramanujan identities
We conjecture affine or Hall-Littlewood analogues of the dual Jacobi-Trudi formulas for orthogonal and symplectic Schur functions indexed by rectangular partitions of maximal height. These conjectures are then used to derive $t$-analogues of many known Rogers-Ramanujan identities for the characters of standard modules of affine Lie algebras. This includes $t$-analogues of the classical Rogers-Ramanujan identities, (some of) the Andrews-Gordon identities and the $\mathrm{C}_n^{(1)}$, $\mathrm{A}_{2n}^{(2)}$ and $\mathrm{D}_{n+2}^{(2)}$ GOW identities. We also prove an affine analogue of the dual Jacobi-Trudi formula for Schur functions indexed by rectangular partitions of arbitrary height.
$q$-rious unimodality
We generalise our still-wide-open $q$-rious positivity conjecture from 2011 to a $q$-rious unimodality conjecture.
Remarks on the conjectures of Capparelli, Meurman, Primc and Primc
In a sequence of two papers, S. Capparelli, A. Meurman, A. Primc, M. Primc (CMPP) and then M. Primc put forth three remarkable sets of conjectures, stating that the generating functions of coloured integer partition in which the parts satisfy restrictions on the multiplicities admit simple infinite product forms. While CMPP related one set of conjectures to the principally specialised characters of standard modules for the affine Lie algebra $\mathrm{C}_n^{(1)}$, finding a Lie-algebraic interpretation for the remaining two sets remained an open problem. In this paper, we use the work of Griffin, Ono and the fourth author on Rogers-Ramanujan identities for affine Lie algebras to solve this problem, relating the remaining two sets of conjectures to non-standard specialisations of standard modules for $\mathrm{A}_{2n}^{(2)}$ and $\mathrm{D}_{n+1}^{(2)}$. We also use their work to formulate conjectures for the bivariate generating function of one-parameter families of CMPP partitions in terms of Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions. We make a detailed study of several further aspects of CMPP partitions, obtaining (i) functional equations for bivariate generating functions which generalise the well-known Rogers-Selberg equations, (ii) a partial level-rank duality in the $\mathrm{A}_{2n}^{(2)}$ case, and (iii) (conjectural) identities of the Rogers-Ramanujan type for $\mathrm{D}_3^{(2)}$.
An $\mathrm{A}_2$ Bailey tree and $\mathrm{A}_2^{(1)}$ Rogers-Ramanujan-type identities
The $\mathrm{A}_2$ Bailey chain of Andrews, Schilling and the author is extended to a four-parameter $\mathrm{A}_2$ Bailey tree. As main application of this tree, we prove the Kanade-Russell conjecture for a three-parameter family of Rogers-Ramanujan-type identities related to the principal characters of the affine Lie algebra $\mathrm{A}_2^{(1)}$. Combined with known $q$-series results, this further implies an $\mathrm{A}_2^{(1)}$-analogue of the celebrated Andrews-Gordon $q$-series identities. We also use the $\mathrm{A}_2$ Bailey tree to prove a Rogers-Selberg-type identity for the characters of the principal subspaces of $\mathrm{A}_2^{(1)}$ indexed by arbitrary level-$k$ dominant integral weights $λ$. This generalises a result of Feigin, Feigin, Jimbo, Miwa and Mukhin for $λ=kΛ_0$.

Inspired by a number of recent papers by Corteel, Dousse, Foda, Uncu and Welsh on cylindric partitions and Rogers-Ramanujan-type identities, we obtain the $\mathrm{A}_2$ (or $\mathrm{A}_2^{(1)}$) analogues of the celebrated Andrews-Gordon identities. We further prove $q$-series identities that correspond to the infinite-level limit of the Andrews-Gordon identities for $\mathrm{A}_{r-1}$ (or $\mathrm{A}_{r-1}^{(1)}$) for arbitrary rank $r$. Our results for $\mathrm{A}_2$ also lead to conjectural, manifestly positive, combinatorial formulas for the $2$-variable generating function of cylindric partitions of rank $3$ and level $d$, such that $d$ is not a multiple of $3$.

We prove Macdonald-type deformations of a number of well-known classical branching rules by employing identities for elliptic hypergeometric integrals and series. We also propose some conjectural branching rules and allied conjectures exhibiting a novel type of vanishing behaviour involving partitions with empty 2-cores.

In their 2011 paper on the AGT conjecture, Alba, Fateev, Litvinov and Tarnopolsky (AFLT) obtained a closed-form evaluation for a Selberg integral over the product of two Jack polynomials, thereby unifying the well-known Kadell and Hua--Kadell integrals. In this paper we use a variety of symmetric functions and symmetric function techniques to prove generalisations of the AFLT integral. These include (i) an $\mathrm{A}_n$ analogue of the AFLT integral, containing two Jack polynomials in the integrand; (ii) a generalisation of (i) for $γ=1$ (the Schur or GUE case), containing a product of $n+1$ Schur functions; (iii) an elliptic generalisation of the AFLT integral in which the role of the Jack polynomials is played by a pair of elliptic interpolation functions; (iv) an AFLT integral for Macdonald polynomials.
$q$-rious and $q$-riouser
Dick Askey is known not just for his beautiful mathematics and his many amazing theorems, but also for posing numerous interesting and important open problems. Dick being Dick, these problems are hardly ever isolated, and often intended to demonstrate the unity of analysis, number theory and combinatorics. We take the reader down the rabbit hole created by one such problem, published as Advanced Problem 6514 by the American Mathematical Monthly in April 1986.

Using Littlewood's map, which decomposes a partition into its $r$-core and $r$-quotient, Han and Ji have shown that many well-known hook-length formulas admit modular analogues. In this paper we present a variant of the Han-Ji `multiplication theorem' based on a new analogue of Littlewood's decomposition. We discuss several applications to hook-length formulas, one of which leads us to conjecture a modular analogue of the $q,t$-Nekrasov-Okounkov formula.

We give a survey of elliptic hypergeometric functions associated with root systems, comprised of three main parts. The first two form in essence an annotated table of the main evaluation and transformation formulas for elliptic hypergeometric integeral and series on root systems. The third and final part gives an introduction to Rains' elliptic Macdonald-Koornwinder theory (in part also developed by Coskun and Gustafson).

We prove a Macdonald polynomial analogue of the celebrated Nekrasov-Okounkov hook-length formula from the theory of random partitions. As an application we obtain a proof of one of the main conjectures of Hausel and Rodriguez-Villegas from their work on mixed Hodge polynomials of the moduli space of stable Higgs bundles on Riemann surfaces.

We consider discretisations of the Macdonald--Mehta integrals from the theory of finite reflection groups. For the classical groups, $\mathrm{A}_{r-1}$, $\mathrm{B}_r$ and $\mathrm{D}_r$, we provide closed-form evaluations in those cases for which the Weyl denominators featuring in the summands have exponents $1$ and $2$. Our proofs for the exponent-$1$ cases rely on identities for classical group characters, while most of the formulas for the exponent-$2$ cases are derived from a transformation formula for elliptic hypergeometric series for the root system $\mathrm{BC}_r$. As a byproduct of our results, we obtain closed-form product formulas for the (ordinary and signed) enumeration of orthogonal and symplectic tableaux contained in a box.

We describe a method, based on the theory of Macdonald-Koornwinder polynomials, for proving bounded Littlewood identities. Our approach provides an alternative to Macdonald's partial fraction technique and results in the first examples of bounded Littlewood identities for Macdonald polynomials. These identities, which take the form of decomposition formulas for Macdonald polynomials of type $(R,S)$ in terms of ordinary Macdonald polynomials, are $q,t$-analogues of known branching formulas for characters of the symplectic, orthogonal and special orthogonal groups. In the classical limit, our method implies that MacMahon's famous ex-conjecture for the generating function of symmetric plane partitions in a box follows from the identification of $(\mathrm{GL}(n,\mathbb{R}),\mathrm{O}(n))$ as a Gelfand pair. As further applications, we obtain combinatorial formulas for characters of affine Lie algebras; Rogers-Ramanujan identities for affine Lie algebras, complementing recent results of Griffin et al.; and quadratic transformation formulas for Kaneko--Macdonald-type basic hypergeometric series.

The two Rogers-Ramanujan $q$-series \[ \sum_{n=0}^{\infty}\frac{q^{n(n+σ)}}{(1-q)\cdots (1-q^n)}, \] where $σ=0,1$, play many roles in mathematics and physics. By the Rogers-Ramanujan identities, they are essentially modular functions. Their quotient, the Rogers-Ramanujan continued fraction, has the special property that its singular values are algebraic integral units. We find a framework which extends the Rogers-Ramanujan identities to doubly-infinite families of $q$-series identities. If $a\in\{1,2\}$ and $m,n\geq 1$, then we have \[ \sum_{\substack{λλ_1\leq m}} q^{a|λ|} P_{2λ}(1,q,q^2,\dots;q^n) =\textrm{"infinite product modular function"}, \] where the $P_λ(x_1,x_2,\dots;q)$ are Hall-Littlewood polynomials. These $q$-series are specialized characters of affine Kac--Moody algebras. Generalizing the Rogers-Ramanujan continued fraction, we prove in the case of $\textrm{A}_{2n}^{(2)}$ that the relevant $q$-series quotients are integral units.
The A_{2n}^{(2)} Rogers-Ramanujan identities
The famous Rogers-Ramanujan and Andrews--Gordon identities are embedded in a doubly-infinite family of Rogers-Ramanujan-type identities labelled by positive integers m and n. For fixed m and n the product side corresponds to a specialised character of the affine Kac-Moody algebra A_{2n}^{(2)} at level m, and is expressed as a product of n^2 theta functions of modulus 2m+2n+1, or by level-rank duality, as a product of m^2 theta functions. Rogers-Ramanujan-type identities for even moduli, corresponding to the affine Lie algebras C_n^{(1)} and D_{n+1}^{(2)}, are also proven.

The Weyl-Kac character formula gives a beautiful closed-form expression for the characters of integrable highest-weight modules of Kac-Moody algebras. It is not, however, a formula that is combinatorial in nature, obscuring positivity. In this paper we show that the theory of Hall-Littlewood polynomials may be employed to prove Littlewood-type combinatorial formulas for the characters of certain highest weight modules of the affine Lie algebras C_n^{(1)}, A_{2n}^{(2)} and D_{n+1}^{(2)}. Through specialisation this yields generalisations for B_n^{(1)}, C_n^{(1)}, A_{2n-1}^{(2)}, A_{2n}^{(2)} and D_{n+1}^{(2)} of Macdonald's identities for powers of the Dedekind eta-function. These generalised eta-function identities include the Rogers-Ramanujan, Andrews-Gordon and Göllnitz-Gordon q-series as special, low-rank cases.
Constant term identities and Poincare polynomials

In 1982 Macdonald published his now famous constant term conjectures for classical root systems. This paper begins with the almost trivial observation that Macdonald's constant term identities admit an extra set of free parameters, thereby linking them to Poincare polynomials. We then exploit these extra degrees of freedom in the case of type A to give the first proof of Kadell's orthogonality conjecture---a symmetric function generalisation of the q-Dyson conjecture or Zeilberger-Bressoud theorem. Key ingredients in our proof of Kadell's orthogonality conjecture are the polynomial lemma of Karasev and Petrov, the scalar product for Demazure characters and (0,1)-matrices.
