Counting Lie ideals of niltriangular matrices
We give a formula for the number of ideals of the Lie algebra of strictly lower triangular $n\times n$ matrices over $\mathbb F_q$. A contraction bijection transforms Gagnon's sum into a weighted enumeration of nonnesting partitions, with antichains of intervals chosen independently in each block. The block weights are the inversion polynomials for $321$-avoiding permutations. Combining the known Stieltjes continued fraction for these polynomials with the enumeration of nonnesting partitions by block sizes yields a formula involving $n-1$ coefficient extractions, valid for every prime power $q$.
On Exceptional CR-Quadrics: Further Developments
Exceptional CR-quadrics are studied. An example of an exceptional (4,4)-quadric is constructed; it realizes the minimum exceptional type with respect to both n and k. Its graded Lie algebra is described. The available information on exceptional types is summarized, and the lattice of CR-types is decomposed into the disjoint union of three sets: A, the types for which exceptional quadrics are impossible; B, the types for which examples of exceptional quadrics are known; and C, the types whose status is currently unknown (neither an example nor a nonexistence proof is known). Several questions are posed.
Kashiwara--Nakashima tableaux, Gelfand--Tsetlin patterns, and quantum symmetric pairs
Kashiwara--Nakashima tableaux and Gelfand--Tsetlin patterns of orthogonal type are famous as combinatorial models of the finite-dimensional irreducible representations of the special orthogonal Lie algebras $\mathfrak{so}_N$. The former is constructed based on the representation theory of quantum groups, especially the theory of crystals, while the latter based on the branching rule for $(\mathfrak{so}_N,\mathfrak{so}_{N-1})$. In the present paper, we construct a natural bijection between them by means of the representation theory of quantum symmetric pairs corresponding to $(\mathfrak{so}_N,\mathfrak{so}_{N-1})$.
Noncommutative Cluster Varieties and Moduli Spaces of Local Systems
In this article, we construct noncommutative cluster varieties, $\mathcal{A}_{R,S}$, for each reduced root system $R$ and marked surface $S$ simultaneously generalizing the cluster varieties of Fock-Goncharov, Li, Goncharov-Shen, Berenstein-Retakh, Goncharov-Kontsevich, and our previously introduced polygonal cluster algebras. Additionally, we define a large class of algebraic groups, we call Jordan split groups. Given a reduced root system $R$ and a family of Jordan algebras, the Lie algebra for $G$ is constructed by unifying the Tits-Kantor-Koecher construction for a single Jordan algebra with the construction of a split Lie algebra.
The notion of Jordan split groups is closely related to a grading of its Lie algebra by the root system $R$. We show that these gradings are usually induced by a choice of standard parabolic subalgebra $\mathfrak{p}_Θ$ and we classify $R$-graded pairs $(G,Θ)$ via a condition depending only on the subset $Θ\subset Δ$ of the set of simple roots. Next, we define Jordan algebra points of $\mathcal{A}_{R,S}$ which parameterize $G$-local systems on $S$ with boundary decoration related to cosets $G/U_Θ$ when $G$ is Jordan split of type $R$. When $S$ is a disk, points of $\mathcal{A}_{R,S}$ parameterize configurations of decorated flags. We use this to give noncommutative cluster structures on the double $R$-Bruhat cells of $G$, generalizing the cluster algebras of Berenstein-Fomin-Zelevinsky. When each Jordan algebra is formally real, we say that $G$ has a positive structure with respect to $Θ$. This defines a positive semigroup in $G$. For real algebraic groups, the pairs $(G,Θ)$ which have positive structures are exactly those which admit a positive structure as defined by Guichard-Wienhard and we give algebraic proofs of many of the properties of positive configurations of flags and of positive representations.
Dimensions of type $A$ Hessenberg varieties over a fixed sheet
Hessenberg varieties $\mathcal{H}\mathrm{ess}(\mathsf{X},\mathbf{h})$ are subvarieties of the flag variety parameterized by a Hessenberg function $\mathbf{h}: [n] \to [n]$ and a matrix $\mathsf{X} \in \mathfrak{gl}_n(\mathbb{C})$. In recent work, Goldin and the second author showed the existence of flat degenerations of Hessenberg varieties to nilpotent Hessenberg varieties over the minimal sheet. This implies that all Hessenberg varieties over the minimal sheet have the same dimension. Our main result generalizes this dimension result to arbitrary sheets. Specifically, we prove that for a fixed Hessenberg function $\mathbf{h}:[n] \to [n]$, all Hessenberg varieties $\mathcal{H}\mathrm{ess}(\mathsf{X},\mathbf{h})$ defined in the type $A$ flag variety by linear operators $\mathsf{X}$ from the same sheet of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{gl}_n(\mathbb{C})$ have the same dimension.
Comaximal Graphs of finite-dimensional Lie algebras over finite fields: Triangle counts and structural invariants
Let $L$ be a finite-dimensional Lie algebra over a field $F$. The comaximal graph $Γ(L)$ has as vertices the proper nonzero subalgebras of $L$, two of them adjacent whenever they generate $L$; its structure was previously classified for Lie algebras of dimension at most 3 over finite fields. Here we extend that work in two directions. First, we obtain explicit formulas for the number of triangles $t(Γ(L))$ for every three-dimensional Lie algebra over $\F_q$. Second, we extend the classification to several four-dimensional families over $\mathbb{F}_q$, the abelian, Heisenberg, and filiform algebras, and $\mathfrak{gl}_2(\F_q)$. We also relate graph-theoretic properties of $Γ(L)$, such as completeness and the role of the Frattini subalgebra, to structural properties of $L$, including supersolvability. These results yield new combinatorial invariants for finite-dimensional Lie algebras over finite fields.
Weighted bond posets and a new chromatic symmetric function
The classical bond lattice of a graph was used in a formula of Whitney to compute the chromatic polynomial. In this paper, we use weighted versions of the bond lattice, to introduce and study a new polynomial and a new symmetric function invariant of a graph. Examples of the new polynomial invariant include the classical Narayana polynomials (for the path graph), the tree-Eulerian polynomials (for the complete graph), and the binomial-Eulerian polynomials (for the star graph). These examples suggest an interesting connection to $h$-polynomials of general graph-associahedra. We prove that for any chordal graph, our polynomial graph invariant is $γ$-positive.
Multiweighted bond posets yield a symmetric function graph invariant that is an analog of the chromatic polynomial. The highest degree homogeneous component of this symmetric function is of particular interest. The parking function symmetric function introduced by Haiman arises as an example, as do symmetric functions studied by the first author in connection with multibracketed Lie algebras and with colored exterior algebras. The $γ$-positivity result mentioned above is a specialization of an $e$-positivity result for the highest degree homogeneous component, which we prove for any chordal graph using the theory of lexicographic shellability. We conjecture that this symmetric function is Schur-log-concave, which specializes to Huh's log-concavity theorem for the chromatic polynomial.
The Action of the Lie Algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ on Colored Graphs and Multicolored Johnson Graphs
We consider the space of $(n-1)$-colored graphs on a fixed set of $N$ vertices. Each edge position of the complete graph $K_N$ has $n$ possible states: the absence of an edge and $n-1$ colors. This gives a natural identification of the space of such graphs with the tensor power $(\mathbb C^n)^{\otimes m}$, where $m=\binom N2$, and defines on it the diagonal action of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{gl}_n$, and, after restriction, the action of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$. For a fixed profile $α=(α_0,\dots,α_{n-1})$, we consider the graph $J(m;α)$ whose vertices are colored graphs of this profile and whose adjacency is defined by a single exchange of states in two edge positions. This graph is the transposition graph on the set of words with fixed profile, also known as the \emph{multislice}. The main result is an expression of the adjacency operator in terms of the root operators of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ and a derivation of its spectrum by means of the quadratic Casimir operator of $\mathfrak{gl}_n$ and the Schur--Weyl decomposition. It is proved that the adjacency operator belongs to the center of the algebra $\End_{S_m}(\mathcal C_α)$. The contribution of each spectral block to the multiplicity of the corresponding eigenvalue is described in terms of a Kostka number and the dimension of a Specht module. For $n=2$, one obtains the classical Johnson graph and its known spectrum. As applications, a formula for the valency is established, connectivity is proved, the Hoffman bound for independent sets is obtained, and the three-state case is considered in detail; in this case the natural symmetrized subspace realizes the module $\Sym^m(\mathbb C^3)$.
The planar Hopf algebra of noncommutative multi-indices
We construct the planar Linares--Otto--Tempelmayr Hopf algebra, thereby filling the missing planar noncommutative multi-index corner in the square relating the LOT, Butcher--Connes--Kreimer, and Munthe-Kaas--Wright Hopf algebras. Starting from the free associative algebra on a weighted alphabet $\mathbb Z_{\ge -1}\times A$, we define an insertion-type product yielding a post-Lie structure on the Lie algebra generated by the linear span $V(A)$ of weight $-1$ monomials whose proper left prefixes all have nonnegative weight, and the Guin--Oudom construction then produces the planar LOT Hopf algebra. We introduce a planar tree fertility map from decorated planar rooted trees to monomials in $V(A)$, prove that it is a linear isomorphism, and obtain a natural Hopf algebra isomorphism with the Munthe-Kaas--Wright Hopf algebra. We further derive an explicit coproduct formula in terms of left-admissible cuts, establish the extraction-contraction coproduct, and construct a word symmetrization operator compatible with the classical tree symmetrization operator.
The Graph Algebra I: Representation-Theoretic Structure
The paper studies the graph algebra whose monomial basis is naturally indexed by simple graphs on a fixed set of vertices. This algebra is at the same time the algebra of pseudo-Boolean functions on the Boolean cube and a natural object of algebraic combinatorics, related to the Boolean lattice of subsets of the edge set of the complete graph.
The main aim of the paper is to study two compatible representation-theoretic structures on this algebra: the action of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_2$, arising from the operators of adding and deleting one edge, and the action of the pair group $S_n^{(2)}$, induced by the renumbering of vertices. It is proved that the graph algebra with this $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-action is isomorphic to a tensor power of the standard two-dimensional $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-module, and on this basis its decomposition into irreducible $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-modules is obtained. Primitive spaces, that is, the kernels of the edge-deletion operator on rank components, are also described, and it is shown that they have a natural interpretation in terms of two-row Specht modules.
It is then established that the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-action commutes with the action of the pair group. It follows that the space of graph invariants also inherits the structure of an $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-module. Using Schur--Weyl duality, primitive invariants are described through the fixed parts of the restrictions of two-row Specht modules from the full symmetric group on the edge set to the pair group. As a consequence, the classical enumeration of non-isomorphic graphs by the number of edges receives a representation-theoretic refinement: the orbital components entering the Burnside--Polya formula decompose into natural primitive contributions associated with the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-structure and two-row Specht modules.
Nilpotent Lie algebras obtained by ordered sets and Ricci solitons
Nilpotent Lie groups with left-invariant metrics provide nontrivial examples of Ricci solitons. Some typical examples are given by the class of two-step nilpotent Lie algebras obtained from simple directed graphs and the class of nilpotent Lie algebras obtained from finite acyclic quivers. In this paper, we generalize the construction of nilpotent Lie algebras that are algebraic Ricci solitons obtained from finite acyclic quivers. We use some special ordered sets to construct nilpotent Lie algebras, which can also be obtained from some special quivers with relations.
A transitively and antisymmetrically ordered set (or TAOS, for short) is a set together with a binary relation that is transitive and antisymmetric. Utilizing the concept of incidence algebras of TAOSs, we construct nilpotent Lie algebras. We modify the method introduced by Mizoguchi and Tamaru \cite{MR4941781} and use it to show that the nilpotent Lie algebras with arbitrarily high degrees of nilpotency obtained from some special finite transitively and antisymmetrically ordered sets, called array TAOSs, are algebraic Ricci solitons. We also give some generalizations of this result, which yield more nilpotent Lie algebras that are algebraic Ricci solitons. Moreover, the corresponding simply-connected nilpotent Lie groups admit left-invariant Ricci solitons.
On restricted Rota-Baxter Lie algebras of arbitrary weight
Recently, Ehret and Gilliers introduced the notion of a (trivially) restricted post-Lie algebra, recovering the concepts of a restricted Lie algebra and a restricted pre-Lie algebra. In this paper, we specifically introduce restricted Rota-Baxter Lie algebras of arbitrary weight with an intrinsic graph subalgebra characterization. We show that, via the splitting property, they give rise to restricted post-Lie algebras, and furthermore possess a novel replication property. We then present two natural constructions of such restricted Rota-Baxter structures in prime characteristic: one arising from Rota-Baxter associative algebras of arbitrary weight, and the other from Rota-Baxter Lie algebras of weight $1$. The Rota-Baxter $p$-envelopes of a Rota-Baxter Lie algebra are also examined.
A new proof for the partition algorithm of the annihilator varieties of highest weight modules
Let $L(λ)$ be a simple highest weight module of a classical Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ with highest weight $λ-ρ$, where $ρ$ is half the sum of positive roots. Joseph proved that the associated variety of the annihilator ideal of $L(λ)$ (also called the annihilator variety) is the Zariski closure of a nilpotent orbit in $\mathfrak{g}^*$. Recently, Bai--Ma--Wang introduced a partition algorithm to describe this corresponding nilpotent orbit for a given highest weight module $L(λ)$. In this paper, we present a new direct proof of Bai--Ma--Wang's partition algorithm using Sommers duality.
Presentations for categories of crystals
We give generators and relations for the monoidal categories of crystals generated by the fundamental crystals of a simple complex Lie algebra. We also spell out several small-rank examples.
Explicit class of finite-dimensional polynomial algebras with Wronskians over $\mathbb{R}^d$ as $N$-ary Lie brackets: beyond $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$
Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ can be realised by vector fields on $\mathbb{R}^1\ni x$ with polynomial coefficients $1$, $-2x$, $-x^2$; their Wronskian determinants yield the Lie bracket. Likewise, the monomials $1$, $\ldots$, $x^k/k!$, $\ldots$, $x^N/N!$ span finite-dimensional strong homotopy (SH) Lie algebras with the Wronskians $\mathbf{1} \wedge \partial_x \wedge \ldots \wedge \partial_x^{N-1}$ as the $N$-ary brackets. Over dimension $d=2$ with $\mathbb{R}^2\ni(x,y)$ and for the generalised complete Wronskian $W^{d=2}_{k=1}=\mathbf{1}\wedge \partial_x \wedge \partial_y$ of differential order $k=1$ as the ternary bracket, the finite-dimensional polynomial SH-Lie algebras are spanned by $\langle 1$, $x$, $y$, $p\rangle$ with $p\in\{x^2$, $xy$, $y^2\}$. We explicitly describe all finite-dimensional polynomial SH-Lie algebras $\Bbbk_k[{\boldsymbol{x}}]\subseteq \mathcal{A} \subseteq \Bbbk[x^1,\ldots,x^d]$ (over $\Bbbk=\mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{C}$) with the complete generalised Wronskians $W^{d\geqslant 1}_{k\geqslant 1}$ of order $k$ as $N$-ary bracket: $N=\binom{d+k}{d}$. We obtain a factorisation formula for the generalised Vandermonde determinants which show up in the structure constants of the polynomial algebras $\mathcal{A}$.
Analytic Properties of Necklace Polynomials
The necklace polynomials \[ M_n(x)=\frac1n\sum_{d\mid n}μ(d)x^{n/d} \] play a central role in discrete mathematics: they count aperiodic necklaces, enumerate monic irreducible polynomials over finite fields, and give the dimensions of homogeneous components of free Lie algebras. Despite their inherently discrete origins, we show that treating $M_n(x)$ as a function of a real variable $x$ unlocks surprising structural properties that answer natural enumerative questions. In this paper, we study $M_n(x)$ as a real-variable function and establish several new analytical and monotonicity properties. We prove that the normalized functions $M_n(x)/x^n$ and their higher normalized derivatives are strictly increasing on $[1,\infty)$. As a consequence, we show that the proportion of irreducible polynomials of fixed degree over $\mathbf F_q$ increases with $q$. We also establish strict growth with respect to the degree $n$ for $x\ge2$. In addition, we determine a sharp threshold for log-convexity: the sequence $\{M_n(x)\}_{n\ge2}$ is uniformly log-convex if and only if $x>8$. These results reveal unexpected analytic structure underlying necklace polynomials and show how real-variable methods can yield new information about discrete enumeration problems. For instance, it is shown that adding one more bead to a sufficiently long necklace will approximately increase the total number of primitive, rotationally distinct configurations by a factor of the number of available colors.
Weyl Groups and the Modified Kostant Game
This paper presents a generalization of the Kostant game, a combinatorial framework originally for generating positive roots in Lie algebras. By introducing an arbitrary multi-vertex modification, we prove that the resulting game configurations naturally biject with the minimal length representatives of parabolic quotients W/W_J. This yields a dynamical and algorithmic perspective on reduced words. Finally, we apply this framework to derive a novel root counting identity, formalize the Coxeter-theoretic foundation for combinatorial approaches to the Mukai conjecture, establish the regularity of reduced word languages via finite state automata, and dynamically construct Standard Young Tableaux.
Balanced subsets in root systems
Balanced and well-balanced subsets of the set of positive roots of compact Lie algebras arise naturally in problems related to Hermitian and spin geometry. In this paper we compute the maximal and minimal size of well-balanced subsets in all simple root systems.
The comaximal graph of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra
In this paper, we introduce the comaximal graph $Γ(L)$ of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra $L$, whose vertices are the nontrivial proper Lie subalgebras of $L$ over a field $\mathbb{F}$, and two vertices $A$ and $B$ are adjacent if and only if $\langle A, B\rangle =L$. We establish general structural properties, including a characterization of isolated vertices via the Frattini subalgebra and a criterion for completeness in terms of $μ$-algebras. We classify $Γ(L)$ for all Lie algebras of dimension at most three over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$, providing an explicit description in each case. The resulting graphs exhibit a rich range of behaviors, depending on the structure of the derived algebra and the action of $\operatorname{ad}x$. For $L\cong \mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb{F}_q)$, we determine several graph invariants, including the degree sequence, clique number, chromatic number, domination number, diameter, and radius, and show that $Γ(L)$ is connected and non-planar. The graph contains a large clique formed by the nonsplit semisimple lines together with the Borel subalgebras, while the nilpotent and split semisimple lines have a more restricted adjacency structure governed by their containment in Borel subalgebras.
Chebyshev quotients, Demazure multiplicities, and Dyck-path models
We study Chebyshev quotients that arise in the representation theory of Lie algebras, specifically within the theory of Demazure flags for fusion products of $\mathfrak{sl}_2[t]$-modules. Motivated by a recent formula that expresses certain Demazure multiplicities as coefficients of such quotients, we prove a general eventual non-negativity theorem: each quotient either terminates or has strictly positive coefficients for sufficiently large degrees, which we in turn interpret in terms of matchings and bounded walks. In several natural infinite families, these are unsigned bounded Dyck path models, giving both a structural explanation for the observed positivity phenomenon and concrete combinatorial models for key families of Demazure multiplicities. The theorems in this paper were autonomously produced and formalized in Lean/Mathlib by AxiomProver from natural-language statements.
