Partial $F$-invariants and cluster categorifications
The $F$-invariant in cluster algebras is a combinatorial invariant that unifies the $E$-invariant from additive categorification and the $\mathfrak{d}$-invariant from monoidal categorification. In this paper, we study its refinement, the partial $F$-invariant, and establish its mutation formula under changes of the initial seed. As an application, we prove a conjecture of Reading, which asserts that the non-compatible cluster variables can be separated by sign-coherence of $g$-vectors upon varying the initial seed. We further show that, for cluster monomials, the partial $F$-invariants coincide with both the partial $E$-invariants for reachable decorated representations of quivers with potentials and the pole orders of normalized $R$-matrices (or partial $\mathfrak{d}$-invariants) for finite-dimensional reachable simple modules over quantum affine algebras. As consequences, we obtain a combinatorial formula for the pole orders for reachable simple modules in terms of $q$-characters; we verify the conjectural explicit formula for the pole orders between Kirillov--Reshetikhin modules.
Singularities of star cluster algebras
We introduce the class of star cluster algebras and classify their singularities. Then we focus on the combinatorial structure of the desingularization by determining the number of irreducible centers that are blown up.
Noncommutative Cluster Varieties and Moduli Spaces of Local Systems
In this article, we construct noncommutative cluster varieties, $\mathcal{A}_{R,S}$, for each reduced root system $R$ and marked surface $S$ simultaneously generalizing the cluster varieties of Fock-Goncharov, Li, Goncharov-Shen, Berenstein-Retakh, Goncharov-Kontsevich, and our previously introduced polygonal cluster algebras. Additionally, we define a large class of algebraic groups, we call Jordan split groups. Given a reduced root system $R$ and a family of Jordan algebras, the Lie algebra for $G$ is constructed by unifying the Tits-Kantor-Koecher construction for a single Jordan algebra with the construction of a split Lie algebra.
The notion of Jordan split groups is closely related to a grading of its Lie algebra by the root system $R$. We show that these gradings are usually induced by a choice of standard parabolic subalgebra $\mathfrak{p}_Θ$ and we classify $R$-graded pairs $(G,Θ)$ via a condition depending only on the subset $Θ\subset Δ$ of the set of simple roots. Next, we define Jordan algebra points of $\mathcal{A}_{R,S}$ which parameterize $G$-local systems on $S$ with boundary decoration related to cosets $G/U_Θ$ when $G$ is Jordan split of type $R$. When $S$ is a disk, points of $\mathcal{A}_{R,S}$ parameterize configurations of decorated flags. We use this to give noncommutative cluster structures on the double $R$-Bruhat cells of $G$, generalizing the cluster algebras of Berenstein-Fomin-Zelevinsky. When each Jordan algebra is formally real, we say that $G$ has a positive structure with respect to $Θ$. This defines a positive semigroup in $G$. For real algebraic groups, the pairs $(G,Θ)$ which have positive structures are exactly those which admit a positive structure as defined by Guichard-Wienhard and we give algebraic proofs of many of the properties of positive configurations of flags and of positive representations.
Point Counts of Cluster Varieties of Marked Surfaces Over Finite Fields
We establish formulae for point counts of cluster varieties of cluster algebras of marked surfaces, possibly with punctures. We then establish formulae for the number of non-deep points in these cluster varieties over $\mathbb{F}_2$, which gives us the number of algebraic tori necessary to cover the cluster manifold over $\mathbb{F}_2$. We also show that these formulae satisfy certain recurrence relations.
Locally Acyclic Surface Type and Finite Type Cluster Algebras Have No Mysterious Points
Cluster varieties contain the union of cluster tori and the points not in this union are called $\textit{deep points}$, and the locus of these points is called the $\textit{deep locus}$. In arXiv:2402.16970, a description of this locus is conjectured for locally acyclic cluster algebras, in particular, stating that this should be the stabilizer locus of the cluster automorphism group. We resolve this conjecture for the case of cluster algebras arising from surfaces, introduced in arXiv:math/0608367, and the remaining finite type cases as categorized in arXiv:math/0208229. In particular, we show locally acyclic surface type cluster varieties have no deep points not contained in the stabilizer locus, and finite type cluster algebras also have no deep points not contained in the stabilizer locus, validating the mysterious points conjecture in these cases.
Cluster Algebras for Bosonic Plethysm
Let $\Bbbk$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, let $V=\Bbbk^\ell$ and $W=\Bbbk^m$, and set \[ \mathcal R_{\ell,m}=\operatorname{Sym}(\operatorname{Sym}^2V\otimes W)^{U_V}. \] We construct an explicit skew-symmetrizable seed $Σ_{\ell,m}$ by restricting and folding the determinantal seed for the flagged $m$-arrow Kronecker quiver. For every $\ell,m\ge2$, we have \[ \mathcal R_{\ell,m}=\mathcal U(Σ_{\ell,m}), \] with polynomial frozen coefficients, and $Σ_{\ell,m}$ admits a reddening sequence. The theta basis extends across the frozen boundary exactly for parameters in a rational polyhedral cone $\mathscr C_{\ell,m}$. Its weight fibers count the multigraded highest-weight multiplicities of $\mathcal R_{\ell,m}$, and the Jacobi--Trudi identity expresses symmetric-square plethysm coefficients as finite alternating sums of these counts. Optimized frozens give an explicit finite system of inequalities for $\mathscr C_{\ell,m}$.
Neighboring seeds in affine type: Universal coefficients and finite mutation-type
Neighboring seeds in a cluster algebra of affine type are seeds that are as close as possible to the boundary of the g-vector fan. This short note highlights the characterization of neighboring seeds given in a recent paper of Reading, Rupel, and Stella and applies that characterization in two ways. We prove a conjecture on the construction of universal geometric cluster algebras of affine type. We also characterize extended exchange matrices of affine type that are mutation-finite.
A polyhedral formula for $n\times2\times2$ Kronecker coefficients via cluster algebras
We study the triple-invariant algebra \[ \Bbbk[\Bbbk^3\otimes\Bbbk^2\otimes\Bbbk^2]^{U_3\times U_2\times U_2}. \] A quotient slice and the induced logarithmic top form determine a signed Markov chart, realized as the fiber $ζ=-1$ of an ordinary cluster family. We prove \[ \mathscr U_{\mathrm{gen}}=\mathcal M_u[u_Δ], \] where $\mathcal M_u$ is a specialized middle cluster algebra and $u_Δ$ is the discriminant of weight $(220;22;22)$. Its theta cone has a sixteen-element Hilbert basis. Pairing its positive- and negative-degree generators reduces each triple-weight space to a single discriminant level determined by the weight. Counting the resulting two-dimensional slice gives an explicit nonnegative finite-sum formula. Determinant reduction extends the formula to all $n\times2\times2$ Kronecker coefficients.
Coordinate projections of $c$-vectors of cluster algebras from the annulus
For an acyclic cluster algebra, the $c$-vectors are, up to sign, the real
Schur roots of the associated root system. We study the two-coordinate
projections $(c_v, c_w)$ of this configuration: when the difference
$c_v - c_w$ is bounded the image lies in a band of lattice lines, and we ask
when the projection fills that band. A band-existence dichotomy, valid in
every acyclic type, shows the difference is bounded if and only if the null
root satisfies $δ_v = δ_w$. For affine type $\widetilde{A}_n$ (the
annulus), in the source-sink orientation, we resolve the filling question
completely: every coordinate projection fills its band except along the
source-sink diagonal, which carries only the finite regular part. The
obstruction is the Auslander--Reiten defect, which a projection sees on its
diagonal exactly when the defect is a coordinate difference; the only such
pair is the source-sink pair of $\widetilde{A}_n$, so the pattern depends on
the chosen seed. More generally, every banded pair of null-root coefficient
one fills, except these diagonals. Off the diagonal a banded pair in
$\widetilde{E}_7$ fails to fill, so non-filling is not confined to type
$\widetilde{A}_n$; a computation classifies the pairs of coefficient at least
two over a range of affine types, where this $\widetilde{E}_7$ pair is the
only further failure, and the general classification remains open.
On Two Approaches to Cluster Structures on Partial Flag Varieties
Continuing our previous work, this paper closely studies the relationship between the cluster algebra structures on the coordinate ring of Schubert cells and those on the coordinate ring of partial flag varieties. We give a finite-type classification for these cluster structures and point out several results that were left open in our previous work.
A Comparison of cluster algebra structures arising from $i$-boxes and Demazure weaves
We compare two cluster algebras related to a positive element $\mathtt{b}$ in the braid group of finite $ADE$ type. One is the localized bosonic extension ${\widetilde{\mathbb{A}}}_\mathbb{C}(\mathtt{b})$ equipped with an initial seed arising from an admissible chain $\mathfrak{C}$ of $i$-boxes, which is deeply connected to monoidal categorification. The other is the coordinate ring $\mathbb{C}[X({\underlineΔ} {\boldsymbol{i}})]$ of the braid variety $X({\underlineΔ} {\boldsymbol{i}})$ equipped with an initial seed arising from a Demazure weave $\mathfrak{W}$, where ${\boldsymbol{i}}$ and ${\underlineΔ}$ are expression sequences of $\mathtt{b}$ and the half twist $Δ$, respectively. We explicitly construct a Demazure weave $\mathfrak{W}_{\underlineΔ}(\mathfrak{C})$ for each admissible chain $\mathfrak{C}$ associated with ${\boldsymbol{i}}$, and prove that there exists an algebra isomorphism $\varphi_{\boldsymbol{i}}\colon {\widetilde{\mathbb{A}}}_\mathbb{C}(\mathtt{b})\to\mathfrak{C}[X({\underlineΔ} {\boldsymbol{i}})]$ which is compatible with the two seeds arising from $\mathfrak{C}$ and $\mathfrak{W}_{\underlineΔ}(\mathfrak{C})$. Moreover, the isomorphism $\varphi_{\boldsymbol{i}}$ sends the PBW vectors ${\overline{\mathsf{p}}}_{\boldsymbol{i},k} \in {\widetilde{\mathbb{A}}}_\mathbb{C}(\mathtt{b})$ to the coordinates $z_k \in \mathfrak{C}[X({\underlineΔ} {\boldsymbol{i}})]$ indexed by the letters of ${\boldsymbol{i}}$. As applications, we investigate a connection between Demazure weaves and signed words via the $i$-boxes and interpret the isomorphism $\varphi_{\boldsymbol{i}}$ from the viewpoint of monoidal categorification using Hernandez--Leclerc categories.
Band Bases as Common Triangular Bases in Cluster Algebras from Surfaces
We consider the skein algebra of an unpunctured marked surface. Thurston previously constructed its band basis topologically. We show that this band basis coincides with the common triangular basis, which is a Kazhdan-Lusztig type basis for quantum cluster algebras analogous to the dual canonical basis of quantum groups. Our result confirms a conjecture of Thurston. It also provides new cases for the existence of the common triangular basis. In addition, we discover a phenomenon where certain unknots are arranged in configurations resembling beads on a necklace.
A higher homological approach to the $q$-characters of representations of quantum affine algebras
For any acyclic quiver $Q$ without multiple edges, we construct a monoidal category $\mathcal{R}_Q$ whose indecomposable objects are tensor products (over the base field) of finite-dimensional modules over the path algebra of $Q$. We show the existence and uniqueness up to homotopy of certain distinguished chain complexes satisfying good homological properties (higher almost split complexes) preserved under tensoring by objects in $\mathcal{R}_Q$. As a crucial ingredient for this construction, we establish the existence of a family of complete exceptional sequences in $\mathrm{mod}\,\mathbf{k}Q$ satisfying many good properties, which we believe might be of independent interest. We then prove that when $Q$ admits a height function, the Euler characteristics of (the images under certain additive functor of) these complexes coincide with the truncated $q$-characters of the standard modules in Hernandez-Leclerc's category $\mathcal{C}^{(1)}$. Applying our results to the case where the underlying graph of $Q$ is a Dynkin diagram of type $A_n, n \geq 1$, we also interpret the cluster characters of all cluster variables in the finite type cluster algebra $\mathcal{A}_Q$ as Euler characteristics of certain chain complexes in $\mathcal{R}_Q$.
Eventual sign coherence
The sign coherence of $c$-vectors is one of the fundamental theorems of cluster algebras with principal coefficients. In 2019, Gekhtman and Nakanishi posed the asymptotic sign coherence conjecture for arbitrary cluster algebras of geometric type, which says sign coherence should eventually hold in any sufficiently generic infinite mutation sequence. We prove that their conjecture holds almost always for skew-symmetric cluster algebras of arbitrary rank. That is, we prove that with probability $1$, the sequence of $c$-vectors obtained by random mutation of an arbitrary quiver eventually becomes sign-coherent. Our results also establish the conjecture in full generality for many families of quivers by studying a new class of brog quivers.
Fractal phenomenon in $c$- and $g$-vectors of the Markov quiver
We study the $C$- and $G$-patterns associated with rank $3$ skew-symmetrizable matrices of $B$-invariant type, including the Markov quiver. Motivated by the self-contained simple mutations in Markov-type cluster algebras, we prove that large classes of subpatterns of modified $c$- and $g$-vectors are linearly isomorphic, yielding a fractal structure of the corresponding $G$-fan. We further derive explicit recursive formulas for all modified $c$- and $g$-vectors in terms of integer pairs satisfying a recursion analogous to the Calkin-Wilf tree, which leads to a parameterization by coprime integers. As an application, we describe all connected components of the complement of the support of the $G$-fan, and show that they are generated recursively by three kinds of linear maps.
Flip of lattices
In this paper, we introduce a new combinatorial operation, called a flip, on arbitrary partially ordered sets. We define a mutation to be a flip that maps a lattice to a lattice. We study properties of flips, and give a necessary and sufficient condition for a flip to be a mutation. We introduce locally mutable lattices and mutable lattices in terms of flips, and prove that mutable lattices are semidistributive. We show that type-A and type-B Cambrian lattices are locally mutable, and those associated with the finite-type Coxeter quivers with different orientations are related also by the sequence of mutations. Finally we introduce a new class of lattices, called Ordovician lattices, as the lattices obtained from Cambrian lattices by iterated mutations. We provide conjectures on the structure of Ordovician lattices and on the compatibility between our mutation and the mutation in the theory of cluster algebras.
Cluster Expansions from Punctured Orbifolds
We provide multiple combinatorial expansion formulas - in terms of snake graphs, labelled posets, matrices, and $T$-walks - for elements in generalized cluster algebras associated to arcs on punctured orbifolds and illustrate their equivalence. This work generalizes and unifies existing work on combinatorial expansion formulas from surfaces and unpunctured orbifolds.
On the growth of friezes via theta functions
We prove that the infinite friezes arising from the tubes of a given cluster algebra of acyclic affine type all have the same growth coefficients. Our proof uses identities satisfied by theta functions. This generalizes previous results in affine types~$ADE$ by several groups of authors.
Beyond the Laurent phenomenon
In a cluster algebra, a subset of initial cluster variables can be specialised in such a way that all elements of the resulting algebra become polynomial in the remaining variables.
Theta functions in acyclic affine type
We characterize the theta functions for vectors in the imaginary wall in a cluster algebra of acyclic affine type and compute some of their structure constants. One of the structure constant computations can be interpreted as new "imaginary" exchange relations among cluster variables. We show that theta functions in the imaginary wall span a subalgebra of the cluster algebra that we call the imaginary subalgebra, which decomposes as a tensor product of tube subalgebras that are generalized cluster algebras of type C. Our proofs exploit mutation-symmetries of the exchange matrix, an earlier characterization of dominance regions in affine type, and combinatorial models for cluster scattering diagrams of acyclic affine type.
