Cluster topography
Using the LP algebraic toolkit, Conway's original topograph is rethought of as a cluster construction, paving the way for a wider topography based on mutation-type local rules. As a remarkable application of such cluster-driven upgrade, both the process of analytic continuation for Painlevé VI and the reduction algorithm for quadratic forms are endowed with the Laurent phenomenon. En passant, the rattlesnake is defined so to complete the bijection between snake graphs and rationals to the whole of $\mathbb{Q}$.
Beyond the Laurent phenomenon
In a cluster algebra, a subset of initial cluster variables can be specialised in such a way that all elements of the resulting algebra become polynomial in the remaining variables.
Cluster tori over $\mathbb{F}_2$, hexagonal moves on triangulations, and minimal coverings of cluster manifolds
We study cluster algebras over $\mathbb{F}_2$. By the Laurent phenomenon there is a map from the set of seeds of the cluster algebra to the corresponding cluster variety. We show that in type $A$, fibers of this map can be described in terms of certain edges of the universal polytope of triangulations of a polygon. Moreover, we show that there is a section of this map giving seeds whose corresponding cluster tori cover the cluster manifold over any field $\mathbb{F}$, but there are also sections giving seeds whose cluster tori do not cover the cluster manifold over any field $\mathbb{F} \not\cong \mathbb{F}_2$.
Noncommutative marked surfaces II: tagged triangulations, clusters, and their symmetries
The aim of the paper is to define noncommutative cluster structure on several algebras ${\mathcal A}$ related to marked surfaces possibly with orbifold points of various orders, which includes noncommutative clusters, i.e., embeddings of a given group $G$ into the multiplicative monoid ${\mathcal A}^\times$ and an action of a certain braid-like group $Br_{\mathcal A}$ by automorphisms of each cluster group in a compatible way. For punctured surfaces we construct new symmetries, noncommutative tagged clusters and establish a noncommutative Laurent Phenomenon.
Positivity of generalized cluster scattering diagrams
We introduce a new class of combinatorial objects, named tight gradings, which are certain nonnegative integer-valued functions on maximal Dyck paths. Using tight gradings, we derive a manifestly positive formula for any wall-function in a rank-2 generalized cluster scattering diagram. We further prove that any consistent rank-2 scattering diagram is positive with respect to the coefficients of initial wall-functions. Moreover, our formula yields explicit expressions for relative Gromov-Witten invariants on weighted projective planes and the Euler characteristics of moduli spaces of framed stable representations on complete bipartite quivers. Finally, by leveraging the rank-2 positivity, we show that any higher-rank generalized cluster scattering diagram has positive wall-functions, which leads to a proof of the positivity of the Laurent phenomenon and the strong positivity of Chekhov-Shapiro's generalized cluster algebras.
Spherical friezes
A fundamental problem in spherical distance geometry aims to recover an $n$-tuple of points on a 2-sphere in $\mathbb{R}^3$, viewed up to oriented isometry, from $O(n)$ input measurements. We solve this problem using algorithms that employ only the four arithmetic operations. Each algorithm recursively produces output data that we arrange into a new type of frieze pattern. These frieze patterns exhibit glide symmetry and a version of the Laurent phenomenon.
Non-commutative friezes and their determinants, the non-commutative Laurent phenomenon for weak friezes, and frieze gluing
This paper studies a non-commutative generalisation of Coxeter friezes due to Berenstein and Retakh. It generalises several earlier results to this situation: A formula for frieze determinants, a $T$-path formula expressing the Laurent phenomenon, and results on gluing friezes together. One of our tools is a non-commutative version of the weak friezes introduced by Canakci and Jorgensen.

Laurent phenomenon algebras, first introduced by Lam and Pylyavskyy, are a generalization of cluster algebras that still possess many salient features of cluster algebras. Graph Laurent phenomenon algebras, defined by Lam and Pylyavskyy, are a subclass of Laurent phenomenon algebras whose structure is given by the data of a directed graph. In this paper, we prove that the cluster monomials of a graph Laurent phenomenon algebra form a linear basis, as conjectured by Lam and Pylyavskyy and analogous to a result for cluster algebras by Caldero and Keller. We also prove that, if the graph is a bidirected tree, the coefficients of the expansion of any monomial in terms of cluster monomials are nonnegative.

Recently Ovsienko and Tabachnikov considered extensions of Somos and Gale-Robinson sequences, defined over the algebra of dual numbers. Ovsienko used the same idea to construct so-called shadow sequences derived from other nonlinear recurrence relations exhibiting the Laurent phenomenon, with the original motivation being the hope that these examples should lead to an appropriate notion of a cluster superalgebra, incorporating Grassmann variables. Here we present various explicit expressions for the shadow of Somos-4 sequences, and describe the solution of a general Somos-4 recurrence defined over the $\mathbb{C}$-algebra of dual numbers from several different viewpoints: analytic formulae in terms of elliptic functions, linear difference equations, and Hankel determinants.

LP algebras, introduced by Lam and Pylyavskyy, are a generalization of cluster algebras. These algebras are known to have the Laurent phenomenon, but positivity remains conjectural. Graph LP algebras are finite LP algebras encoded by a graph. For the graph LP algebra defined by a tree, we define a family of clusters called rooted clusters. We prove positivity for these clusters by giving explicit formulas for each cluster variable. We also give a combinatorial interpretation for these expansions using a generalization of $T$-paths.

We study Newton polytopes for cluster variables in cluster algebras $\mathcal{A}(Σ)$ of types A and D. A famous property of cluster algebras is the Laurent phenomenon: each cluster variable can be written as a Laurent polynomial in the cluster variables of the initial seed $Σ$. The cluster variable Newton polytopes are the Newton polytopes of these Laurent polynomials. We show that if $Σ$ has principal coefficients or boundary frozen variables, then all cluster variable Newton polytopes are saturated. We also characterize when these Newton polytopes are \emph{empty}; that is, when they have no non-vertex lattice points.
Linear relations for Laurent polynomials and lattice equations

A recurrence relation is said to have the Laurent property if all of its iterates are Laurent polynomials in the initial values with integer coefficients. We consider a family of nonlinear recurrences with the Laurent property, which were derived by Alman et al. via a construction of periodic seeds in Laurent phenomenon algebras, and generalize the Heideman-Hogan recurrences. Each member of the family is shown to be linearizable, in the sense that the iterates satisfy linear recurrence relations with constant coefficients. The latter are obtained from linear relations with periodic coefficients, which were found recently by Kamiya et al. from travelling wave reductions of a linearizable lattice equation on a 6-point stencil. We introduce another linearizable lattice equation on the same stencil, and present the corresponding linearization for its travelling wave reductions. Finally, for both of the 6-point lattice equations considered, we use the formalism of van der Kamp to construct a broad class of initial value problems with the Laurent property.

Motivated by computational geometry of point configurations on the Euclidean plane, and by the theory of cluster algebras of type A, we introduce and study Heronian friezes, the Euclidean analogues of Coxeter's frieze patterns. We prove that a generic Heronian frieze possesses the glide symmetry (hence is periodic), and establish the appropriate version of the Laurent phenomenon.
For a closely related family of Cayley-Menger friezes, we identify an algebraic condition of coherence, which all friezes of geometric origin satisfy. This yields an unambiguous propagation rule for coherent Cayley-Menger friezes, as well as the corresponding periodicity results.

It was shown by Fock, Goncharov and Fomin, Shapiro, Thurston that some cluster algebras arise from triangulated orientable suraces. Subsequently Dupont and Palesi generalised this construction to include unpunctured non-orientable surfaces, giving birth to quasi-cluster algebras. Previously we linked this framework to Lam and Pylyavskyy's Laurent phenomenon algebras, showing that unpunctured surfaces admit an LP structure. In this paper we extend quasi-cluster algebras to include punctured surfaces. Moreover, by adding laminations to the surface we demonstrate that all punctured and unpunctured surfaces admit LP structures.

Birational toggling on Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns appeared first in the study of geometric crystals and geometric Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence. Based on these birational toggle relations, Einstein and Propp introduced a discrete dynamical system called birational rowmotion associated with a partially ordered set. We generalize birational rowmotion to the class of arbitrary strongly connected directed graphs, calling the resulting discrete dynamical system the $R$-system. We study its integrability from the points of view of singularity confinement and algebraic entropy. We show that in many cases, singularity confinement in an $R$-system reduces to the Laurent phenomenon either in a cluster algebra, or in a Laurent phenomenon algebra, or beyond both of those generalities, giving rise to many new sequences with the Laurent property possessing rich groups of symmetries. Some special cases of $R$-systems reduce to Somos and Gale-Robinson sequences.

We study polynomial generalizations of the Kontsevich automorphisms acting on the skew-field of formal rational expressions in two non-commuting variables. Our main result is the Laurentness and pseudo-positivity of iterations of these automorphisms. The resulting expressions are described combinatorially using a generalization of the combinatorics of compatible pairs in a maximal Dyck path developed by Lee, Li, and Zelevinsky. By specializing to quasi-commuting variables we obtain pseudo-positive expressions for rank 2 quantum generalized cluster variables. In the binomial case when all internal exchange coefficients are zero, this quantum specialization provides a positive combinatorial construction of counting polynomials for Grassmannians of submodules in exceptional representations of valued quivers with two vertices.

It was shown by Fomin, Shapiro and Thurston that some cluster algebras arise from orientable surfaces. Subsequently, Dupont and Palesi extended this construction to non-orientable surfaces. We link this framework to Lam and Pylyavskyy's Laurent phenomenon algebras, showing that both orientable and non-orientable unpunctured marked surfaces have an associated LP-algebra.

In this paper we find the exchange graph of the rank n binomial Laurent phenomenon algebra associated to the complete graph on n vertices. More specifically, we prove that this exchange graph is isomorphic to that of the rank n linear Laurent phenomenon algebra associated to the complete graph on n vertices discussed in arxiv.org/abs/1206.2612.
A step towards cluster superalgebras
We introduce a class of commutative superalgebras generalizing cluster algebras. A cluster superalgebra is defined by a hypergraph called an "extended quiver", and transformations called mutations. We prove the super analog of the "Laurent phenomenon", i.e., that all elements of a given cluster superalgebra are Laurent polynomials in the initial variables, and find an invariant presymplectic form. Examples of cluster superalgebras are provided by superanalogs of Coxeter's frieze patterns. We apply the Laurent phenomenon to construct a new integer sequence extending the Somos-$4$ sequence.

Many discrete integrable systems exhibit the Laurent phenomenon. In this paper, we investigate three integrable systems: the Somos-4 recurrence, the Somos-5 recurrence and a system related to so-called $A_1$ $Q$-system, whose general solutions are derived in terms of Hankel determinant. As a result, we directly confirm that they satisfy the Laurent property. Additionally, it is shown that the Somos-5 recurrence can be viewed as a specified Bäcklund transformation of the Somos-4 recurrence. The related topics about Somos polynomials are also studied.
