A probabilistic bijection between twenty-vertex configurations with a free west boundary and Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns avoiding three equal entries in a row
We study a coincidence between two enumerations governed by the same product formula, reminiscent of the Robbins numbers: the unweighted enumeration of twenty-vertex configurations on quadrangular domains with fixed west boundary, and the weighted enumeration of Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns avoiding three equal entries in a row. This coincidence naturally raises the question of whether there is a combinatorial explanation relating these two enumerations. In this paper, we provide such an explanation by constructing a probabilistic bijection between twenty-vertex configurations on quadrangular domains and Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns avoiding three equal entries in a row. Under this probabilistic bijection, the west boundary of a twenty-vertex configuration corresponds to the bottom row of Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns; in particular, the fixed boundary case corresponds to Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns with bottom row $(1, 2, \ldots, n)$. Combining this correspondence with an enumeration formula of Fischer and Schreier-Aigner for Gelfand-Tsetlin pattern avoiding three equal entries in a row with bounded entries, we obtain an enumeration formula for twenty-vertex configurations with a free west boundary.
Young tableau descriptions for the polyhedral realizations of crystal bases in type $A_n$
By utilizing the combinatorial properties of various tableau models, we establish an explicit correspondence between the polyhedral realizations of the crystal bases $\mathcal B(λ)$ (resp. $\mathcal B(\infty)$) of type $A_n$ and the reverse semi-standard Young tableaux (resp. reverse marginally large tableaux), thereby providing a combinatorial description of the corresponding polyhedral realizations. Furthermore, a crystal structure on the set of Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns is obtained via the correspondence between the polyhedral realization of $\mathcal{B}(λ)$ and the reverse tableaux. As applications of our framework, we present concrete combinatorial realizations of the crystal embedding of $\mathcal B(λ)$ into $\mathcal B(\infty)$ and the set of Lusztig data.
Bicolored bosonic solvable lattice models
Recent papers in solvable lattice models emphasize models where states can be visualized as colored paths through the lattice. We define a bosonic model in which there are two types of colors, one whose paths move down and to the right, the other whose paths move down and to the left. Depending on their boundary data, systems may have no states, exactly one state, or many states. We prove that these cases depend on a criterion involving two permutations extracted from the boundary data and their Bruhat order. This classification also helps us to characterize the partition functions of our systems, a question at the heart of the study of solvable lattice models. Using the solvability of the model, we derive a four-term recurrence relation on the partition function. Together with the classification of systems by number of states which serves as a base case for the recursion, the recursion completely characterizes the partition function of systems. We also show a color merging property relating the bicolored bosonic models to colored and uncolored bosonic models, and correspondence with Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns.
Connections Between Frames with Rational Eigensteps and Semistandard Young Tableaux
In this paper, we explore a correspondence between frames with rational eigensteps and semistandard Young tableaux (SSYT), via the relation assigning a Gelfand-Tsetlin pattern to a frame via the frame's eigensteps. We will identify how certain key structures in SSYTs correlate with particular frame properties. For example, the weight of an SSYT yields the sequence of norms of any compatible frame. Additionally, this correspondence leads to a novel way to construct the eigensteps of a frame coming solely from tableaux. This is an alternative to the Top Kill algorithm which may be viewed as a combinatorial reinterpretation of the algorithm. We further employ other combinatorial techniques such as the boxcomp method to generate a ``complement" SSYT. On the frame side, this corresponds to a tight frame's Naimark complement as well as to a generalization of the Naimark complement for non-tight frames. Further research points to an analysis of equiangular tight frames and their corresponding tableaux, as well as using more combinatorial operations to further analyze frames.
The Schützenberger involution and colored lattice models
Colored lattice models can be used to describe many different types of special functions of interest in both algebraic combinatorics and representation theory, for example Schur polynomials, nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials, and characters and Whittaker functions for representations of p-adic groups. A notable example is the metaplectic ice model of which there are actually two different variants: a Gamma and a Delta variant. These variants differ in key aspects but surprisingly produce equal partition functions, which are weighted sums over admissible configurations, and this equality is called the Gamma-Delta duality. The duality was used to prove the analytic continuation of certain multiple Dirichlet series and is highly non-trivial, especially since the number of configurations on each side of the equality can differ.
In this paper we construct a new family of solvable, colored lattice models and prove that they are dual to existing lattice models in the literature, including the above metaplectic case and the lattice model for (non-metaplectic) Iwahori Whittaker functions together with its crystal limit for Demazure atoms for Cartan type A. The equality of partition functions is shown using Yang-Baxter equations involving R-matrices mixing lattice model rows of types Gamma and Delta.
For the crystal Demazure lattice model we show that the duality refines to a weight-respecting bijection of states given by the Schützenberger involution on the associated Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns or semistandard Young tableaux. We also show how the individual steps exchanging two rows in the proof of the duality for the partition functions refines to Berenstein-Kirillov, or Bender-Knuth involutions.
On the action of the cactus group on the set of Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns for orthogonal Lie algebras
The purpose of this work is to define a natural action of the cactus group on the set of Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns for orthogonal Lie algebras. These Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns are meant to index the Gelfand-Tsetlin basis in the irreducible representations of the orthogonal Lie algebra $\mathfrak{o}_N$ with respect to the chain of nested orthogonal Lie algebras $\mathfrak{o}_N \supset \mathfrak{o}_{N-1} \supset \ldots \supset \mathfrak{o}_3$. Using the Howe duality between $O_N$ and $\mathfrak{o}_{2n}$, we realize some representations of $\mathfrak{o}_N$ as multiplicity spaces inside the tensor power of the spinor representation $(Λ\mathbb{C}^{n})^{\otimes N}$. There is a natural choice of the basis inside the multiplicity space, which agrees with the decomposition of $(Λ\mathbb{C}^{n})^{\otimes N}$ into simple $\mathfrak{o}_{2n}$-modules. We call such basis principal. The action of the cactus group $C_N$ by the crystal commutors on the crystal arising from $(Λ\mathbb{C}^{n})^{\otimes N}$ induces the action of $C_N$ on the set indexing the principal basis inside the multiplicity space. We call this set regular cell tables. Regular cell tables are the analog of semi-standard Young tables. There is a natural bijection between a specific subset of semi-standard Young tables and regular cell tables. In this paper, we establish a natural bijection between the principal basis and the Gelfand-Tsetlin basis and, therefore, define an action of the cactus group on the set Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns.
New bijective proofs pertaining to alternating sign matrices
The alternating sign matrices-descending plane partitions (ASM-DPP) bijection problem is one of the most intriguing open problems in bijective combinatorics, which is also relevant to integrable combinatorics. The notion of a signed set and a signed bijection is used in [Fischer, I. \& Konvalinka, M., Electron. J. Comb., 27 (2020) 3-35.] to construct a bijection between $\text{ASM}_n \times \text{DPP}_{n-1}$ and $\text{DPP}_n \times \text{ASM}_{n-1}$. Here, we shall construct a more natural alternative to a signed bijection between alternating sign matrices and shifted Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns which is presented in that paper, based on the notion of compatibility which we introduce to measure the naturalness of a signed bijection. In addition, we give a bijective proof for the refined enumeration of an extension of alternating sign matrices with $n+3$ statistics, first proved in [Fischer, I. \& Schreier-Aigner, F., Advances in Mathematics 413 (2023) 108831.].
(-1)-Enumerations of arrowed Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns
Arrowed Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns have recently been introduced to study alternating sign matrices. In this paper, we show that a $(-1)$-enumeration of arrowed Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns can be expressed by a simple product formula. The numbers are a one-parameter generalization of the numbers $2^{n(n-1)/2} \prod_{j=0}^{n-1} \frac{(4j+2)!}{(n+2j+1)!}$ that appear in recent work of Di Francesco. A second result concerns the (-1)-enumeration of arrowed Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns when excluding double-arrows as decoration in which case we also obtain a simple product formula. We are also able to provide signless interpretations of our results. The proofs of the enumeration formulas are based on a recent Littlewood-type identity, which allows us to reduce the problem to the evaluations of two determinants. The evaluations are accomplished by means of the LU-decompositions of the underlying matrices, and an extension of Sister Celine's algorithm as well as creative telescoping to evaluate certain triple sums. In particular, we use implementations of such algorithms by Koutschan, and by Wegschaider and Riese.

Using the vertex operator representations for symplectic and orthogonal Schur functions, we define two families of symmetric functions and show thatthey are the skew symplectic and skew orthogonal Schur polynomials defined implicitly by Koike and Terada and satisfy the general branching rules. Furthermore, we derive the Jacobi-Trudi identities and Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns for these symmetric functions. Additionally, the vertex operator method yields their Cauchy-type identities. This demonstrates that vertex operator representations serve not only as a tool for studying symmetric functions but also offers unified realizations for skew Schur functions of types A, C, and D.

We introduce dynamical versions of loop (or Dyson-Schwinger) equations for large families of two--dimensional interacting particle systems, including Dyson Brownian motion, Nonintersecting Bernoulli/Poisson random walks, $β$--corners processes, uniform and Jack-deformed measures on Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns, Macdonald processes, and $(q,κ)$-distributions on lozenge tilings. Under technical assumptions, we show that the dynamical loop equations lead to Gaussian field type fluctuations.
As an application, we compute the limit shape for $(q,κ)$--distributions on lozenge tilings and prove that their height fluctuations converge to the Gaussian Free Field in an appropriate complex structure.
Combinatorics of Iwahori Whittaker Functions
We give a combinatorial evaluation of Iwahori Whittaker functions for unramified genuine principal series representations on metaplectic covers of the general linear group over a non-archimedean local field. To describe the combinatorics, we introduce new combinatorial data that we call colored data: colored Lusztig data, colored Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns, and colored lattice models. We show that all three are equivalent. To achieve the result, we give an explicit Iwahori decomposition for the maximal unipotent subgroup of a split reductive group which gives the parametrization of the generalized Mirković-Vilonen cycles in the affine flag varieties and is of interest in itself.
Our result is based and naturally extends Peter McNamara's evaluation of the metaplectic spherical Whittaker function in terms of Lusztig data.

We define P-strict labelings for a finite poset P as a generalization of semistandard Young tableaux and show that promotion on these objects is in equivariant bijection with a toggle action on B-bounded Q-partitions of an associated poset Q. In many nice cases, this toggle action is conjugate to rowmotion. We apply this result to flagged tableaux, Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns, and symplectic tableaux, obtaining new cyclic sieving and homomesy conjectures. We also show P-strict promotion can be equivalently defined using Bender-Knuth and jeu de taquin perspectives.

We give a crystal structure on the set of Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns which parametrize bases for finite-dimensional irreducible representations of the general linear Lie algebra. The crystal data are given in closed form, expressed using tropical polynomial functions of the entries of the patterns. We prove that with this crystal structure, the natural bijection between Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns and semistandard Young tableaux is a crystal isomorphism.
Skew Howe duality for crystals and the cactus group
The crystals for a finite-dimensional complex reductive Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ encode the structure of its representations, yet can also reveal surprising new structure of their own. We study the cactus group $C_{\mathfrak{g}}$, constructed using the Dynkin diagram of $\mathfrak{g}$, and its combinatorial action on any $\mathfrak{g}$-crystal via Schützenberger involutions. We compare this action with that of the Berenstein-Kirillov group on Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns. Henriques and Kamnitzer define an action of $C_n=C_{\mathfrak{gl}_n}$ on $n$-tensor products of $\mathfrak{g}$-crystals, for any $\mathfrak{g}$ as above. We discuss the crystal corresponding to the $\mathfrak{gl}_n \times \mathfrak{gl}_m$-representation $Λ^N(\mathbb{C}^n \otimes \mathbb{C}^m),$ derive skew Howe duality on the crystal level and show that the two types of cactus group actions agree in this setting. A future application of this result is discussed in studying two families of maximal commutative subalgebras of the universal enveloping algebra, the shift of argument and Gaudin algebras, where an algebraically constructed monodromy action matches that of the cactus group.

We establish formulae for the moments of the moments of the characteristic polynomials of random orthogonal and symplectic matrices in terms of certain lattice point count problems. This allows us to establish asymptotic formulae when the matrix-size tends to infinity in terms of the volumes of certain regions involving continuous Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns with constraints. The results we find differ from those in the unitary case considered previously

In their study of the equivariant K-theory of the generalized flag varieties $G/P$, where $G$ is a complex semisimple Lie group, and $P$ is a parabolic subgroup of $G$, Lenart and Postnikov introduced a combinatorial tool, called the alcove paths model. It provides a model for the highest weight crystals with dominant integral highest weights, generalizing the model by semistandard Young tableaux. In this paper, we prove a simple and explicit formula describing the crystal isomorphism between the alcove paths model and the Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns model for type $A$.
Transition between characters of classical groups, decomposition of Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns and last passage percolation

We study the combinatorial structure of the irreducible characters of the classical groups ${\rm GL}_n(\mathbb{C})$, ${\rm SO}_{2n+1}(\mathbb{C})$, ${\rm Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb{C})$, ${\rm SO}_{2n}(\mathbb{C})$ and the "non-classical" odd symplectic group ${\rm Sp}_{2n+1}(\mathbb{C})$, finding new connections to the probabilistic model of Last Passage Percolation (LPP). Perturbing the expressions of these characters as generating functions of Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns, we produce two families of symmetric polynomials that interpolate between characters of ${\rm Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb{C})$ and ${\rm SO}_{2n+1}(\mathbb{C})$ and between characters of ${\rm SO}_{2n}(\mathbb{C})$ and ${\rm SO}_{2n+1}(\mathbb{C})$. We identify the first family as a one-parameter specialization of Koornwinder polynomials, for which we thus provide a novel combinatorial structure; on the other hand, the second family appears to be new. We next develop a method of Gelfand-Tsetlin pattern decomposition to establish identities between all these polynomials that, in the case of irreducible characters, can be viewed as branching rules. Through these formulas we connect orthogonal and symplectic characters, and more generally the interpolating polynomials, to LPP models with various symmetries, thus going beyond the link with classical Schur polynomials originally found by Baik and Rains (Duke Math. J., 2001). Taking the scaling limit of the LPP models, we finally provide an explanation of why the Tracy-Widom GOE and GSE distributions from random matrix theory admit formulations in terms of both Fredholm determinants and Fredholm Pfaffians.
Moments of moments of characteristic polynomials of random unitary matrices and lattice point counts
In this note we give a combinatorial and non-computational proof of the asymptotics of the integer moments of the moments of the characteristic polynomials of Haar distributed unitary matrices as the size of the matrix goes to infinity. This is achieved by relating these quantities to a lattice point count problem. Our main result is a new explicit expression for the leading order coefficient in the asymptotic as a volume of a certain region involving continuous Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns with constraints.
Bijective proofs of skew Schur polynomial factorizations

In a recent paper, Ayyer and Behrend present for a wide class of partitions factorizations of Schur polynomials with an even number of variables where half of the variables are the reciprocals of the others into symplectic and/or orthogonal group characters, thereby generalizing results of Ciucu and Krattenthaler for rectangular shapes. Their proofs proceed by manipulations of determinants underlying the characters. The purpose of the current paper is to provide bijective proofs of such factorizations. The quantities involved have known combinatorial interpretations in terms of Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns of various types or half Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns, which can in turn be transformed into perfect matchings of weighted trapezoidal honeycomb graphs. An important ingredient is then Ciucu's theorem for graphs with reflective symmetry. However, before being able to apply it, we need to employ a certain averaging procedure in order to achieve symmetric edge weights. This procedure is based on a "randomized" bijection, which can however also be turned into a classical bijection. For one type of Schur polynomial factorization, we also need an additional graph operation that almost doubles the underlying graph. Finally, our combinatorial proofs reveal that the factorizations under consideration can in fact also be generalized to skew shapes as discussed at the end of the paper.
Some algebraic structures in KPZ universality
We review some algebraic and combinatorial structures that underlie models in the KPZ universality class.Emphasis is placed on the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence and its geometric lifting due to A.N.Kirillov. We present how these combinatorial constructions are used to analyse the structure of solvable models in the KPZ class and lead to computation of their statistics via connecting to representation theoretic objects such as Schur, Macdonald and Whittaker functions, Young tableaux and Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns. We also present how fundamental representation theoretic concepts, such as the Cauchy identity, the Pieri rule and the branching rule, can be used, alongside RSK correspondences, and can be combined with probabilistic ideas, in order to construct integrable stochastic dynamics on two dimensional arrays of Gelfand-Tsetlin type, in ways that couple different one dimensional stochastic processes. For example, interacting particle systems, on the one hand, and processes related to eigenvalues of random matrices, on the other, thus illuminating the emergence of random matrix distributions in interacting stochastic processes. The goal of the notes is to expose some of the overarching principles, which have driven a significant number of developments in the field.
