Last passage percolation in lower triangular domain
Last passage percolation (LPP) in an $n\times n$ lower triangular domain has nice connections with various generalizations of Schur measures. LPP along an anti-diagonal, from $(1,n)$ to $(n,1)$, gives a distribution of a highest column of a random composition with respect to a Demazure measure (a non-symmetric analog of a Schur measure). LPP along a main diagonal, from $(1,1)$ to $(n,n)$, is distributed as a marginal of a Pfaffian Schur process. In the first case we show that the asymptotics for the constant specialization is governed by the GOE Tracy-Widom distribution, in the second case - by the GSE Tracy-Widom distribution. In the latter case we were also able to study the truncated lower triangular case, obtaining an interesting generalization of the GSE Tracy-Widom distribution.
Ramanujan Property and Edge Universality of Random Regular Graphs
We consider the normalized adjacency matrix of a random $d$-regular graph on $N$ vertices with any fixed degree $d\geq 3$ and denote its eigenvalues as $λ_1=d/\sqrt{d-1}\geq λ_2\geqλ_3\cdots\geq λ_N$. We establish the following two results as $N\rightarrow \infty$. (i) With high probability, all eigenvalues are optimally rigid, up to an additional $N^{{\rm o}(1)}$ factor. Specifically, the fluctuations of bulk eigenvalues are bounded by $N^{-1+{\rm o}(1)}$, and the fluctuations of edge eigenvalues are bounded by $N^{-2/3+{\rm o}(1)}$. (ii) Edge universality holds for random $d$-regular graphs. That is, the distributions of $λ_2$ and $-λ_N$ converge to the Tracy-Widom$_1$ distribution associated with the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble. As a consequence, for sufficiently large $N$, approximately $69\%$ of $d$-regular graphs on $N$ vertices are Ramanujan, meaning $\max\{λ_2,|λ_N|\}\leq 2$.
Involution matrix loci and orbit harmonics
Let $\mathrm{Mat}_{n \times n}(\mathbb{C})$ be the affine space of $n \times n$ complex matrices with coordinate ring $\mathbb{C}[\mathbf{x}_{n \times n}]$. We define graded quotients of $\mathbb{C}[\mathbf{x}_{n \times n}]$ which carry an action of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ by simultaneous permutation of rows and columns. These quotient rings are obtained by applying the orbit harmonics method to matrix loci corresponding to all involutions in $\mathfrak{S}_n$ and the conjugacy classes of involutions in $\mathfrak{S}_n$ with a given number of fixed points. In the case of perfect matchings on $\{1, \dots, n\}$ with $n$ even, the Hilbert series of our quotient ring is related to Tracy-Widom distributions and its graded Frobenius image gives a refinement of the plethysm $s_{n/2}[s_2]$.
Limit shapes and fluctuations for $(GL_n, GL_k)$ skew Howe duality
We consider the probability measures on Young diagrams in the $n \times k$ rectangle obtained by piecewise-continuously differentiable specializations of Schur polynomials in the dual Cauchy identity. We use a free fermionic representation of the correlation kernel to study its asymptotic behavior and derive the uniform convergence to a limit shape of Young diagrams in the limit $n,k \to \infty$. More specifically, we show the bulk is the discrete sine kernel with boundary fluctuations generically given by the Tracy-Widom distribution with the Airy kernel. When our limit shape touches the boundary corner of the rectangle, the fluctuations with a second order correction are given by the discrete Hermite kernel, and we recover the discrete distribution of Gravner-Tracy-Widom (2001) [arXiv:math/0005133] restricting to the leading order. Finally, we demonstrate our limit shapes can have sections with no or full density of particles, where the Pearcey kernel appears when such a section is infinitely small.
Grothendieck Shenanigans: Permutons from pipe dreams via integrable probability
We study random permutations arising from reduced pipe dreams. Our main model is motivated by Grothendieck polynomials with parameter $β=1$ arising in K-theory of the flag variety. The probability weight of a permutation is proportional to the principal specialization (setting all variables to 1) of the corresponding Grothendieck polynomial. By mapping this random permutation to a version of TASEP (Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process), we describe the limiting permuton and fluctuations around it as the order $n$ of the permutation grows to infinity. The fluctuations are of order $n^{\frac13}$ and have the Tracy-Widom GUE distribution, which places this algebraic (K-theoretic) model into the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class.
We also investigate non-reduced pipe dreams and make progress on a recent open problem on the asymptotic number of inversions of the resulting permutation. Inspired by Stanley's question for the maximal value of principal specializations of Schubert polynomials, we resolve the analogous question for $β=1$ Grothendieck polynomials, and provide bounds for general $β$.

We consider the asymptotic behaviour of a family of unidimensional lattice fermion models, which are in exact correspondence with certain probability laws on partitions and on unitary matrices. These models exhibit limit shapes, and in the case where the bulk of these shapes are described by analytic functions, the fluctuations around their interfaces have been shown to follow a universal Tracy-Widom distribution or its higher-order analogue. Non-differentiable bulk limit shape functions arise when a gap appears in some quantum numbers of the model, in other words when the Fermi sea is split. We show that split Fermi seas give rise to new interface fluctuations, governed by integer powers of universal distributions. This breakdown in universality is analogous to the behaviour of a random Hermitian matrix when the support of its limiting eigenvalue distribution has multiple cuts, with oscillations appearing in the limit of the two-point correlation function. We show that when the Fermi sea is split in the lattice fermion model, there are multiple cuts in the eigenvalue support of the corresponding unitary matrix model.
Six-Vertex Model and Random Matrix Distributions
We survey the connections between the six-vertex (square ice) model of 2d statistical mechanics and random matrix theory. We highlight the same universal probability distributions appearing on both sides, and also indicate related open questions and conjectures. We present full proofs of two asymptotic theorems for the six-vertex model: in the first one the Gaussian Unitary Ensemble and GUE-corners process appear; the second one leads to the Tracy-Widom distribution $F_2$. While both results are not new, we found shorter transparent proofs for this text. On our way we introduce the key tools in the study of the six-vertex model, including the Yang-Baxter equation and the Izergin-Korepin formula.

We introduce multicritical Schur measures, which are probability laws on integer partitions which give rise to non-generic fluctuations at their edge. They are in the same universality classes as one-dimensional momentum-space models of free fermions in flat confining potentials, studied by Le Doussal, Majumdar and Schehr. These universality classes involve critical exponents of the form 1/(2m+1), with m a positive integer, and asymptotic distributions given by Fredholm determinants constructed from higher order Airy kernels, extending the generic Tracy-Widom GUE distribution recovered for m=1. We also compute limit shapes for the multicritical Schur measures, discuss the finite temperature setting, and exhibit an exact mapping to the multicritical unitary matrix models previously encountered by Periwal and Shevitz.

We study the distribution of the length of longest monotone subsequences in random (fixed-point free) involutions of $n$ integers as $n$ grows large, establishing asymptotic expansions in powers of $n^{-1/6}$ in the general case and in powers of $n^{-1/3}$ in the fixed-point free cases. Whilst the limit laws were shown by Baik and Rains to be one of the Tracy-Widom distributions $F_β$ for $β=1$ or $β=4$, we find explicit analytic expressions of the first few expansion terms as linear combinations of higher order derivatives of $F_β$ with rational polynomial coefficients. Our derivation is based on a concept of generalized analytic de-Poissonization and is subject to the validity of certain hypotheses for which we provide compelling (computational) evidence. In a preparatory step expansions of the hard-to-soft edge transition laws of L$β$E are studied, which are lifted into expansions of the generalized Poissonized length distributions for large intensities. (This paper continues our work arXiv:2301.02022, which established similar results in the case of general permutations and $β=2$.)
A note on monotone subsequences and the RS image of invariant random permutations with macroscopic number of fixed points
The work of Vershik and Kerov [1977], Logan and Shepp [1977] established that the shape of the scaled random young diagram in Russian notation, as determined by the Plancherel measure, converges to a deterministic shape. In this article, we focus on the scenario where the number of fixed points is substantial. We provide evidence that, subject to specific requirements on the total number of cycles, the limiting shape is a scaled version of the Vershik-Kerov-Logan-Shepp limiting shape. Additionally, we identify certain limiting regimes that resemble those in Chapuy, Louf, and Walsh [2022]. Furthermore, we enhance the existing results on Tracy-Widom universality classes for $β\in \{ 1, 2, 4\}$ for monotone subsequences.
Edge Universality of Random Regular Graphs of Growing Degrees
We consider the statistics of extreme eigenvalues of random $d$-regular graphs, with $N^{\mathfrak c}\leq d\leq N^{1/3-{\mathfrak c}}$ for arbitrarily small ${\mathfrak c}>0$. We prove that in this regime, the fluctuations of extreme eigenvalues are given by the Tracy-Widom distribution. As a consequence, about 69% of $d$-regular graphs have all nontrivial eigenvalues bounded in absolute value by $2\sqrt{d-1}$.

We study the distribution of the length of longest increasing subsequences in random permutations of $n$ integers as $n$ grows large and establish an asymptotic expansion in powers of $n^{-1/3}$. Whilst the limit law was already shown by Baik, Deift and Johansson to be the GUE Tracy-Widom distribution $F$, we find explicit analytic expressions of the first few finite-size correction terms as linear combinations of higher order derivatives of $F$ with rational polynomial coefficients. Our proof replaces Johansson's de-Poissonization, which is based on monotonicity as a Tauberian condition, by analytic de-Poissonization of Jacquet and Szpankowski, which is based on growth conditions in the complex plane; it is subject to a tameness hypothesis concerning complex zeros of the analytically continued Poissonized length distribution. In a preparatory step an expansion of the hard-to-soft edge transition law of LUE is studied, which is lifted into an expansion of the Poissonized length distribution for large intensities. Finally, expansions of Stirling-type approximations and of the expected value and variance of the length distribution are given.

We consider the Metropolis biased card shuffling (also called the multi-species ASEP on a finite interval or the random Metropolis scan). Its convergence to stationary was believed to exhibit a total-variation cutoff, and that was proved a few years ago by Labbé and Lacoin. In this paper, we prove that (for $N$ cards) the cutoff window is in the order of $N^{1/3}$, and the cutoff profile is given by the GOE Tracy-Widom distribution function. This confirms a conjecture by Bufetov and Nejjar. Our approach is different from Labbé-Lacoin, by comparing the card shuffling with the multi-species ASEP on $\mathbb{Z}$, and using Hecke algebra and recent ASEP shift-invariance and convergence results. Our result can also be viewed as a generalization of the Oriented Swap Process finishing time convergence of Bufetov-Gorin-Romik, which is the TASEP version (of our result).

We consider the statistics of the extreme eigenvalues of sparse random matrices, a class of random matrices that includes the normalized adjacency matrices of the Erd{\H o}s-R{é}nyi graph $G(N,p)$. Recently, it was shown by Lee, up to an explicit random shift, the optimal rigidity of extreme eigenvalues holds, provided the averaged degree grows with the size of the graph, $pN>N^\varepsilon$. We prove in the same regime, (i) Optimal rigidity holds for all eigenvalues with respect to an explicit random measure. (ii) Up to an explicit random shift, the fluctuations of the extreme eigenvalues are given the Tracy-Widom distribution.
Deformed Polynuclear Growth in $(1+1)$ Dimensions

We introduce and study a one parameter deformation of the polynuclear growth (PNG) in $(1+1)$-dimensions, which we call the $t$-PNG model. It is defined by requiring that, when two expanding islands merge, with probability $t$ they sprout another island on top of the merging location. At $t=0$, this becomes the standard (non-deformed) PNG model that, in the droplet geometry, can be reformulated through longest increasing subsequences of uniformly random permutations or through an algorithm known as patience sorting. In terms of the latter, the $t$-PNG model allows errors to occur in the sorting algorithm with probability $t$.
We prove that the $t$-PNG model exhibits one-point Tracy-Widom GUE asymptotics at large times for any fixed $t\in [0,1)$, and one-point convergence to the narrow wedge solution of the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation as $t$ tends to $1$. We further construct distributions for an external source that are likely to induce Baik-Ben Arous-Peche type phase transitions. The proofs are based on solvable stochastic vertex models and their connection to the determinantal point processes arising from Schur measures on partitions.
Hidden diagonal integrability of $q$-Hahn vertex model and Beta polymer model

We study a new integrable probabilistic system, defined in terms of a stochastic colored vertex model on a square lattice. The main distinctive feature of our model is a new family of parameters attached to diagonals rather than to rows or columns, like in other similar models. Because of these new parameters the previously known results about vertex models cannot be directly applied, but nevertheless the integrability remains, and we prove explicit integral expressions for $q$-deformed moments of the (colored) height functions of the model. Following known techniques our model can be interpreted as a $q$-discretization of the Beta polymer model from arXiv:1503.04117 with a new family of parameters, also attached to diagonals. To demonstrate how integrability with respect to the new diagonal parameters works, we extend the known results about Tracy-Widom large-scale fluctuations of the Beta polymer model.

We establish the universal edge scaling limit of random partitions with the infinite-parameter distribution called the Schur measure. We explore the asymptotic behavior of the wave function, which is a building block of the corresponding kernel, based on the Schr{ö}dinger-type differential equation. We show that the wave function is in general asymptotic to the Airy function and its higher-order analogs in the edge scaling limit. We construct the corresponding higher-order Airy kernel and the Tracy-Widom distribution from the wave function in the scalins limit, and discuss its implication to the multicritical phase transition in the large size matrix model. We also discuss the limit shape of random partitions through the semi-classical analysis of the wave function.

We study two families of probability measures on integer partitions, which are Schur measures with parameters tuned in such a way that the edge fluctuations are characterized by a critical exponent different from the generic $1/3$. We find that the first part asymptotically follows a "higher-order analogue" of the Tracy-Widom GUE distribution, previously encountered by Le Doussal, Majumdar and Schehr in quantum statistical physics. We also compute limit shapes, and discuss an exact mapping between one of our families and the multicritical unitary matrix models introduced by Periwal and Shevitz.
Discrete and continuous Muttalib--Borodin processes I: the hard edge

In this note we study a natural measure on plane partitions giving rise to a certain discrete-time Muttalib-Borodin process (MBP): each time-slice is a discrete version of a Muttalib-Borodin ensemble (MBE). The process is determinantal with explicit time-dependent correlation kernel. Moreover, in the $q \to 1$ limit, it converges to a continuous Jacobi-like MBP with Muttalib-Borodin marginals supported on the unit interval. This continuous process is also determinantal with explicit correlation kernel. We study its hard-edge scaling limit (around 0) to obtain a discrete-time-dependent generalization of the classical continuous Bessel kernel of random matrix theory (and, in fact, of the Meijer $G$-kernel as well). We lastly discuss two related applications: random sampling from such processes, and their interpretations as models of directed last passage percolation (LPP). In doing so, we introduce a corner growth model naturally associated to Jacobi processes, a version of which is the "usual" corner growth of Forrester-Rains in logarithmic coordinates. The aforementioned hard edge limits for our MBPs lead to interesting asymptotics for these LPP models. In particular, a special cases of our LPP asymptotics give rise (via the random matrix Bessel kernel and following Johansson's lead) to an extremal statistics distribution interpolating between the Tracy-Widom GUE and the Gumbel distributions.
Lecture Notes on "Random Matrices"
This in an introduction to random matrix theory, giving an impression of some of the most important aspects of this modern subject. In particular, it covers the basic combinatorial and analytic theory around Wigner's semicircle law, featuring also concentration phenomena, and the Tracy-Widom distribution of the largest eigenvalue. The circular law and a discussion of Voiculescu's multivariate extension of the semicircle law, as an appetizer for free probability theory, also make an appearance.
