Jack Content Operators and the Deformed ${\mathcal W}_{1+\infty}$ Algebra
Frenkel and Wang obtained a representation of the Virasoro algebra by commuting Goulden's cut-and-join operator with the Heisenberg generators. A vertex-operator construction by Lascoux and the author extends this representation to $\mathcal W_{1+\infty}$ by means of differential operators whose eigenvalues are the power sums of the contents of a Young diagram. We develop a Jack deformation in the spherical degenerate double affine Hecke algebra and its stable limit. Starting from the Heckman--Polychronakos integrals, we isolate operators whose eigenvalues are the power sums of the $α$-contents. Because the Goulden--Jackson product is defined in the convention dual to the usual Calogero--Sutherland Hamiltonians, the multiplication operators $Δ_μ(α)$ are obtained by taking Hall adjoints. This gives conceptual derivations of the Jack cut-and-join operator and of the stable $3$-cycle operator. A normal-ordering construction due to Sergeev and Veselov makes the latter calculation explicit and suggests an integral form over $\mathbb Z[α]$. The commutators of the cut-and-join operator contain one half of the usual Feigin--Fuchs realization, but this Virasoro completion is not the deformation of the Frenkel--Wang construction. The latter takes place in the deformed $\mathcal W_{1+\infty}$ algebra $\mathbf{SH}^c$, equivalently in the affine Yangian of $\mathfrak{gl}_1$: in our normalization its first nontrivial Cartan mode is $ψ_3=3Δ_2(α)+2(α-1)E$, and its commutators with the first raising and lowering modes recursively generate the remaining currents. At $α=1$ these relations specialize to the central-charge-one $\mathcal W_{1+\infty}$ representation used by Lascoux and the author.

Solution to an open problem on the computational complexity of immanant
Immanants are a class of generalized matrix functions associated with the irreducible characters of the symmetric group. Bürgisser [SIAM J. Comput., 30 (2000), pp. 1023--1040] proved that the computation of hook immanants and immanants corresponding to rectangular Young diagrams of polynomially growing width is VNP-complete under $p$-projections. And he posed an open problem: whether the family of immanants corresponding to rectangular Young diagrams of width $2$ is VNP-complete under $p$-projections. This paper gives a solution to this problem. We prove that, over any field of characteristic zero, the immanant families associated with rectangular Young diagrams of width $2$ and of length $2$ are both VNP-complete under $p$-projections.

Longest increasing subsequences of dyadic-type chaotic orbits
This paper studies the longest increasing subsequence (LIS) problem for sequences generated by dyadic-type chaotic interval maps. Starting from a single point $x\in[0,1)$ chosen uniformly at random, we form the order pattern of the first $N$ points of its orbit, with the doubling map as the basic model. Let $λ_1^{(N)}$ be the LIS length, equivalently the length of the first row of the Young diagram obtained by Schensted's insertion. We show that $\mathbb E[λ_1^{(N)}]/\sqrt N\to 2$, matching the leading asymptotics in the classical Ulam--Hammersley problem for uniform random permutations.

A Proof of Sundaram's Bounded-Interval Higher Lie Positivity Conjecture
For positive integers $n$ and $M$, Sundaram defined $ F_{n,M}=\sum_{\substack{d\mid n\\d\le M}} Lie_{n/d}[p_d] $ and conjectured that every coefficient in its Schur expansion is a nonnegative integer. We prove the conjecture. The power-sum expansion isolates the contribution of the identity class, and the proof divides Young diagrams at the intrinsic majority threshold. If the first row or first column contains more than half of the boxes, the Bernstein creation formula separates each rectangular-cycle character value into a hook constant and a remainder supported only on short cycles. The restrictions of the trivial and sign characters to the cyclic subgroup evaluate the constants exactly, whereas a uniform binomial contraction controls every distance from the boundary at once. If neither a row nor a column has a majority, Swanson's opposite-hook estimate gives a Catalan-scale lower bound for the dimension. The Fomin--Lulov rectangular-character estimate, together with uniform bounds for the truncated Möbius weights, then shows that the identity class dominates. Sundaram's plethystic identity consequently implies that $\prod_{r=1}^M(1-p_r)^{-1}$ is Schur-positive for every fixed $M$. We also record a degree-$12$ counterexample to a separate congruence-class product conjecture attributed to Richard Stanley.

Group Permanents of Abelian $p$-Groups and Young Diagrams
We study the number $\Nu(\Per(G_λ))$ of distinct monomials with nonzero coefficients in the group permanent of an abelian $p$-group $G_λ$ associated with a partition $λ$ of a positive integer $N$. First, we derive an explicit formula for $\Nu(\Per(G_λ))$ in terms of the partial column sums of the Young diagram of $λ$. Next, we show that the relative order of the values $\Nu(\Per(G_λ))$ is determined by a lexicographic comparison of the conjugate Young diagrams. Finally, we investigate congruence properties of $\Nu(\Per(G_λ))$ for abelian $p$-groups and establish a criterion involving Wolstenholme primes.

Normal ordering in the $(p,q)$-deformed generalized Weyl algebra. I: Algebraic Framework and Combinatorial Identities
The $(p,q)$-deformed generalized Weyl algebra is generated by variables $X, Y$ and $Z_p$ which satisfy the commutation relations $XY-qYX=h Y^sZ_{p}, XZ_p=pZ_pX$, and $Z_pY=pYZ_p$, with $s\in \mathbb{N}_0$. We investigate the problem of normal ordering arbitrary words in these letters with the help of Young diagrams, and we treat certain special cases explicitly. In particular, the connection to generalized Stirling numbers is considered in detail.

CRIM: A Natural Game on Integer Partitions
We analyze Column-Row Impartial Merge (CRIM), an impartial combinatorial game played on integer partitions. A move in CRIM consists of removing an arbitrary row or column from the corresponding Young diagram, with the remaining parts reattaching to form a single partition. We define rectairs -- a common generalization of rectangles and staircases -- and characterize their $\mathcal{P}/\mathcal{N}$-status. We define the meld operation on partitions and show that the meld of losing rectairs is losing. We introduce Odds-Are-Even (OAE) and Evens-Are-Odd (EAO) partitions, proving that all OAE partitions are $\mathcal{P}$-positions and characterizing the losing positions within EAO partitions. We determine the $\mathcal{P}/\mathcal{N}$-status for staircases and for $2$- and $3$-part partitions. We evaluate CRIM and its restrictions to certain partition families within the Conway-Gurvich-Ho classification scheme, establishing that CRIM is neither returnable nor domestic. We conjecture that every losing partition has even rank.

On the Schur-positivity of various sets of set partitions
A symmetric function is called Schur-positive if it admits an expansion in the Schur basis with nonnegative coefficients. In this paper, we study the Schur positivity of symmetric functions naturally associated with set partitions, with respect to two different notions of descent. In the first case, the Schur expansion involves hook-shaped Young diagrams, and the corresponding coefficients are given by Touchard-Riordan polynomials, which enumerate matchings by their number of crossings. In the second case, the Schur functions correspond to two-rows Young diagrams, and the coefficients are partial sums of associated Bell numbers. A key ingredient of our approach in the second case is the notion of a removable singleton, defined algebraically and shown to admit an equivalent combinatorial interpretation via jeu-de-taquin rectification of skew tableaux. As an application, we establish Schur positivity for various classes of symmetric functions indexed by non-crossing partitions and partitions with a given number of parts. We provide an explicit combinatorial description of the tableaux that contribute to the Schur expansion, and we connects the obtained coefficients to some known integer sequences.

Touchard-Riordan Polynomials and Schur-positivity of Set Partitions

A symmetric function is called Schur-positive if it admits an expansion in the Schur basis with nonnegative coefficients. In this paper, we study the Schur-positivity of symmetric functions naturally associated with set partitions, with respect to a descent set function that considers i as descent, if i and i+1 share a block in the partition. The Schur expansion involves hook-shaped Young diagrams, and the corresponding coefficients are given by Touchard-Riordan polynomials, which enumerate matchings by their number of crossings.

Hockey-Stick Domination and Distributional Comparison on Finite Posets
We develop a framework for comparing probability measures on finite posets via hockey-stick domination, an order relation defined through interval-counting test functions. The theory introduces poset integrals, derivatives, power functions and the associated moment functionals, all of which are invariant under poset isomorphisms. We prove that hockey-stick domination admits an exact quantitative characterization: whenever $μ$ is dominated by $ν$ in the hockey-stick order, the corresponding Zolotarev-type distance is equal to one half of the second-order poset moment of $ν-μ$. We further develop a constructive theory for generating such domination relations. In particular, we show that hockey-stick domination is preserved under direct products, disjoint unions, ordinal sums, and suitable ideal restrictions, yielding natural families of examples on chains, Boolean posets, rectangular lattices, rooted trees, and Young diagrams.

Deformation Theory and Torus-Fixed Geometry of the Nested Hilbert Scheme of Points
In this thesis, we study the nested Hilbert scheme ((\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n,n+1]}=\mathrm{Hilb}^{n,n+1}(\mathbb{A}^2)) from a combination of deformation theory, torus actions, and Young diagram combinatorics. We first recall the scheme theory and functor basics needed to define Hilbert schemes. We then use a classic result on first-order deformations to identify (T_I(\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n]}\cong \mathrm{Hom}*{\mathbb{C}[x,y]}(I,\mathbb{C}[x,y]/I)). For a nested pair (I\subset J), with (\dim*{\mathbb{C}}\mathbb{C}[x,y]/I=n+1) and (\dim_{\mathbb{C}}\mathbb{C}[x,y]/J=n), the tangent space becomes a compatibility kernel (T_{(I,J)}(\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n,n+1]}\cong \ker(\mathrm{Hom}(I,R/I)\oplus \mathrm{Hom}(J,R/J)\to \mathrm{Hom}(I,R/J))). The torus-fixed points are indexed by a partition (λ\vdash n+1) together with a removable corner (c) of its Young diagram. This corner is not only combinatorial, but also the monomial form of a one dimensional socle direction in (R/I_λ). The blow-up map to ((\mathbb{A}^2)^{[n]}\times \mathbb{A}^2) has fibres given by projective spaces of one-dimensional quotients of (J/\mathfrak m_pJ), whose torus-fixed points are addable boxes of the smaller diagram. These two local fibres explain how the universal family, the blow-up geometry, and Young diagram combinatorics come together in the study of the local geometry of the nested Hilbert scheme of points. Finally, we derive the tangent weight formula at a fixed point ((I_λ,I_{λ\setminus c})) in the torus convention used in the thesis. Using the standard arrow basis, we show in the proof how the arm-leg weights are modified by the compatibility kernel through a shortening rule determined by (c). A Macaulay2 verification computes the compatibility kernel from monomial syzygies and checks the weight formula for all partitions of size at most (16).

On certain combinatorial expressions of TASEP transition probabilities
We study combinatorial structures arising from finite-time transition probabilities of the Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process with open boundary conditions. While much of the existing combinatorial theory regarding the TASEP concerns the steady-state distribution, we focus instead on the transient dynamics. We first show that the enumeration of transition sequences between two configurations of the open TASEP is equivalent to the enumeration of standard Young tableaux of a family of non-classical shapes which have been of recent interest in the combinatorial literature. This extends to the open-boundary setting the correspondence between the TASEP with periodic boundaries and cylindric tableaux. We then introduce a family of tableau-like objects associated with Young diagrams in which repetitions of cells are allowed, subject to the partial order induced by the diagram. For each diagram, we collect the numbers of these objects into an exponential generating function. We prove that the entries of the homogeneous open TASEP transition matrix can be expressed as signed sums of such generating functions over suitable families of diagrams. This gives a combinatorial and order-theoretic interpretation of finite-time transition probabilities for the open TASEP, analogous to the combinatorial mappings known for steady-state probabilities.

Cutoff profiles for conjugacy invariant random walks on symmetric groups
We prove asymptotic equivalents for finite-level representations of symmetric groups, that is, for Young diagrams having all but finitely many boxes on their first row. We deduce that random walks on symmetric groups generated by conjugacy classes with a macroscopic number of fixed points have a Poissonian cutoff profile. We also prove that the random involution walk exhibits cutoff and find its cutoff profile. Finally, we obtain numerics for the random transposition walk on a deck of 52 cards, giving concrete estimates on the question that originally motivated Diaconis and Shahshahani.

Recursive Record Filtering and Longest Decreasing Subsequences
We consider a recursive record-filtering procedure, which we informally call Disappear-Sort. Let $D_n$ denote the random variable giving the required number of passes in Disappear-Sort to eliminate a sequence of length $n$ sampled as i.i.d. copies of a continuous random variable $X$, where each pass retains the left-to-right records and discards all remaining entries. We show that this procedure admits two natural probabilistic interpretations. For the resampling variant we prove that $d_n=\mathbb{E}[D_n]$ satisfies an exact recurrence involving the unsigned Stirling numbers of the first kind. For the non-resampling variant, we associate to a permutation $p_n\in S_n$ a natural poset and prove that the recursive Disappear-Sort layers form an antichain decomposition of this poset. We deduce that the total number of passes equals $L(p_n)$, where $L(p_n)$ is the length of the longest decreasing subsequence of $p_n$. We then show that for a uniform random permutation of size $n$, the expectation $\mathbb{E}[D_n]$ of this second variant coincides with the expected first-column length of a Plancherel-random Young diagram. Using the Robinson--Schensted correspondence, we obtain an exact formula for this expectation in terms of partitions and standard Young tableaux, and classical Plancherel asymptotics then yield $\mathbb{E}[D_n]\sim 2\sqrt{n}$, with fluctuations on the $n^{1/6}$ scale governed by the Tracy--Widom law derived by Baik, Deift and Johansson. We conclude with an $O(n\log n)$ implementation.
On the combinatorics of the refined 1-leg DT/PT correspondence
We provide a new proof of a result of Bessenrodt on the relation among the generating series of reversed plane partitions and skew plane partitions, motivated by the geometric DT/PT wallcrossing formula for local curves recently proved by the third author. This also recovers a result of Sagan. We moreover establish various new closed formulas for the weighted enumeration of reversed and skew plane partitions, proving a result dual to a theorem by Gansner, we find a new identity on the generating series counting internal and external hooks of a given Young diagram, and we combine the latter with Bessenrodt's theorem. Finally, we interpret our results as identities in the Fock space via the bosonic/fermionic formalism.
A Geometric Characterization of Maximal Unrefinable Partitions via the Keith-Nath Transformation and Young Diagrams
We investigate the combinatorial structure of unrefinable partitions through their correspondence with numerical sets and Young diagrams. Building on the bijection introduced by Keith and Nath, we apply a general geometric criterion that links the unrefinability of a partition directly to the hook lengths of its associated Young diagram. This criterion provides a structural method for the characterization of any unrefinable partition. Using this general framework, we revisit the correspondence results between maximal unrefinable partitions and partitions into distinct parts, previously established using enumerative methods. We provide alternative and purely combinatorial proofs of these bijections, focusing on the rigid symmetry structures of the Young diagrams. In the triangular weight case, we show that the corresponding diagrams are quasi-symmetric, i.e. symmetric up to a single extra column. We extend this analysis to the nontriangular case, showing that the diagrams either exhibit this same quasi-symmetric structure or are perfectly self-conjugate, depending on the maximal part.

Kostant's problem for permutations of shape $(n-2,1,1)$ and $(n-3,2,1)$
For a permutation $z$ in the symmetric group $\mathrm{S}_{n}$, denote by $L_{z}$ the corresponding simple highest weight module in the principal block of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ for the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_{n}(\mathbb{C})$. In this paper, we provide a combinatorial answer to Kostant's problem for the modules $L_{z}$ when $z$ has shape (associated Young diagram/integer partition via Robinson-Schensted correspondence) equal to $(n-2,1,1)$ or $(n-3,2,1)$. Moreover, we verify that certain closely related conjectures hold for such permutations, including the Indecomposability Conjecture, which states that applying any indecomposable projective functor to the corresponding simple highest weight module outputs either an indecomposable module or zero.

Unrefinable Partitions into Distinct Parts and Numerical Semigroups
This article investigates structural connections between unrefinable partitions into distinct parts and numerical semigroups. By analysing the hooksets of Young diagrams associated with numerical sets, new criteria for recognising unrefinable partitions are established. A correspondence between missing parts and the gaps of numerical semigroups is developed, extending previous classifications and enabling the characterisation of partitions with maximal numbers of missing parts. In particular, the results show that certain families of unrefinable partitions correspond precisely to symmetric numerical semigroups when the maximal part is prime. Further structural consequences, examples, and a decomposition of unrefinable partitions by minimal excludant are discussed, together with implications for the study of maximal unrefinable partitions.

Staircase hook-length ratios and special values of Jacobi polynomials
We relate hook-length products for adjacent staircase partitions to special values of Jacobi polynomials. This connection expresses the number of semistandard tableaux in terms of Jacobi polynomials defined via Gauss hypergeometric functions. From this identity, we derive the special values of stable Grothendieck polynomials and $K$-theoretic Schur $P$-functions indexed by adjacent staircase partitions. These values provide ratios of the numbers of set-valued and shifted set-valued semistandard tableaux. This connection is further clarified by the theory of excited Young diagrams, which characterizes the coefficients in these specializations.
$t$-Young complexes and squarefree powers of $t$-path ideals
We introduce a new class of simplicial complexes, called \emph{$t$-Young complexes}, arising from a Young diagram and a positive integer~$t$. We show that every $t$-Young complex is either contractible or homotopy equivalent to a wedge of spheres. A complete characterization of their vertex-decomposability is provided, and in several cases, we establish explicit formulas for their homotopy types. Interestingly, $t$-Young complexes naturally appear as the Alexander dual complexes of squarefree powers of $t$-path ideals of path graphs, as well as of certain ideals generated by subsets of their minimal generators. As an application, we derive formulas for the projective dimension and Krull dimension of these squarefree powers.
