Moments of the Crank Statistic for $t$-Core Partitions and Overpartitions
Recently, Kang, Kim, and Lee \cite{Kang2026} developed a unified moment-trace framework for symmetric partition statistics using complete Bell polynomials and their inversion formula. In this paper, we apply this framework to crank statistics for $t$-core partitions and overpartitions. For $t\in\{5,7,11,17,19\}$, we show that the normalized even crank moment generating functions for $t$-core partitions admit partition-trace representations in terms of the functions $D^{(t)}_{2s}(τ)$, together with suitable Bernoulli-number shifts. We also establish inverse trace formulas that recover $D^{(t)}_{2s}(τ)$ from the corresponding normalized even crank moments. For overpartitions, we obtain analogous trace and inverse-trace identities for the normalized even moments associated with the first and second residual crank generating functions. As applications, we use complete Bell polynomials and their inversion formula to obtain explicit expressions for the $t$-core partition numbers and overpartitions number in terms of sums involving divisor function.
The Partition Pairing Theorems I
The aim of this paper is to introduce pairing theory for partitions. We begin with two statistics on integer partitions, the \emph{pairing index} and the \emph{pairing rank}. The pairing index is equidistributed with the number of parts, while a joint refinement identifies its two constituents with the numbers of even and odd parts. We further introduce the \emph{pairing width} and prove that pairing index and pairing width are jointly equidistributed with the number of parts and the largest part. The resulting finite Gaussian generating function has a cyclotomic factorization from which Kummer's famous carry theorem for binomial coefficients follows. We also prove a mod-$5$ congruence for the excess of unpaired parts congruent to $1$ modulo $4$ over those congruent to $3$ modulo $4$ in the partitions of $5n+4$. A signed specialization exhibits that the parity of the pairing rank is governed by self-conjugate partitions. Motivated by this, we go on to introduce a second, diagrammatic pairing: after the two wings of the Durfee square are folded together, the unpaired cells break into connected \emph{diagonal blocks}. These blocks may be reflected independently, giving a Boolean decomposition of the set of partitions with a unique representative having all successive ranks nonnegative. We then relate our theory to overpartitions and Frobenius representations, obtaining as a corollary a geometric realization of overpartitions in terms of partitions whose principal hooks are all even. Finally, we study simply paired partitions of negative pairing rank, obtaining identities involving odd divisors and overpartitions, a parity theorem for pairing rank $-2$, and a Toeplitz determinant whose coefficientwise limit is an explicit infinite product related to MacMahon's product for plane partitions.
Some Comments on Regular Overpartitions modulo $2^k$
For coprime integers $\ell,μ\ge 2$, Alanazi, Munagi, and Saikia (2026) studied $\overline{R}_{\ell,μ}(n)$, the number of overpartitions of $n$ in which no part is divisible by $\ell$ or by $μ$, together with the single-modulus analogue $\overline{R}_{\ell (n)$. We record a simple combinatorial mechanism that determines both functions modulo every power of $2$ in terms of the number of distinct part sizes of the underlying ordinary partition. We also deduce a clean characterization of $\overline{R}_{\ell}(n)$ and $\overline{R}_{\ell,μ}(n)$ modulo $4$ in terms of perfect squares.
On a two-color partition series and its companions
We study the two-color distinct-part series \(S_1(q)\), equivalently Andrews' generating function \(v_d(q)\) for strictly concave compositions, and its odd and even companions \(T_o(q)\) and \(T_e(q)\). We determine the coefficients of \(S_1(q)\) modulo \(4\) and obtain a complete criterion for the resulting Ramanujan-type progressions. For the even companion, we give a direct overpartition interpretation of its coefficients and show that two natural partition families are each counted by half of those coefficients. For the eta-normalized odd companion \(C(q)=(q;q)_\infty T_o(q)\), we prove a quintic self-similarity, derive exact vanishing relations and infinite sign changes for its coefficients, and show that \(c(n)\) can be nonzero only when \(24n+28\) is represented by \(x^2+3y^2\).
Separable integer partition classes and Slater's list -- II
Slater's list of Rogers-Ramanujan type identities remains a central source of striking series-product formulas in the theory of partitions and basic hypergeometric series. Although many of these identities admit elegant analytic proofs through Bailey pairs, Bailey chains, or transformations of basic hypergeometric series, the partition-theoretic meaning of their series sides is often much less apparent. In this paper, which continues the program initiated in arXiv:2603.14179, we apply Andrews' theory of separable integer partition classes to further identities from Slater's list. We construct a strict overpartition class and two families of overpartitions with positional gap conditions, in which overlining is permitted only at alternating positions. Their multivariate generating functions give natural refinements of the series sides of Slater's identities (12), (28), (29), (47), (48), (50), and (51). We then use Heine-type transformations, a limiting form of Heine's transformations, Watson's $q$-analogue of Whipple's theorem, and classical theta-product identities to obtain alternative series representations and recover the associated products. In addition, we derive a new companion identity to a Slater identity and a signed companion formula. Our results further demonstrate that SIP classes provide a flexible framework for converting basic hypergeometric series into structured partition generating functions, while simultaneously producing refinements, transformations, and new Rogers-Ramanujan type identities.
Sum of parts in overpartitions and partitions without repeated odd parts
In this paper, we obtain several Ramanujan-type congruences modulo 5 and 7 for sum of certain non-overlined parts in overpartitions classified by parity and sum of certain parts in partitions without repeated odd parts classified by parity. Our proofs for the congruences are elementary, depending only on classical theta function identities.
On the number of missing integers in partitions
In the preceding decade, Andrews and Newman resurrected the concept of a `minimal excludant' of a partition ($mex$, for short), namely, the least positive missing integer in a partition. Subsequently, several authors have not only studied its generalizations, analogues and the like but also connected the mex to several important partition statistics. In the present paper, we study the set of missing positive integers as a whole, in two different classes of partitions, namely, unrestricted partitions and overpartitions. To be precise, a $missing \ integer$ is a positive integer that is less than the largest part of a partition and which does not occur as a part. In particular, we examine the number of partitions with a given number of missing integers, determine congruences for two pairs of functions associated to them, and propose three bias type inequality conjectures for these functions.
On an Overpartition Analogue of $SOME(n)$
Recently, Andrews and Dastidar introduced the partition function $SOME(n)$, defined as the sum of all the odd parts in the partitions of $n$ minus the sum of all the even parts in the partitions of $n$. They derived its generating function and established some congruences satisfied by \(SOME(n)\). In this paper, we introduce an overpartition analogue of $SOME(n)$, denoted by $\overline{SOME}(n)$, the sum of all the odd parts in the overpartitions of \(n\) minus the sum of all the even parts in the overpartitions of \(n\). We derive the generating function for $\overline{SOME}(n)$ and obtain congruences modulo \(3, \ 5\) and powers of \(2\). Our method is based on classical $q$-series identities and manipulations of infinite products and sums.
Overcolored Partition Restricted by Parity of the Parts
Very recently, Thejitha, Sellers, and Fathima defined the function $a_{r,s}(n)$, which enumerates the number of multicolored partitions of $n$, wherein both even parts and odd parts may appear in one of $r$-colors and $s$-colors, respectively, for fixed $r,s\ge 1$. In this paper, we extend the concept to overpartitions.
Combinatorial proofs of some identities on overpartitions with repeated smallest non-overlined part
Let $\overline{\mathrm{spt}}k(n)$ denote the number of overpartitions of $n$ where the smallest non-overlined part, say $s(π)$, appears $k$ times and every overlined part is bigger than $s(π)$. Let $\overline{\mathrm{spt}}k_o(n)$ denote the number of overpartitions of $n$ where the smallest non-overlined part appears $k$ times, every overlined part is bigger than $s(π)$ and all parts other than $s(π)$ are incongruent modulo $2$ with $s(π)$. Also, let $b_e(k,n)$ (resp., $b_o(k,n)$) denote the number of overpartitions of $n$ counted by $\overline{\mathrm{spt}}k_o(n)$ where the number of parts greater than $s(π)$ is even (resp., odd), and let $$\overline{\mathrm{spt}}k_o'(n)=b_e(k,n)-b_o(k,n).$$ Recently, Malik and Sarma (arXiv:2601.15601v1) expressed the generating functions of these partition functions in terms of linear combinations of $q$-series with polynomials in $q$ as coefficients. As corollaries, they derived some partition identities involving the functions for $k=1$ and sought for combinatorial proofs of their results. In this paper, we present some desired proofs.
Overpartitions with repeated smallest non-overlined part
Inspired by Andrews' and Bachraoui's work on partitions with repeated smallest part, we extend the concept to overpartitions.
Polynomization of Sun's Conjecture
Let $p(n)$ denote the number of partitions of a natural number $n$. As $ n \to \infty$, the $n$th root of $p(n)$ tends to $1$, which is related to the Cauchy--Hadamard test for power series. Andrews also discovered an elementary proof. Sun conjectured that this happens in a certain way for $n\geq 6$: \begin{equation*} \sqrt[n]{p(n)} > \sqrt[n+1]{p(n+1)}. \end{equation*} The conjecture was proved by Wang and Zhu; shortly thereafter, Chen and Zheng independently obtained a second proof. In this paper, we follow an approach by Rota. We consider $p(n)$ as special values of the D'Arcais polynomials, known as the Nekrasov--Okounkov polynomials. This identifies Sun's conjecture as a property of the largest real zero of certain polynomials. This leads to results towards $k$-coloured partitions, overpartitions, and plane partitions. Moreover, we also consider Chebyshev and Laguerre polynomials. The main purpose of this paper is to offer a uniform approach.
MacMahon-type $q$-series
Motivated by earlier work of P.~A.~MacMahon and recent contributions of T.~Amdeberhan, G.~E.~Andrews, K.~Ono, A.~Singh, and R.~Tauraso on higher-order partition enumerants, we study a class of $q$-series arising from nested divisor structures. In particular, we consider the $q$-series \[ V_k(q) = \sum_{1 \le n_1 \le n_2 \le \cdots \le n_k} \frac{q^{\,n_1+n_2+\cdots+n_k}} {(1-q^{n_1})^2(1-q^{n_2})^2\cdots(1-q^{n_k})^2}, \] introduced recently as MacMahon-type generating functions. We further define a new MacMahon-type series \[ W_k(q) = \sum_{1 \le n_1 \le n_2 \le \cdots \le n_k} \frac{q^{\,2(n_1+n_2+\cdots+n_k)-k}} {(1-q^{2n_1-1})^2(1-q^{2n_2-1})^2\cdots(1-q^{2n_k-1})^2}, \] and establish families of identities, generating function relations, and hypergeometric representations for the truncated forms of $V_k(q)$ and $W_k(q)$. Connections with overpartition pairs and bipartitions with distinct odd parts arise naturally in this context.
Generalized rank deviations for overpartitions
We prove formulas for generalized rank deviations for overpartitions. These formulas are in terms of Appell-Lerch series and sums of quotients of theta functions and extend work of Lovejoy and the second author. As an application, we compute a dissection.
Block-Separated Overpartitions and Their Fibonacci-Type Structure
We introduce and study a new restricted family of overpartitions, called block-separated overpartitions, in which no two consecutive distinct part-size blocks may both be overlined. Using a two-state transfer-matrix automaton, we derive a closed matrix-product expression for the ordinary generating function, establish an Euler-type factorization, and obtain an explicit normalized recurrence suitable for computation of arbitrary coefficients. We further prove that the possible overlining patterns on the distinct blocks are counted by Fibonacci numbers, giving natural bijections with independent sets on paths, pattern-avoiding binary words, and Fibonacci tilings.
Perfect Overpartitions and Factorization of Integers
In his classic text, \emph{Combinatory Analysis}, MacMahon defined a perfect partition of a positive integer $n$ as a partition whose parts contain exactly one partition of every positive integer not exceeding $n$. In this paper we apply the same definition to overpartitions which are integer partitions with the additional property that the final occurrence of each part may be overlined. It turns out that perfect overpartitions are enumerated by ordered factorization functions in which the occurrence of 2 as a factor determines the presence of an overlined part.
An iterative-bijective approach to asymmetric generalizations of Schur's theorem
In this paper, we present a new Rogers--Ramanujan type identity for overpartitions by extending the asymmetrical version of Schur's theorem due to Lovejoy to a broader class of infinite products. More precisely, we provide a combinatorial interpretation of the following product, for any positive integer $k$, as a generating function for a class of overpartitions in which parts appear in $2^k - 1$ colors: \[ \frac{(-y_1 q;q)_\infty \cdots (-y_k q;q)_\infty}{(y_1 d q;q)_\infty}. \] Our proof is bijective and unifies two earlier approaches: Lovejoy's bijective proof of the asymmetrical Schur theorem and the iterative-bijective technique developed by Corteel and Lovejoy.
Combinatorial Proofs for Overpartitions and Two-Colored Partitions II
Andrews and El Bachraoui recently studied various two-colored integer partitions, including those related to two-colored partitions into distinct parts with constraints and overpartitions. Their work raised questions about the existence of combinatorial proofs for these results, which were partially addressed by the first author and Zou. This paper provides combinatorial proofs for the remaining results concerning two-colored partitions and overpartitions with constraints.
$q$-Binomial expansions of the truncated MacMahon's $q$-series
In 1920, MacMahon introduced two families of $q$-series to study divisor sums. Recent work has shown that MacMahon's $q$-series are closely connected to overpartitions and $3$-colored partitions. Merca introduced truncated forms of MacMahon's $q$-series to generalize earlier results by Andrews-Rose and Ono-Singh, and posed two conjectures regarding the $q$-binomial expansions of these truncated series. In this paper, we provide combinatorial proofs of Merca's conjectures through the combinatorial interpretation of $q$-binomial coefficients.
Combinatorial interpretation of a truncated identity of Gauss
In 2012, Andrews and Merca proved a truncated theorem on Euler's pentagonal number theorem, which opened up a new study on truncated theta series. In particular, some truncated versions of a identity of Gauss have been proved. In this article, we provide new combinatorial interpretations of the truncated versions of the identity of Gauss in terms of the minimal excludant non-overlined part of an overpartition.
