Dimer models on astroidal zig-zag graphs
On a finite weighted graph, the dimer model is a probability measure on its dimer covers, that assigns to any cover a probability proportional to the product of the weights of its edges. For planar bipartite graphs, dimer correlations are encoded by the inverse of the so-called Kasteleyn matrix; for a large graph, typically taken as a finite domain in a periodic graph, this inverse matrix is known explicitly only for a handful of examples. In all previously known examples, the Newton polygon -- a convex lattice polygon that classifies periodic graphs up to local moves -- is either a triangle or a quadrilateral.
Our main results are the following.
For any (minimal) periodic planar bipartite graph, we construct an $(n-3)$-dimensional family of finite subgraphs for which we obtain an explicit inverse Kasteleyn matrix; here $n$ is the number of sides of the Newton polygon. Their boundaries are formed by zig-zag paths and their overall shape is reminiscent of an astroid; we call them astroidal zig-zag graphs (AZ graphs). If the Newton polygon is the unit square then the corresponding AZ graph is the celebrated Aztec diamond with its size as the parameter.
Our inverse Kasteleyn matrices are given by a double contour integral on the corresponding spectral curve for any Fock weighting of the graph. This includes, in particular, all periodic weightings.
For periodic weightings, we asymptotically analyze the resulting inverse Kasteleyn matrices. We establish a phase separation in large AZ graphs into asymptotically frozen, rough (liquid), and smooth (gaseous) regions, and obtain an explicit parametrization of the `arctic curve'.
We also compute the deterministic limit of the height function, known as the limit shape, and prove the convergence of the local dimer correlations to the translation-invariant Gibbs measure of the slope predicted by the limit shape.
Coloured corner processes from asymptotics of LLT polynomials
We consider probability measures arising from the Cauchy summation identity for the LLT (Lascoux--Leclerc--Thibon) symmetric polynomials of rank $n \geq 1$. We study the asymptotic behaviour of these measures as one of the two sets of polynomials in the Cauchy identity stays fixed, while the other one grows to infinity. At $n=1$, this corresponds to an analogous limit of the Schur process, which is known to be given by the Gaussian Unitary Ensemble (GUE) corners process.
Our main result states that, for $n>1$, our measures asymptotically split into two parts: a continuous one and a discrete one. The continuous part is a product of $n$ GUE corners processes; the discrete part is an explicit finite distribution on interlacing $n$-colourings of $n$ interlacing triangles, which has weights that are rational functions in the LLT parameter $q$. The latter distribution has a number of interesting (partly conjectural) combinatorial properties, such as $q$-nonnegativity and enumerative phenomena underlying its support.
Our main tools are two different representations of the LLT polynomials, one as partition functions of a fermionic lattice model of rank $n$, and the other as finite-dimensional contour integrals, which were recently obtained in arXiv:2012.02376, arXiv:2101.01605.
Free Fermion Six Vertex Model: Symmetric Functions and Random Domino Tilings

Our work deals with symmetric rational functions and probabilistic models based on the fully inhomogeneous six vertex (ice type) model satisfying the free fermion condition. Two families of symmetric rational functions $F_λ,G_λ$ are defined as certain partition functions of the six vertex model, with variables corresponding to row rapidities, and the labeling signatures $λ=(λ_1\ge \ldots\ge λ_N)\in \mathbb{Z}^N$ encoding boundary conditions. These symmetric functions generalize Schur symmetric polynomials, as well as some of their variations, such as factorial and supersymmetric Schur polynomials. Cauchy type summation identities for $F_λ,G_λ$ and their skew counterparts follow from the Yang-Baxter equation. Using algebraic Bethe Ansatz, we obtain a double alternant type formula for $F_λ$ and a Sergeev-Pragacz type formula for $G_λ$.
In the spirit of the theory of Schur processes, we define probability measures on sequences of signatures with probability weights proportional to products of our symmetric functions. We show that these measures can be viewed as determinantal point processes, and we express their correlation kernels in a double contour integral form. We present two proofs: The first is a direct computation of Eynard-Mehta type, and the second uses non-standard, inhomogeneous versions of fermionic operators in a Fock space coming from the algebraic Bethe Ansatz for the six vertex model.
We also interpret our determinantal processes as random domino tilings of a half-strip with inhomogeneous domino weights. In the bulk, we show that the lattice asymptotic behavior of such domino tilings is described by a new determinantal point process on $\mathbb{Z}^{2}$, which can be viewed as an doubly-inhomogeneous generalization of the extended discrete sine process.
Deformed Polynuclear Growth in $(1+1)$ Dimensions

We introduce and study a one parameter deformation of the polynuclear growth (PNG) in $(1+1)$-dimensions, which we call the $t$-PNG model. It is defined by requiring that, when two expanding islands merge, with probability $t$ they sprout another island on top of the merging location. At $t=0$, this becomes the standard (non-deformed) PNG model that, in the droplet geometry, can be reformulated through longest increasing subsequences of uniformly random permutations or through an algorithm known as patience sorting. In terms of the latter, the $t$-PNG model allows errors to occur in the sorting algorithm with probability $t$.
We prove that the $t$-PNG model exhibits one-point Tracy-Widom GUE asymptotics at large times for any fixed $t\in [0,1)$, and one-point convergence to the narrow wedge solution of the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation as $t$ tends to $1$. We further construct distributions for an external source that are likely to induce Baik-Ben Arous-Peche type phase transitions. The proofs are based on solvable stochastic vertex models and their connection to the determinantal point processes arising from Schur measures on partitions.
Inhomogeneous spin $q$-Whittaker polynomials
We introduce and study an inhomogeneous generalization of the spin $q$-Whittaker polynomials from [Borodin,Wheeler-17]. These are symmetric polynomials, and we prove a branching rule, skew dual and non-dual Cauchy identities, and an integral representation for them. Our main tool is a novel family of deformed Yang-Baxter equations.

In this text we introduce and analyze families of symmetric functions arising as partition functions for colored fermionic vertex models associated with the quantized affine Lie superalgebra $U_q \big( \widehat{\mathfrak{sl}} (1 | n) \big)$. We establish various combinatorial results for these vertex models and symmetric functions, which include the following.
(1) We apply the fusion procedure to the fundamental $R$-matrix for $U_q \big( \widehat{\mathfrak{sl}} (1 | n) \big)$ to obtain an explicit family of vertex weights satisfying the Yang-Baxter equation.
(2) We define families of symmetric functions as partition functions for colored, fermionic vertex models under these fused weights. We further establish several combinatorial properties for these symmetric functions, such as branching rules and Cauchy identities.
(3) We show that the Lascoux-Leclerc-Thibon (LLT) polynomials arise as special cases of these symmetric functions. This enables us to show both old and new properties about the LLT polynomials, including Cauchy identities, contour integral formulas, stability properties, and branching rules under a certain family of plethystic transformations.
(4) A different special case of our symmetric functions gives rise to a new family of polynomials called factorial LLT polynomials. We show they generalize the LLT polynomials, while also satisfying a vanishing condition reminiscent of that satisfied by the factorial Schur functions.
(5) By considering our vertex model on a cylinder, we obtain fermionic partition function formulas for both the symmetric and nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials.
(6) We prove combinatorial formulas for the coefficients of the LLT polynomials when expanded in the modified Hall-Littlewood basis, as partition functions for a $U_q \big( \widehat{\mathfrak{sl}} (2 | n) \big)$ vertex model.

In the context of the coloured stochastic vertex model in a quadrant, we identify a family of observables whose averages are given by explicit contour integrals. The observables are certain linear combinations of $q$-moments of the coloured height functions of the model. In a polymer limit, this yields integral representations for moments of partition functions of strict-weak, semi-discrete Brownian, and continuum Brownian polymers with varying beginning and ending points of the polymers.
Shift-invariance for vertex models and polymers

We establish a symmetry in a variety of integrable stochastic systems: Certain multi-point distributions of natural observables are unchanged under a shift of a subset of observation points. The property holds for stochastic vertex models, (1+1)d directed polymers in random media, last passage percolation, the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation, and the Airy sheet. In each instance it leads to computations of previously inaccessible joint distributions. The proofs rely on a combination of the Yang-Baxter integrability of the inhomogeneous colored stochastic six-vertex model and Lagrange interpolation. We also show that a simplified (Gaussian) version of our theorems is related to the invariance in law of the local time of the Brownian bridge under the shift of the observation level.
Color-position symmetry in interacting particle systems
We prove a color-position symmetry for a class of ASEP-like interacting particle systems with discrete time on the one-dimensional lattice. The full space-time inhomogeneity of our systems allows to apply the result to colored (or multi-species) ASEP and stochastic vertex models for a certain class of initial/boundary conditions, generalizing previous results of Amir-Angel-Valko and Borodin-Wheeler. We are also able to use the symmetry, together with previously known results for uncolored models, to find novel asymptotic behavior of the second class particles in several situations.

Starting from an integrable rank-$n$ vertex model, we construct an explicit family of partition functions indexed by compositions $μ= (μ_1,\dots,μ_n)$. Using the Yang-Baxter algebra of the model and a certain rotation operation that acts on our partition functions, we show that they are eigenfunctions of the Cherednik-Dunkl operators $Y_i$ for all $1 \leq i \leq n$, and are thus equal to nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials $E_μ$. Our partition functions have the combinatorial interpretation of ensembles of coloured lattice paths which traverse a cylinder. Applying a simple bijection to such path ensembles, we show how to recover the well-known combinatorial formula for $E_μ$ due to Haglund-Haiman-Loehr.

This work is dedicated to $\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1}$-related integrable stochastic vertex models; we call such models coloured. We prove several results about these models, which include the following:
(1) We construct the basis of (rational) eigenfunctions of the coloured transfer-matrices as partition functions of our lattice models with certain boundary conditions. Similarly, we construct a dual basis and prove the corresponding orthogonality relations and Plancherel formulae; (2) We derive a variety of combinatorial properties of those eigenfunctions, such as branching rules, exchange relations under Hecke divided-difference operators, (skew) Cauchy identities of different types, and monomial expansions; (3) We show that our eigenfunctions are certain (non-obvious) reductions of the nested Bethe Ansatz eigenfunctions; (4) For models in a quadrant with domain-wall (or half-Bernoulli) boundary conditions, we prove a matching relation that identifies the distribution of the coloured height function at a point with the distribution of the height function along a line in an associated colour-blind ($\mathfrak{sl}_2$-related) stochastic vertex model. Thanks to a variety of known results about asymptotics of height functions of the colour-blind models, this implies a similar variety of limit theorems for the coloured height function of our models; (5) We demonstrate how the coloured-uncoloured match degenerates to the coloured (or multi-species) versions of the ASEP, $q$-PushTASEP, and the $q$-boson model; (6) We show how our eigenfunctions relate to non-symmetric Cherednik-Macdonald theory, and we make use of this connection to prove a probabilistic matching result by applying Cherednik-Dunkl operators to the corresponding non-symmetric Cauchy identity.

We consider a random process with discrete time formed by singular values of products of truncations of Haar distributed unitary matrices. We show that this process can be understood as a scaling limit of the Schur process, which gives determinantal formulas for (dynamical) correlation functions and a contour integral representation for the correlation kernel. The relation with the Schur processes implies that the continuous limit of marginals for q-distributed plane partitions coincides with the joint law of singular values for products of truncations of Haar-distributed random unitary matrices. We provide structural reasons for this coincidence that may also extend to other classes of random matrices.

Macdonald processes are measures on sequences of integer partitions built using the Cauchy summation identity for Macdonald symmetric functions. These measures are a useful tool to uncover the integrability of many probabilistic systems, including the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation and a number of other models in its universality class. In this paper we develop the structural theory behind half-space variants of these models and the corresponding half-space Macdonald processes. These processes are built using a Littlewood summation identity instead of the Cauchy identity, and their analysis is considerably harder than their full-space counterparts.
We compute moments and Laplace transforms of observables for general half-space Macdonald measures. Introducing new dynamics preserving this class of measures, we relate them to various stochastic processes, in particular the log-gamma polymer in a half-quadrant (they are also related to the stochastic six-vertex model in a half-quadrant and the half-space ASEP). For the polymer model, we provide explicit integral formulas for the Laplace transform of the partition function. Non-rigorous saddle point asymptotics yield convergence of the directed polymer free energy to either the Tracy-Widom GOE, GSE or the Gaussian distribution depending on the average size of weights on the boundary.

We demonstrate a Markov duality between the dynamic ASEP and the standard ASEP. We then apply this to step initial data, as well as a half-stationary initial data (which we introduce). While investigating the duality for half-stationary initial data, we uncover and utilize connections to continuous $q^{-1}$-Hermite polynomials. Finally, we introduce a family of stationary initial data which are related to the indeterminate moment problem associated with these $q^{-1}$-Hermite polynomials.

We consider the asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) on the positive integers with an open boundary condition. We show that, when starting devoid of particles and for a certain boundary condition, the height function at the origin fluctuates asymptotically (in large time $τ$) according to the Tracy-Widom GOE distribution on the $τ^{1/3}$ scale. This is the first example of KPZ asymptotics for a half-space system outside the class of free-fermionic/determinantal/Pfaffian models.
Our main tool in this analysis is a new class of probability measures on Young diagrams that we call half-space Macdonald processes, as well as two surprising relations. The first relates a special (Hall-Littlewood) case of these measures to the half-space stochastic six-vertex model (which further limits to ASEP) using a Yang-Baxter graphical argument. The second relates certain averages under these measures to their half-space (or Pfaffian) Schur process analogs via a refined Littlewood identity.

We introduce and study a one-parameter generalization of the q-Whittaker symmetric functions. This is a family of multivariate symmetric polynomials, whose construction may be viewed as an application of the procedure of fusion from integrable lattice models to a vertex model interpretation of a one-parameter generalization of Hall-Littlewood polynomials from [Bor17, BP16a, BP16b].
We prove branching and Pieri rules, standard and dual (skew) Cauchy summation identities, and an integral representation for the new polynomials.
Between the stochastic six vertex model and Hall-Littlewood processes
We prove that the joint distribution of the values of the height function for the stochastic six vertex model in a quadrant along a down-right path coincides with that for the lengths of the first columns of partitions distributed according to certain Hall-Littlewood processes. In the limit when one of the quadrant axes becomes continuous, we also show that the two-dimensional random field of the height function values has the same distribution as the lengths of the first columns of partitions from certain ascending Hall-Littlewood processes evolving under a Robinson-Schensted-Knuth type Markovian evolution.

We consider a homogeneous stochastic higher spin six vertex model in a quadrant. For this model we derive concise integral representations for multi-point q-moments of the height function and for the q-correlation functions. At least in the case of the step initial condition, our formulas degenerate in appropriate limits to many known formulas of such type for integrable probabilistic systems in the (1+1)d KPZ universality class, including the stochastic six vertex model, ASEP, various q-TASEPs, and associated zero range processes.
Our arguments are largely based on properties of a family of symmetric rational functions (introduced in arXiv:1410.0976) that can be defined as partition functions of the higher spin six vertex model for suitable domains; they generalize classical Hall-Littlewood and Schur polynomials. A key role is played by Cauchy-like summation identities for these functions, which are obtained as a direct corollary of the Yang-Baxter equation for the higher spin six vertex model.
These are lecture notes for a course given by A.B. at the Ecole de Physique des Houches in July of 2015. All the results and proofs presented here generalize to the setting of the fully inhomogeneous higher spin six vertex model, see arXiv:1601.05770 for a detailed exposition of the inhomogeneous case.
