Dual Lattice Functions of Polytopes
We define the dual lattice function of a rational polytope $P$ via the discrete Laplace transform of the exponential of its support function. This definition is a discrete analogue of the dual volume function of a polytope that the authors studied in previous work. We show that the dual lattice function is valuative, and by multiplying with the torus form, it becomes the canonical form of the exponential polytope $\mathrm{exp}(P)$ as a positive geometry. This result suggests the study of the class of toric polytopes, which are certain semialgebraic subsets of projective toric varieties. Our work is a first step towards discretization of positive geometries in the simplest case of polytopes.

The Opdam-Cherednik kernel is the Laplace transform of a positive measure
We prove that the Opdam-Cherednik kernel, also known as the nonsymmetric Opdam hypergeometric function, can be written as the Laplace transform of a positive measure supported on the convex hull of the Weyl group orbit of its argument. As a consequence, the trigonometric Dunkl intertwining operator is positivity preserving. The main ingredient in the proof is a new formula for the Opdam-Cherednik kernel as a degeneration of nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials. As a further application, we prove majorization inequalities for Macdonald polynomials and Heckman-Opdam hypergeometric functions associated with arbitrary root systems.

Proofs of four generating function conjectures for arbor polytopes
This paper proves four conjectured generating series, due to Chapoton, which concern invariants of posets and polytopes associated with a specific sequence of arbors. Two of these conjectures provide closed-form formulas for the generating series of the Zeta polynomial and the generating series of the M-triangle of the poset, respectively. The remaining two conjectures pertain, respectively, to the Ehrhart polynomial and the Laplace transform of the volume function of the associated arbor polytope.

The Universe Fan
The wavefunction of the universe, as studied in perturbative quantum field theory, is a rational function whose singularities and factorization properties encode a rich underlying combinatorial structure. We define and study a broad generalization of such wavefunctions that can be associated to any lattice. We obtain these wavefunctions as the Laplace transform of a polyhedral fan, the universe fan, whose cones are defined by positivity conditions reflecting a notion of causality in the lattice, and we describe its face lattice. In the matroid case, the universe fan projects to the nested set fan, and the wavefunctions we define recover the matroid amplitudes introduced by Lam as residues. Moreover, in the case relevant for physics, the positivity conditions give a novel way to study the wavefunction, and we show how it is related to the cosmological polytopes of Arkani-Hamed, Benincasa, Postnikov. Finally, we study refinements of the universe fan induced by piecewise linear (tropical) functions. The resulting subdivisions project to refinements of the nested set fan and correspond dually to blow-ups of matroid polytopes, generalizing the cosmohedron polytope.

Central limit theorem for the sine-$β$ point process at $β\le 2$
The purpose of this paper is to establish the analogue of the Soshnikov Central Limit Theorem for the sine-$β$ process at $β\le 2$. We consider regularized additive functionals, which correspond to 1-Sobolev regular functions $f(x/R)$, in the limit $R\to\infty$. Their convergence to the Gaussian distribution with respect to the Kolmogorov-Smirnov metric at the rate $(\ln R)^{-1/2}$ is established. The proof is based on the convergence of the circular $β$-ensemble to the sine-$β$ process, which was shown by Killip and Stoiciu. We find a convenient bound for the Laplace transforms of additive functionals under the circular $β$-ensemble, which holds under the scaling limit, suggested by Killip and Stoiciu. Further, we show that the additive functionals under the circular $β$-ensemble with $n$ particles converge to the gaussian distribution as $n\to\infty$ for all $1/2$-Sobolev regular functions for $β\le 2$, as was conjectured by Lambert. Finally, in order to prove the limit theorem for the circular $β$-ensemble we derive the connection between expectations of multiplicative functionals and the Jack measures, which generalizes the connection between the circular unitary ensemble and the Schur measures given by Gessel's theorem.

Matroids and amplitudes
In the 1990s, Kita--Yoshida and Cho--Matsumoto introduced intersection forms on the twisted (co)homologies of hyperplane arrangement complements. We give a closed combinatorial formula for these intersection pairings. We show that these intersection pairings are obtained from (continuous and discrete) Laplace transforms of subfans of the Bergman fan of the associated matroid. We compute inverses of these intersection pairings, allowing us to identify (variants of) these intersection forms with the contravariant form of Schechtman--Varchenko, and the bilinear form of Varchenko. Building on parallel joint work with C. Eur, we define a notion of scattering amplitudes for matroids. We show that matroid amplitudes satisfy locality and unitarity, and recover biadjoint scalar amplitudes in the case of the complete graphic matroid. We apply our formulae for twisted intersection forms to deduce old and new formulae for scattering amplitudes.

Edge universality of $β$-additions through Dunkl operators
It is well known that the edge limit of Gaussian/Laguerre Beta ensembles is given by Airy($β$) point process. We prove an universality result that this also holds for a general class of additions of Gaussian and Laguerre ensembles. In order to make sense of $β$-addition, we introduce type A Bessel function as the characteristic function of our matrix ensemble following the line of Gorin-Marcus, Benaych Georges-Cuenca-Gorin. Then we extract its moment information through the action of Dunkl operators, a class of differential operators originated from special function theory. We do the action explicitly on the Bessel generating functions of our additions, and after the asymptotic analysis, we obtain certain limiting functional in terms of conditional Brownian bridges of the Laplace transform of Airy($β$), which is universal up to proper rescaling among all our additions.

About the Hardy-Ramanujan partition function asymptotics
The Hardy-Ramanujan partition function asymptotics is a famous result in the asymptotics of combinatorial sequences. It was originally derived using complex analysis and number-theoretic ideas by Hardy and Ramanujan. It was later re-derived by Paul Erdős using real analytic methods. Later still, D.J.~Newman used just the usual Hayman saddle-point approach, ubiquitous in asymptotic analysis. Fristedt introduced a probabilistic approach, which was further extended by Dan Romik, for restricted partition functions. Our perspective is that the Laplace transform changes the essentially algebraic generating function into an exponential form. Using this, we carry out the exercise of deriving the leading order asymptotics, following the Fristedt-Romik approach. We also give additional examples of the Laplace transform method.

Tournaments and random walks
We study the relationship between tournaments and random walks. This connection was first observed by Erdős and Moser. Winston and Kleitman came close to showing that $S_n=Θ(4^n/n^{5/2})$. Building on this, and works by Takács, these asymptotic bounds were confirmed by Kim and Pittel. In this work, we verify Moser's conjecture that $S_n\sim C4^n/n^{5/2}$, using limit theory for integrated random walk bridges. Moreover, we show that $C$ can be described in terms of random walks. Combining this with a recent proof and number-theoretic description of $C$ by the second author, we obtain an analogue of Louchard's formula, for the Laplace transform of the squared Brownian excursion/Airy area measure. Finally, we describe the scaling limit of random score sequences, in terms of the Kolmogorov excursions, studied recently by Bär, Duraj and Wachtel. Our results can also be interpreted as answering questions related to a class of random polymers, which began with influential work of Sinaĭ. From this point of view, our methods yield the precise asymptotics of a persistence probability, related to the pinning/wetting models from statistical physics, that was estimated up to constants by Aurzada, Dereich and Lifshits, as conjectured by Caravenna and Deuschel.

Cumulant expansion for counting Eulerian orientations
An Eulerian orientation is an orientation of the edges of a graph such that every vertex is balanced: its in-degree equals its out-degree. Counting Eulerian orientations corresponds to the crucial partition function in so-called ``ice-type models'' in statistical physics and is known to be hard for general graphs. For all graphs with good expansion properties and degrees larger than $\log^{8} n$, we derive an asymptotic expansion for this count that approximates it to precision $O(n^{-c})$ for arbitrary large $c$, where $n$ is the number of vertices. The proof relies on a new tail bound for the cumulant expansion of the Laplace transform, which is of independent interest.

Large deviations for the $q$-deformed polynuclear growth
Published in Ann. Probab. 53 (4), 1223-1286, (July 2025) • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we study large time large deviations for the height function $\mathfrak{h}(x,t)$ of the $q$-deformed polynuclear growth introduced in ABW22 [arXiv:2108.06018]. We show that the upper-tail deviations have speed $t$ and derive an explicit formula for the rate function $Φ_+(μ)$. On the other hand, we show that the lower-tail deviations have speed $t^2$ and express the corresponding rate function $Φ_-(μ)$ in terms of a variational problem. Our analysis relies on distributional identities between the height function $\mathfrak{h}$ and two important measures on the set of integer partitions: the Poissonized Plancherel measure and the cylindric Plancherel measure. Following a scheme developed in DT21 [arXiv:1910.09271], we analyze a Fredholm determinant representation for the $q$-Laplace transform of $\mathfrak{h}(x,t)$, from which we extract exact Lyapunov exponents and through inversion the upper-tail rate function $Φ_+$. The proof of the lower-tail large deviation principle is more subtle and requires several novel ideas which combine classical asymptotic results for the Plancherel measure and log-concavity properties of Schur polynomials. Techniques we develop to characterize the lower-tail are rather flexible and have the potential to generalize to other solvable growth models.

Exponential Mixing Via Additive Combinatorics
We prove that the geodesic flow on a geometrically finite locally symmetric space of negative curvature is exponentially mixing with respect to the Bowen-Margulis-Sullivan measure. The approach is based on constructing a suitable anisotropic Banach space on which the infinitesimal generator of the flow admits an essential spectral gap. A key step in the proof involves estimating certain oscillatory integrals against the Patterson-Sullivan measure. For this purpose, we prove a general result of independent interest asserting that the Fourier transform of measures on $\mathbb{R}^d$ that do not concentrate near proper affine hyperplanes enjoy polynomial decay outside of a sparse set of frequencies. As an intermediate step, we show that the $L^q$-dimension ($1<q\leq \infty$) of iterated self-convolutions of such measures tend towards that of the ambient space. Our analysis also yields that the Laplace transform of the correlation function of smooth observables extends meromorphically to the entire complex plane in the convex cocompact case and to a strip of explicit size beyond the imaginary axis in the case the manifold admits cusps.

Laplace transform of the $x-y$ symplectic transformation formula in Topological Recursion
Published in Commun. Number Theory Phys. 17 4 (2023) • View PublicationBIB
The functional relation coming from the $x-y$ symplectic transformation of Topological Recursion has a lot of applications, for instance it is the higher order moment-cumulant relation in free probability or can be used to compute intersection numbers on the moduli space of complex curves. We derive the Laplace transform of this functional relation, which has a very nice and compact form as a formal power series in $\hbar$. We apply the Laplace transformed formula to the Airy curve and the Lambert curve.

Random walks with drift inside a pyramid: convergence rate for the survival probability
Published • View PublicationBIB
We consider multidimensional random walks in pyramids, which by definition are cones formed by finite intersections of half-spaces. The main object of interest is the survival probability $\mathbb{P}(τ>n)$, $τ$ denoting the first exit time from a fixed pyramid. When the drift belongs to the interior of the cone, the survival probability sequence converges to the non-exit probability $\mathbb{P}(τ=\infty)$, which is positive. In this note, we quantify the speed of convergence, and prove that the exponential rate of convergence may be computed by means of a certain min-max of the Laplace transform of the random walk increments. We illustrate our results with various examples.

Components and Cycles of Random Mappings
Each connected component of a mapping $\{1,2,...,n\}\rightarrow\{1,2,...,n\}$ contains a unique cycle. The largest such component can be studied probabilistically via either a delay differential equation or an inverse Laplace transform. The longest such cycle likewise admits two approaches: we find an (apparently new) density formula for its length. Implications of a constraint -- that exactly one component exists -- are also examined. For instance, the mean length of the longest cycle is $(0.7824...)\sqrt n$ in general, but for the special case, it is $(0.7978...)\sqrt n$, a difference of less than $2\%$.

Polyharmonic functions and random processes in cones
We investigate polyharmonic functions associated to Brownian motion and random walks in cones. These are functions which cancel some power of the usual Laplacian in the continuous setting and of the discrete Laplacian in the discrete setting. We show that polyharmonic functions naturally appear while considering asymptotic expansions of the heat kernel in the Brownian case and in lattice walk enumeration problems. We provide a method to construct general polyharmonic functions through Laplace transforms and generating functions in the continuous and discrete cases, respectively. This is done by using a functional equation approach.
Positivity Certificates via Integral Representations
Published • View PublicationBIB
Complete monotonicity is a strong positivity property for real-valued functions on convex cones. It is certified by the kernel of the inverse Laplace transform. We study this for negative powers of hyperbolic polynomials. Here the certificate is the Riesz kernel in Garding's integral representation. The Riesz kernel is a hypergeometric function in the coefficients of the given polynomial. For monomials in linear forms, it is a Gel'fand-Aomoto hypergeometric function, related to volumes of polytopes. We establish complete monotonicity for sufficiently negative powers of elementary symmetric functions. We also show that small negative powers of these polynomials are not completely monotone, proving one direction of a conjecture by Scott and Sokal.

Yang-Baxter random fields and stochastic vertex models
Bijectivization refines the Yang-Baxter equation into a pair of local Markov moves which randomly update the configuration of the vertex model. Employing this approach, we introduce new Yang-Baxter random fields of Young diagrams based on spin $q$-Whittaker and spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions. We match certain scalar Markovian marginals of these fields with (1) the stochastic six vertex model; (2) the stochastic higher spin six vertex model; and (3) a new vertex model with pushing which generalizes the $q$-Hahn PushTASEP introduced recently by Corwin-Matveev-Petrov (arXiv:1811.06475). Our matchings include models with two-sided stationary initial data, and we obtain Fredholm determinantal expressions for the $q$-Laplace transforms of the height functions of all these models. Moreover, we also discover difference operators acting diagonally on spin $q$-Whittaker or (stable) spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions.

On the distribution of the hitting time for the N-urn Ehrenfest model
Published in Statistics and Probability Letters, 157, 108625, 11pp (2020) • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we consider the N-urn Ehrenfest model. By utilizing an auxiliary continuous-time Markov chain, we obtain the explicit formula for the Laplace transform of the hitting time from a single state to a set A of states where A satisfies some symmetric properties. After obtaining the Laplace transform, we are able to compute the high-order moments(especially, variance) for the hitting time.

Random polymers via orthogonal Whittaker and symplectic Schur functions
This thesis deals with some $(1+1)$-dimensional lattice path models from the KPZ universality class: the directed random polymer with inverse-gamma weights (known as log-gamma polymer) and its zero temperature degeneration, i.e. the last passage percolation model, with geometric or exponential waiting times. We consider three path geometries: point-to-line, point-to-half-line, and point-to-line with paths restricted to stay in a half-plane. Through exact formulas, we establish new connections between integrable probabilistic models and the ubiquitous Whittaker and Schur functions. More in detail, via the use of A. N. Kirillov's geometric Robinson-Schensted-Knuth (RSK) correspondence, we compute the Laplace transform of the polymer partition functions in the above geometries in terms of orthogonal Whittaker functions. In the case of the first two geometries we also provide multiple contour integral formulas. For the corresponding last passage percolation problems, we obtain new formulas in terms of symplectic Schur functions, both directly via RSK on polygonal arrays and via zero temperature limit from the log-gamma polymer formulas. As scaling limits of the point-to-line and point-to-half-line models with exponential waiting times, we derive Sasamoto's Fredholm determinant formula for the GOE Tracy-Widom distribution, as well as the one-point marginal distribution of the ${\rm Airy}_{2\to1}$ process.
