Airy limit for the Jack process and topological expansion
For every $β>0$, we establish multi-time soft-edge moment convergence for the Jack--Plancherel process, a discrete $β$-analogue of Dyson Brownian motion. The limiting moments admit an absolutely convergent expansion in terms of nonnegative Brownian bridges decorated by pairs of equal and opposite jumps. At equal times, we identify this limit with the joint Laplace statistics of the Airy$_β$ process for $β\geq1$. The same Brownian expansion yields an asymptotic $β$-topological expansion of the marginal $b$-conjecture and, at $β=2$, an explicit nonnegative formula for the Witten--Kontsevich intersection numbers.

Optimality of Random Regular Graphs in Sparse Network Designs
The problems of designing sparse networks arise frequently in resource allocation and operations research. In production systems, for example, sparse process flexibility designs are used to handle uncertain demand effectively: the goal is to construct the sparsest bipartite graph between supply and demand that still achieves an expected fulfilled demand comparable to that of a fully flexible system. In middle-mile transportation, sparse delivery-route subgraphs that sustain large matchings after random node deletions help reduce delivery costs; here, the goal is to design the sparsest graph whose maximum matching size remains comparable to that of the fully connected graph under node deletions. The design of sparse networks has been studied extensively, with state-of-the-art results providing order-wise optimal designs for both bipartite and unipartite networks (Chen et al., 2015; Feng et al., 2024). However, identifying designs that achieve the sharp theoretical limit -- where the average degree asymptotically matches the lower bound of any graph to achieve a given loss level, has remained open. In this paper, we prove that the random regular graph achieves this sharp optimal condition in both bipartite and unipartite settings. Numerical experiments further validate this optimality. Our results highlight a practical guideline for sparse flexibility networks: designs that combine degree regularity with low edge correlations can achieve optimal performance under uncertainty.

Law of Large Numbers for continuous $N$-particle ensembles at fixed temperature
In this paper, we find necessary and sufficient conditions for the Law of Large Numbers of averaged empirical measures of $N$-particle ensembles, in terms of the asymptotics of their Bessel generating functions, in the fixed temperature regime. This settles an open problem posed by Benaych-Georges, Cuenca and Gorin. For one direction, we use the moment method through Dunkl operators, and for the other we employ a special case of the formula of Chapuy--Dolega for the generating function of infinite constellations. As applications, we prove that the LLN for $θ$-sums and $θ$-corners of random matrices are given by the free convolution and free projection, respectively, regardless of the value of inverse temperature parameter $θ$. We also prove the LLN for a time-slice of the $θ$-Dyson Brownian motion.

A Proof of The Changepoint Detection Threshold Conjecture in Preferential Attachment Models
We investigate the problem of detecting and estimating a changepoint in the attachment function of a network evolving according to a preferential attachment model on $n$ vertices, using only a single final snapshot of the network. Bet et al.~\cite{bet2023detecting} show that a simple test based on thresholding the number of vertices with minimum degrees can detect the changepoint when the change occurs at time $n-Ω(\sqrt{n})$. They further make the striking conjecture that detection becomes impossible for any test if the change occurs at time $n-o(\sqrt{n}).$ Kaddouri et al.~\cite{kaddouri2024impossibility} make a step forward by proving the detection is impossible if the change occurs at time $n-o(n^{1/3}).$ In this paper, we resolve the conjecture affirmatively, proving that detection is indeed impossible if the change occurs at time $n-o(\sqrt{n}).$ Furthermore, we establish that estimating the changepoint with an error smaller than $o(\sqrt{n})$ is also impossible, thereby confirming that the estimator proposed in Bhamidi et al.~\cite{bhamidi2018change} is order-optimal.

Edge universality of $β$-additions through Dunkl operators
It is well known that the edge limit of Gaussian/Laguerre Beta ensembles is given by Airy($β$) point process. We prove an universality result that this also holds for a general class of additions of Gaussian and Laguerre ensembles. In order to make sense of $β$-addition, we introduce type A Bessel function as the characteristic function of our matrix ensemble following the line of Gorin-Marcus, Benaych Georges-Cuenca-Gorin. Then we extract its moment information through the action of Dunkl operators, a class of differential operators originated from special function theory. We do the action explicitly on the Bessel generating functions of our additions, and after the asymptotic analysis, we obtain certain limiting functional in terms of conditional Brownian bridges of the Laplace transform of Airy($β$), which is universal up to proper rescaling among all our additions.

Rectangular matrix additions in low and high temperatures
We study the addition of two random independent $M\times N$ rectangular random matrices with invariant distributions in two limit regimes, where the parameter beta (inverse temperature) goes to infinity and zero. In low temperature regime the random singular values of the sum concentrate at deterministic points, while in high temperature regime we obtain a Law of Large Numbers for the empirical measures. As a consequence, we deliver a duality between low and high temperatures. Our proof uses the type BC Bessel function as characteristic function of rectangular matrices, and through the analysis of this function we introduce a new family of cumulants, that linearize the addition in high temperature limit, and degenerate to the classical or free cumulants in special cases.

Random sorting networks: edge limit
Published • View PublicationBIB
A sorting network is a shortest path from $12\dots n$ to $n\dots 21$ in the Cayley graph of the symmetric group $\mathfrak S_n$ spanned by adjacent transpositions. The paper computes the edge local limit of the uniformly random sorting networks as $n\to\infty$. We find the asymptotic distribution of the first occurrence of a given swap $(k,k+1)$ and identify it with the law of the smallest positive eigenvalue of a $2k\times 2k$ aGUE (an aGUE matrix has purely imaginary Gaussian entries that are independently distributed subject to skew-symmetry). Next, we give two different formal definitions of a spacing -- the time distance between the occurrence of a given swap $(k,k+1)$ in a uniformly random sorting network. Two definitions lead to two different expressions for the asymptotic laws expressed in terms of derivatives of Fredholm determinants.

The planted matching problem: Sharp threshold and infinite-order phase transition
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study the problem of reconstructing a perfect matching $M^*$ hidden in a randomly weighted $n\times n$ bipartite graph. The edge set includes every node pair in $M^*$ and each of the $n(n-1)$ node pairs not in $M^*$ independently with probability $d/n$. The weight of each edge $e$ is independently drawn from the distribution $\mathcal{P}$ if $e \in M^*$ and from $\mathcal{Q}$ if $e \notin M^*$. We show that if $\sqrt{d} B(\mathcal{P},\mathcal{Q}) \le 1$, where $B(\mathcal{P},\mathcal{Q})$ stands for the Bhattacharyya coefficient, the reconstruction error (average fraction of misclassified edges) of the maximum likelihood estimator of $M^*$ converges to $0$ as $n\to \infty$. Conversely, if $\sqrt{d} B(\mathcal{P},\mathcal{Q}) \ge 1+ε$ for an arbitrarily small constant $ε>0$, the reconstruction error for any estimator is shown to be bounded away from $0$ under both the sparse and dense model, resolving the conjecture in [Moharrami et al. 2019, Semerjian et al. 2020]. Furthermore, in the special case of complete exponentially weighted graph with $d=n$, $\mathcal{P}=\exp(λ)$, and $\mathcal{Q}=\exp(1/n)$, for which the sharp threshold simplifies to $λ=4$, we prove that when $λ\le 4-ε$, the optimal reconstruction error is $\exp\left( - Θ(1/\sqrtε) \right)$, confirming the conjectured infinite-order phase transition in [Semerjian et al. 2020].

Testing correlation of unlabeled random graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study the problem of detecting the edge correlation between two random graphs with $n$ unlabeled nodes. This is formalized as a hypothesis testing problem, where under the null hypothesis, the two graphs are independently generated; under the alternative, the two graphs are edge-correlated under some latent node correspondence, but have the same marginal distributions as the null. For both Gaussian-weighted complete graphs and dense Erdős-Rényi graphs (with edge probability $n^{-o(1)}$), we determine the sharp threshold at which the optimal testing error probability exhibits a phase transition from zero to one as $n\to \infty$. For sparse Erdős-Rényi graphs with edge probability $n^{-Ω(1)}$, we determine the threshold within a constant factor. The proof of the impossibility results is an application of the conditional second-moment method, where we bound the truncated second moment of the likelihood ratio by carefully conditioning on the typical behavior of the intersection graph (consisting of edges in both observed graphs) and taking into account the cycle structure of the induced random permutation on the edges. Notably, in the sparse regime, this is accomplished by leveraging the pseudoforest structure of subcritical Erdős-Rényi graphs and a careful enumeration of subpseudoforests that can be assembled from short orbits of the edge permutation.

The Planted Matching Problem: Phase Transitions and Exact Results
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study the problem of recovering a planted matching in randomly weighted complete bipartite graphs $K_{n,n}$. For some unknown perfect matching $M^*$, the weight of an edge is drawn from one distribution $P$ if $e \in M^*$ and another distribution $Q$ if $e \notin M^*$. Our goal is to infer $M^*$, exactly or approximately, from the edge weights. In this paper we take $P=\exp(λ)$ and $Q=\exp(1/n)$, in which case the maximum-likelihood estimator of $M^*$ is the minimum-weight matching $M_{\text{min}}$. We obtain precise results on the overlap between $M^*$ and $M_{\text{min}}$, i.e., the fraction of edges they have in common. For $λ\ge 4$ we have almost perfect recovery, with overlap $1-o(1)$ with high probability. For $λ< 4$ the expected overlap is an explicit function $α(λ) < 1$: we compute it by generalizing Aldous' celebrated proof of the $ζ(2)$ conjecture for the un-planted model, using local weak convergence to relate $K_{n,n}$ to a type of weighted infinite tree, and then deriving a system of differential equations from a message-passing algorithm on this tree.
