Two Littlewood identities for fully inhomogeneous spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric rational functions
Fully inhomogeneous spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric rational functions $F_λ$ arise as partition functions of certain path configurations in the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ higher spin six vertex models. They are multiparameter generalizations of the classical Hall-Littlewood symmetric polynomials. We establish two new generalizations of the classical Littlewood identity, where we express a weighted sum of $F_λ$'s over all partitions $λ$ as a product of the Littlewood kernel and another simple product in one case, and a product of the Littlewood kernel and a Pfaffian in the other case. As a corollary we obtain a novel Littlewood identity for Hall-Littlewood symmetric polynomials. We also elaborate on the newly established connection between the fully inhomogeneous spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric rational functions $F_λ$ and the modified Robbins polynomials, the latter being multivariate generating functions for alternating sign matrices. This connection allowed us to discover the two generalizations of the Littlewood identity and we provide a bijection between the underlying combinatorial models in the case where $λ$ is strictly decreasing.

Free boundary q-Whittaker and Hall-Littlewood processes
We study the free boundary $q$-Whittaker and Hall--Littlewood processes, two probability measures on sequences of partitions. We prove that a certain observable of the free boundary $q$-Whittaker process exhibits a $(q,t)$ symmetry after a random shift, generalizing a previous result of Imamura, Mucciconi, and Sasamoto, and an extension of that result due to the first author. Our proof is completely different, and as part of our proof, we find contour integral formulas for the free boundary $q$-Whittaker process. We also show a matching between certain observables in the free boundary Hall--Littlewood process and a quasi-open six vertex model, and explain how work of Finn and Vanicat gives an evaluation of a bounded sum over skew Hall--Littlewood functions as a rectangular Koornwinder polynomial.

Limit shapes for Domain-Wall (colored) vertex models
We study partition functions with domain-wall like boundary conditions for path models issued from colored vertex models. These models display an arctic phenomenon, as attested by numerical simulations. We show that the colored vertex model is equivalent to a certain single-color ``colorblind" vertex model. In a special case of the weights for the colorblind touching paths, we derive the arctic curve using a bijective sliding map to non-intersecting paths, for which arctic curves were previously derived using the tangent method. The resulting arctic curves are only piecewise analytic, as in the known non-free fermion cases of Six vertex model with domain-wall boundaries and its relatives. We also prove a shear phenomenon, that some portions of the arctic curve are sheared versions of the analytic continuation of other portions, as already observed in the uniformly weighted Six and Twenty vertex models.
Refined enumeration of planar Eulerian orientations
We address the enumeration of Eulerian orientations of 4-valent planar maps according to three parameters: the number of vertices, the number of alternating vertices (having in/out/in/out incident edges), and the number of clockwise oriented faces. This is a refinement of the six vertex model studied by Kostov, then Zinn-Justin and Elvey Price, where one only considers the first two parameters. Via a bijection of Ambjorn and Budd, our problem is equivalent to the enumeration of Eulerian partial orientations of general planar maps, counted by the number of edges, the number of undirected edges, and the number of vertices. We first derive from combinatorial arguments a system of functional equations characterising the associated trivariate series $Q(t,ω,v)$. We then derive from this system a compact characterisation of this series. We use it to determine $Q(t,ω,v)$ in three two-parameter cases. The first two cases correspond to setting the variable $ω$ counting alternating vertices (or undirected edges after the AB bijection) to $0$ or $1$: when $ω=0$ we count Eulerian orientations of general planar maps by edges and vertices, and when $ω=1$ we count Eulerian orientations of quartic maps by vertices and clockwise faces. The final forms of these two series, namely $Q(t,0, v)$ and $Q(t,1,v)$, refine those obtained by the authors in an earlier paper for $v=1$. The third case that we solve, namely $v=1$ (but $ω$ arbitrary), is the standard six-vertex model, for which we provide a new proof of the formula of Elvey Price and Zinn-Justin involving Jacobi theta functions. This new derivation remains purely in the world of formal power series, not relying on complex analysis. Our results also use a more direct approach to solving the functional equations, in contrast to the guess and check approaches used in previous work.

Factorial Fock free fermions
We use a double shifted power analog of free fermion fields to introduce current operators, Hamiltonians, and vertex operators which are deformed by two families of parameters and satisfy analogous formulas to the classical case. We show that the deformed half vertex operators correspond to the row transfer matrices of a solvable six vertex model recently given by Naprienko [arXiv:2301.12110], which under a specialization yields the factorial Schur functions (up to a reindexing of parameters). As a consequence, we show that under the boson-fermion correspondence using our deformed half vertex operators, the natural basis (under this specialization) maps to the double factorial Schur functions. Furthermore, the image of the natural basis vectors are tau function solutions to the 2D Toda lattice.

Factorization of rational six vertex model partition functions
Published in Nuclear Physics B, 1009 (2024), 116743 • View PublicationBIB
We show factorization formulas for a class of partition functions of rational six vertex model. First we show factorization formulas for partition functions under triangular boundary. Further, by combining the factorization formulas with the explicit forms of the generalized domain wall boundary partition functions by Belliard-Pimenta-Slavnov, we derive factorization formulas for partition functions under trapezoid boundary which can be viewed as a generalization of triangular boundary. We also discuss an application to emptiness formation probabilities under trapezoid boundary which admit determinant representations.

The characterization of an Alternating Sign Matrix using a triplet
Published in Math.J.Okayama.Univ., vol.67(2025), PP.101-131 • Search Publication
Alternating Sign Matrix(ASM for short) is a square matrix which is consist of 0, 1 and -1. In this paper, we characterize an ASM by showing a bijection between alternating sign matrix and six vertex model, and a bijection between six vertex model and height function. In order to show these bijections, we define a triplet $({a}_{i, j}, {c}_{i, j}, {r}_{i, j})$ for each entry of an ASM. We also define a \textsl{track} for each index of height function, and state more properties of height function.

Mallows Product Measure
Published in Electron. J. Probab. 29: 1-33 (2024) • View PublicationBIB
Q-exchangeable ergodic distributions on the infinite symmetric group were classified by Gnedin-Olshanski (2012). In this paper, we study a specific linear combination of the ergodic measures and call it the Mallows product measure. From a particle system perspective, the Mallows product measure is a reversible stationary blocking measure of the infinite-species ASEP and it is a natural multi-species extension of the Bernoulli product blocking measures of the one-species ASEP. Moreover, the Mallows product measure can be viewed as the universal product blocking measure of interacting particle systems coming from random walks on Hecke algebras. For the random infinite permutation distributed according to the Mallows product measure we have computed the joint distribution of its neighboring displacements, as well as several other observables. The key feature of the obtained formulas is their remarkably simple product structure. We project these formulas to ASEP with finitely many species, which in particular recovers a recent result of Adams-Balazs-Jay, and also to ASEP(q,M). Our main tools are results of Gnedin-Olshanski about ergodic Mallows measures and shift-invariance symmetries of the stochastic colored six vertex model discovered by Borodin-Gorin-Wheeler and Galashin.

Periodic $q$-Whittaker and Hall-Littlewood processes
We study the periodic $q$-Whittaker and Hall-Littlewood processes, two probability measures on sequences of partitions. We prove that a certain observable of the periodic $q$-Whittaker process exhibits a $(q,u)$ symmetry after a random shift, generalizing a previous result of Imamura, Mucciconi, and Sasamoto who showed a matching between the periodic Schur and $q$-Whittaker measures, and also give a vertex model formulation of their result. As part of our proof of the $(q,u)$ symmetry, we obtain contour integral formulas for both the periodic $q$-Whittaker and Hall-Littlewood processes. We also show a matching between certain observables in the periodic Hall-Littlewood process and in a quasi-periodic stochastic six vertex model after a suitable random shift, and discuss a limit to the stationary periodic stochastic six vertex model.

Boundary current fluctuations for the half space ASEP and six vertex model
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study fluctuations of the current at the boundary for the half space asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) and the height function of the half space six vertex model at the boundary at large times. We establish a phase transition depending on the asymptotic density of particles at the boundary, with GSE and GOE limits as well as the Baik--Rains crossover distribution near the critical point. This was previously known for half space last passage percolation, and recently established for the half space log-gamma polymer and KPZ equation in the groundbreaking work of Imamura, Mucciconi, and Sasamoto. The proof uses the underlying algebraic structure of these models in a crucial way to obtain exact formulas. In particular, we show a relationship between the half space six vertex model and a half space Hall--Littlewood measure with two boundary parameters, which is then matched to a free boundary Schur process via a new identity of symmetric functions. Fredholm Pfaffian formulas are established for the half space ASEP and six vertex model, indicating a hidden free fermionic structure.

Free Fermionic Schur Functions
Published • View PublicationBIB
We introduce a new family of Schur functions $s_{λ/μ;a,b}(x/y)$ that depend on two sets of variables and two sequences of parameters. These free fermionic Schur functions have a hidden symmetry between the two sets of parameters that allows us to generalize and unify factorial, supersymmetric, and dual Schur functions from literature. We then prove that these functions satisfy the supersymmetric Cauchy identity $$ \sum_λs_{λ;a,b}(x/y)\widehat{s}_{λ;a,b}(z/w) = \prod_{i,j}\frac{1+y_iz_j}{1-x_iz_j}\frac{1+x_iw_j}{1-y_iw_j}, $$ where $\widehat{s}_{λ;a,b}(z/w) = s_{λ';b',a'}(w/z)$ are the dual functions. Our approach is based on the integrable six vertex model with free fermionic Boltzmann weights. We show that these weights satisfy the \textit{refined Yang-Baxter equation}, which allows us to prove well-known properties of Schur functions: supersymmetry, combinatorial descriptions, the Jacobi-Trudi identity, the Nägelsbach-Kostka formula, the Giambelli formula, the Ribbon formula, the Weyl determinant formula, the Berele-Regev factorization, dual Cauchy identity, the flagged determinant formula, and many others. We emphasize that many of these results are novel even in special cases.

Arctic curves of the 20V model on a triangle

We apply the Tangent Method of Colomo and Sportiello to predict the arctic curves of the Twenty Vertex model with specific domain wall boundary conditions on a triangle, in the Disordered phase, leading to a phase diagram with six types of frozen phases and one liquid one. The result relies on a relation to the Six Vertex model with domain wall boundary conditions and suitable weights, as a consequence of integrability. We also perform the exact refined enumeration of configurations.

Rewriting History in Integrable Stochastic Particle Systems
Published • View PublicationBIB
Many integrable stochastic particle systems in one space dimension (such as TASEP - Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process - and its $q$-deformation, the $q$-TASEP) remain integrable if we equip each particle with its own speed parameter. In this work, we present intertwining relations between Markov transition operators of particle systems which differ by a permutation of the speed parameters. These relations generalize our previous works (arXiv:1907.09155, arXiv:1912.06067), but here we employ a novel approach based on the Yang-Baxter equation for the higher spin stochastic six vertex model. Our intertwiners are Markov transition operators, which leads to interesting probabilistic consequences. First, we obtain a new Lax-type differential equation for the Markov transition semigroups of homogeneous, continuous-time versions of our particle systems. Our Lax equation encodes the time evolution of multipoint observables of the $q$-TASEP and TASEP in a unified way, which may be of interest for the asymptotic analysis of multipoint observables of these systems. Second, we show that our intertwining relations lead to couplings between probability measures on trajectories of particle systems which differ by a permutation of the speed parameters. The conditional distribution for such a coupling is realized as a "rewriting history" random walk which randomly resamples the trajectory of a particle in a chamber determined by the trajectories of the neighboring particles. As a byproduct, we construct a new coupling for standard Poisson processes on the positive real half-line with different rates.

Shift invariance of half space integrable models
Published • View PublicationBIB
We formulate and establish symmetries of certain integrable half space models, analogous to recent results on symmetries for models in a full space. Our starting point is the colored stochastic six vertex model in a half space, from which we obtain results on the asymmetric simple exclusion process, as well as for the beta polymer through a fusion procedure which may be of independent interest. As an application, we establish a distributional identity between the absorption time in a type $B$ analogue of the oriented swap process and last passage times in a half space, establishing the Baik--Ben Arous--Péché phase transition for the absorption time. The proof uses Hecke algebras and integrability of the six vertex model through the Yang--Baxter and reflection equations.

Irreversible Markov Dynamics and Hydrodynamics for KPZ States in the Stochastic Six Vertex Model
Published • View PublicationBIB
We introduce a family of Markov growth processes on discrete height functions defined on the 2-dimensional square lattice. Each height function corresponds to a configuration of the six vertex model on the infinite square lattice. We focus on the stochastic six vertex model corresponding to a particular two-parameter family of weights within the ferroelectric regime. It is believed (and partially proven, see Aggarwal, arXiv:2004.13272) that the stochastic six vertex model displays nontrivial pure (i.e., translation invariant and ergodic) Gibbs states of two types, KPZ and liquid. These phases have very different long-range correlation structure. The Markov processes we construct preserve the KPZ pure states in the full plane. We also show that the same processes put on the torus preserve arbitrary Gibbs measures for generic six vertex weights (not necessarily in the ferroelectric regime). Our dynamics arise naturally from the Yang-Baxter equation for the six vertex model via its bijectivisation, a technique first used in Bufetov-Petrov (arXiv:1712.04584). The dynamics we construct are irreversible; in particular, the height function has a nonzero average drift. In each KPZ pure state, we explicitly compute the average drift (also known as the current) as a function of the slope. We use this to analyze the hydrodynamics of a non-stationary version of our process acting on quarter plane stochastic six vertex configurations. The fixed-time limit shapes in the quarter plane model were obtained in Borodin-Corwin-Gorin (arXiv:1407.6729).
Free Fermion Six Vertex Model: Symmetric Functions and Random Domino Tilings
Published • View PublicationBIB
Our work deals with symmetric rational functions and probabilistic models based on the fully inhomogeneous six vertex (ice type) model satisfying the free fermion condition. Two families of symmetric rational functions $F_λ,G_λ$ are defined as certain partition functions of the six vertex model, with variables corresponding to row rapidities, and the labeling signatures $λ=(λ_1\ge \ldots\ge λ_N)\in \mathbb{Z}^N$ encoding boundary conditions. These symmetric functions generalize Schur symmetric polynomials, as well as some of their variations, such as factorial and supersymmetric Schur polynomials. Cauchy type summation identities for $F_λ,G_λ$ and their skew counterparts follow from the Yang-Baxter equation. Using algebraic Bethe Ansatz, we obtain a double alternant type formula for $F_λ$ and a Sergeev-Pragacz type formula for $G_λ$. In the spirit of the theory of Schur processes, we define probability measures on sequences of signatures with probability weights proportional to products of our symmetric functions. We show that these measures can be viewed as determinantal point processes, and we express their correlation kernels in a double contour integral form. We present two proofs: The first is a direct computation of Eynard-Mehta type, and the second uses non-standard, inhomogeneous versions of fermionic operators in a Fock space coming from the algebraic Bethe Ansatz for the six vertex model. We also interpret our determinantal processes as random domino tilings of a half-strip with inhomogeneous domino weights. In the bulk, we show that the lattice asymptotic behavior of such domino tilings is described by a new determinantal point process on $\mathbb{Z}^{2}$, which can be viewed as an doubly-inhomogeneous generalization of the extended discrete sine process.

Stable spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions, combinatorial identities, and half-space Yang-Baxter random field
Stable spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric polynomials labeled by partitions were recently introduced by Borodin and Wheeler in the context of higher spin six vertex models, which are one-parameter deformation of the Hall-Littlewood polynomials. We present a new combinatorial definition for the stable spin Hall-Littlewood polynomials, and derive a series of new combinatorial identities, including the skew Littlewood identity, refined Cauchy identity and refined Littlewood identity. Employing bijectivisation of summation identities, Bufetov and Petrov introduced local stochastic moves based on the Yang-Baxter equation. Combining the skew Littlewood identity and these moves, we introduce the half-space Yang-Baxter random field for stable spin Hall-Littlewood polynomials. We match the lengths of the partitions in this field with a new dynamic version of stochastic six vertex model in the half-quadrant, which can be mapped to a dynamic version of discrete-time interacting particle system on the half-line with an open boundary.

Refined Littlewood identity for spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric rational functions
Published • View PublicationBIB
Fully inhomogeneous spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric rational functions $F_λ$ are multiparameter deformations of the classical Hall-Littlewood symmetric polynomials and can be viewed as partition functions in $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ higher spin six vertex models. We obtain a refined Littlewood identity expressing a weighted sum of $F_λ$'s over all partitions $λ$ with even multiplicities as a certain Pfaffian. This Pfaffian can be derived as a partition function of the six vertex model in a triangle with suitably decorated domain wall boundary conditions. The proof is based on the Yang-Baxter equation.

Refined Cauchy identity for spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric rational functions
Published • View PublicationBIB
Fully inhomogeneous spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric rational functions $\mathsf{F}_λ$ arise in the context of $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ higher spin six vertex models, and are multiparameter deformations of the classical Hall-Littlewood symmetric polynomials. We obtain a refined Cauchy identity expressing a weighted sum of the product of two $\mathsf{F}_λ$'s as a determinant. The determinant is of Izergin-Korepin type: it is the partition function of the six vertex model with suitably decorated domain wall boundary conditions. The proof of equality of two partition functions is based on the Yang-Baxter equation. We rewrite our Izergin-Korepin type determinant in a different form which includes one of the sets of variables in a completely symmetric way. This determinantal identity might be of independent interest, and also allows to directly link the spin Hall-Littlewood rational functions with (the Hall-Littlewood particular case of) the interpolation Macdonald polynomials. In a different direction, a Schur expansion of our Izergin-Korepin type determinant yields a deformation of Schur symmetric polynomials. In the spin-$\frac12$ specialization, our refined Cauchy identity leads to a summation identity for eigenfunctions of the ASEP (Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process), a celebrated stochastic interacting particle system in the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class. This produces explicit integral formulas for certain multitime probabilities in ASEP.
