Modular Nahm Sums for the Inverse Cartan Matrix of Type $D_r$
For $r\geq 3$ we denote by $\mathcal{C}(D_r)$ the Cartan matrix of type $D_r$. Recently, Sun and Wang conjectured a Rogers--Ramanujan type identity for the Nahm sum associated with $\mathcal{C}(D_r)^{-1}$ and the zero vector. They further conjecture that there exist $r-1$ companion modular Nahm sums associated with nonzero vectors. We partially prove this conjecture by constructing $\lfloor (r+4)/2\rfloor$ modular Nahm sums for $\mathcal{C}(D_r)^{-1}$. To prove their modularity, we utilize the method of Bailey pairs to establish various Rogers--Ramanujan type identities. In particular, we confirm their conjectural identity.

Nahm sum identities for Cartan matrices of type $D_k$
Around 2007, Warnaar proved four identities related to Nahm sums associated with twice the inverse of the Cartan matrix of type $D_k$. Three of these had been conjectured by Flohr, Grabow, and Koehn, while special cases of two of the identities were first conjectured in 1993 by Kedem, Klassen, McCoy, and Melzer. Warnaar's proof relies on a multi-sum identity from Andrews' proof of the Andrews-Gordon identities. We give a new proof of all four identities using the theory of Bailey pairs. Furthermore, we establish a parametric generalization of two of the identities and provide two distinct proofs of this generalization.

Classification of Zamolodchikov periodic cluster algebras
Zamolodchikov periodicity is a property of certain discrete dynamical systems and was one of the primary motivations for the creation of cluster algebras. It was first observed by Zamolodchikov in his study of thermodynamic Bethe ansatz, initially for simply-laced Dynkin diagrams. It was proved by Keller to hold for tensor products of two Dynkin diagrams, and further shown by Galashin and Pylyavskyy to hold for pairs of commuting simply-laced Cartan matrices of finite type, which Stembridge classified in his study of admissible $W$-cells. We prove that the Zamolodchikov periodic cluster algebras are in bijection with pairs of commuting (not necessarily reduced or simply-laced) Cartan matrices of finite type. We fully classify all such pairs into 29 infinite families and 14 exceptional types in addition to the 6 infinite families and 11 exceptional types in Stembridge's classification, and show that all of these families can be derived from simply-laced types through two operations preserving Zamolodchikov periodicity, folding and taking transpose. Our work holds connections to Kazhdan--Lusztig theory, and our main theorem helps classify all nonnegative $W$-cells for products of two dihedral groups, $W = I_2(p)\times I_2(q)$.

Structure constants of Peterson Schubert calculus
We give an explicit, positive, and type-uniform formula for all equivariant structure constants of the Peterson Schubert calculus in arbitrary Lie types, using only the Cartan matrix of the corresponding root system $Φ$. As an application, we derive a type-uniform formula for the mixed $Φ$-Eulerian numbers.
Rowmotion and Echelonmotion
Given a linear extension $σ$ of a finite poset $R$, we consider the permutation matrix indexing the Schubert cell containing the Cartan matrix of $R$ with respect to $σ$. This yields a bijection $\mathrm{Ech}_σ\colon R\to R$ that we call echelonmotion; it is the inverse of the Coxeter permutation studied by Klász, Marczinzik, and Thomas. Those authors proved that echelonmotion agrees with rowmotion when $R$ is a distributive lattice. We generalize this result to semidistributive lattices. In addition, we prove that every trim lattice has a linear extension with respect to which echelonmotion agrees with rowmotion. We also show that echelonmotion on an Eulerian poset (with respect to any linear extension) is an involution. Finally, we initiate the study of echelon-independent posets, which are posets for which echelonmotion is independent of the chosen linear extension. We prove that a lattice is echelon-independent if and only if it is semidistributive. Moreover, we show that echelon-independent connected posets are bounded and have semidistributive MacNeille completions.

Modularity of tadpole Nahm sums in ranks 4 and 5
Around 2016, Calinescu, Milas and Penn conjectured that the rank $r$ Nahm sum associated with the $r\times r$ tadpole Cartan matrix is modular, and they provided a proof for $r=2$. The $r=3$ case was recently resolved by Milas and Wang. We prove this conjecture for the next cases $r=4,5$. We also prove the modularity of some companion Nahm sums by establishing the corresponding Rogers--Ramanujan type identities. A key new ingredient in our proofs is some rank reduction formulas which allow us to decompose higher rank tadpole Nahm sums to mixed products of some lower rank Nahm-type sums and theta functions.

A positive Siegel theorem: Dynkin friezes and positive Mordell-Schinzel
We determine the number of positive integral points on $n$-dimensional affine varieties associated to arbitrary $n \times n$ generalized Cartan matrices. An application to the theory of cluster algebras and combinatorics is the resolution of the Fontaine-Plamondon conjecture, which says that there are exactly $4400$ and $26952$ positive integral friezes of type $E_7$ and $E_8$ respectively. An application to number theory refines and generalizes theorems of Mohanty, Mordell, and Schinzel to the positive integers and higher dimensions by exhibiting examples of Diophantine equations $xyz = G(x, y)$ and $xyzw = G(x, y, z)$ of every degree greater than $3$ with infinitely many positive integral solutions.

Expander representations of quivers
We propose a definition of expander representations of quivers, generalizing dimension (or linear algebra) expanders, as a qualitative refinement of slope stability. We prove existence of uniform expander representations for any wild quiver over an algebraically closed base field, using the concept of general subrepresentations and spectral properties of Cartan matrices.
High-dimensional expanders from Kac--Moody--Steinberg groups
Published in European Journal of Combinatorics Volume 126, May 2025, 104131 • View PublicationBIB
High-dimensional expanders are a generalization of the notion of expander graphs to simplicial complexes and give rise to a variety of applications in computer science and other fields. We provide a general tool to construct families of bounded degree high-dimensional spectral expanders. Inspired by the work of Kaufman and Oppenheim, we use coset complexes over quotients of Kac-Moody-Steinberg groups of rank $d+1$, $d$-spherical and purely $d$-spherical. We prove that infinite families of such quotients exist provided that the underlying field is of size at least 4 and the Kac-Moody-Steinberg group is 2-spherical, giving rise to new families of bounded degree high-dimensional expanders. In the case the generalized Cartan matrix we consider is affine, we recover the construction of O'Donnell and Pratt from 2022, (and thus also the one of Kaufman and Oppenheim) by considering Chevalley groups as quotients of affine Kac-Moody-Steinberg groups. Moreover, our construction applies to the case where the root system is of type $\tilde{G}_2$, a case that was not covered in earlier works.

$q$-Coxeter matrix and $q$-Cartan matrix for a homogeneous bound quiver
The aim of this paper is to introduce the concept of $q$-Coxeter transformation and $q$-Coxeter matrix for a connected acyclic bound quiver $(Q, I)$ with a homogeneous relations $I$, then to establish the relationship between $q$-Coxeter matrix and $q$-Cartan matrix of $(Q, I)$.

Locally free Caldero-Chapoton functions via reflections
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study the reflections of locally free Caldero-Chapoton functions associated to representations of Geiss-Leclerc-Schröer's quivers with relations for symmetrizable Cartan matrices. We prove that for rank 2 cluster algebras, non-initial cluster variables are expressed as locally free Caldero-Chapoton functions of locally free indecomposable rigid representations. Our method gives rise to a new proof of the locally free Caldero-Chapoton formulas obtained by Geiss-Leclerc-Schröer in Dynkin cases. For general acyclic skew-symmetrizable cluster algebras, we prove the formula for any non-initial cluster variable obtained by almost sink and source mutations.

Combinatorics of vertex operators and deformed $W$-algebra of type D$(2,1;α)$
Published • View PublicationBIB
We consider sets of screening operators with fermionic screening currents. We study sums of vertex operators which formally commute with the screening operators assuming that each vertex operator has rational contractions with all screening currents with only simple poles. We develop and use the method of $qq$-characters which are combinatorial objects described in terms of deformed Cartan matrix. We show that each qq-character gives rise to a sum of vertex operators commuting with screening operators and describe ways to understand the sum in the case it is infinite. We discuss combinatorics of the qq-characters and their relation to the q-characters of representations of quantum groups. We provide a number of explicit examples of the qq-characters with the emphasis on the case of $D(2,1;α)$. We describe a relationship of the examples to various integrals of motion.

The isomorphism problem for Schubert varieties
Schubert varieties in the full flag variety of Kac-Moody type are indexed by elements of the corresponding Weyl group. We give a practical criterion for when two such Schubert varieties (from potentially different flag varieties) are isomorphic, in terms of the Cartan matrix and reduced words for the indexing Weyl group elements. As a corollary, we show that two such Schubert varieties are isomorphic if and only if there is an isomorphism between their integral cohomology rings that preserves the Schubert basis.

Q-data and representation theory of untwisted quantum affine algebras
Published • View PublicationBIB
For a complex finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we introduce the notion of Q-datum, which generalizes the notion of a Dynkin quiver with a height function from the viewpoint of Weyl group combinatorics. Using this notion, we develop a unified theory describing the twisted Auslander-Reiten quivers and the twisted adapted classes introduced in [O.-Suh, J. Algebra, 2019] with an appropriate notion of the generalized Coxeter elements. As a consequence, we obtain a combinatorial formula expressing the inverse of the quantum Cartan matrix of $\mathfrak{g}$, which generalizes the result of [Hernandez-Leclerc, J. Reine Angew. Math., 2015] in the simply-laced case. We also find several applications of our combinatorial theory of Q-data to the finite-dimensional representation theory of the untwisted quantum affine algebra of $\mathfrak{g}$. In particular, in terms of Q-data and the inverse of the quantum Cartan matrix, (i) we give an alternative description of the block decomposition results due to [Chari-Moura, Int. Math. Res. Not., 2005] and [Kashiwara-Kim-O.-Park, arXiv:2003.03265], (ii) we present a unified (partially conjectural) formula of the denominators of the normalized R-matrices between all the Kirillov-Reshetikhin modules, and (iii) we compute the invariants $Λ(V,W)$ and $Λ^\infty(V, W)$ introduced in [Kashiwara-Kim-O.-Park, Compos. Math., 2020] for each pair of simple modules $V$ and $W$.

Quivers with additive labelings: classification and algebraic entropy
Published • View PublicationBIB
We show that Zamolodchikov dynamics of a recurrent quiver has zero algebraic entropy only if the quiver has a weakly subadditive labeling, and conjecture the converse. By assigning a pair of generalized Cartan matrices of affine type to each quiver with an additive labeling, we completely classify such quivers, obtaining $40$ infinite families and $13$ exceptional quivers. This completes the program of classifying Zamolodchikov periodic and integrable quivers.

The classification of Zamolodchikov periodic quivers
Published in Amer. J. Math, 141(2):447-484, 2019 • View PublicationBIB
Zamolodchikov periodicity is a property of certain discrete dynamical systems associated with quivers. It has been shown by Keller to hold for quivers obtained as products of two Dynkin diagrams. We prove that the quivers exhibiting Zamolodchikov periodicity are in bijection with pairs of commuting Cartan matrices of finite type. Such pairs were classified by Stembridge in his study of $W$-graphs. The classification includes products of Dynkin diagrams along with four other infinite families, and eight exceptional cases. We provide a proof of Zamolodchikov periodicity for all four remaining infinite families, and verify the exceptional cases using a computer program.

Chip firing on Dynkin diagrams and McKay quivers
Published • View PublicationBIB
Two classes of avalanche-finite matrices and their critical groups (integer cokernels) are studied from the viewpoint of chip-firing/sandpile dynamics, namely, the Cartan matrices of finite root systems and the McKay-Cartan matrices for finite subgroups G of general linear groups. In the root system case, the recurrent and superstable configurations are identified explicitly and are related to minuscule dominant weights. In the McKay-Cartan case for finite subgroups of the special linear group, the cokernel is related to the abelianization of the subgroup G. In the special case of the classical McKay correspondence, the critical group and the abelianization are shown to be isomorphic.
Root subsystems of rank 2 hyperbolic root systems
Let $Δ$ be a rank 2 hyperbolic root system. Then $Δ$ has generalized Cartan matrix $H(a,b)= \left(\begin{smallmatrix} ~2 & -b\\ -a & ~2 \end{smallmatrix}\right)$ indexed by $a,b\in\mathbb{Z}$ with $ab\geq 5$. If $a\neq b$, then $Δ$ is non-symmetric and is generated by one long simple root and one short simple root; whereas if $a= b$, $Δ$ is symmetric and is generated by two long simple roots. We prove that if $a\neq b$, then $Δ$ contains an infinite family of symmetric rank 2 hyperbolic root subsystems $H(k,k)$ for certain $k\geq 3$, generated by either two short or two long simple roots. We also prove that $Δ$ contains non-symmetric rank 2 hyperbolic root subsystems $H(a',b')$, for certain $a',b'\in\mathbb{Z}$ with $a'b'\geq 5$. One of our tools is a characterization of the types of root subsystems that are generated by a subset of roots. We classify these types of subsystems in rank 2 hyperbolic root systems.

A categorification of non-crossing partitions
Published • View PublicationBIB
We present a categorification of the non-crossing partitions given by crystallographic Coxeter groups. This involves a category of certain bilinear lattices, which are essentially determined by a symmetrisable generalised Cartan matrix together with a particular choice of a Coxeter element. Examples arise from Grothendieck groups of hereditary artin algebras.

On the Poincaré series of Kac-Moody Lie algebras
In this paper, we discuss the Poincaré series of Kac-Moody Lie algebras, especially for indefinite type. Firstly, we compute the Poincaré series of certain indefinite Kac-Moody Lie algebras whose Cartan matrices have the same type of $2\times 2$ principal sub-matrices. Secondly, we show that the Poincaré series of Kac-Moody Lie algebras satisfy certain interesting properties. Lastly we give some applications of the Poincaré series to other fields. Particularly we construct some counter examples to a conjecture of Victor Kac\cite{Kac_85} and a conjecture of Chapavalov, Leites and Stekolshchik\cite{CDR_10}.
