The Graph Algebra I: Representation-Theoretic Structure
The paper studies the graph algebra whose monomial basis is naturally indexed by simple graphs on a fixed set of vertices. This algebra is at the same time the algebra of pseudo-Boolean functions on the Boolean cube and a natural object of algebraic combinatorics, related to the Boolean lattice of subsets of the edge set of the complete graph.
The main aim of the paper is to study two compatible representation-theoretic structures on this algebra: the action of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_2$, arising from the operators of adding and deleting one edge, and the action of the pair group $S_n^{(2)}$, induced by the renumbering of vertices. It is proved that the graph algebra with this $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-action is isomorphic to a tensor power of the standard two-dimensional $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-module, and on this basis its decomposition into irreducible $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-modules is obtained. Primitive spaces, that is, the kernels of the edge-deletion operator on rank components, are also described, and it is shown that they have a natural interpretation in terms of two-row Specht modules.
It is then established that the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-action commutes with the action of the pair group. It follows that the space of graph invariants also inherits the structure of an $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-module. Using Schur--Weyl duality, primitive invariants are described through the fixed parts of the restrictions of two-row Specht modules from the full symmetric group on the edge set to the pair group. As a consequence, the classical enumeration of non-isomorphic graphs by the number of edges receives a representation-theoretic refinement: the orbital components entering the Burnside--Polya formula decompose into natural primitive contributions associated with the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-structure and two-row Specht modules.
The Terwilliger algebra for the distance-regular graphs with valency three
In this paper, we discuss a family of highly regular graphs, said to be distance-regular. We are particularly interested in the distance-regular graphs with valency three. It is known that there exist exactly 13 such graphs. Let $Γ$ denote a distance-regular graph with vertex set $X$. For any vertex $x \in X$, the corresponding Terwilliger algebra $T=T(x)$ is generated by the adjacency algebra $M$ of $Γ$ and the dual adjacency algebra $M^*=M^*(x)$ of $Γ$ with respect to $x$. It is known that the algebra $T$ is semisimple. By construction, the vector space $V=\mathbb{C}^X$ is a module for $T$, said to be standard. In this paper we have the following goal. For each of the 13 distance-regular graphs $Γ$ with valency three, we will decompose the standard module $V$ into a direct sum of irreducible $T$-modules. Using this information, we will work out the dimension of $T$.
An equitable partition for the distance-regular graph of the bilinear forms
We consider a type of distance-regular graph $Γ=(X, \mathcal R)$ called a bilinear forms graph. We assume that the diameter $D$ of $Γ$ is at least $3$. Fix adjacent vertices $x,y \in X$. In our first main result, we introduce an equitable partition of $X$ that has $6D-2$ subsets and the following feature: for every subset in the equitable partition, the vertices in the subset are equidistant to $x$ and equidistant to $y$. This equitable partition is called the $(x,y)$-partition of $X$. By definition, the subconstituent algebra $T=T(x)$ is generated by the Bose-Mesner algebra of $Γ$ and the dual Bose-Mesner algebra of $Γ$ with respect to $x$. As we will see, for the $(x,y)$-partition of $X$ the characteristic vectors of the subsets form a basis for a $T$-module $U=U(x,y)$. In our second main result, we decompose $U$ into an orthogonal direct sum of irreducible $T$-modules. This sum has five summands: the primary $T$-module and four irreducible $T$-modules that have endpoint one.
We show that every irreducible $T$-module with endpoint one is isomorphic to exactly one of the nonprimary summands.
Every $Q$-polynomial distance-regular graph is sharp over $\mathbb{R}$
Let $Γ$ denote a distance-regular graph with vertex set $X$ and diameter $D \geq 3$. Fix a vertex $x \in X$. Let the field $\mathbb{F}$ be either $\mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{C}$. Let $\operatorname{Mat}_X(\mathbb{F})$ denote the $\mathbb{F}$-algebra of matrices whose rows and columns are indexed by $X$ and all entries in $\mathbb{F}$. The Terwilliger algebra $T^\mathbb{F} = T^\mathbb{F}(x)$ is the subalgebra of $\operatorname{Mat}_X(\mathbb{F})$ generated by the adjacency matrix $A$ of $Γ$ and the dual primitive idempotents $\{E_i^*\}_{i=0}^D$ of $Γ$ with respect to $x$. Let $\{E_i\}_{i=0}^D$ denote the primitive idempotents of $A$. Assume that the ordering $\{E_i\}_{i=0}^D$ is $Q$-polynomial. Let $W$ denote an irreducible $T^\mathbb{F}$-module. We say that $W$ is sharp over $\mathbb{F}$ whenever $\dim (E_r^* W) = 1$, where $r$ is the endpoint of $W$. It is known, by Nomura and Terwilliger (2008), that every irreducible $T^\mathbb{C}$-module is sharp. In this paper, we prove that every irreducible $T^\mathbb{R}$-module is sharp. Once this is established, we obtain four additional results: (i) if $W$ is an irreducible $T^\mathbb{R}$-module, then its complexification $W^\mathbb{C}= W \otimes_{\mathbb{R}} \mathbb{C}$ is an irreducible $T^\mathbb{C}$-module; (ii) two irreducible $T^\mathbb{R}$-modules $W_1$ and $W_2$ are isomorphic if and only if their complexifications $W_1^\mathbb{C}$ and $W_2^\mathbb{C}$ are isomorphic as $T^\mathbb{C}$-modules; (iii) if $\bigoplus_{i=1}^h \operatorname{Mat}_{n_i}(\mathbb{C})$ is the Wedderburn decomposition of $T^\mathbb{C}$, then $\bigoplus_{i=1}^h \operatorname{Mat}_{n_i}(\mathbb{R})$ is the Wedderburn decomposition of $T^\mathbb{R}$; (iv) each of the subalgebras $E_1^* T E_1^*$, $E_1 T E_1$, $E_D^* T E_D^*$, and $E_D T E_D$ is commutative and every element of these algebras is a symmetric matrix.
Decompositions of Chow rings of direct sums of matroids
We prove two dual recursive decompositions as a graded $\underline{\mathrm{CH}}(M)\otimes \underline{\mathrm{CH}}(N)$-module of the Chow ring $\underline{\mathrm{CH}}(M\oplus N)$ of the direct sum of matroids. We use this to obtain a decomposition of $\underline{\mathrm{CH}}(M\oplus N)$ into irreducible $\underline{\mathrm{CH}}(M) \otimes \underline{\mathrm{CH}}(N)$-modules. The result implies a new recursive formula for the Eulerian numbers. Similarly, we find a recursive decomposition of the augmented Chow ring $\mathrm{CH}(M \oplus N)$ into $\mathrm{CH}(M)\otimes \mathrm{CH}(N)$-modules, generalizing some of the results of arXiv:2002.03341. We prove analogous decompositions of (augmented) Chow polynomials of weakly ranked posets in the sense of arXiv:2411.04070.
Structure and geometry of the tableaux algebra
We study the monoid algebra ${}_{n}\mathcal{T}_{m}$ of semistandard Young tableaux, which coincides with the Gelfand--Tsetlin semigroup ring $\mathcal{GT}_{n}$ when $m = n$. Among others, we show that this algebra is commutative, Noetherian, reduced, Koszul, and Cohen--Macaulay. We provide a complete classification of its maximal ideals and compute the topology of its maximal spectrum. Furthermore, we classify its irreducible modules and provide a faithful semisimple representation. We also establish that its associated variety coincides with a toric degeneration of certain partial flag varieties constructed by Gonciulea--Lakshmibai. As an application, we show that this algebra yields injective embeddings of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$-crystals, extending a result of Bossinger--Torres.
A skew group ring of $\mathbb Z/2\mathbb Z$ over $U(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$, Leonard triples and odd graphs
We employ a skew group ring of $\mathbb Z/2\mathbb Z$ over $U(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ to construct modules over the universal Bannai--Ito algebra. In addition, we give the conditions under which the defining generators act as Leonard triples on the resulting modules. As a combinatorial realization, we establish an algebra homomorphism from the universal Bannai--Ito algebra onto the Terwilliger algebra of an odd graph. This homomorphism provides a unified description of Leonard triples on all irreducible modules over the Terwilliger algebra.
The nucleus of the Grassmann graph $J_q(N,D)$
Let $\mathbb{F}_q$ denote a finite field with $q$ elements. Let $N$ and $D$ denote integers with $N>D \ge 1$. Let $\mathcal{V}$ denote an $N$-dimensional vector space over $\mathbb{F}_q$. The Grassmann graph $J_q(N,D)$ is the graph with vertex set $X$ that consists of the $D$-dimensional subspaces of $\mathcal{V}$. Two vertices are adjacent whenever their intersection has dimension $D-1$. Fix a vertex $x$ in $X$. The Terwilliger algebra $T=T(x)$ of $J_q(N,D)$ with respect to $x$ is the subalgebra of $\mathrm{Mat}_X(\mathbb{C})$ generated by the adjacency matrix $A$ and the dual adjacency matrix $A^* = A^*(x)$. It is known that an irreducible $T$-module $W$ has certain parameters called the endpoint $r$, the dual endpoint $t$, and the diameter $d$. The displacement of $W$ is defined to be the integer $r+t-D+d$. Let $\mathcal{N}=\mathcal{N}(x)$ denote the span of all irreducible $T$-modules with displacement 0. We call $\mathcal{N}$ the nucleus of $J_q(N,D)$ with respect to $x$. In this paper, we study the structure of $\mathcal{N}$. Specifically, we present a formula for the dimension of $\mathcal{N}$, construct two explicit bases for $\mathcal{N}$, and describe the action of $A$ and $A^*$ on these bases. To obtain these results, we use the projective geometry $P_q(N)$, consisting of all subspaces of $\mathcal{V}$, as a key tool.
Semisimple algebras related to immaculate tableaux
Given a direct sum $A$ of full matrix algebras, if there is a combinatorial interpretation associated with both the dimension of $A$ and the dimensions of the irreducible $A$-modules, then this can be thought of as providing an analogue of the famous Frobenius-Young identity $n! = \sum_{λ\vdash n} ( f^λ )^{2}$ derived from the semisimple structure of the symmetric group algebra $\mathbb{C}S_{n}$, letting $f^λ$ denote the number of Young tableaux of partition shape $λ\vdash n$. By letting $g^α$ denote the number of standard immaculate tableaux of composition shape $α\vDash n$, we construct an algebra $\mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n}$ with a semisimple structure such that $\dim \mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n} = \sum_{α\vDash n} (g^α)^{2}$ and such that $\mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n} $ contains an isomorphic copy of $\mathbb{C}S_{n}$. We bijectively prove a recurrence for $\dim \mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n}$ so as to construct a basis of $\mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n}$ indexed by permutation-like objects that we refer to as immacutations. We form a basis $\mathcal{B}_{n}$ of $\mathbb{C}\mathcal{I}_{n}$ such that $\mathbb{C} \mathcal{B}_n$ has the structure of a monoid algebra in such a way so that $\mathcal{B}_n$ is closed under the multiplicative operation of $\mathbb{C} \mathcal{I}_n$, yielding a monoid structure on the set of order-$n$ immacutations.
2-Homogeneous bipartite distance-regular graphs and the quantum group $U^\prime_q(\mathfrak{so}_6)$
We consider a 2-homogeneous bipartite distance-regular graph $Γ$ with diameter $D \geq 3$. We assume that $Γ$ is not a hypercube nor a cycle. We fix a $Q$-polynomial ordering of the primitive idempotents of $Γ$. This $Q$-polynomial ordering is described using a nonzero parameter $q \in \mathbb C$ that is not a root of unity. We investigate $Γ$ using an $S_3$-symmetric approach. In this approach one considers $V^{\otimes 3} = V \otimes V \otimes V$ where $V$ is the standard module of $Γ$. We construct a subspace $Λ$ of $V^{\otimes 3}$ that has dimension $\binom{D+3}{3}$, together with six linear maps from $Λ$ to $Λ$. Using these maps we turn $Λ$ into an irreducible module for the nonstandard quantum group
$U^\prime_q(\mathfrak{so}_6)$ introduced by Gavrilik and Klimyk in 1991.
The Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$ and the hypercubes
We describe a relationship between the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$ and the hypercube graphs. Consider the $\mathbb C$-algebra $P$ of polynomials in four commuting variables. We turn $P$ into an $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$-module on which each element of $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$ acts as a derivation. Then $P$ becomes a direct sum of irreducible $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$-modules
$P = \sum_{N\in \mathbb N} P_N$, where $P_N$ is the $N$th homogeneous component of $P$. For $N\in \mathbb N$ we construct some additional $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$-modules ${\rm Fix}(G)$ and $T$. For these modules the underlying vector space is described as follows. Let $X$ denote the vertex set of the hypercube $H(N,2)$, and let $V$ denote the $\mathbb C$-vector space with basis $X$. For the automorphism group $G$ of $H(N,2)$, the action of $G$ on $X$ turns $V$ into a $G$-module. The vector space $V^{\otimes 3} = V \otimes V \otimes V$ becomes a $G$-module such that $g(u \otimes v \otimes w)= g(u) \otimes g(v) \otimes g(w)$ for $g\in G$ and $u,v,w \in V$. The subspace ${\rm Fix}(G)$
of $V^{\otimes 3}$ consists of the vectors in $V^{\otimes 3}$ that are fixed by every element in $G$.
Pick $\varkappa \in X$. The corresponding subconstituent algebra $T$ of $H(N,2)$ is the subalgebra of ${\rm End}(V)$ generated by the adjacency map $\sf A$ of $H(N,2)$ and the dual adjacency map ${\sf A}^*$ of $H(N,2)$ with respect to $\varkappa$. In our main results, we turn ${\rm Fix}(G)$ and $T$ into $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$-modules, and display $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$-module isomorphisms $P_N \to {\rm Fix}(G) \to T$.
We describe the $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$-modules $P_N$, ${\rm Fix}(G)$, $T$ from multiple points of view.
Mullineux map: $d$-balanced partitions and $d$-runner matrices
Let $1<d<e$ be two coprime integers and let $m_e$ denote the Mullineux map, which for $e$ prime describes tensor products of the irreducible modules of symmetric groups with the sign in characteristic $e$. We prove that if $λ$ is an $e$-regular partition such that $d$ divides the arm length of any rim hook of $λ$ of size divisible by $e$, then $m_e(λ)'$ is a partition such that the arm length of any of its rim hooks of size divisible by $e$ is congruent to $-1$ modulo $d$. We introduce a new parameter for partitions called the $d$-runner matrix and show that if $λ$ is as above, then the $d$-runner matrices of $λ$ and $m_e(λ)'$ agree. This determines $m_e(λ)'$ uniquely. We approach the whole problem combinatorially and take advantage of a new Abacus Mullineux Algorithm introduced in this paper. We also establish equivalent descriptions of the above partitions which provide an alternative version of the main result about the Mullineux map, which becomes particularly strong when $d=2$.
The Terwilliger algebra of digraphs I -- Hamming digraph $H^*(d,3)$
In the present paper, we define the Terwilliger algebra of digraphs. Then, we determine the irreducible modules of the Terwilliger algebra of a Hamming digraph $H^*(d,3)$. As is well known, the representation of the Terwilliger algebra of a binary Hamming graph $H(d,2)$ is closely related to that of the Lie algebra $\mathit{sl}_2(\mathbb{C})$. We show that in the case of $H^*(d,3)$, it is related to that of the Lie algebra $\mathit{sl}_3(\mathbb{C})$. We also identify the Terwilliger algebra of $H^*(d,3)$ as the $d$ symmetric tensor algebra of ${\rm Mat}_3(\mathbb{C})$.
Diagrammatic Categories which arise from Representation Graphs
The main result of this paper utilizes the representation graph of a group $G$, $R(V,G)$, and gives a general construction of a diagrammatic category $\mathbf{Dgrams}_{R(V,G)}$. The proof of the main theorem shows that, given explicit criteria, there is an equivalence of categories between a quotient category of $\mathbf{Dgrams}_{R(V,G)}$ and a full subcategory of $G-\textbf{mod}$ with objects being the tensor products of finitely many irreducible $G$-modules.
The $S_3$-symmetric $q$-Onsager algebra and its Lusztig automorphisms
The $q$-Onsager algebra $O_q$ is defined by two generators and two relations, called the $q$-Dolan/Grady relations. In 2019, Baseilhac and Kolb introduced two automorphisms of $O_q$, now called the Lusztig automorphisms. Recently, we introduced a generalization of $O_q$ called the $S_3$-symmetric $q$-Onsager algebra $\mathbb O_q$. The algebra $\mathbb O_q$ has six distinguished generators, said to be standard. The standard $\mathbb O_q$-generators can be identified with the vertices of a regular hexagon, such that nonadjacent generators commute and adjacent generators satisfy the $q$-Dolan/Grady relations. In the present paper we do the following: (i) for each standard $\mathbb O_q$-generator we construct an automorphism of $\mathbb O_q$ called a Lusztig automorphism; (ii) we describe how the six Lusztig automorphisms of $\mathbb O_q$ are related to each other; (iii) we describe what happens if a
finite-dimensional irreducible $\mathbb O_q$-module is twisted by a Lusztig automorphism; (iv) we give a detailed example involving an irreducible
$\mathbb O_q$-module with dimension 5.
Robustness of Erdős--Ko--Rado theorems on permutations and perfect matchings
The Erdős--Ko--Rado (EKR) theorem and its generalizations can be viewed as classifications of maximum independent sets in appropriately defined families of graphs, such as the Kneser graph $K(n,k)$. In this paper, we investigate the independence number of random spanning subraphs of two other families of graphs whose maximum independent sets satisfy an EKR-type characterization: the derangement graph on the set of permutations in $\mathrm{Sym}(n)$ and the derangement graph on the set $\mathcal{M}_{n}$ of perfect matchings in the complete graph $\mathcal{K}_{2n}$. In both cases, we show there is a sharp threshold probability for the event that the independence number of a random spanning subgraph is equal to that of the original graph. As a useful tool to aid our computations, we obtain a Friedgut--Kalai--Naor (FKN) type theorem on sparse boolean functions whose domain is the vertex set of $\mathcal{M}_{n}$. In particular, we show that boolean functions whose Fourier transforms are highly concentrated on the first two irreducible modules in the $\mathrm{Sym}(2n)$ module $\mathbb{C}[\mathcal{M}_{n}]$, is close to being the characteristic function of a union of maximum independent sets in the derangement graph on perfect matchings.

We study the lattice of submonoids of the uniform block permutation monoid containing the symmetric group (which is its group of units). We prove that this lattice is distributive under union and intersection by relating the submonoids containing the symmetric group to downsets in a new partial order on integer partitions. Furthermore, we show that the sizes of the $\mathscr{J}$-classes of the uniform block permutation monoid are sums of squares of dimensions of irreducible modules of the monoid algebra.
Boundary minimal models and the Rogers-Ramanujan identities
We determine when the irreducible modules $L(c_{p, q}, h_{m, n})$ over the simple Virasoro vertex algebras $\operatorname{Vir}_{p, q}$, where $p, q \ge 2$ are relatively prime with $0 < m < p$ and $0 < n < q$, are classically free. It turns out this only happens with the boundary minimal models, i.e., with the irreducible modules over $\operatorname{Vir}_{2, 2s + 1}$ for $s \in \mathbb{Z}_+$. We thus obtain a complete description of the classical limits of these modules in terms of the jet algebra of the corresponding Zhu $C_2$-algebra. The Andrews-Gordon generalization of the Rogers-Ramanujan identities is used in the proof, and our results in turn provide a natural interpretation of these identities.

The Terwilliger algebras of asymmetric association schemes of rank $3$, whose nonidentity relations correspond to doubly regular tournaments, are shown to have thin irreducible modules, and to always be of dimension $4k+9$ for some positive integer $k$. It is determined that asymmetric rank $3$ association schemes of order up to $23$ are determined up to combinatorial isomorphism by the list of their complex Terwilliger algebras at each vertex, but this no longer true at order $27$. To distinguish order $27$ asymmetric rank $3$ association schemes, it is shown using computer calculations that the list of rational Terwilliger algebras at each vertex will suffice.
Generating functions for fixed points of the Mullineux map
Mullineux defined an involution on the set of $e$-regular partitions of $n$. When $e=p$ is prime, these partitions label irreducible symmetric group modules in characteristic $p$. Mullineux's conjecture, since proven, was that this ``Mullineux map" described the effect on the labels of taking the tensor product with the one-dimensional signature representation. Counting irreducible modules fixed by this tensor product is related to counting irreducible modules for the alternating group $A_n$ in prime characteristic. In 1991, Andrews and Olsson worked out the generating function counting fixed points of Mullineux's map when $e=p$ is an odd prime (providing evidence in support of Mullineux's conjecture). In 1998, Bessenrodt and Olsson counted the fixed points in a $p$-block of weight $w$. We extend both results to arbitrary $e$, and determine the corresponding generating functions. When $e$ is odd but not prime the extension is immediate, while $e$ even requires additional work and the results, which are different, have not appeared in the literature.
