Universality in the algebra and topology of cographs
A finite simple graph $G$ is called a cograph if it does not contain the path on four vertices $P_4$ as an induced subgraph. It is classically known that the family of cographs are well-quasi-ordered by the induced subgraph relation \cite{D}. In preceding work of Knudsen and the third author \cite[Theorem 7.2]{KR}, it was shown that this well-quasi-order statement admitted a categorification, which allowed those authors to prove universal finite generation statements about the homology groups of configuration spaces on cographs \cite[Theorem 1.5]{KR}. In this work, we expand \cite[Theorem 7.2]{KR} to be compatible with the family of polynomial rings on the vertex sets of cographs. By consequence, we are able to prove a number of universality results related with edge and toric ideals of these polynomial ring, partially generalizing and expanding upon work of Kahle \cite{kahle2019binomial}. We also conclude strong restrictions on the kinds of topologies that can arise from graph complexes and anchored configuration spaces associated to cographs, as well as combinatorial constraints on the possible combinatorics of hyperplane arrangements of cographs.

Unified framework for asymptotically uniform iterative construction of generalised random graphs with local constraints
We develop a unified framework for constructing combinatorial structures under local constraints. Our approach extends the configuration model for random graphs with a prescribed degree sequence, and covers many special cases, including bipartite graphs, directed graphs, oriented graphs, edge-colored (bipartite) graphs, and (directed) hypergraphs. By reformulating half-edge matching as an independent set problem in an auxiliary graph, we identify 2-uniformity, a property characterising when greedy sampling preserves asymptotic uniformity. We classify all 2-uniform graphs and show that only two classes, the configuration space and the bipartite configuration space, have unbounded independence number, enabling the asymptotic regime. Our main theorem then gives the asymptotic sampling distribution and enumeration formulae for configurations, with error terms of order $O(d_{\max}^4\log m/m+d_{\max}^2(\log m)^2/m)$ as the number of edges $m$ tends to infinity with maximum degree $d_{\max}=O(m^{1/4}/\log m)$. This settles the long-standing $O(m^{1/4-τ})$ bound (for some fixed $τ> 0$), making the critical exponent explicit. Furthermore, our theorem accommodates forbidden edges, provided that each vertex participates in at most $O(m^{1/4}/\log m)$ of them. In particular, this enables the sampling of edge-colored graphs with prescribed degree sequences for each color class by constructing the colored subgraphs one at a time.

Edge-Span Chern Algebras of Graphical Configuration Spaces
Place the vertices of a finite graph at projective points. Each edge defines a span map to $\mathrm{Gr}(2,n)$; the pulled-back Chern classes generate a graded algebra $A_G^{(n)}$. This assignment is a covariant graph functor, so the abstract graded-algebra type is a graph invariant. In ambient dimension four, the Hilbert series is incomparable with the chromatic and Tutte polynomials. On five vertices in dimension three, the $34$ graph classes yield $33$ algebra types, strictly refining both classical polynomials. For every tree $T$, we obtain a closed Hilbert-series formula depending only on $|V(T)|$ and $n$, while $A_T^{(3)}$ determines $T$ up to isomorphism. More precisely, its cubic relation data is a complete tree invariant of polynomial size. Finally, the graphical configuration space embeds as a dense open in the picture variety, and picture spaces with equal additive homology can have nonisomorphic edge-Chern algebras.

Computing stable homology representations of graph configuration spaces
Configuration spaces of graphs frequently grow factorially in complexity with the number of particles they parametrize. However, for suitable families of nested graphs $G_\bullet$ with compatible symmetric group actions, Ramos and White prove that, for fixed $k$, the rational homology of the $k$\textsuperscript{th} configuration spaces of $G_\bullet$ has multiplicity stability. In the current work, we derive the stable range and use computer algebra to determine the stable representations on homology for $k=2$ and $G_\bullet$ several families of graphs, including the complete graphs, the complete bipartite graphs on $2n$ vertices, the crown graphs on $2n$ vertices, and the complete tripartite graphs on $2n+1$ vertices. We determine the stable multiplicities for certain irreducible components in the case $k=3$ and $G_\bullet$ the complete graphs.

Noncrossing Duality and the Geometry of Positive Tropical Linear Spaces
While the positive Grassmannian is deeply understood through the rich combinatorics of plabic graphs and positroid cells, its tropical counterpart, the positive tropical Grassmannian Trop$_{>0}G(k,n)$, has lacked a comparable structural framework for general $k$. Both the global face structure of Trop$_{>0}G(k,n)$ and the internal metric geometry of the tropical linear spaces it parametrizes have remained largely uncharted. This paper develops a systematic algebraic and polyhedral foundation that resolves this gap. The engine of our framework is a fundamental tropical duality, analogous to the duality between cluster variables (or more precisely, their $u$-coordinates) and $\mathbf{g}$-vectors, pairing two families of objects introduced by the first author: the planar basis of tropical Plücker vectors and the planar cross-ratios on the positive configuration space. We prove that this duality links the fan structure of the positive tropical Grassmannian to the noncrossing fan of Santos, Stump, and Welker, yielding a global bijection between integer points of $Trop_{>0}G(k,n)$ and noncrossing tableaux. We then study how this discrete combinatorial data controls the continuous metric geometry of positive tropical linear spaces. We realize the bounded complex of an integer positive tropical linear space as the subdifferential of a central roof function on the hypersimplex, and use this realization to embed it into a dilate of the fundamental alcoved simplex. The dilation factor, and hence the geometric diameter of the complex, is governed by a single invariant, the planar kinematics ($K) weight, which we show equals the number of columns in the associated noncrossing tableau. The results of this work are applied in our parallel work on scaffolds for higher tropical Grassmannians.

Automorphisms of the boundary complex of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0, n}(\mathbb{P}^r, d)$
We compute the automorphism group of the dual complex $\mathsf{T}_{d, n}$ of the boundary divisor in the Kontsevich moduli space $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0, n}(\mathbb{P}^r, d)$. When $d \geq 2$, we find that $\mathrm{Aut}(\mathsf{T}_{d, n}) \cong \mathbb{S}_{n}$, while $\mathrm{Aut}(\mathsf{T}_{1, n}) \cong \mathbb{S}_{n + 1}$ for all $n \geq 4$. The complex $\mathsf{T}_{1, n}$ is also the dual complex of the boundary divisor in the Fulton--MacPherson compactification of the configuration space of $n$ points on $X$, if $X$ is any smooth, proper, and connected algebraic variety over $\mathbb{C}$. Following work of Massarenti, this implies that $\mathsf{T}_{1, n}$ admits automorphisms which in general do not extend to $X[n]$.

On invariant subrings of Orlik--Solomon and Varchenko--Gel'fand algebras in type A
We provide simple presentations in terms of generators and relations for the invariant subring of both the Orlik--Solomon algebra and Varchenko--Gel'fand ring of the type $A_n$ reflection arrangement acted upon by the type $A_{n-1}$ reflection group. This may be interpreted as a presentation for the cohomology of the ``mixed configuration space" of $n$ red points and one blue point. We provide increasingly refined descriptions of the invariant ring starting with the total dimension and ending with the simple presentation in terms of generators and relations.

Burnings of trees and their homologies
The problem of graph burning was firstly introduced as a model for different processes of social and network interactions. Recently, the authors of the present paper developed methods of algebraic topology for investigation of this problem. This approach is based on the new definition of burning process which excludes the possibility to choose at any moment vertex for burning from the set of vertices which are already burned at this moment. In this paper we continue to study such burning process using algebraic topology methods. We prove the result about relations between burnings of a graph and burnings of its spanning trees that is similar to the classical case. Afterwards, we describe properties of trees burnings. In particular, we prove that a burning of a tree defines a structure of a digraph on the tree and investigate this structure. We introduce and study a strong burning configuration space of a graph and new strong burning homology which are similar to burning homology defined in our previous paper, but arise from burning homomorphism.

Grouped Stirling complexes
Given a graph $G$, a configuration space of $G$ can be thought of as the set of all possible configurations of "robots" which can move throughout $G$, subject to some constraints. We introduce a type of configuration space which we call Grouped Stirling complexes, denoted by $S_{\vec r}(G)$, in which we place robots in groups subject to two constraints. First, there must be at least one robot on each vertex of $G$, and second, any two robots from the same group must be "separated by at least one full open edge" of $G$. The space $S_{\vec r}(G)$ has a closed cell structure, which means it can be built out of cells of various dimensions. Our main results show $S_{\vec r}(G)$ is path-connected, provided there are at least three groups, and determine the number of cells of $S_{\vec r}(G)$ in certain cases.

Dyck Paths, Configuration Spaces and Polytopes For Linear Nakayama algebras
We present a combinatorial model of configuration spaces and polytopes associated to the quotients of $\mathbb{C} A_n$, the path algebra of the linearly oriented $A_n$ quiver, i.e. the algebra of upper triangular matrices. These quotient algebras are known as linear Nakayama algebras. Such configuration spaces were recently introduced for more general algebras by the second author and collaborators. In this special setting, we provide elementary proofs and explicit combinatorial constructions. From a Dyck path we define three related objects: a finite-dimensional algebra, an affine algebraic variety, and a polytope. Moreover, our constructions are natural: each relation in the poset of Dyck paths gives a morphism between the corresponding objects.

Graphical composition of mapping spaces between modules of configuration-space-type
In embedding calculus, spaces of embeddings are identified with derived mapping spaces between framed Fulton-MacPherson-type modules (framed configuration spaces). Unfortunately, there are no sufficiently good algebraic models for framed Fulton-MacPherson modules that would allow us to explicitly describe the rational homotopy type of the embedding space. Recently there were several attempts to avoid dealing with the framed versions of Fulton-MacPherson modules by considering framed manifolds, e.g. embeddings modulo immersions $\overline{\mathrm{Emb}}$ in a recent paper by Fresse, Turchin and Willwacher, or embeddings with a deformation of the framing $\widetilde{\mathrm{Emb}}$ in a recent paper by the author. In both cases, the rational homotopy type of the corresponding embedding space has an explicit description in terms of graphs (hairy graph complexes). We construct a combinatorial graphical composition for the composition of embedding spaces $\widetilde{\mathrm{Emb}}$. As a step on our way, we describe the action of the coinduction functor on configuration-space-type $e_n^c$-comodules.

Asymptotic distribution of the Betti numbers of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n}$
Asymptotic normality is frequently observed in large combinatorial structures, rigorously established for many quantities such as cycles or inversions in random permutations, the number of prime factors of random integers, and various parameters of random graphs. In this paper, we investigate whether this normal limit behavior extends to the topological invariants of geometric spaces. We show that the Betti numbers of the moduli space of rational curves with $n$ marked points $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n}$ and the Fulton-MacPherson configuration space $\mathbb{P}^1[n]$ are asymptotically normally distributed. Based on numerical evidence and established log-concavity, we conjecture that the Betti numbers of the quotients of these spaces by the symmetric group $\mathbb{S}_n$ are also asymptotically normally distributed. In contrast, we provide examples of geometric spaces that do not follow this Gaussian law.

Revisiting the Nandakumar-Ramana Rao Conjecture
Published in JHRS, 2025 • Search Publication
We reprove the generalized Nandakumar-Ramana Rao conjecture for the prime case using representation ring-graded Bredon cohomology. Our approach relies solely on the $RO(C_p)$-graded cohomology of configuration spaces, viewed as a module over the $RO(C_p)$-graded Bredon cohomology of a point.

Transition Matrices between Plethystic Bases of Polysymmetric Functions via Bijective Methods
Many identities involving symmetric functions can be proved through bijective manipulations of tableaux. In this paper, we prove identities involving polysymmetric functions through bijections and sign-reversing involutions. In their paper titled "Polysymmetric functions and motivic measures of configuration spaces", Asvin G and Andrew O'Desky introduced the algebra of polysymmetric functions (PSym) which can be defined as the tensor product of copies of the symmetric functions algebra (Sym) where the $i$th tensor factor is scaled by $i$. On one hand, we can obtain bases of this algebra by taking tensor products of the bases of Sym. On the other hand, the Asvin G and Andrew O'Desky paper introduces non-pure tensor bases families $H$, $E$, $E^+$, and $P$ that we call plethystic bases. In this paper, we present combinatorial interpretations of the entries of the transition matrices between all twelve pairs of distinct plethystic bases. We also provide new interpretations for six OEIS sequences that turn up in this context.

On the quadratic complexity of subsets of $\mathbb{F}_p^n$ of bounded $\mathrm{VC_{2}}$-dimension
In prior work, we showed that subsets of $\mathbb{F}_{p}^{n}$ of $\mathrm{VC_{2}}$-dimension at most $k$ are well approximated by a union of atoms of a quadratic factor of complexity $(\ell,q)$, where the complexity $\ell$ of the linear part and the complexity $q$ of the quadratic part are both bounded in terms of $k$, $p$, and the desired level of approximation $μ$. A key tool in the proof of this result was an arithmetic regularity lemma for the Gowers $U^3$-norm by Green and Tao, which resulted in tower-type bounds (in terms of $μ^{-1}$) on both $\ell$ and $q$. In the present paper we show that for sets of bounded $\mathrm{VC}_2$-dimension, the bound on $q$ can be substantially improved. Specifically, we will prove that any set $A\subseteq G=\mathbb{F}_p^n$ of $\mathrm{VC}_2$-dimension at most $k$ is approximately equal (up to error $μ|G|$) to a union of atoms of a quadratic factor whose quadratic complexity is at most $\log_p(μ^{-k-o(1)})$, implying that the purely quadratic component of the factor partitions the group into $μ^{-k-o(1)}$ many parts. We achieve this by using our earlier result to obtain an initial quadratic factor $\mathcal{B}$, and then applying a generalization of an argument of Alon, Fox and Zhao for subsets of $\mathbb{F}_{p}^{n}$ of bounded $\mathrm{VC}$-dimension to the label space (also known as "configuration space") of $\mathcal{B}$. A related strategy was employed in earlier work of the authors on $\mathrm{NFOP}_2$ subsets of $\mathbb{F}_p^n$, and in work of the first author in the context of 3-uniform hypergraphs.
Monodromy of supersolvable toric arrangements
We study topological aspects of supersolvable abelian arrangements, toric arrangements in particular. The complement of such an arrangement sits atop a tower of fiber bundles, and we investigate the relationship between these bundles and bundles involving classical configuration spaces. In the toric case, we show that the monodromy of a supersolvable arrangement bundle factors through the Artin braid group, and that of a strictly supersolvable arrangement bundle factors further through the Artin pure braid group. The latter factorization is particularly informative -- we use it to determine a number of invariants of the complement of a strictly supersolvable arrangement, including the cohomology ring and the lower central series Lie algebra of the fundamental group.

Configuration spaces and peak representations
Within the group algebras of the symmetric and hyperoctahedral groups, one has their descent algebras and families of Eulerian idempotents. These idempotents are known to generate group representations with topological interpretations, as the cohomology of configuration spaces of types A and B. We provide an analogous cohomological interpretation for the representations generated by idempotents in the peak algebra, called the peak representations. We describe the peak representations as sums of Thrall's higher Lie characters, give Hilbert series and branching rule recursions for them, and discuss a connection to Jordan brackets.

Tropical cluster varieties of type C
We explicitly describe the tropicalization of a cluster variety of finite type C, realizing it as the space of axially symmetric phylogenetic trees. We also find all occurring sign patterns of coordinates, for both the cluster variety and the cluster configuration space. We show that each of the corresponding signed tropicalizations is, combinatorially, dual to either a cyclohedron or an associahedron. As additional results, we construct Gröbner and tropical bases for the defining ideals of both varieties, and classify the arising toric degenerations.

Fair distribution of bundles
In this paper, we study the problem of splitting fairly bundles of items. We show that given $n$ bundles with $m$ kinds of items in them, it is possible to distribute the value of each kind of item fairly among $r$ persons by breaking apart at most $(r-1)m$ bundles. Moreover, we can guarantee that each participant will receive roughly $n/r - mr/2$ full bundles. The proof methods are topological and use a modified form of the configuration space/test map scheme. We obtain optimal results when $r$ is a power of two.

Hilbert Series for Configuration Spaces of Punctured Surfaces
Let $Σ_{g,r}$ denote the $r$-punctured closed Riemann surface of genus $g$. For every $g\geq 0$, we determine the four-variable generating function for the mixed Hodge numbers of the unordered configuration spaces of $Σ_{g,1}$. The cases where $g\geq 2$ are new. Combining a result of \cite{huang2020cohomology}, this determines the analogous generating function for $Σ_{g,r}$ for all $r\geq 1$. As an application of our formula we illustrate how classical homological stability results, as well as so-called secondary stability results of \cite{miller2019higher} can be interpolated to illustrate stable behaviors in the mixed Hodge numbers of these spaces which have been thus-far undiscovered.
