Some sequences and number triangles which are related to Narayana polynomials and to q-Narayana polynomials for q=-1
As is well known the Catalan numbers can be interpreted as numbers of Dyck paths. The Narayana polynomials and the q-Narayana polynomials for q=-1 can analogously be interpreted as certain weights of these paths. In the present note we try to get some information about the corresponding weights of bounded Dyck paths. This also leads to some number sequences and analogues of Pascals triangle which previously have occurred in other contexts. We consider some examples and obtain some results and conjectures.

Some properties of Padovan matrices and bi-periodic Padovan matrices
Let $\left(P_{n}\right)_{n\geq0}$ be the sequence of bi-periodic Padovan numbers and let $\left(M_{p_{n}}\right)_{n\geq0}$ be the sequence of bi-periodic Padovan matrices. In this article we study when these matrices are diagonalizable and we obtain a certain connection with the Lucas number sequence. We also obtain some connections of these matrices with the generating matrix $Q$ for the Padovan numbers.

Systematic Enumeration of Fundamental Quantities Involving Runs in Binary Strings
We give recurrences, generating functions and explicit exact expressions for the enumeration of fundamental quantities involving runs in binary strings. We first focus on enumerations concerning runs of ones, and we then analyse the same enumerations when runs of ones and runs of zeros are jointly considered. We give the connections between these two types of run enumeration, and with the problem of compositions. We also analyse the same enumerations with a Hamming weight constraint. We discuss which of the many number sequences that emerge from these problems are already known and listed in the OEIS. Additionally, we extend our main enumerative results to the probabilistic scenario in which binary strings are outcomes of independent and identically distributed Bernoulli variables.

On Perrin Cordial Labeling: A New Approach in Graph Labeling Theory
In this paper, we introduce the concept of \emph{Perrin cordial labeling}, a novel vertex labeling scheme inspired by the Perrin number sequence and situated within the broader framework of graph labeling theory. The Perrin numbers are defined recursively by the relation \( P_n = P_{n-2} + P_{n-3} \), with initial values \( P_0 = 0 \), \( P_1 = 3 \), and \( P_2 = 0 \). A Perrin cordial labeling of a graph \( G = (V, E) \) is an injective function \( f : V(G) \rightarrow \{P_0, P_1, \dots, P_n\} \), where the induced edge labeling \( f^* : E(G) \rightarrow \{0,1\} \) is given by \( f^*(uv) = (f(u) + f(v)) \pmod 2 \). The labeling is said to be cordial if the number of edges labeled \( 0 \), denoted \( e_f(0) \), and the number labeled \( 1 \), denoted \( e_f(1) \), satisfy the condition \( |e_f(0) - e_f(1)| \leq 1 \). A graph that admits such a labeling is called a \emph{Perrin cordial graph}. This study investigates the existence of Perrin cordial labelings in various families of graphs by analyzing their structural properties and compatibility with the proposed labeling scheme. Our results aim to enrich the theory of graph labelings and highlight a new connection between number theory and graph structures.

Divergent Infinite Series -- Ramanujan's Initial Intuition
This paper investigates Srinivasa Ramanujan's initial intuitive methodology for assigning the finite value -1/12 to the sum of the divergent infinite series of all positive integers. We systematically examine Ramanujan's initial method, originally sketched in his notebooks, and set the methodology into an algebraic framework. The methodology has limited applicability to other classes of divergent series. The methodology is extended to assign a Ramanujan smoothed sum to the infinite sequences of integers raised to a positive integer power and to figurate binomial number sequences, including triangular numbers, tetrahedral numbers, and higher-dimensional analogues, avoiding analytical continuation. A key finding establishes that the Ramanujan smoothed sums of figurate binomial sequences are intrinsically connected to logarithmic numbers (Gregory coefficients), providing a novel perspective on Ramanujan summation through the lens of classical combinatorial functions. The paper applies asymptotic expansions of associated rational generating functions to demonstrate consistency with established results from analytic continuation methods. The results illuminate the deeper mathematical structures underlying Ramanujan's intuitive insights and suggest new avenues for research in divergent series summation.

A decomposition of graph a-numbers
We study the $a$-sequence $(a_0(G), a_1(G), \cdots)$ of a finite simple graph $G$, defined recursively through a combinatorial rule and known to coincide with the sequence of rational Betti numbers of the real toric variety associated with $G$. In this paper, we establish a combinatorial and topological decomposition formula for the $a$-sequence. As an application, we show that the $a$-sequence is monotone under graph inclusion; that is, $a_i(G) \geq a_i(H)$ for all $i \geq 0$ whenever $H$ is a subgraph of $G$, and obtain the lower and upper bounds of $a_i$-numbers. We also prove that the $a$-sequence is unimodal in $i$ for a broad class of graphs $G$, including those with a Hamiltonian circuit or a universal vertex. These results provide a new class of topological spaces whose Betti number sequences are unimodal but not necessarily log concave, contributing to the study of real loci in algebraic geometry.
Catalan number sequences and generalized action graphs
Published in Mathematics Exchange 18 (2025) 88-106 • View PublicationBIB
Action graphs emerged from work of Bergner and Hackney on category actions in the context of Reedy categories. Alvarez, Bergner, and Lopez showed that action graphs could be inductively generated without reference to category actions and have a close relationship with the sequence of Catalan numbers. These graphs were further generalized in work of Cressman, Lin, Nguyen, and Wiljanen, who showed that the Fuss-Catalan numbers have a similar relation to another set of inductively defined directed graphs. In our paper, we consider several other sequences related to the Catalan numbers, namely Catalan's triangle, $(a,b)$-Catalan numbers, internal triangles, and super Catalan numbers. We show action graphs cannot be generalized to Catalan's triangle, $(a,b)$-Catalan numbers, nor internal triangles. We also conjecture a method for constructing action graphs for the Super Catalan numbers.

Conditions for building generalized action graphs from sequences
This paper explores the properties of directed graphs, termed generalized action graphs, which exhibit a strong connection to certain number sequences. Focusing on the structural and combinatorial aspects, we investigate the conditions under which specific sequences can generate generalized action graphs. Building upon prior research in this field, we analyze specific features of these graphs and how they correspond to patterns and properties in their sequences. These findings support a broader conclusion that establishes framework for identifying which sequences can produce generalized action graphs.

New upper and lower bounds on the smallest singular values of nonsingular lower triangular $(0,1)$-matrices
Let $K_n$ denote the set of all nonsingular $n\times n$ lower triangular $(0,1)$-matrices. Hong and Loewy (2004) introduced the number sequence $$ c_n=\min\{λ\midλ~\text{is an eigenvalue of}~XX^{\rm T},~X\in K_n\},\quad n\in\mathbb Z_+. $$ There have been a number of attempts in the literature to obtain bounds on the numbers $c_n$ by Mattila (2015), Altinisik et al. (2016), Kaarnioja (2021), Loewy (2021), and Altinisik (2021). In this paper, improved upper and lower bounds are derived for the numbers $c_n$. By considering the characteristic polynomial corresponding to the matrix $Z_n$ satisfying $c_n=\|Z_n\|_2^{-1}$, it is shown that the second largest eigenvalue of $Z_n$ is bounded from above by $\frac45$ leading to an improved upper bound on $c_n$. On the other hand, Samuelson's inequality applied to the roots of the characteristic polynomial of $Z_n$ yields an improved lower bound. Numerical experiments demonstrate the quality of the new bounds.

Partitioning the set of natural numbers into Mersenne trees and into arithmetic progressions; Natural Matrix and Linnik's constant
We partition a series of natural numbers into infinite number sequences. We consider two partitioning options: (a) a forest of unary trees with recurrence formula of Mersenne numbers, and (b) a set of arithmetic progressions with difference $2^k$. Every tree starts with an even number, and any even number starts a certain tree. In the partitioning into arithmetic progressions, each progression starts with a Mersenne number, and each Mersenne number is the beginning of a particular arithmetic progression. Unary trees starting from some term are contained in OEIS A036991 (compact Dyck path codes), so we consider A036991 as a backbone of the partitions. In particular, we prove the existence of an arithmetic progression of any length in A036991. As a result of the partitions, we obtain a Natural Matrix with a packing function that captures the bijection between the set of natural numbers and the set of ordered pairs of natural numbers. In Natural Matrix, the even natural numbers are located on the $x$-axis, so the selection of primes in the considered arithmetic progressions is greatly simplified. A method for proving the infinity of primes in A036991 is proposed. In this regard, an attempt is made to reduce the Linnik's constant to $2$.

Two New Integer Sequences Related to Crossroads and Catalan Numbers
The lonely singles sequence represents the number of noncrossing partitions of the finite set {1,. .. , n} in which no pair of singletons {i} and {j} can be merged into the pair {i, j} so that the partition stays noncrossing. The marriageable singles sequence represents the number of all the other noncrossing partitions and is the difference between the Catalan numbers sequence and the lonely singles sequence. The 14 first terms of these sequences are given, as well as some of their properties. These sequences appear when one wants to count the number of ways to cross simultaneously certain road intersections.

Hessenberg-Toeplitz Matrix Determinants with Schroder and Fine Number Entries
In this paper, we find determinant formulas of several Hessenberg-Toeplitz matrices whose nonzero entries are derived from the small and large Schroder and Fine number sequences. Algebraic proofs of these results can be given which make use of Trudi's formula and the generating function of the associated sequence of determinants. We also provide direct arguments of our results that utilize various counting techniques, among them sign-changing involutions, on combinatorial structures related to classes of lattice paths enumerated by the Schroder and Fine numbers. As a consequence of our results, we obtain some new formulas for the Schroder and Catalan numbers as well as for some additional sequences from the OEIS in terms of determinants of certain Hessenberg-Toeplitz matrices.

Integer Sequences and Output Arrays
The first author recently introduced an integer sequence now numbered A355519 in OEIS. This sequence arose from counting bracket tournaments; its study evokes the analysis of the Catalan triangle (sequence A009766 in OEIS) and the related Catalan numbers, sequence A000108 in OEIS. We therefore introduce a general construction that places these sequences on the same footing and suggests many new integer sequences. We provide code for performing this construction and a lengthy list of examples. This construction determines a function from input sequences to output sequences. Some of the resulting output sequences are in OEIS and others are not.

Weak ascent sequences and related combinatorial structures
In this paper we introduce {\em weak ascent sequences}, a class of number sequences that properly contains ascent sequences. We show how these sequences uniquely encode each of the following objects: permutations avoiding a particular length-4 bivincular pattern; upper-triangular binary matrices that satisfy a column-adjacency rule; factorial posets that are weakly (3+1)-free. We also show how weak ascent sequences are related to a class of pattern avoiding inversion sequences that has been a topic of recent research by Auli and Elizalde. Finally, we consider the problem of enumerating these new sequences and give a closed form expression for the number of weak ascent sequences having a prescribed length and number of weak ascents.
New modular symmetric function and its applications: Modular $s$-Stirling numbers
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we consider a generalization of the Stirling number sequence of both kinds by using a specialization of a new family of symmetric functions. We give combinatorial interpretations for this symmetric functions by means of weighted lattice path and tilings. We also present some new convolutions involving the complete and elementary symmetric functions. Additionally, we introduce different families of set partitions to give combinatorial interpretations for the modular $s$-Stirling numbers.

Trees and cycles
Let $T$ be a tree on $n$ vertices. We can regard the edges of $T$ as transpositions of the vertex set; their product (in any order) is a cyclic permutation. All possible cyclic permutations arise (each exactly once) if and only if the tree is a star. In this paper we find the number of realised cycles, and obtain some results on the number of realisations of each cycle, for other trees. We also solve the inverse problem of the number of trees which give rise to a given cycle. On the way, we meet some familiar number sequences including the Euler and Fuss--Catalan numbers.

On The Log-Concavity of Polygonal Figurate Number Sequences
This paper presents the log-concavity of the $m$-gonal figurate number sequences. The author gives and proves the recurrence formula for $m$-gonal figurate number sequences and its corresponding quotient sequences which are found to be bounded. Finally, the author also show that for $m\geq 3$, the sequence $\big \{S_n(m)\big\}_{n\geq 1}$ of $m$-gonal figurate numbers is a log-concave.

BPS states, conserved charges and centres of symmetric group algebras
Published • View PublicationBIB
In $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM with $U(N)$ gauge symmetry, the multiplicity of half-BPS states with fixed dimension can be labelled by Young diagrams and can be distinguished using conserved charges corresponding to Casimirs of $U(N)$. The information theoretic study of LLM geometries and superstars in the dual $AdS_5 \times S^5$ background has raised a number of questions about the distinguishability of Young diagrams when a finite set of Casimirs are known. Using Schur-Weyl duality relations between unitary groups and symmetric groups, these questions translate into structural questions about the centres of symmetric group algebras. We obtain analytic and computational results about these structural properties and related Shannon entropies, and generate associated number sequences. A characterization of Young diagrams in terms of content distribution functions relates these number sequences to diophantine equations. These content distribution functions can be visualized as connected, segmented, open strings in content space.
