Matchings and Clusters on Plabic Fences
Fix two positive braid words $β_+,β_-$, and let $\text{Conf}(β_+,β_-)$ be the corresponding (type A) double Bott-Samelson variety. Let $β$ be a double braid word containing $β_+,β_-$ as the top, bottom words. We consider the open cluster torus $T(C_β)$ associated to a triangulation $C_β$ in $\text{Conf}(β_+,β_-)$ from arXiv:1904.07992, and we identify these with weighted plabic fences, where the usual local moves on planar bipartite graphs naturally correspond to change of torus coordinates in double Bott-Samelson variety. Moreover, $T(C_β)$ can be parametrized explicitly by certain matrix products, and also has monomial coordinates given by the cluster variables, which are matrix minors. We interpret these minors as a generalized notion of perfect matchings on weighted plabic fences, which may not be reduced plabic graphs. Using this interpretation, we show that the cluster variables are given by "generalized minimal matchings", extending the minimal matchings from arXiv:1606.08383. Lastly, we derive a Chamber Ansatz formula for double Bott-Samelson varieties via face alternating products from dimer theory. In general, plabic fences are not reduced plabic graphs, yet we are able to extend and apply the standard tools such as local moves on plabic graphs, trips, and minimal matchings to them.

Extremal Matchings and Height Functions
This paper studies a lattice structure for almost perfect matchings on certain planar, bipartite (plabic) graphs embedded in a disk. Postnikov's boundary measurement map, and subsequent related work, yielded that plabic graphs parameterize positroid cells within the totally nonnegative Grassmannian with the map itself given in terms of almost perfect matchings with fixed boundary condition. For finite planar bipartite graphs, Propp introduced a distributive lattice structure on their set of perfect matchings. Subsequently Muller--Speyer, provided this distributive lattice structure on the aforementioned almost perfect matchings with fixed boundary condition. Their work also identified the extremal matchings of this lattice for boundary conditions that coincide with face labels of the plabic graph given by the positroid structure. We extend this by giving an explicit construction of extremal matchings in terms of height functions and show that all possible boundary conditions of an almost perfect matching can be obtained within this construction.

Noncrossing Duality and the Geometry of Positive Tropical Linear Spaces
While the positive Grassmannian is deeply understood through the rich combinatorics of plabic graphs and positroid cells, its tropical counterpart, the positive tropical Grassmannian Trop$_{>0}G(k,n)$, has lacked a comparable structural framework for general $k$. Both the global face structure of Trop$_{>0}G(k,n)$ and the internal metric geometry of the tropical linear spaces it parametrizes have remained largely uncharted. This paper develops a systematic algebraic and polyhedral foundation that resolves this gap. The engine of our framework is a fundamental tropical duality, analogous to the duality between cluster variables (or more precisely, their $u$-coordinates) and $\mathbf{g}$-vectors, pairing two families of objects introduced by the first author: the planar basis of tropical Plücker vectors and the planar cross-ratios on the positive configuration space. We prove that this duality links the fan structure of the positive tropical Grassmannian to the noncrossing fan of Santos, Stump, and Welker, yielding a global bijection between integer points of $Trop_{>0}G(k,n)$ and noncrossing tableaux. We then study how this discrete combinatorial data controls the continuous metric geometry of positive tropical linear spaces. We realize the bounded complex of an integer positive tropical linear space as the subdifferential of a central roof function on the hypersimplex, and use this realization to embed it into a dilate of the fundamental alcoved simplex. The dilation factor, and hence the geometric diameter of the complex, is governed by a single invariant, the planar kinematics ($K) weight, which we show equals the number of columns in the associated noncrossing tableau. The results of this work are applied in our parallel work on scaffolds for higher tropical Grassmannians.

Clasped web bases from hourglass plabic graphs
G.-Pechenik-Pfannerer-Striker-Swanson applied hourglass plabic graphs to construct web bases for spaces of tensor invariants of fundamental representations of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_4)$, extending Kuperberg's celebrated basis for $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_3)$. We give several combinatorial characterizations of basis webs in the kernel of the projection to invariants in a tensor product of arbitrary (type $1$) irreducibles. We apply this to show that the nonzero images of basis webs form a basis (a property shared with Lusztig's dual canonical basis) yielding distinguished clasped web bases for each such tensor product.

Rotationally symmetric plabic graphs and the Lagrangian Grassmannian
We introduce the totally nonnegative Lagrangian Grassmannian $\rm{LG}_{\geq 0}^R (n,2n)$, a new subset of the totally nonnegative Grassmannian consisting of subspaces isotropic with respect to a certain bilinear form $R$. We describe its cell structure and show that each cell admits a representation by a rotationally symmetric (not necessarily reduced) plabic graph. Along the way, we develop new techniques for working with non-reduced plabic graphs.
Exact Lagrangian fillings of twist-spun torus links
We construct exact Lagrangian fillings of Legendrian torus links $Λ(k, n-k)$ that are fixed by a Legendrian loop that acts by $2π\ell/n$ rotation. Using these rotationally symmetric fillings, we produce fillings of the corresponding Legendrian twist-spun tori. Our construction is combinatorial in nature, relating symmetric weakly separated collections and plabic graphs to symmetric Legendrian weaves via the T-shift procedure of Casals, Le, Sherman-Bennett, and Weng. The main technical ingredient in this process is a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of maximal weakly separated collections of $k$-element subsets of $\{1, \dots, n\}$ that are fixed by addition of $\ell$ modulo $n$.
Plabic Tangles and Cluster Promotion Maps
Inspired by the BCFW recurrence for tilings of the amplituhedron, we introduce the general framework of `plabic tangles' that utilizes plabic graphs to define rational maps between products of Grassmannians called `promotions'. The central conjecture of the paper is that promotion maps are quasi-cluster homomorphisms, which we prove for several classes of promotions. In order to define promotion maps, we utilize $m$-vector-relation configurations ($m$-VRCs) on plabic graphs. We relate $m$-VRCs to the degree (a.k.a `intersection number') of the amplituhedron map on positroid varieties and characterize all plabic trees with intersection number one and their VRCs. Finally, we show that promotion maps admit an operad structure and, supported by the class of `$4$-mass box' promotion, we point at new positivity properties for non-rational maps beyond cluster algebras. Promotion maps have important connections to the geometry and cluster structure of the amplituhedron and singularities of scattering amplitudes in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory.

Web Diagrams of Cluster Variables for Grassmannian Gr(4,8)
Gaetz, Pechenik, Pfannerer, Striker, and Swanson introduced the concept of hourglass plabic graphs and provided a method for computing web diagrams and invariants corresponding to $4\times n$ Young tableaux, while Elkin, Musiker, and Wright applied Lam's method to explicitly compute the webs compatible with cluster variables in Gr(3,n) and their twists, namely, the preimages of the immanant map introduced by Fraser, Lam, and Le. In this paper, we use these two methods to compute both the web diagrams and the dual webs corresponding to quadratic and cubic cluster variables in the Grassmannian cluster algebra C[Gr(4,8)].

Finest positroid subdivisions from maximal weakly separated collections
We adopt a formal and algebraic approach of Early \cite{E2} to study the positive tropical Grassmannian $\operatorname{Trop}^+ Gr_{k,n}$. Specifically, we deal with positroid subdivision of hypersimplex induced by translated blades from any maximal weakly separated collection. One of our main results gives a necessary and sufficient condition on a maximal weakly separated collection to form a positroid subdivision of a hypersimplex corresponding to a simplicial cone in $\rm Trop^+Gr_{k,n}$. For k = 2 our condition says that any weakly separated collection of two-elements sets gives such a simplicial cone, and all cones are of such a form. We also show that the maximality of any weakly separated collection is preserved under the boundary map, which armatively answers a question by Early in \cite{E1}. Plabic graphs, invented by Postnikov \cite{P}, are of use in proving this result. As a corollary, we get that all those positroid subdivisions are the finest. Thus, the flip of two maximal weakly separatedcollections corresponds to a pair of adjacent maximal cones in positive tropical Grassmannian.

Newton-Okounkov bodies obtained from certain orbits of plabic graphs
We investigate the plabic graphs corresponding to the quadrilateral Postnikov arrangements used by J.Scott to equip the homogeneous coordinate rings of Grassmannians with a cluster structure. More precisely we describe their orbits under the natural action of the dihedral group and show that the associated Newton-Okounkov bodies are all unimodular equivalent to Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes.

Poset topology, moves, and Bruhat interval polytope lattices
We study the poset topology of lattices arising from orientations of 1-skeleta of directionally simple polytopes, with Bruhat interval polytopes $Q_{e,w}$ as our main example. We show that the order complex $Δ((u,v)_w)$ of an interval therein is homotopy equivalent to a sphere if $Q_{u,v}$ is a face of $Q_{e,w}$ and is otherwise contractible. This significantly generalizes the known case of the permutahedron. We also show that saturated chains from $u$ to $v$ in such lattices are connected, and in fact highly connected, under moves corresponding to flipping across a 2-face. When $w$ is a Grassmannian permutation, this implies a strengthening of the restriction of Postnikov's move-equivalence theorem to the class of BCFW bridge decomposable plabic graphs.

The HOMFLY Polynomial of a Forest Quiver
We define the HOMFLY polynomial of a forest quiver $Q$ using a recursive definition on the underlying graph of the quiver. We then show that this polynomial is equal to the HOMFLY polynomial of any plabic link which comes from a connected plabic graph whose quiver is $Q$. We also prove a closed-form expression for the HOMFLY polynomial of a forest quiver $Q$ in terms of the independent sets of $Q$.

Webs give a diagrammatic calculus for spaces of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_r)$-tensor invariants, but intrinsic characterizations of web bases are only known in certain cases. Recently, we introduced hourglass plabic graphs to give the first such $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_4)$-web bases. Separately, Fraser introduced a web basis for Plücker degree two representations of arbitrary $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_r)$. Here, we show that Fraser's basis agrees with that predicted by the hourglass plabic graph framework and give an intrinsic characterization of the resulting webs. A further compelling feature with many applications is that our bases exhibit rotation-invariance. Together with the results of our earlier paper, this implies that hourglass plabic graphs give a uniform description of all known rotation-invariant $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_r)$-web bases. Moreover, this provides a single combinatorial model simultaneously generalizing the Tamari lattice, the alternating sign matrix lattice, and the lattice of plane partitions. As a part of our argument, we develop properties of square faces in arbitrary hourglass plabic graphs, a key step in our program towards general $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_r)$-web bases.

Rotation invariant webs for three row flamingo Specht modules
We introduce a new rotation-invariant web basis for a family of Specht modules $S^{(d^3, 1^{n-3d})}$, indexed by normal plabic graphs satisfying a degree condition and resembling $A_2$ webs. We show that the $\mathfrak{S}_n$ action on our basis can be understood combinatorially via a set of skein relations. From this basis, we obtain a cyclic sieving result for a $q$-analog of the hook length formula for $λ$. Our construction extends the jellyfish invariants of Fraser, Patrias, Pechenik, and Striker and is closely related to the weblike subgraphs of Lam.
Demazure weaves for reduced plabic graphs (with a proof that Muller-Speyer twist is Donaldson-Thomas)
First, this article develops the theory of weaves and their cluster structures for the affine cones of positroid varieties. In particular, we explain how to construct a weave from a reduced plabic graph, show it is Demazure, compare their associated cluster structures, and prove that the conjugate surface of the graph is Hamiltonian isotopic to the Lagrangian filling associated to the weave. The T-duality map for plabic graphs has a surprising key role in the construction of these weaves. Second, we use the above established bridge between weaves and reduced plabic graphs to show that the Muller-Speyer twist map on positroid varieties is the Donaldson-Thomas transformation. This latter statement implies that the Muller-Speyer twist is a quasi-cluster automorphism. An additional corollary of our results is that target labeled seeds and the source labeled seeds are related by a quasi-cluster transformation.

Quasi-coincidence of cluster structures on positroid varieties
Published • View PublicationBIB
By work of a number of authors, beginning with Scott and culminating with Galashin and Lam, the coordinate rings of positroid varieties in the Grassmannian carry cluster algebra structures. In fact, they typically carry many such structures, the two best understood being the source-labelled and target-labelled structures, referring to how the initial cluster is computed from a Postnikov diagram or plabic graph. In this article, we show that these two cluster algebra structures quasi-coincide, meaning in particular that a cluster variable in one structure may be expressed in the other structure as the product of a cluster variable and a Laurent monomial in the frozen variables. This resolves a conjecture attributed to Muller and Speyer from 2017. The proof depends critically on categorification: of the relevant cluster algebra structures by the author, of perfect matchings and twists by the author with Çanakçı and King, and of quasi-equivalences of cluster algebras by Fraser and Keller. By similar techniques, we also show that Muller and Speyer's left twist map is a quasi-cluster equivalence from the target-labelled structure to the source-labelled structure.
Rotation-invariant web bases from hourglass plabic graphs

Webs give a diagrammatic calculus for spaces of tensor invariants. We introduce hourglass plabic graphs as a new avatar of webs, and use these to give the first rotation-invariant $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_4)$-web basis, a long-sought object. The characterization of our basis webs relies on the combinatorics of these new plabic graphs and associated configurations of a symmetrized six-vertex model. We give growth rules, based on a novel crystal-theoretic technique, for generating our basis webs from tableaux and we use skein relations to give an algorithm for expressing arbitrary webs in the basis. We also discuss how previously known rotation-invariant web bases can be unified in our framework of hourglass plabic graphs.

Twists of Gr(3,n) Cluster Variables as Double and Triple Dimer Partition Functions
We give a combinatorial interpretation for certain cluster variables in Grassmannian cluster algebras in terms of double and triple dimer configurations. More specifically, we examine several Gr(3,n) cluster variables that may be written as degree two or degree three polynomials in terms of Plücker coordinates, and give generating functions for their images under the twist map - a cluster algebra automorphism introduced in work of Berenstein-Fomin-Zelevinsky. The generating functions range over certain double or triple dimer configurations on an associated plabic graph, which we describe using particular non-crossing matchings or webs (as defined by Kuperberg), respectively. These connections shed light on a recent conjecture of Cheung et al., extend the concept of web duality introduced in a paper of Fraser-Lam-Le, and more broadly make headway on understanding Grassmannian cluster algebras for Gr(3,n).

Richardson varieties, projected Richardson varieties and positroid varieties
This is a survey article on Richardson varieties and their combinatorics. A Richardson variety is the intersection, inside the flag manifold GL_n/B_+, of a Schubert cell (B_- u B_+)/B_+ and an opposite Schubert cell (B_+ w B_+)/B_+ (or the similar intersection of Schubert varieties). In this survey, we provide an overview of what is known about (1) homogeneous coordinate rings of Richardson varieties, their bases and degenerations (2) parametrizations of Richardson varieties using Bott-Samelson varieties (3) Deodhar's decompositions of the flag manifold and of Richardson varieties within it and (4) total positivity in the flag manifold. We also provide an overview of the combinatorics of positroid varieties, their relations to Richardson varieties, and how they are parametrized using plabic graphs. Most of this survey is an overview of other authors' work over the last forty years, but there are also some minor original results: For example, that coordinate rings of open Richardson varieties are UFD's (Corollary 3.23), that the Deodhar decomposition is not a stratification in Lie type A (Section 4.3) and explicit descriptions of the Deodhar decomposition in terms of ranks of submatrices (Section 4.4).
Braid variety cluster structures, I: 3D plabic graphs
We introduce $3$-dimensional generalizations of Postnikov's plabic graphs and use them to establish cluster structures for type $A$ braid varieties. Our results include known cluster structures on open positroid varieties and double Bruhat cells, and establish new cluster structures for type $A$ open Richardson varieties.
