The asymptotic number of equivalence classes of linear codes with given dimension
We investigate the asymptotic number of equivalence classes of linear codes with prescribed length and dimension. While the total number of inequivalent codes of a given length has been studied previously, the case where the dimension varies as a function of the length has not yet been considered. We derive explicit asymptotic formulas for the number of equivalence classes under three standard notions of equivalence, for a fixed alphabet size and increasing length. Our approach also yields an exact asymptotic expression for the sum of all q-binomial coefficients, which is of independent interest and answers an open question in this context. Finally, we establish a natural connection between these asymptotic quantities and certain discrete Gaussian distributions arising from Brownian motion, providing a probabilistic interpretation of our results.
Factorizations in Hecke algebras I: long cycle factorizations and Jucys-Murphy elements
Given a permutation, there is a well-developed literature studying the number of ways one can factor it into a product of other permutations subject to certain conditions. We initiate the analogous theory for the type A Iwahori-Hecke algebra by generalizing the notion of factorization in terms of the Jucys-Murphy elements. Some of the oldest and most foundational factorization results for the symmetric groups pertain to the long cycle. Our main results give q-deformations of these long cycle factorizations and reveal q-binomial, q-Catalan, and q-Narayana numbers along the way.
The "Shape" of q-Binomial Coefficients
This is an informal and mostly expository note describing some asymptotic behavior and qualitative properties of the q-binomial coefficients. The results are mostly not new, but the overall story we present does not seem to be well known -- and the diagrams are all new.
Bilateral Bailey pairs and Rogers-Ramanujan type identities
Rogers-Ramanujan type identities occur in various branches of mathematics and physics. As a classic and powerful tool to deal with Rogers-Ramanujan type identities, the theory of Bailey's lemma has been extensively studied and generalized. In this paper, we found a bilateral Bailey pair that naturally arises from the q-binomial theorem. By applying the bilateral versions of Bailey lemmas, Bailey chains and Bailey lattices, we derive a number of Rogers-Ramanujan type identities, which unify many known identities as special cases. Further combined with the bilateral Bailey chains due to Berkovich, McCoy and Schilling and the bilateral Bailey lattices due to Jouhet et al., we also obtain identities on Appell-Lerch series and identities of Andrews-Gordon type. Moreover, by applying Andrews and Warnaar's bilateral Bailey lemmas, we derive identities on Hecke-type series.
q-Parikh Matrices and q-deformed binomial coefficients of words
We have introduced a q-deformation, i.e., a polynomial in q with natural coefficients, of the binomial coefficient of two finite words u and v counting the number of occurrences of v as a subword of u. In this paper, we examine the q-deformation of Parikh matrices as introduced by Eğecioğlu in 2004.
Many classical results concerning Parikh matrices generalize to this new framework: Our first important observation is that the elements of such a matrix are in fact q-deformations of binomial coefficients of words. We also study their inverses and as an application, we obtain new identities about q-binomials.
For a finite word z and for the sequence $(p_n)_{n\ge 0}$ of prefixes of an infinite word, we show that the polynomial sequence $\binom{p_n}{z}_q$ converges to a formal series. We present links with additive number theory and k-regular sequences. In the case of a periodic word $u^ω$, we generalize a result of Salomaa: the sequence $\binom{u^n}{z}_q$ satisfies a linear recurrence relation with polynomial coefficients. Related to the theory of integer partition, we describe the growth and the zero set of the coefficients of the series associated with $u^ω$.
Finally, we show that the minors of a q-Parikh matrix are polynomials with natural coefficients and consider a generalization of Cauchy's inequality. We also compare q-Parikh matrices associated with an arbitrary word with those associated with a canonical word $12\cdots k$ made of pairwise distinct symbols.
Introducing q-deformed binomial coefficients of words
Gaussian binomial coefficients are q-analogues of the binomial coefficients of integers. On the other hand, binomial coefficients have been extended to finite words, i.e., elements of the finitely generated free monoids. In this paper we bring together these two notions by introducing q-analogues of binomial coefficients of words. We study their basic properties, e.g., by extending classical formulas such as the q-Vandermonde and Manvel's et al. identities to our setting. As a consequence, we get information about the structure of the considered words: these q-deformations of binomial coefficients of words contain much richer information than the original coefficients. From an algebraic perspective, we introduce a q-shuffle and a family q-infiltration products for non-commutative formal power series. Finally, we apply our results to generalize a theorem of Eilenberg characterizing so-called p-group languages. We show that a language is of this type if and only if it is a Boolean combination of specific languages defined through q-binomial coefficients seen as polynomials over $\mathbb{F}_p$.
Two curious q-supercongruences and their extensions
We prove two single-parameter q-supercongruences which were recently conjectured by Guo, and establish their further extensions with one more parameter. Crucial ingredients in the proof are the terminating form of q-binomial theorem and a Karlsson-Minton type summation formula due to Gasper. Incidentally, an assertion of Wang, Li and Tang is also verified by establishing its q-analogue.
Algebraic identities on q-harmonic numbers and q-binomial coefficients
The aim of this paper is to present a general algebraic identity. Applying this identity, we provide several formulas involving the q-binomial coefficients and the q-harmonic numbers. We also recover some known identities including an algebraic identity of D. Y. Zheng on q-Apéry numbers and we establish the q-analog of Euler's formula. The proposed results may have important applications in the theory of q-supercongruences.
The q-Binomial Coefficient for Negative Arguments and Some q-Binomial Summation Identities
Using a property of the q-shifted factorial, an identity for q-binomial coefficients is proved, which is used to derive the formulas for the q-binomial coefficient for negative arguments. The result is in agreement with an earlier paper about the normal binomial coefficient for negative arguments. Some new q-binomial summation identities are derived, and the formulas for negative arguments transform some of these summation identities into each other. One q-binomial summation identity is transformed into a new q-binomial summation identity.
Computation of q-Binomial Coefficients with the $P(n,m)$ Integer Partition Function
Using $P(n,m)$, the number of integer partitions of $n$ into exactly $m$ parts, which was the subject of an earlier paper, $P(n,m,p)$, the number of integer partitions of $n$ into exactly $m$ parts with each part at most $p$, can be computed in $O(n^2)$, and the q-binomial coefficient can be computed in $O(n^3)$. Using the definition of the q-binomial coefficient, some properties of the q-binomial coefficient and $P(n,m,p)$ are derived. The q-multinomial coefficient can be computed as a product of q-binomial coefficients. A formula for $Q(n,m,p)$, the number of integer partitions of $n$ into exactly $m$ distinct parts with each part at most $p$, is given. Some formulas for the number of integer partitions with each part between a minimum and a maximum are derived. A computer algebra program is listed implementing these algorithms using the computer algebra program of the earlier paper.

In this paper, we use the generalized q-polynomials with double q-binomial coefficients and homogeneous q-operators [J. Difference Equ. Appl. 20 (2014), 837--851.] to construct q-difference equations with seven variables, which generalize recent works of Jia et al [Symmetry 2021, 13, 1222.]. In addition, we derive Rogers formulas, extended Rogers formulas and Srivastava--Agarwal type bilinear generating functions for generalized q-polynomials, which generalize generating functions for Cigler's polynomials [J. Difference Equ. Appl. 24 (2018), 479--502.]. Finally, we also derive mixed generating functions using q-difference equations.
Tiling proofs of Jacobi triple product and Rogers-Ramanujan identities
We use the method of tiling to give elementary combinatorial proofs of some celebrated $q$-series identities, such as Jacobi triple product identity, Rogers-Ramanujan identities, and some identities of Rogers. We give a tiling proof of the q-binomial theorem and a tiling interpretation of the q-binomial coefficients. A new generalized $ k $-product $q$-series identity is also obtained by employing the `tiling-method', wherein the generating function of the set of all possible tilings of a rectangular board is computed in two different ways to obtain the desired $q$-series identity. Several new recursive $ q$-series identities were also established. The `tiling-method' holds promise for giving an aesthetically pleasing approach to prove old and new $q$-series identities.

The q-binomial coefficients were assumed to be unimodal as early as the 1850's, but it remained unproven until Sylvester's 1878 proof using invariant theory. In 1982, Proctor gave an "elementary" proof using linear algebra. Finally, in 1989, Kathy O'Hara provided a combinatorial proof of the unimodality of the q-binomial coefficients. Very soon thereafter, Doron Zeilberger translated the argument into an elegant recurrence. We introduce several perturbations to the recurrence to create a larger family of unimodal polynomials. We analyze how these perturbations affect the final polynomial and analyze some specific cases.

We classify rooted trees which have strictly unimodal q-polynomials (plucking polynomial). We also give criteria for a trapezoidal shape of a plucking polynomial. We generalize results of Pak and Panova on strict unimodality of q-binomial coefficients. We discuss which polynomials can be realized as plucking polynomials and whether or not different rooted trees can have the same plucking polynomial.
Combinatorial Formula for the Partition Function
In this article we will derive a combinatorial formula for the partition function p(n). In the second part of the paper we will establish connection between partitions and q-binomial coefficients and give new interpretation for q-binomial coefficients.

We look at the asymptotic behavior of the coefficients of the $q$-binomial coefficients (or Gaussian polynomials) $\binom{a+k}{k}_q$, when $k$ is fixed. We give a number of results in this direction, some of which involve Eulerian polynomials and their generalizations.

We provide q-generalizations of Spivey's Bell number formula in various settings by considering statistics on different combinatorial structures. This leads to new identities involving q-Stirling numbers of both kinds and q-Lah numbers. As corollaries, we obtain identities for both binomial and q-binomial coefficients. Our results at the same time also generalize recent r-Stirling number formulas of Mezo. Finally, we provide a combinatorial proof and refinement of Xu's extension of Spivey's formula to the generalized Stirling numbers of Hsu and Shiue. To do so, we develop a combinatorial interpretation for these numbers in terms of extended Lah distributions.

We define an overpartition analogue of Gaussian polynomials (also known as $q$-binomial coefficients) as a generating function for the number of overpartitions fitting inside the $M \times N$ rectangle. We call these new polynomials over Gaussian polynomials or over $q$-binomial coefficients. We investigate basic properties and applications of over $q$-binomial coefficients. In particular, via the recurrences and combinatorial interpretations of over q-binomial coefficients, we prove a Rogers-Ramaujan type partition theorem.
Some q-analogues of (super)congruences of Beukers, Van Hamme and Rodriguez-Villegas
For any odd prime p we obtain q-analogues of Van Hamme's supercongruence: $$ \sum_{k=0}^{\frac{p-1}{2}}{2k\choose k}^3\frac{1}{64^k} \equiv 0 \pmod{p^2} \quad\text{for}\quad p\equiv 3\pmod 4, $$ and Rodriguez-Villegas' Beukers-like supercongruences involving products of three binomial coefficients. For example, we prove that \begin{align*} \sum_{k=0}^{\frac{p-1}{2}} {2k\brack k}_{q^2}^3 \frac{q^{2k}}{(-q^2;q^2)_k^2 (-q;q)_{2k}^2} &\equiv 0\pmod{[p]^2} \quad\text{for}\quad p\equiv 3\pmod 4, \\ \sum_{k=0}^{\frac{p-1}{2}}{2k\brack k}_{q^3}\frac{(q;q^3)_k (q^{2};q^3)_{k} q^{3k} }{ (q^{6};q^{6})_k^2 } &\equiv 0 \pmod{[p]^2}\quad\text{for}\quad p\equiv 2\pmod{3}, \end{align*} where $[p]=1+q+\cdots+q^{p-1}$, $(a;q)_n=(1-a)(1-aq)\cdots(1-aq^{n-1})$, and ${n\brack k}_q$ denotes the q-binomial coefficient. Actually, our results give q-analogues of Z.-H. Sun's and Z.-W. Sun's generalizations of the above Beukers-like supercongruences. Our proof uses the theory of basic hypergeometric series including a new q-Clausen-type summation formula.

The classical parking functions, counted by the Cayley number (n+1)^(n-1), carry a natural permutation representation of the symmetric group S_n in which the number of orbits is the n'th Catalan number. In this paper, we will generalize this setup to rational parking functions indexed by a pair (a,b) of coprime positive integers. We show that these parking functions, which are counted by b^(a-1), carry a permutation representation of S_a in which the number of orbits is a rational Catalan number. We compute the Frobenius characteristic of the S_a-module of (a,b)-parking functions. Next we propose a combinatorial formula for a q-analogue of the rational Catalan numbers and relate this formula to a new combinatorial model for q-binomial coefficients. Finally, we discuss q,t-analogues of rational Catalan numbers and parking functions (generalizing the shuffle conjecture for the classical case) and present several conjectures.
