Recursive structures of molecules and cells in Gelfand $S_n$-graphs
$W$-graphs, representing the multiplication action of the standard basis on the canonical basis in the Iwahori-Hecke algebra are introduced by Kazhdan and Lusztig. Marberg defined a generalized $W$-graph, the Gelfand W-graph, corresponding to the Hecke algebra modules instead of Hecke algebras. To classify the molecules and cells of the Gelfand $S_n$-graphs, in this paper, we introduce a recursive structure of $S_n$ and then discuss the action of the recursive structure on the molecules. Using this struction, we show that a specific molecule is indeed a cell.
Quantum Super Littlewood Correspondences
In this paper, we study the Littlewood theory associated with the quantum super immanants and supersymmetric polynomials, including both the super case and the quantum generalization. In the setting of quantum super Schur-Weyl duality between the quantum superalgebra $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n})$ and the Iwahori-Hecke algebra $\mathcal{H}_r$ of type A, we explicitly construct basis vectors of the $(U_q(\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n}), \mathcal{H}_r)$-bimodule on the tensor product space $(\mathbb{C}^{m|n})^{\otimes r}$. Using this construction, we interpret the quantum super immanants via weight spaces of covariant tensor representations of $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n})$.
Stingray Patterns of Dominant Weights
We study the set $W_{r,e,w}\ $ of dominant weights of $\mathfrak{sl}_r$ arising from partitions of fixed $e$-weight $w$. For $e$-cores, we show that $W_{r,e,0}\ $ decomposes as a disjoint union of simplices indexed by compositions of $r$. For general $w$, we prove that $W_{r,e,w}\ $ is a disjoint union of copies of these simplices, with multiplicities determined by the corresponding quotient data, yielding in particular a closed counting formula for $|W_{r,e,w}\ |\ $. The geometry gives rise to the stingray patterns appearing in the title. More generally, it yields a natural labeling of the dominant $e$-alcoves meeting $W_{r,e,w}\ $ by weak compositions of $w$, together with a compatible partial action of the affine Weyl group via wall crossing. Finally, we give an explicit alcove-geometric proof of the empty runner removal theorem for Iwahori-Hecke algebras.
$q$-deformations of the Tsetlin library
The Tsetlin library is a random shuffling process on permutations of $n$ letters, where each letter $i$ can be interpreted as a book; book $i$ is brought to the front of the bookshelf with an assigned probability $x_i$. We define a $q$-deformation of the Tsetlin library by replacing the symmetric group action on permutations by the action of the type $A$ Iwahori-Hecke algebra. We compute the stationary distribution and spectrum of this Markov chain by relating it to a Markov chain on complete flags over the finite field vector space $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ and applying techniques from semigroup theory. We also generalize the $q$-Tsetlin library to words (with repeated letters), and compute its stationary distribution and spectrum.
Factorizations in Hecke algebras I: long cycle factorizations and Jucys-Murphy elements
Given a permutation, there is a well-developed literature studying the number of ways one can factor it into a product of other permutations subject to certain conditions. We initiate the analogous theory for the type A Iwahori-Hecke algebra by generalizing the notion of factorization in terms of the Jucys-Murphy elements. Some of the oldest and most foundational factorization results for the symmetric groups pertain to the long cycle. Our main results give q-deformations of these long cycle factorizations and reveal q-binomial, q-Catalan, and q-Narayana numbers along the way.
The largest sets of non-opposite chambers in spherical buildings of type $B$
The investigation into large families of non-opposite flags in finite spherical buildings has been a recent addition to a long line of research in extremal combinatorics, extending classical results in vector and polar spaces. This line of research falls under the umbrella of Erdős-Ko-Rado (EKR) problems, but poses some extra difficulty on the algebraic level compared to aforementioned classical results. From the building theory point of view, it can be seen as a variation of the center conjecture for spherical buildings due to Tits, where we replace the convexity assumption by a maximality condition.
In previous work, general upper bounds on the size of families of non-opposite flags were obtained by applying eigenvalue and representation-theoretic techniques to the Iwahori-Hecke algebras of non-exceptional buildings. More recently, the classification of families reaching this upper bound in type $A_n$, for $n$ odd, was accomplished by Heering, Lansdown, and Metsch. For buildings of type $B$, the corresponding Iwahori-Hecke algebra is more complicated and depends non-trivially on the type and rank of the underlying polar space. Nevertheless, we are able to find a uniform method based on antidesigns and obtain classification results for chambers (i.e.\ maximal flags) in all cases, except type $^2A_{4n-3}$.
Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for the cyclotomic Hecke algebra and applications
We derive a Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for irreducible characters of the cyclotomic Hecke algebra on certain standard elements, which fully determine their values. This work builds upon our recent multi-parameter Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for Macdonald polynomials. Our Murnaghan-Nakayama rule can be readily specialized to retrieve various existing rules, including those for the complex reflection group of type $G(m, 1, n)$ and the Iwahori-Hecke algebra in types $A$ and $B$. In a dual picture, we establish an iterative formula for the irreducible characters on upper multipartitions, utilizing the vertex operator realization of Schur functions.
As applications we derive an Regev-type formula and an Lübeck-Prasad-Adin-Roichman-type formula for the cyclotomic Hecke algebra, thereby extending the corresponding formulas for the Iwahori-Hecke algebra in type $A$ and the complex reflection group of type $G(m,1,n)$ to the setting of the cyclotomic Hecke algebra, respectively. Finally, we introduce the notion of the multiple bitrace of the cyclotomic Hecke algebra to formulate the second orthogonal relation of the irreducible characters. We also provide a general combinatorial rule to compute the multiple bitrace.
Cell Classification of Gelfand $S_n$-Graphs
Kazhdan and Lusztig introduced the $W$-graphs, which represent the multiplication action of the standard basis on the canonical bais in the Iwahori-Hecke algebra. In the Hecke algebra module, Marberg defined two generalied $W$-graphs, called the Gelfand $W$-graphs. The classification of the molecules of the type $A$ Gelfand $S_n$-graphs are determined by two RSK-like insertion algorithms. We finish the classification of cells by proving that every molecule in the $S_n$-graphs is indeed a cell.
An algebraic approach to Erdős-Ko-Rado sets of flags in spherical buildings II
We continue our investigation of Erdős-Ko-Rado (EKR) sets of flags in spherical buildings. In previous work, we used the theory of buildings and Iwahori-Hecke algebras to obtain upper bounds on their size. As the next step towards the classification of the maximal EKR-sets, we describe the eigenspaces for the smallest eigenvalue of the opposition graphs. We determine their multiplicity and provide a combinatorial description of spanning sets of these subspaces, from which a complete description of the maximal Erdős-Ko-Rado sets of flags may potentially be found. This was recently shown to be possible for type $A_n$, $n$ odd, by Heering, Lansdown, and the last author by making use of the current work.
Lusztig varieties and Macdonald polynomials
This paper uses Lusztig varieties to give central elements of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra corresponding to unipotent conjugacy classes in the finite Chevalley group $GL_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$. We explain how these central elements are related to Macdonald polynomials and how this provides a framework for generalizing integral form and modified Macdonald polynomials to Lie types other than $GL_n$. The key steps are to recognize (a) that counting points in Lusztig varieties is equivalent to computing traces on the Hecke algebras, (b) that traces on the Hecke algebra determine elements of the center of the Hecke algebra, (c) that the Geck-Rouquier basis elements of the center of the Hecke algebra produce an `expansion matrix', (d) that the parabolic subalgebras of the Hecke algebra produce a `contraction matrix' and (e) that the combination `expansion-contraction' is the plethystic transformation that relates integral form Macdonald polynomials and modified Macdonald polynomials.

This paper studies irreducible characters of the $q$-rook monoid algebra $R_n(q)$ using the vertex algebraic method. Based on the Frobenius formula for $R_n(q)$, a new iterative character formula is derived with the help of the vertex operator realization of the Schur symmetric function. The same idea also leads to a simple proof of the Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for $R_n(q)$. We also introduce the bitrace for the $q$-rook monoid and derive its combinatorial formula as a generalization of the bitrace formula for the Iwahori-Hecke algebra. The character table of $R_n(q)$ with $|μ|=5$ is listed in the appendix.

We use vertex operators to compute irreducible characters of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra of type $A$. Two general formulas are given for the irreducible characters in terms of those of the symmetric groups or the Iwahori-Hecke algebras in lower degrees. Explicit formulas are derived for the irreducible characters labeled by hooks and two-row partitions. Using duality, we also formulate a determinant type Murnaghan-Nakayama formula and give another proof of Ram's combinatorial Murnaghan-Nakayama formula. As applications, we study super-characters of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra as well as the bitrace of the regular representation and provide a simple proof of the Halverson-Luduc-Ram formula.

An iterative formula for the Green polynomial is given using the vertex operator realization of the Hall-Littlewood function. Based on this, (1) a general combinatorial formula of the Green polynomial is given; (2) several compact formulas are given for Green's polynomials associated with upper partitions of length $\leq 3$ and the diagonal lengths $\leq 3$; (3) a Murnaghan-Nakayama type formula for the Green polynomial is obtained; and (4) an iterative formula is derived for the bitrace of the finite general linear group $G$ and the Iwahori-Hecke algebra of type $A$ on the permutation module of $G$ by its Borel subgroup.

A Gelfand model for an algebra is a module given by a direct sum of irreducible submodules, with every isomorphism class of irreducible modules represented exactly once. We introduce the notion of a perfect model for a finite Coxeter group, which is a certain set of discrete data (involving Rains and Vazirani's concept of a perfect involution) that parametrizes a Gelfand model for the associated Iwahori-Hecke algebra. We describe perfect models for all classical Weyl groups, excluding type D in even rank. The representations attached to these models simultaneously generalize constructions of Adin, Postnikov, and Roichman (from type A to other classical types) and of Araujo and Bratten (from group algebras to Iwahori-Hecke algebras). We show that each Gelfand model derived from a perfect model has a canonical basis that gives rise to a pair of related $W$-graphs, which we call Gelfand $W$-graphs. For types BC and D, we prove that these $W$-graphs are dual to each other, a phenomenon which does not occur in type A.

We derive a formula for the entries in the change-of-basis matrix between Young's seminormal and natural representations of the symmetric group. These entries are determined as sums over weighted paths in the weak Bruhat graph on standard tableaux, and we show that they can be computed recursively as the weighted sum of at most two previously-computed entries in the matrix. We generalize our results to work for affine Hecke algebras, Ariki-Koike algebras, Iwahori-Hecke algebras, and complex reflection groups given by the wreath product of a finite cyclic group with the symmetric group.
Cellularity of the p-Canonical Basis for Symmetric Groups
For symmetric groups we show that the p-canonical basis can be extended to a cell datum for the Iwahori-Hecke algebra H and that the two-sided p-cell preorder coincides with the Kazhdan-Lusztig two-sided cell preorder. Moreover, we show that left (or right) p-cells inside the same two-sided p-cell for Hecke algebras of finite crystallographic Coxeter systems are incomparable (Property A).

In this paper, oppositeness in spherical buildings is used to define an EKR-problem for flags in projective and polar spaces. A novel application of the theory of buildings and Iwahori-Hecke algebras is developed to prove sharp upper bounds for EKR-sets of flags. In this framework, we can reprove and generalize previous upper bounds for EKR-problems in projective and polar spaces. The bounds are obtained by the application of the Delsarte-Hoffman coclique bound to the opposition graph. The computation of its eigenvalues is due to earlier work by Andries Brouwer and an explicit algorithm is worked out. For the classical geometries, the execution of this algorithm boils down to elementary combinatorics. Connections to building theory, Iwahori-Hecke algebras, classical groups and diagram geometries are briefly discussed. Several open problems are posed throughout and at the end.

In this paper we extend the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth (RSK) superinsertion algorithm to hook-multipartitions and derive the super Frobenius formula for the characters of cyclotomic Hecke algebras (Linear and Multilinear Algebra, DOI: 10.1080/03081087.2019.1663140) via the RSK superinsertion algorithm. In particular, we obtain a new proof of Mitsuhashi's super Frobenius formula for the characters of Iwahori-Hecke algebras.

The Mullineux involution is an important map on $p$-regular partitions that originates from the modular representation theory of $\mathcal{S}_n$. In this paper we study the Mullineux transpose map and the generalized column regularization and prove a condition under which the two maps are exactly the same. Our results generalize the work of Bessenrodt, Olsson and Xu, and the combinatorial constructions is related to the Iwahori-Hecke algebra and the global crystal basis of the basic $U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_b)$-module. In the conclusion, we provide several conjectures regarding the $q$-decomposition numbers and generalizations of results due to Fayers.
Artin Groups and Iwahori-Hecke algebras over finite fields
In this doctoral thesis, we will determine the image of Artin groups associated to all finite irreducible Coxeter groups inside their associated finite Iwahori-Hecke algebra. This was done in type $A$ by Brunat, Magaard and Marin. The Zariski closure of the image was determined in the generic case by Marin. It is suggested by strong approximation that the results should be similar in the finite case. However, the conditions required to use are much too strong and would only provide a portion of the results. We show in this thesis that they are but that new phenomena arise from the different field factorizations. The techniques used in the finite case are very different from the ones in the generic case. The main arguments come from finite group theory. In high dimension, we will use a theorem by Guralnick-Saxl which uses the classification of finite simple groups to give a condition for subgroups of linear groups to be classical groups in a natural representation. In low dimension, we will mainly use the classification of maximal subgroups of classical groups determined by Bray, Holt and Roney-Dougal for the complicated cases.
We find some new $W$-graphs in types $H_4$, $E_6$ and $E_8$ which provide different information from the usual ones. They are all associated in a natural way to a bilinear form which is very complicated to obtain in the previous models. In this model, the bilinear form is obtained using only the two-colorability and its matrix in a well chosen basis is anti-diagonal. The uniqueness properties can probably be extended in a more general setting and understanding which setting this is may be worth considering.
