Partial-dual genus polynomial of graphs

Recently, Chmutov introduced the partial duality of ribbon graphs, which can be regarded as a generalization of the classical Euler-Poincaré duality. The partial-dual genus polynomial $^\partial\varepsilon_G(z)$ is an enumeration of the partial duals of $G$ by Euler genus. For an intersection graph derived from a given chord diagram, the partial-dual genus polynomial can be defined by considering the ribbon graph associated to the chord diagram. In this paper, we provide a combinatorial approach to the partial-dual genus polynomial in terms of intersection graphs without referring to chord diagrams. After extending the definition of the partial-dual genus polynomial from intersection graphs to all graphs, we prove that it satisfies the four-term relation of graphs. This provides an answer to a problem proposed by Chmutov.
A categorification for the partial-dual genus polynomial
The partial-dual genus polynomial $^\partial\varepsilon_G(z)$ of a ribbon graph $G$ is the generating function that enumerates all partial duals of $G$. In this paper, we give a categorification for this polynomial. The key ingredient of the construction is an extended Frobenius algebra related to unoriented topological quantum field theory.

A categorification for the signed chromatic polynomial

By coloring a signed graph by signed colors, one obtains the signed chromatic polynomial of the signed graph. For each signed graph we construct graded cohomology groups whose graded Euler characteristic yields the signed chromatic polynomial of the signed graph. We show that the cohomology groups satisfy a long exact sequence which corresponds to signed deletion-contraction rule. This work is motivated by Helme-Guizon and Rong's construction of the categorification for the chromatic polynomial of unsigned graphs.

In this paper we give a sufficient and necessary condition for two rooted trees with the same plucking polynomial. Furthermore, we give a criteria for a sequence of non-negative integers to be realized as a rooted tree.

We classify rooted trees which have strictly unimodal q-polynomials (plucking polynomial). We also give criteria for a trapezoidal shape of a plucking polynomial. We generalize results of Pak and Panova on strict unimodality of q-binomial coefficients. We discuss which polynomials can be realized as plucking polynomials and whether or not different rooted trees can have the same plucking polynomial.
