A refinement of the Q-Polynomial for twisted knots
This paper introduces a two-variable polynomial invariant for oriented twisted knots, denoted by $Q_{K}^{z}(s,t)$, refining the $Q$-polynomial of N. Kamada and S. Kamada \cite{NaoSei}. We exhibit an infinite family of twisted knots indistinguishable by the $Q$-polynomial but separated by the $Q^z$-polynomial. To prove invariance, we first determine a generating set of oriented Reidemeister moves for twisted knot diagrams, extending the result of Ali \cite{Dan} for oriented virtual knots; this result is new and of independent interest, as it provides the minimal framework needed to verify invariance of any oriented twisted knot invariant. As further applications, we derive an explicit crossing change formula, obtain lower bounds on the Gordian distance between homotopic twisted knots, examine the existence of cosmetic crossings in a twisted knot diagram, and finally prove that $Q^{z}_{K}(s,t)$ is a Vassiliev invariant of order one.
On planar functions over $\mathbb{F}_{q^3}$
Let $\mathbb{F}_q$ denote the finite field of order $q$. For $q$ odd, we investigate the planarity over $\mathbb{F}_{q^3}$ of the family
$$
f_{E,A,B,C,D}(X) := EX^2+ AX^{q+1}+ BX^{q^2+1}+CX^{2q} +DX^{2q^2}\in \mathbb{F}_{q}[X].
$$
Using results from the theory of q-polynomials, we establish conditions under which these polynomials are planar functions. In particular, we provide characterizations for the planarity property and present new families of planar trinomials, quadrinomials, and pentanomials.
Derangements in affine classical groups and Cohen-Lenstra heuristics
We observe that Anzanello's work on the proportion of derangements in affine classical groups over finite fields is related to symplectic and orthogonal Cohen-Lenstra type distributions on integer partitions. This leads to a proof of three q-polynomial identities conjectured by Anzanello, which were crucial for her work.
Codes with symmetric distances
For a code $C$ in a space with maximal distance $n$, we say that $C$ has symmetric distances if its distance set $S(C)$ is symmetric with respect to $n / 2$. In this paper, we prove that if $C$ is a binary code with length $2n$, constant weight $n$ and symmetric distances, then \[
|C| \leq \binom{2 n - 1}{|S(C)|}. \] This result can be interpreted using the language of Johnson association schemes. More generally, we give a framework to study codes with symmetric distances in Q-bipartite Q-polynomial association schemes, and provide upper bounds for such codes. Moreover, we use number theoretic techniques to determine when the equality holds.
The log concavity of two graphical sequences
We show that the large Cartesian powers of any graph have log-concave valencies with respect to a ffxed vertex. We show that the series of valencies of distance regular graphs is log-concave, thus improving on a result of (Taylor, Levingston, 1978). Consequences for strongly regular graphs, two-weight codes, and completely regular codes are derived. By P-Q duality of association schemes the series of multiplicities of Q-polynomial association schemes is shown, under some assumption, to be log-concave.
Multivariate P- and/or Q-polynomial association schemes
The classification problem of $P$- and $Q$-polynomial association schemes has been one of the central problems in algebraic combinatorics. Generalizing the concept of $P$- and $Q$-polynomial association schemes to multivariate cases, namely to consider higher rank $P$- and $Q$-polynomial association schemes, has been tried by some authors, but it seems that so far there were neither very well-established definition nor results. Very recently, Bernard, Crampé, d'Andecy, Vinet, and Zaimi [arXiv:2212.10824], defined bivariate $P$-polynomial association schemes, as well as bivariate $Q$-polynomial association schemes. In this paper, we study these concepts and propose a new modified definition concerning a general monomial order, which is more general and more natural and also easy to handle. We prove that there are many interesting families of examples of multivariate $P$- and/or $Q$-polynomial association schemes.

Bivariate P-polynomial association scheme of type $(α,β)$ are defined as a generalization of the P-polynomial association schemes. This generalization is shown to be equivalent to a set of conditions on the intersection parameters. A number of known higher rank association schemes are seen to belong to this broad class. Bivariate Q-polynomial association schemes are similarly defined.

In this paper, we use the generalized q-polynomials with double q-binomial coefficients and homogeneous q-operators [J. Difference Equ. Appl. 20 (2014), 837--851.] to construct q-difference equations with seven variables, which generalize recent works of Jia et al [Symmetry 2021, 13, 1222.]. In addition, we derive Rogers formulas, extended Rogers formulas and Srivastava--Agarwal type bilinear generating functions for generalized q-polynomials, which generalize generating functions for Cigler's polynomials [J. Difference Equ. Appl. 24 (2018), 479--502.]. Finally, we also derive mixed generating functions using q-difference equations.
Schubert Polynomials in Types A and C
Enriched versions of type A Schubert polynomials are constructed with coefficients in a polynomial ring in variables $c_1, c_2, \ldots$. Specializing these variables to $0$ recovers the double Schubert polynomials of Lascoux and Schützenberger; specializing them to certain power series recovers the back-stable double Schubert polynomials of Lam, Lee, and Shimozono; specializing them to Schur Q-polynomials relates them to the type C double Schubert polynomials of Ikeda, Mihalcea, and Naruse. Many formulas for classical Schubert polynomials generalize to this setting. They give, and are characterized by, formulas for degeneracy loci.

We classify the Q-polynomial association schemes with $m_{1} = 4$ which are partially metric with respect to the nearest neighbourhood relation. An association scheme is partially metric with respect to a relation $R_1$ if the scheme graph of $R_2$ is exactly the distance-2 graph of the scheme graph of $R_1$ under a certain ordering of the relations.
Connectivity concerning the last two subconstituents of a Q-polynomial distance-regular graph
Let $Γ$ be a $Q$-polynomial distance-regular graph of diameter $d\geq 3$. Fix a vertex $γ$ of $Γ$ and consider the subgraph induced on the union of the last two subconstituents of $Γ$ with respect to $γ$. We prove that this subgraph is connected.
The Tutte q-Polynomial
$q$-Matroids are defined on complemented modular support lattices. Minors of length 2 are of four types as in a "classical" matroid. Tutte polynomials $τ(x,y)$ of matroids are calculated either by recursion over deletion/contraction of single elements, by an enumeration of bases with respect to internal/external activities, or by substitution $x \to (x-1),\; y \to (y-1)$ in their rank generating functions $ρ(x,y)$. The $q$-analogue of the passage from a Tutte polynomial to its corresponding RGF is straight-forward, but the analogue of the reverse process $x \to (x-1),\; y \to (y-1)$ is more delicate.
For matroids $M(S)$ on a set $S$, and relative to any linear order on the points, the concept of internal/external activity of a point relative to a basis gives rise to a partition of the underlying Boolean algebra $B(S)$ into a set of "prime-free" (or "structureless") minors, such minors being direct sums of loops and isthmi (coloops), with one such prime-free minor for each basis. What usually goes unnoticed is that each prime-free minor has a unique clopen flat. The latter property carries over to $q$-matroids, but each prime-free minor will contain many bases. So internal and external activity in $q$-matroids must be defined not for points relative to bases, but rather for coverings in the underlying complemented modular lattice. Following lattice paths from arbitrary subspaces $A$ along active coverings (downward for internally active, upward for externally active) will lead to the unique clopen subspace in the prime-free minor containing the subspace $A$.
There are a number of interesting questions concerning $q$-matroids that remain unsolved.

We classify rooted trees which have strictly unimodal q-polynomials (plucking polynomial). We also give criteria for a trapezoidal shape of a plucking polynomial. We generalize results of Pak and Panova on strict unimodality of q-binomial coefficients. We discuss which polynomials can be realized as plucking polynomials and whether or not different rooted trees can have the same plucking polynomial.

We describe in this note a new invariant of rooted trees. We argue that the invariant is interesting on it own, and that it has connections to knot theory and homological algebra. However, the real reason that we propose this invariant to readers is that we deal here with an elementary, interesting, new mathematics, and after reading this essay readers can take part in developing the topic, inventing new results and connections to other disciplines of mathematics, and likely, statistical mechanics, and combinatorial biology. We also provide a (free) translation of the paper in Polish.

We introduce two q-analogues of the 2D-Hermite polynomials which are functions of two complex variables. We derive explicit formulas, orthogonality relations, raising and lowering operator relations, generating functions, and Rodrigues formulas for both families. We also introduce a q-2D analogue of the disk polynomials (Zernike polynomials) and derive similar formulas for them as well including evaluating certain connection coefficients. Some of the generating functions may be related to Rogers-Ramanujan type identities.

We use Young's raising operators to introduce and study double theta polynomials, which specialize to both the theta polynomials of Buch, Kresch, and Tamvakis, and to double (or factorial) Schur S-polynomials and Q-polynomials. These double theta polynomials give Giambelli formulas which represent the equivariant Schubert classes in the torus-equivariant cohomology ring of symplectic Grassmannians, and we employ them to obtain a new presentation of this ring in terms of intrinsic generators and relations.
Progress in distributive homology: from q-polynomial of rooted trees to Yang-Baxter homology
This is an extended abstract of the talk given at the Oberwolfach Workshop
"Algebraic Structures in Low-Dimensional Topology", 25 May -- 31 May 2014. My goal was to describe progress in distributive homology from the previous Oberwolfach Workshop June 3 - June 9, 2012, in particular my work on Yang-Baxter homology; however I concentrated my talk on my recent discovery of q-polynomial of a rooted tree; the appropriate topic as my talk was on May 30, 2014, the 30 anniversary of the Jones polynomial, and the polynomial has its roots in the Kauffman bracket approach to the Jones polynomial.

It is known that a distance-regular graph with valency $k$ at least three admits at most two Q-polynomial structures. %
In this note we show that all distance-regular graphs with diameter four and valency at least three admitting two $Q$-polynomial structures are either dual bipartite or almost dual imprimitive. By the work of Dickie \cite{Dickie} this implies that any distance-regular graph with diameter $d$ at least four and valency at least three admitting two $Q$-polynomial structures is, provided it is not a Hadamard graph, either the cube $H(d,2)$ with $d$ even, the half cube ${1}/{2} H(2d+1,2)$, the folded cube $\tilde{H}(2d+1,2)$, or the dual polar graph on $[^2A_{2d-1}(q)]$ with $q\ge 2$ a prime power.
The Terwilliger polynomial of a Q-polynomial distance-regular graph and its application to the pseudo-partition graphs

Let $Γ$ be a $Q$-polynomial distance-regular graph with diameter at least $3$. Terwilliger (1993) implicitly showed that there exists a polynomial, say $T(λ)\in \mathbb{C}[λ]$, of degree $4$ depending only on the intersection numbers of $Γ$ and such that $T(η)\geq 0$ holds for any non-principal eigenvalue $η$ of the local graph $Γ(x)$ for any vertex $x\in V(Γ)$.
We call $T(λ)$ the Terwilliger polynomial of $Γ$. In this paper, we give an explicit formula for $T(λ)$ in terms of the intersection numbers of $Γ$ and its dual eigenvalues. We then apply this polynomial to show that all pseudo-partition graphs with diameter at least $3$ are known.
On the existence of tight relative 2-designs on binary Hamming association schemes

It is known that there is a close analogy between "Euclidean t-designs vs. spherical t-designs" and "Relative t-designs in binary Hamming association schemes vs. combinatorial t-designs". In this paper, we want to prove how much we can develop a similar theory in the latter situation, imitating the theory in the former one. We first prove that the weight function is constant on each shell for tight relative t-designs on p shells on a wide class of Q-polynomial association schemes, including Hamming association schemes. In the theory of Euclidean t-designs on 2 concentric spheres (shells), it is known that the structure of coherent configurations is naturally attached. However, it seems difficult to prove this claim in a general context. In the case of tight 2-designs in combinatorial 2-designs, there are great many tight 2-designs, i.e., symmetric 2-designs, while there are very few tight 2e-designs for e no less than 2. So, as a starting point, we concentrate our study to the existence problem of tight relative 2-designs, in particular on 2 shells, in binary Hamming association schemes H(n,2). We prove that every tight relative 2-designs on 2 shells in H(n,2) has the structure of coherent configuration. We determined all the possible parameters of coherent configurations attached to such tight relative 2-designs for n at most 30. Moreover for each of them we determined whether there exists such a tight relative 2-design or not, either by constructing them from symmetric 2-designs or Hadamard matrices, or theoretically showing the non-existence. In particular, we show that for n congruent to 6 (mod 8), there exist such tight relative 2-designs whose weight functions are not constant. These are the first examples of those with non-constant weight.
