Cyclic codes and cyclically covering subspaces
A subspace of $\mathbb{F}_q^n$ is called cyclically covering if the union of $σ^i(U)$ can cover the whole space $\mathbb{F}_q^n$, where $σ$ is the cyclic shift, $0 \leqslant i \leqslant n-1$. Let $h_q(n)$ be the largest possible co-dimension of a cyclically covering subspace of $\mathbb{F}_q^n$. We show that $h_2(2p) = 2$ for every prime $p$ such that $2$ is a primitive root modulo $p$. By constacyclic codes, we show that $h_q((q-1)n) = 0$ when $h_q(n) = 0$ and $\gcd(n,q-1) = 1$. We also derive a lower bound on $h_q(n)$ by the concept of support weight distribution, which is important in coding theory. Finally, using irreducible cyclic codes, we present several families of $n$ such that $h_q(n) = 0$.

Codes and designs in multivariate $Q$-polynomial association schemes
We generalize the fundamental bounds of Delsarte thesis (1973) on codes of given degree and designs of given strength in the new setting of Bannai et al. (2025). We assume the scheme is weakly metric in the sense of (Solé, 1989). We give upper bounds on the size of codes of given degree, and also on the size of codes with a given number of pairwise distances. Codes meeting these bounds are characterized by the identification of suitable annihilators with the degree (resp. distance) Wilson polynomial. We give two analogues of the Rao bound on the size of designs with given strength. Designs meeting that bound we call degree tight designs or distance tight design depending on the bound met. In both cases, the existence of a tight design implies a Lloyd-like condition on a suitable analogue of the Wilson polynomial. Applications to the Lee distance, mixed level orthogonal arrays, ordered orthogonal arrays, and more are given. The formal duality between codes and designs, connecting perfect codes and tight designs, is made concrete in self-dual translation schemes.

Closed Expressions for the Weight Distributions of Codes Associated with Perfect Codes
Perfect codes are arguably the most fascinating structures in combinatorial coding theory, and their classification and weight distribution are of considerable interest. This classification also involves the analysis of some related structures. This paper considers five closely related structures, but all of them have never been tied together before. These structures are 1-perfect codes, extended 1-perfect codes, nearly perfect 1-covering codes, extended nearly perfect 1-covering codes, and one family of completely regular codes (to be called diamond codes). The current work concentrates on the weight distributions of these five families of codes. In the past, some of these weight distributions were not computed, some required heavy tools, and for some only the weight enumerator was presented. We provide complete weight distributions for all five families using some methods that do not require any heavy tools.

Perfect codes in weakly metric association schemes
The Lloyd Theorem of (Solé, 1989) is combined with the Schwartz-Zippel Lemma of theoretical computer science to derive non-existence results for perfect codes in the Lee metric, NRT metric, mixed Hamming metric, and for the sum-rank distance. The proofs are based on asymptotic enumeration of integer partitions. The framework is the new concept of {\em polynomial} weakly metric association schemes. A connection between this notion and the recent theory of multivariate P-polynomial schemes of ( Bannai et al. 2025) and of $m$-distance regular graphs ( Bernard et al 2025) is pointed out.

Maximum Size $t$-Intersecting Families and Anticodes
The maximum size of $t$-intersecting families is one of the most celebrated topics in combinatorics, and its size is known as the Erdős-Ko-Rado theorem. Such intersecting families, also known as constant-weight anticodes in coding theory, were considered in a generalization of the well-known sphere-packing bound. In this work we consider the maximum size of $t$-intersecting families and their associated maximum size constant-weight anticodes over alphabet of size $q >2$. It is proved that the structure of the maximum size constant-weight anticodes with the same length, weight, and diameter, depends on the alphabet size. This structure implies some hierarchy of constant-weight anticodes.

The log concavity of two graphical sequences
We show that the large Cartesian powers of any graph have log-concave valencies with respect to a ffxed vertex. We show that the series of valencies of distance regular graphs is log-concave, thus improving on a result of (Taylor, Levingston, 1978). Consequences for strongly regular graphs, two-weight codes, and completely regular codes are derived. By P-Q duality of association schemes the series of multiplicities of Q-polynomial association schemes is shown, under some assumption, to be log-concave.

A further study on the mass formula for linear codes with prescribed hull dimension
Finding a mass formula for a given class of linear codes is a fundamental problem in combinatorics and coding theory. In this paper, we consider the action of the unitary (resp. symplectic) group on the set of all Hermitian (resp. symplectic) linear complementary dual (LCD) codes, prove that all Hermitian (resp. symplectic) LCD codes are on a unique orbit under this action, and determine the formula for the size of the orbit. Based on this, we develop a general technique to obtain a closed mass formula for linear codes with prescribed Hermitian (resp. symplectic) hull dimension, and further obtain some asymptotic results.

Log-Concave Sequences in Coding Theory
We introduce the notion of logarithmically concave (or log-concave) sequences in Coding Theory. A sequence $a_0, a_1, \dots, a_n$ of real numbers is called log-concave if $a_i^2 \ge a_{i-1}a_{i+1}$ for all $1 \le i \le n-1$. A natural sequence of positive numbers in coding theory is the weight distribution of a linear code consisting of the nonzero values among $A_i$'s where $A_i$ denotes the number of codewords of weight $i$. We call a linear code log-concave if its nonzero weight distribution is log-concave. Our main contribution is to show that all binary general Hamming codes of length $2^r -1$ ($r=3$ or $r \ge 5$), the binary extended Hamming codes of length $2^r ~(r \ge 3)$, and the second order Reed-Muller codes $R(2, m)~ (m \ge 2)$ are all log-concave while the homogeneous and projective second order Reed-Muller codes are either log-concave, or 1-gap log-concave. Furthermore, we show that any MDS $[n, k]$ code over $\mathbb F_q$ satisfying $3 \leqslant k \leqslant n/2 +3$ is log-concave if $q \geqslant q_0(n, k)$ which is the larger root of a quadratic polynomial. Hence, we expect that the concept of log-concavity in coding theory will stimulate many interesting problems.

Triangle decompositions of PG(n-1,2)
Published in Discrete Math. 349(1) 2026, 114664(1-13) • View PublicationBIB
We define a triangle design as a partition of the set of lines of a projective space into triangles, where a triangle consists of three pairwise intersecting lines with no common point. A triangle design is balanced if all points are involved in the same number of triangles. We construct balanced triangle designs in PG$(n-1,2)$ for all admissible $n$ (congruent to $1$ modulo $6$) and an infinite class of balanced block-divisible triangle designs. We also prove that the existence of a triangle design in PG$(n-1,2)$ invariant under the action of the Singer cycle group is equivalent to the existence of a partition of $Z_{2^n-1}\backslash\{0\}$ into special $18$-subsets and find such partitions for $n=7$, $13$, $19$. Keywords: Subspace design, graph decomposition, triangle design, Heffter's difference problem.

Some $3$-designs invariant under $2.PΣL(2,49).$
We construct a ternary [49,25,7] code from the row span of a Jacobsthal matrix. It is equivalent to a Generalized Quadratic Residue (GQR) code in the sense of van Lint and MacWilliams (1978). These codes are the abelian generalizations of the quadratic residue (QR) codes which are cyclic. The union of the [50,25,8] extension of the said code and its dual supports a 3-(50,14,1248) design. The automorphism group of the latter design is a double cover of the permutation part of the automorphism group of the [50,25,8] code, which is isomorphic to $PΣL(2,49).$ Other weights in this code, other GQR codes, and other QR codes yield other 3-designs by the same process. A simple group action argument is provided to explain this behaviour of isodual codes.

Characterization of Plotkin-optimal two-weight codes over finite chain rings and related applications
Few-weight codes over finite chain rings are associated with combinatorial objects such as strongly regular graphs (SRGs), strongly walk-regular graphs (SWRGs) and finite geometries, and are also widely used in data storage systems and secret sharing schemes. The first objective of this paper is to characterize all possible parameters of Plotkin-optimal two-homogeneous weight regular projective codes over finite chain rings, as well as their weight distributions. We show the existence of codes with these parameters by constructing an infinite family of two-homogeneous weight codes. The parameters of their Gray images have the same weight distribution as that of the two-weight codes of type SU1 in the sense of Calderbank and Kantor (Bull Lond Math Soc 18: 97-122, 1986). Further, we also construct three-homogeneous weight regular projective codes over finite chain rings combined with some known results. Finally, we study applications of our constructed codes in secret sharing schemes and graph theory. In particular, infinite families of SRGs and SWRGs with non-trivial parameters are obtained.
Quasi-cyclic perfect codes in Doob graphs and special partitions of Galois rings

The Galois ring GR$(4^Δ)$ is the residue ring $Z_4[x]/(h(x))$, where $h(x)$ is a basic primitive polynomial of degree $Δ$ over $Z_4$. For any odd $Δ$ larger than $1$, we construct a partition of GR$(4^Δ) \backslash \{0\}$ into $6$-subsets of type $\{a,b,-a-b,-a,-b,a+b\}$ and $3$-subsets of type $\{c,-c,2c\}$ such that the partition is invariant under the multiplication by a nonzero element of the Teichmuller set in GR$(4^Δ)$ and, if $Δ$ is not a multiple of $3$, under the action of the automorphism group of GR$(4^Δ)$. As a corollary, this implies the existence of quasi-cyclic additive $1$-perfect codes of index $(2^Δ-1)$ in $D((2^Δ-1)(2^Δ-2)/{6}, 2^Δ-1 )$ where $D(m,n)$ is the Doob metric scheme on $Z^{2m+n}$.

A family of diameter perfect constant-weight codes from Steiner systems
Published in J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A 200 2023, 105790 • View PublicationBIB
If $S$ is a transitive metric space, then $|C|\cdot|A| \le |S|$ for any distance-$d$ code $C$ and a set $A$, ``anticode'', of diameter less than $d$. For every Steiner S$(t,k,n)$ system $S$, we show the existence of a $q$-ary constant-weight code $C$ of length~$n$, weight~$k$ (or $n-k$), and distance $d=2k-t+1$ (respectively, $d=n-t+1$) and an anticode $A$ of diameter $d-1$ such that the pair $(C,A)$ attains the code--anticode bound and the supports of the codewords of $C$ are the blocks of $S$ (respectively, the complements of the blocks of $S$). We study the problem of estimating the minimum value of $q$ for which such a code exists, and find that minimum for small values of $t$. Constructing MRD codes by switching
Published in J. Comb. Des. 32(5) 2024, 219-237 • View PublicationBIB
MRD codes are maximum codes in the rank-distance metric space on $m$-by-$n$ matrices over the finite field of order $q$. They are diameter perfect and have the cardinality $q^{m(n-d+1)}$ if $m\ge n$. We define switching in MRD codes as replacing special MRD subcodes by other subcodes with the same parameters. We consider constructions of MRD codes admitting such switching, including punctured twisted Gabidulin codes and direct-product codes. Using switching, we construct a huge class of MRD codes whose cardinality grows doubly exponentially in $m$ if the other parameters ($n$, $q$, the code distance) are fixed. Moreover, we construct MRD codes with different affine ranks and aperiodic MRD codes. Keywords: MRD codes, rank distance, bilinear forms graph, switching, diameter perfect codes

We show that no more new distance-regular graphs in the tables of the book of (Brouwer, Cohen, Neumaier, 1989) can be produced by using the coset graph of additive completely regular codes over finite fields.
Self-dual Hadamard bent sequences
Published in J. Syst. Sci. Complex. 36(2) 2023, 894-908 • View PublicationBIB
A new notion of bent sequence related to Hadamard matrices was introduced recently, motivated by a security application ( Solé et al, 2021). We study the self dual class in length at most $196.$ We use three competing methods of generation: Exhaustion, Linear Algebra and Groebner bases. Regular Hadamard matrices and Bush-type Hadamard matrices provide many examples. We conjecture that if $v$ is an even perfect square, a self-dual bent sequence of length $v$ always exist. We introduce the strong automorphism group of Hadamard matrices, which acts on their associated self-dual bent sequences. We give an efficient algorithm to compute that group.

An enumeration of 1-perfect ternary codes
Published in Discrete Math. 346(7) 2023, 113437(1-16) • View PublicationBIB
We study codes with parameters of the ternary Hamming $(n=(3^m-1)/2,3^{n-m},3)$ code, i.e., ternary $1$-perfect codes. The rank of the code is defined to be the dimension of its affine span. We characterize ternary $1$-perfect codes of rank $n-m+1$, count their number, and prove that all such codes can be obtained from each other by a sequence of two-coordinate switchings. We enumerate ternary $1$-perfect codes of length $13$ obtained by concatenation from codes of lengths $9$ and $4$; we find that there are $93241327$ equivalence classes of such codes. On $q$-ary shortened-$1$-perfect-like codes
Published in IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory 68(11) 2022, 7100-7106 • View PublicationBIB
We study codes with parameters of $q$-ary shortened Hamming codes, i.e., $(n=(q^m-q)/(q-1), q^{n-m}, 3)_q$. Firstly, we prove the fact mentioned in 1998 by Brouwer et al. that such codes are optimal, generalizing it to a bound for multifold packings of radius-$1$ balls, with a corollary for multiple coverings. In particular, we show that the punctured Hamming code is an optimal $q$-fold packing with minimum distance $2$. Secondly, for every admissible length starting from $n=20$, we show the existence of $4$-ary codes with parameters of shortened $1$-perfect codes that cannot be obtained by shortening a $1$-perfect code. Keywords: Hamming graph, multifold packings, multiple coverings, perfect codes.

Designs, permutations, and transitive groups
A notion of $t$-designs in the symmetric group on $n$ letters was introduced by Godsil in 1988. In particular $t$-transitive sets of permutations form a $t$-design. We derive special lower bounds for $t=1$ and $t=2$ by a power moment method. For general $n,t$ we give a %linear programming lower bound . For $n\ge 4$ and $t=2,$ this bound is strong enough to show a lower bound on the size of such $t$-designs of $n(n-1)\dots (n-t+1),$ which is best possible when sharply $t$-transitive sets of permutations exist. This shows, in particular, that tight $2$-designs do not exist.

Designs in finite metric spaces: a probabilistic approach
Published • View PublicationBIB
A finite metric space is called here distance degree regular if its distance degree sequence is the same for every vertex. A notion of designs in such spaces is introduced that generalizes that of designs in $Q$-polynomial distance-regular graphs. An approximation of their cumulative distribution function, based on the notion of Christoffel function in approximation theory is given. As an application we derive limit laws on the weight distributions of binary orthogonal arrays of strength going to infinity. An analogous result for combinatorial designs of strength going to infinity is given.
